    I recently got Oakley facebreakers with the trail torch prizm lens (and extra darker lens for fatbiking/road biking) and they definitely seem to help. I'm kind of curious if the filtering allows your eye to focus on other things or if the extra contrast makes it seem like your vision is better. I'm slightly near sighted and the lens gives me a bit more clearity further out. Anyways they're definitely worth it imo.

    • @DRSpalding
      @DRSpalding 3 года назад +2

      @@VanCan "Work" in this case means, to me, that they use technology of filtering/shifting specific wavelengths of light in order that the effect makes things easier to see or easier on the eyes or whatever, physiologically. Do they work better for you than their competitors due to the ChromaPop tech they have? That would be interesting data to have on top of the confirmation that they actually do what they say.

  • @Eric.Smith.
    @Eric.Smith. 3 года назад +1

    The claim that these improve your ability to see colors seems dubious. Aren't the filters just effectively reducing the color rendering index of the light that's reaching your eyes?
    Some lights like LED's and fluorescents create light with similar peaks and valleys, but they're usually seen as a negative. Daylight, and lights that resemble daylight is generally preferred.

    • @VanCan
      @VanCan  3 года назад

      they live up to the claims that the separation of colours is more apparent. Whether you like that or not is up to you. Lighting for homes and for photographs is a bit different. You want that lighting to be pleasing to the eye, which is different than wanting lighting that increases some performance metric.

  • @sam-ww1wk
    @sam-ww1wk 11 месяцев назад

    "chromapop" is just Smith version of blocking out certain spectrums for increased contrast. Costa pioneered it decades ago blocking out the 480 range, thus their lens name, '480', and many have copied including Smith. Works very well. Problem with most Smith chromapop options is they use cheap plastic lenses and sell for mineral glass prices. If you're paying $300 for an ounce of plastic, then good for Smith. In this regard, it is just marketing hype.

  • @samuelpetrina1517
