The 20$ course is the first course I ever played. It is pretty awesome, I got to ride in the car with my BF and sneak a couple of holes. The employees either didn’t care or were okay with it. Pretty cool for 20$ and close to UGA for broke college students

I enjoy playing nicer courses because I can play truer to my skill and not be frustrated at poor conditions especially on the greens, but for me I’m going cheap courses and playing twice as much and enjoying my time on the course playing. I’ve been trying to enjoy the good shots and improving rather than focusing on score. Great video idea keep it up bro!

I think the $20 course is great value for money. I'd probably play the $200 course once a year as a tradition with friends. Like our own private major. As a low income play, it's all about dollars.

Growing up on those $20 courses I’d say a major pro of learning how to play on them is that in some cases they are so narrow that they force you to learn how to hit the straight ball, or even how to shape shots off of bad lies cause you have one every other shot. Some whack tracks are definitely fun to play if you’re looking to practice your game with your buddies, where I’m from we also have courses that are overcharging (~$80 for 18) just because they’re closer to town which isn’t very fun either cause they’re the same caliber as some $30-$40 courses. Keep up the good content Luke!

It’s a loaded question! “Would you rather play a $200 or $20 course. Every living golfer if honest would say, “Give me the $200 course”. The reality is, the average golfer who wants to play every weekend, and is middle to lower income, the question is a financial choice. Every golfer would rather play the nicer, better course. Municipal courses fill the niche for seniors, and youth cutting their teeth on rules and regulations, and both groups might be financially challenged. There’s no way I expected you to look down your beak at a “cheap” course, and I don’t think that was your goal setting out making this video, but if you look at the negative slant you put on this video, even though unintentional, was not you at your best.

I’m a member at a course that is very similar to the $20 course… The conditions of the course are indicative to what the customer base in this area would pay to play golf. These kinds of courses are the ones that are thriving right now and stay super busy while the elite or somewhat elite over $100 courses are struggling to stay open because it’s is such a big operation and their members care so much about the amenities and greens being immaculate that it cost the course quite a bit of money to operate. The course I play at is full of rural golfers that like to come out there and play with her buddies or family and that place stays packed and I guarantee you he’s seeing a higher percentage of profit then the nicer courses. Yes rural golf is definitely alive and thriving because of the business plan behind low maintenance fees which translates to low green fees. We have quite a few players that come from different courses to play half of them appreciate it for what it is and the other half act like their game has been affected from not being on an elite course which can make them look a little snobby. There is a bigger story behind these courses especially in towns where there’s not a lot to do… We have a group of friends that get together every Sunday morning and play a Cash game and we’re all very close friends and we all have different jobs and different looks on a lot of things but we still get along and enjoy each other even though we are vastly different and that’s the important story behind it.

I understand you get what you pay for but not everyone is a RUclips golfer that can afford a $200 track. I play my local muni for $10 to walk and now in the middle of summer, the conditions are getting quite nice. They take pride in their course and the upkeep. Granted in the winter months the grass is dying off and going dormant but I’d much rather play within my budget and treat myself with an occasional $50-$60 round. Golf is golf, I’ve learned to dance with the one I’ve brung and get excited when everything clicks. Love your videos, you’ve got great game.

There’s a course here in Dallas called prairie lakes, it’s right on Mountain Creek Lake and a lot of the holes but up to the lake, which you have to drive over to get to the course, after taxes and everything I pay a shade under 28 for 27 holes there, and the course is beautiful and a blast to play. Some parts aren’t perfect, but the greens are all nice and well maintained, the fairways are decent and actually really good when it’s not the dead heat of the summer or the off-season, and it’s a challenging course with a lot of trees and several really challenging par threes and fives

I left Texas 6 years ago to retire in the Philippines. My home course here is $94.00 monthly unlimited golf. Most courses here are in excellent condition with world class views of the mountains and ocean. I play about 12 times a month so it's about $8.00 a round. Only drawback here is golf equipment like shoes, clubs and grips is not available. Thank you Amazon. But if there I would choose the $200 round, for me it's about enjoying the time I have left. Can't take it with me and wouldn't want to even if I could. Take care Luke and God bless.

I play at a 9 hole course and we just put in champion Bermuda greens. Our fairways are terrible. When the member guest and the club championship is held, the course superintendent goes all out, though. Our monthly dues are $70. I was the assistant pro at one of the last courses Arnold Palmer designed with Tifsport fairways and a hybrid bent grass, and I was hovering around a 3 handicap. You had to hit every club in your bag and if I didn't sick with epilepsy, I think I could have been a lot better. I did get to play for free, so that made a big difference. It was so easy to hit the ball solid, but the course probably had a yearly budget in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

SW Washington state, close to Portland, Oregon. That $20 for 9 holes course did not look as bad as I'd imagined it would. I'd play it, though I think the slow greens and any poorly maintained tee boxes would drive me bonkers. The course I play most is 18 holes for $43 Mon-Thurs, $53 Fri-Sun. Less for a twilight round or with a $100/year membership. It's not scenic, but it's in consistently good condition from tee to green. Except for Bandon (in December, $100), I don't think I've ever paid more than $60 for 18.

I know others have said this but be careful of unintended snobbery. I would love to be able to go out and play a 200 dollar, top of the line golf course all the time but few people have the resources to devote to such a thing. These small, municipal courses fill a much needed niche' It allows an affordable way to let everyone play the game, not just those with enough disposable wealth to pay for high end golf. Most of us grew up playing small courses like the one you talked about and most of us will continue to play these kinds of courses because, simply put, blowing what could amount to a couple days salary on a round of golf is out of the question. No, the golf won't be as good and you probably would increase your skill level playing a top tier course all the time but most golfers don't have any illusion about playing at the professional level.
Essentially, don't disparage small, cheap courses. For the price they can afford you a pretty good time. Without them the game would stagnate pretty quickly. When we say we want to grow the game. Well, most of the golfers you see playing the top end courses started out on those cheap, less than top of the line tracks.

I agree. The kid sounds a lil snobby. Course was def more than solid for $20. Maybe he lives in the mid west so the value is actually good. I am blessed to play Torrey pines often cuz I have a residence card, but I’m always down to play some nice cheap golf anywhere. Doesn’t matter as long as there’s a tee box and pin.

    • @tcofield1967
      @tcofield1967 2 года назад

@@thomaslee841 There is some truth to this. Courses tend to vary depending on location. It also depends on reputation. Out here we have Chambers Bay, a PGA level course that is over 200 bucks for non residents. Next door, almost literally, is The Home Course which is a very nice course and almost as difficult from similar tees but 1/4 the price. Is Chambers bay 150 dollars better? No but no one brags about playing the Home Course. Well, I do but it is one of my favorite courses.

Honestly I prefer courses that are closer in cost to the $20 course than the $200 one. I play maybe one country club/high end course over $125+/rd per season. With the slope, distance (6500+ mens tees), and complex and fast undulating greens I'm lucky to break 90 when I play at high end tracks. At a basic muni or mid level public course I can actually score a little bit and shoot in the low 80s from white/blues (5800-6200 yards) and have a much better time. The conditions at the higher end courses are obviously a treat and the pace of play is generally much better but in terms of overall enjoyment I generally enjoy the cheaper public tracks.

I know that $20 course. played it a couple of times. good for beginners learning the game. pretty open for the most part some of the rough parts the cart paths (hey you get a cart!), clubhouse pretty sketch, can you say old chicken coup? most tee boxes and many of the dirt fairways, course is never watered, so summer time on the GA clay will give you lots of roll. it's worth the $20 just to play some golf. lots of short par 4's so there's some birdies out here... I'm not paying $200 for a round of golf. Not likely unless its a current or prior PGA course. $2-$3/hole is more my style Thank Joe Brandon for raising all the prices of everything. Golf is also getting pretty pricy the last 2 years.

Nice video ! 200$ is too much however. 80-90$ for a tee time in the morning with free range is perfect. For a tee time after 3PM, around 40-50$ is good.

the 200 dollar course is not really 200 bucks to play. its a private course called the standard club (i know because my dad use to be a member and i recognize it. its 200 bucks because hes most likely being charged the non member guest fee

I live in GA and there’s plenty of course here that charge $45-$70 for 18 that look and play the exact way as that $200 course. My local course charges $45 for 18 and it’s not worth that price imo bc they don’t keep the course up but it’s challenging and looks better than the one you played. But I think those cheap courses are good for getting you better. Bc you aren’t gonna care about all that stuff. You just want to figure out how to hit the ball. Good video tho!

$200 per round is too rich for me as a weekly course. Would pay it on a special occasion. Better value just joining a club that you enjoy playing at regularly, ideally with decent practice facilities on site.

A couple bad tee boxes, fairways don’t even look bad, when you said it was like the rough I think that’s a pretty big stretch. I’d say their conditions for 20 bucks is a good deal. Cheapest courses around here are 25 before the cart fees and some aren’t as good as ur 20 dollar course. Maybe Georgia is just built different for golf

I seem to play better at better courses so keep me away from the $20 specials. Between $60-80 for my normal 2x a week game and the once a month with the guys is up to $150.

I prefer a stricter club. Not too strict but enough to keep the people who don't respect golf, or the course, away.
