    Do Monroe shocks have gas and hydraulic ? I'm just trying to figure out if a charge has been lost and lowered my front end above my front 4x4 straight axil .94 B4000. I changed them when I first bought it new after one year. But my problem then when unnoticed . my coil on passenger side popped out and stuck half way back into its socket holder tabs. Once I compressed the spring and set it back in place , I did the alignment .
    Sure fixed it up but I am getting slight and I mean slight inboard tow wear as if the shock lost some charge and compress easier than new.

    7:23 -- you say hydraulic shocks are a lot cheaper. I would like to know where to buy such plain hydraulic shocks ?

      qa1’s are hydraulic but they aren’t cheap but if you google i’m sure there are cheaper plain hydro companies out there

    What are some good hydraulic shocks for a 71 Chevelle? I’ve been looking and can’t find anything but gas charged and coil overs. Thanks!!

    Gas or no gas; it's more about valving for the particular automobile. I think Monroe gets it right with the OE spec but I don't know if they go back to the classics with OES?

      As I understand it, the insurance companies and auto appraisers consider a car to be a "classic" if it's 25 or more years of age. That being the case, I can assure you that Monroe does provide front and rear shocks from their 'OESpectrum' line to fit my 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. I just purchased a set (all 4) but have yet to install them. Monroe's website calls this a 'low-pressure' gas charged twin-tube shock. In manipulating the shocks by hand, they don't seem to require an outrageous amount of force to compress, so I'm hoping they'll perform relatively close to the way an old-school hydraulic shock will. I have seen some gas shock demonstrations online where it appears the shock is virtually incompressible by hand. Of course, I believe that difference has a lot to do with the difference between monotube and twin-tube gas shocks. I'm pretty sure monotubes run gas pressures from 100-400 psi. whereas twin-tubes run 30-40 psi., (based on my small amount of online research). If anyone knows different I'd love to be corrected. My parts vendor stated with great confidence that Monroe's 'OESpectrum' shocks are essentially the very same thing as their previous 'Sense-a-Trac' shocks.
