I don't care man the harptones or even the temptations, the 4 seasons just have a perfect harmony it's like they were born to sing with each other there sound is the ideal sound that male groups try to have. It's amazing to listen to them, I teach vocals proffesionaly and I hear hundreds of small male groups all over Canada and the USA but nothing is as pleasing to the ear as the origonal 4 seasons.

I want a Sunday kind of love
A love to last, past Saturday night
I want to know it's more than love at first sight
I want want a Sunday kind of love.
I want a love that's on the square
Can't seem to find somebody to care
I'm on lonely road that leads me nowhere
I want a Sunday kind love.
I do my Sunday dreaming and all my Sunday scheming
Every minute, every hour, every day.
    I'm hoping to discover
    A certain kind of lover
Who will show me the way.
My arms need someone to enfold
To keep warm when Monday's are cold
A love for all my life to have and to hold
    I want a Sunday kind of l-o-v-e.
    L-o-v-e,
    Sunday kind of love.

I remember the "War of the Bands" with Frankie and the Four Seasons on one side and the Beach Boys on the other. I mean, who can possibly choose?! While I loved the Four Seasons, I grew up driving down Beach Blvd. to Huntington Beach, watching the surfers, tanning next to my cool transistor radio, and listening to those neighborhood Whittier kids, the Beach Boys! However...had I grown up in Queens or in South Philly, the Four Seasons would have been my number 1 (that is until 1963 when we started hearing this band called the Beatles, coming over the radio.) LOL!!

My point was not about voices or critiquing FV. I only wanted to show that the song had a history going back to 1947 and big bands. The tune was written for a female voice ("a love that lasts past Saturday night" ) and the gold standard for it is Fran Warren with the Claude Thornhill Orchestra. Fran Warren passed a year ago in Brookfield, CT. She was a Jewish kid (Fran Wolf) from the Bronx who auditioned for Duke Ellington's Orchestra and was rejected. Claude Thornill took a chance on her and she immortalized this piece. I couldn't agree more with you about Valli's longevity and his superiority to rock singers. I only wanted to cast a light on the age of great solo performing in the 40's from whence Sunday Kind of Love came.

Franki Valli and crew were late to the altar with this cover; plus what about the Harptones in the Harlem of the 50's or the original composer, Claude Thornhill and vocalist Fran Warren, 40's big band. Life did not begin with Jersey Boy's.

If only Nick Massi wasn't dead they could reunite and start singing for the last years that have of their lives. You might think it's weird that a boy in Elementary School listens to this. My mom introduced me to this music. I listen to Doris Day, Elvis, and Frankie Valli and the four seasons. I kind off like the new generation of music. But no one can compare to Frankie Valli. It is going to be a sad day when your time comes. For now keep your legend alive!

A great version. One of the best from a fantastic group. Modelled very much after the great doo wop versions of the 50s. The first, by The Harptones on Bruce (1953) is the masterpiece, but the 4 Seasons are right up there. The Dell Vikings also have a nice ballad version and an uptempo rendition. Many other interesting up tempo versions also, e.g. The Marcells, The Devotions. However The Harptones is the no 1 and I am sure the Seasons would defer to that.
