    I am a Management Consultant in real life but in my Bootlosophy channel, I make videos about boots and all things boot related. This channel posts reviews of boots, unboxing of new boots, and follow-up reviews, and in doing so, may explore the philosophy of the brands and makers as well as the collectors!
    In this channel, I will give information found in my research about the brand, the construction, and the materials, but I will express my personal opinions about how I feel about the boots reviewed.

    Great interview Teck, really enjoyed the interview. Loved how he held up a Grant Stone and used it as a example of a good boot (firm heal counter, good torsional stablity, good size heel). Red Wing was also mentioned in this category but undoubtedly Parkhurst, Truman, and many other quality boots fit this group (he mentioned he owns these boots). I also liked the fact that he mentioned that leather will conform to your feet to offer firm support (such as the PNW work boots). I have all these boots and they feel great.

    Very informative video! I'm a barefoot shoe user myself but use dressy boots for my job as a teacher. I found that after I started using barefoot shoes or just being plain barefoot outside of work my feet feel very strong and flexible and don't like going back into restrictive boots. Despite that, I still love the look of boots so until I find a high quality recraftable barefoot boot I'll continue wearing my ordinary dress boots at work.

      I think Jim Green has one. There was a company making a GYW one as well.
      Russell Moccasin in the old days was probably the best at it when they used to do bespoke for them. Unfortunately I no longer believe they offer that.

    Great video, boot reviewers should do this more :). Always good to discuss the complexity of footwear from different perspectives.

    Loved this interview and the thought behind it. I also wondered if all of the manufacturer claims and reviewer statements were based on science or marketing. Good to know that much of the wisdom I've heard is consistent here, but the main thing being that it all depends on the person and the function of the boot. That's why a comprehensive interview like this is important--there's no simple answer.

    Fascinating video. Really great to hear Anthony’s expertise. A very much needed video in the boot world. Thanks.
    I’ve become very interested in this kind of thing since suffering with various foot aches and pains as I’ve been getting older. I bet all the younger boot reviewers will start thinking about this more and more as their feet age, too.
    I’ve discovered through trial and error, that I need a secure heel and instep and then everything else falls into place for me.

    Regarding support from boots, in the hiking community there is very much a movement to lightweight footwear and trainer style shoes even in really wet and muddy conditions. If you look at footwear from brands like Walsh hill runners have been using lightweight shoes (with deep lugs) for decades.
    The belief is that most ankle support comes from the heel counter (not a boot shaft) and allowing water to drain away from wet shoes is better than trapping it inside.
    The other factors are that weight on your feet is far more significant than weight on your back (you lift your feet thousands of times per km) and boots weaken the feet because they are rigid.
    You need that rigidity in snow for wearing crampons or kicking steps and to protect from the cold but otherwise they wear trainers.
    I'm somewhere in the middle on this having worn beefed up trainers when younger, lighter and fitter but now I'm fat and old...

    Teik, it’s interesting you clarified “thongs” being flip flops. Growing up in the 1980’s we referred to them as thongs too. I think it must have been at some point in the 1990’s that we started calling them flip flops. Maybe it was because thongs started being used to describe women’s underwear. Never thought about this much until now. lol

    I’m about to leave the ADF after 15 years and let me tell you the terrible boot options has caused me so many different foot issues over that time. It was such a frustrating thing to have to put up with over my time. Things are a little better these days with more options but it'd still be so much better to be able to choose my own within a reasonable spec.

    As someone with high arches (not the medical condition kind), having high arch support does not affect walking very much. However, having it for standing is great. It spreads out the weight across the foot. In a normal boot like a Iron Ranger my weight feels 50/50 on the forefoot and the heel of my feet which is uncomfortable for me and causes me to shift/shuffle around. In my Nicks the weight is shared into the arch area and spreads out the weight (for me: 20/40/40 forefoot/arch/heel) which has been good for all day comfort.

    • @CptAngelADVlogs
      @CptAngelADVlogs 9 месяцев назад

      Your arches need to be trained by going barefoot or using barefoot shoes. The discomfort will stop once your feet are strong enough. They don't need "support". NO muscle has ever needed "support". We only do that with foot muscles because for some reason they teach us that they can't do what they've evolved to do and support our weight..

    • @anthonycox1185
      @anthonycox1185 9 месяцев назад

      Good point. Walking and standing are different on the foot. Arch height and dynamics of it changing through gait are both a function of overall foot architecture plus degree of flexibility not just muscle function. More standing than walking, hard flooring surfaces and weight carried by the lower limbs all play a part.

    • @averyj.steele1074

      @@CptAngelADVlogs Sounds like a bunch of horsesh1t. The five finger and barefoot bros love repeating this nonsense, which is backed up by nothing. People have arches, get over it. If you say no muscle needs support (says who, you?), then it's just as silly to talk about training them.

  • @CptAngelADVlogs

    My best friend was a professional basketball player with the flattest feet you'll ever see. He could barely walk without hyper expensive insoles and it ruined his career. I made him wear barefoot shoes by buying him some as a gift. His podiatrists kept telling him it was impossible to fix because of genetics. A few days ago he showed me that he now has a normal arch and walks normally. He just felt sad about how he wasted all those years.. Was it a miracle? No.. It's common sense. Let feet be feet. Arches need to be TRAINED like any other muscle, not "supported". Don't put fear and pseudo science over common sense..

    • @blaight87
      @blaight87 9 месяцев назад +4

      Common sense IS pseudo science. 😅
      Anecdotal evidence is the opposite of science.

    • @anthonycox1185
      @anthonycox1185 9 месяцев назад +1

      I’d be interested to know if your friend is now playing basketball as this is an intense sport for the legs and feet. Training feet is possible but takes time and commitment. Of the studies done, two have shown that correctly prescribed orthotics strengthen the foot muscles. Posture for gait is more than just arch height.

      Citation needed. Not to mention, who cares? Do you feel superior for having strong feet? Other than bragging on the internet, it isn't doing much for you.
