One day I’ll be able to say the same… well, so I hope! Actually, Rick, I’ve been really practicing chipping from the fringe with my 7 iron like you’ve showed in many videos instead of going full PGA mode with my 56. Granted when I get a real good chip, it looks great, but the misses vs the 7 iron are night and day. The 7 iron leaves a nice putt, where the 56 usually leads to a farther chip just from the other side of the green lol. As always great video! And thank you for all the knowledge you have shared, and continue to share!
Best round I ever shot started with an identical shot as Rick's, a proper top straight into the bushes 50 yards away. It can either crush you or motivate you.
Golf is crazy. One round can totally turn things around and bring you back. The round Rick just put together is one of those rounds. This video documented everything I love about golf
Your ball striking has improved, as has your putting and chipping. But Guy had it right when he talked about the improvement in your attitude. Your mental game has made the difference!
I am glad they didn't tell you that you were on for a course record, as this was without doubt the most relaxed and free golf you have played and that course record would have made you push too hard. So well played Rick Great videos.
Quality viewing lads as always. The only thing i'd change is Guy's instant and detailed commentary of every shot he hits the moment it leaves the club face 🤣🤣
@gtaylor20 I reckon Bryson did that in his recent video with Trump. The only difference is I reckon it was done many times as a condition on Trump taking part. Commander in Cheat.
Golf is so funny. Rick (as we all would) is walking off the course feeling great shooting an amazing round. Imagine if that scorecard was reversed and he played 16-18 like he did 1-3. He would be waking up in the middle of the night and punching the pillow for topping it on 18 when he could have shot the course record and had the best round of his life. Well done Rick!!
I know it's been said here already a bunch, but listening to Rick play through this first hole is so inspiring. It is very common for golfers to have a bad first tee shot and let it define their round. I am one of them. Brushing it off is easier said than done. This video is a Masterclass on composure and acceptance and it is obvious that Rick has been working on this part of his game. Good on you Rick and happy to see you playing this well!
This is the Rick that we love to watch play golf. Positive and carefree attitude and not letting bad shots affect the rest of his game. Great round and hope to see more like this in the future.
Congrats Rick on this amazing down but then up day of golf. Rick shows just how caring of a man he is by taking time out of his day to play a round with such a golf challenged player, my hat goes off to you Rick.
Watching this last night was a surreal experience… what with this being one of my local tracks, Rick equalling the course record and breaking the fourth wall 20 mins in (nice touch!) and Guy being at his delirious best with his golf reactions. Great video, as always, by you both and the team - thank you!
Definitely the best round I've seen here in a long time... and the score is incredible too! :) So nice seeing both of you having fun and laughing after good and bad shots, wadda joy to watch!
That was a top round Rick, you kept your emotions in check and reaped the benefits. The old saying, keep what's happening between the ears positive. Don't know what happened to Guy, but we all have those days. I love the banter between you guys. A great video, enjoyable to watch.
Was good to see guy play out the round an even look like he was having fun. Even a bad round can still be fun. Out in the sun having a laugh with your mate thats what golf is about for me. Great video rick
Let's go, Rick!! Bit of a rough start, but well played after! That Par-6 really turned it around! Saw many glimpses of incredible golf. Tough round for Guy
My go to course. Amazing value for the condition of the course. You can always get a tee time and the tech in the buggies to great. Glad you enjoyed the course guys!!
Awesome vid Rick. Some great golf. Laughing off that start and seeing you maintain that positive attitude made all the difference. Pleasure to watch.👏👏
I play off 21 and regularly shoot high 90s round the West Midlands and give myself a hard time. This video shows golf is hard and so it that course and I should be kinder to myself. Great video. Great to see one of our local courses get on Ricks channel.
I got married here on a Saturday afternoon mid summer, 180 wedding guests lined the 18th to watch all the golfers hit into that green. The one day I was pleased to be watching and not playing 😂
This was really good to watch Rick. And guy stuck with a poor round this time and still had fun. Well done both on what looked like a difficult course 👏👏
Great golf by Rick. It actually didn't look out of place with him playing so well. Like I felt like I just expected him to have a lot of birdie opportunities. And well done Rick for not letting that first tee shot ruin the round - like Guy said, it's a great lesson for all of us, BUT equally so was Guy. Didn't have a great round and I'm sure he wasn't happy about his golf game, but you still have to be happy for your friends who are playing well, and still try (because it's not always easy) just appreaciate the fact you are outside playing a round of golf whether it's good or bad. Rick played great golf, but Guy was a highlight in this video for being relatable with bad golf, but still supporting Rick and just still loving the game of golf even when it obviously wasn't loving him
Rick. @20:13 you added the best thing I have ever seen on RUclips! Thank you for being kind and demonstrating humanity! I appreciate you and love your content! With Gratitude!
Two things: great attitude after the travails of the first few holes, and (crucially for the overall score) great distance control all day. If you’re around or on greens/pin high all day, you can really build a score. Great work, Rick!
Has anyone else noticed that all of the negative comments about Guy are all pushed down to the bottom? I reckon Guy bumps the few complimentary comments to the top
Could you please release an edit of this without Motormouth Guy? I only just managed about 5 minutes of this before his inane comments drove me to drink!
Well played Rick..👏🏽👏🏽 What a brilliant video. Such a pleasure to watch. Good words from guy about having a bad first hole then going on to play like you did. Superb. Keep up the good work 👌🏽
Watching Rick's mental game was super interesting this video - you talked yourself into a great score, which was fun to watch! (Guy talked himself out of every important shot too - talking about how hard each tee shot is 🤣) - A great lesson for all of us!
Nice play after a rough start! Reminds me of a 71 on a Par 71 Home Course where I lipped out for a 69 from the fringe and was 7' by and 2-putted for 71. On another course I tied the course record with 37-32=69 after asking what the course record was before the start of play. Of course there is always 1-2 holes where either a putt won't drop or you make a bad decision or forget to check your alignment. I think Rick could have had 69 with a better warm-up as I suspect that neither Rick or Guy hit any balls or played say 3 holes prior to this match. Arnold Palmer once made a statement about FOCUSING a bit extra on the first 3 holes and the last 3 holes, and he's obviously right! I think being CAREFUL on the last 3 holes keeps you out of trouble and getting in pre-round practice is Huge for a good start!
Cool course! And great round, as much as i love the "relatable" golf content when youre struggling, was great to see you really go off and have a great one.
Gday Rick! Just wanted to say that little hello at 20:10 in the clip was kind. Little things like that can really help people who might be having a rough day.
Well played rick, all your hard work is paying off, and it is showing with incredible rounds like that, the way you fought back in that round was incredible you should be very proud
So fun to see! Well done Rick! Also big shout out to Guy... buddy, we've ALL been there. Heck, Ricks been there a lot of the last couple years HAHAHAHAHAHA. Great video!
It's great to see you guys playing a course I know and love! My heart goes out to Guy, but I would love to have an 87 as my bad round! It of a shame about the green side bunker being puttable. That said a great course and great value for money. Come back and check out this and other courses in the midlands chaps 🙌🏽
I just had full hip replacement surgery and my golf is shut down for awhile 😢. It’s great to have a channel like this to at least keep my head in the game. Prish yate you Rick for sharing all your success with us. Great job!
This must be my favourite Rick Shiels video. He had fun! Didn’t take it too serious and Guy is a great golfer but made me realise making a triple is absolutely fine. So good
Great stuff rick. Suggestion. I dont think we need to hear guy talk through his shots and process so much. I get having his round on.camera a bit. Helps the flow of the round and what not. But his role should be different than ricks in these videos. I think it actually took away from the video today...and not the first time
Great round. I ruptured both biceps tendons and had to have surgery last Friday. No golf for another 3 months, but I am glad I get to watch someone playing well while I recover.
Congratulations Rick ,Great Golf. and thank you for all your great content, I am a 16hcp and Last week I managed to break 80 for first time after 40 years of golf ....smashed a 76 🥳 feels good, cheers!
So great to see you play a course I’ve actually played at 🥰 Had one of my best ever round there. Really nice course, gotta be tactical on a lot of holes.
I PLAYED GOOD GOLF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm pleased for you Rick.

Only 15 minutes in so far and it’s looking pretty rough lol
That's the same as my local golf course Thorpe wood in Peterborough Cambridgeshire
@@MrShocktakan I feel like I am being trolled.
Rick’s best golf starts off with a proper top off the tee double bogey. One of us.
hahaha
Best round I ever shot started with an identical shot as Rick's, a proper top straight into the bushes 50 yards away. It can either crush you or motivate you.
I don't mind a bad first tee shot. It removes all my expectations early doors 😂
@@RickShielsPGAdid the same thing today. My ten year old son said “looks like you’re playing golf dude.”
Rick doesn't always break 75, but when he does, he does it on a par-74 course. 🍻
This is the Rick I love! Light hearted… funny…. Not to hard on himself after first shot and pond shot early on! Really enjoyed this one 😂
Thanks so much
Here here! Well said! 👏
I thought the shot on 3 was wonderful too, gutted that it didn’t stay dry.

Your ball striking has improved, as has your putting and chipping. But Guy had it right when he talked about the improvement in your attitude. Your mental game has made the difference!
Guy is truly having a "one of us" type of round and I appreciate its relatability honestly
Exactly my thought 👏
Yes but bit talkie
Guy wrote this comment himself , must have a number of profiles , nice try guy 👍
Eh the whole “relatable” golf shtick is getting kind of old honestly. I want to see good golf not an hour of someone trying to break 90
Get rid of the Nikes and get some spikes on.
One of the all time quotes "When you think golf isn't evolving he said i am just going hit my mini driver at the robot on this par 6"
LOL Rick checking in on the viewers while Guy is looking for his ball in the woods. just perfect.
I am glad they didn't tell you that you were on for a course record, as this was without doubt the most relaxed and free golf you have played and that course record would have made you push too hard.
So well played Rick
Great videos.
Quality viewing lads as always. The only thing i'd change is Guy's instant and detailed commentary of every shot he hits the moment it leaves the club face 🤣🤣
You would think he should be a scratch golfer the way he talks haha
Let’s get it Rick!!!!
20:12 I’ve been looking after a very sick dog for a little under a week getting about 2-3 hours sleep a night so I really needed this. Thanks Rick.
0:50 That's what we call a 'breakfast ball' all day Rick!
I agree but imagine the comments if he would have taken a breakfast ball
Just restarted his round... 😅
God invented the breakfast ball for a reason
Gotta respect rick for this. How many creators would have edited something like that out and just started again.
@gtaylor20 I reckon Bryson did that in his recent video with Trump. The only difference is I reckon it was done many times as a condition on Trump taking part. Commander in Cheat.

Reminds me of a place called Farmstead. 18 is a 787 yard par 6 that starts in North Carolina and you putt out in South Carolina. It's a great course!
This was so much fun to watch! Well done for making up for the slow start and then to match the COURSE RECORD! That's huge!

Rick played that par 6 really well. NEARLY EAGLE ON A 725 YARD HOLE
