    Yeah that's crazy that the GX gets chainslap. I run a XX and XO transmission and have no chain slap and super quiet. I wonder if they use a different clutch spring in the GX vs the XX & XO. End the end you got to run what works. Super rad build and also digging the pink color....

    • @Bjoern_the_Baer
      @Bjoern_the_Baer 2 месяца назад

      It's not only the clutch. The heavier axs derailleur slaps around pivot point which is the screw that fixes the derailleur to the hanger. If you disassemble the screw bushing and replace the red o ring with tighter ones that will prohibit movement of the whole derailleur body it'll do more than shortening the chain for you. The AXS stuff is only half baked but people buy into the stuff due to marketing

    I've never ridden a SRAM setup that didn't chainslap, the SRAM clutch is just not quite as strong as the Shimano one. Though SRAM is easier to service. I've tried GX Transmission and liked it, but not enough to speed THAT much money to replace my perfectly good XT

    • @CitrusclipsMTB

      Good idea but it’s still the roller bearing clutch mechanism he had problems with, not the cage

    • @Bjoern_the_Baer
      @Bjoern_the_Baer 2 месяца назад +1

      @@CitrusclipsMTB the cage for the mechanical and axs eagle groupset has two different point for the spring to attach. So therefore you can have more tension without needing to cut the chain shorter. I'm not entirely sure if the transmission cage does have that too tho. Axs is a shity system anyways. After riding it since it came out, I'm very happy that I went back to mechanical X01 for Enduro. Quiet, easy, less expensive and no batteries to die

    What's your chainring size? I also really like ovals, but Hope, whose cranksets I really want to upgrade to, doesn't make ovals at all anymore, and in any event never made ovals smaller than 30t, and nothing at all smaller than 28t. So for example, my rigid bike came stock with 170mm cranks and a 30t ring. Going to oval and 155, I should go down to a 26t oval. I've been running a 30t oval, which is fine (it's going to make me stronger if nothing else), but I'd be really interested to try a chainring of the 'correct' size, that would also fit with the Hope crank arms etc.

    • @VanCan

    I swear the SRAM chainslap varies from product to product. Had a stumpjumper Evo with cable GX, and it had the worst chainslap ever. Got a new one with GX axs (not t type) and it's dead quiet.

    • @ervin7178
      @ervin7178 2 месяца назад +3

      It’s funny cause a lot of people say the opposite, that cable GX has a better clutch than AXS. They might just have very inconsistent clutch quality so it varies even between the same product.

    Not really my area of expertise and I was thinking about getting SRAM GX T-Type myself. Does this problem persist with X01 version too? I've only had shimano before, and my future bike (arrives in 2 weeks) is equipped with Mech GX so I was kinda looking forward to upgrading it to the latest money drain cause of shifting under load selling point. Sick bike btw!

    • @VanCan
      @VanCan  2 месяца назад

      It’s only a problem if you prefer a firm clutch. Some people in the comments have noted they don’t mind. If the mech gx works well for you then I’d say the transmission is an upgrade.

Dt 240 classic hubs and a good dt rim (ex511 or fr541) dt competition 2.0 1.8 spokes and DT Squorx Brass Nipples with Pro lock and you won't touch your wheel for years. The only thing I'd suggest is, when you have your wheel build, don't ride it before you haven't unscrewed the Ratchet ring and have put some dt swiss grease on the threats. But a well build DT Swiss wheel wild hold up better than anything else on the market.
