Who Am I?
I am a Management Consultant in real life but in my Bootlosophy channel, I make videos about boots and all things boot related. This channel posts reviews of boots, unboxing of new boots, and follow-up reviews, and in doing so, may explore the philosophy of the brands and makers as well as the collectors!
In this channel, I will give information found in my research about the brand, the construction, and the materials, but I will express my personal opinions about how I feel about the boots reviewed.
Full Disclosure
If any video is sponsored, I will declare it clearly in the video and in the description. Even if a video is sponsored, I will review the product openly and honestly giving you my personal opinion, warts and all, of the product.

This video lives up to the Boot Philosophy ethos. Brilliant!
This channel is a 💎. It’s really great for just informing and also relaxing.
This is ASMR I didn’t know I needed.
Your videos are unmatched. Thank you for your hard work!
This is a great concept for a video! I really enjoyed your take.
Great video and reviews, love your channel, keep up the good work.
Great video with good selection. Thank you!
Love the deep dive and the amount of time you put into the start of this video editing
Great video idea, Tek. Nice intro too
Great video! Those black diesel boots look killer!
You're a legend, Uncle Teik. Regards from South Africa!
You really opened up my eyes on boots! Thank you for pointing out which boots are for formal wear!
Great idea for a video. Thinking about it, I wear casual clothes mostly so that’s where I should aim to spend the most of my boot budget.
Love the clever camera work at the beginning.
I thoroughly enjoy your work ethic in keeping all of us entertained and informed with your knowledge and passion for the boot community. The production quality in your videos is also noticeably improving (not that it wasn’t good to start with).
Good on ya Teik 👍
I get my AE higgins mill's seconds... My third AE pair.I think this part of my life just overwhelmed the other 2/3 😅.
Thank you for the video. The iconic boot/dress becoming a boot walk was a great detail 👍.
If I wanted a good outdoor boot - I'd be shopping at Meindl, Hanwag or Lowa. I would also consider Altberg, or Zamberlan, Asolo, La Sportiva or Scarpa.
Those "outdoor" boots you suggested, would be my casual - Sunday boots. Far too good to get muddy and grimy 😉
Another quality video by Teik!! I have often thought about my collection of boots in the same manner, purpose built. Agree, why settle for a single boot to do it all when you have so much to choose from at different price points. Solid choices with sound reasoning.
Great recommendations. I don’t have a Chelsea boot yet and need to add one to the mix for sure.
I love the black rm Williams boots
I really like videos like these and cool intro and good picks. Honorable mention. Dressy alden indy boot. Casual wolverine 1000 mile. Work any moc toe maybe Truman upland moc toe. Thank You for sharing.
Hi!Very nice video as always. thanks
Great video
A very interesting concept is the basis of this video. I am old now and a Chelsea pull-on is very appealing. I normally wear Mephisto handmade (not custom-made) shoes.
Excellent selection, Teik. I think the type of leather plays a good part in choosing the purpose of the boot. A great example is the Grant Stone Diesel boot. You may go with a smooth CXL and get more formal footware, or go with a rough out or waxed suede and then have a more casual one within the same model.
In my list, I would include the Alden Indy 405 in calf leather or a shell cordovan for a more formal occasion and another make-up in rough out with a wedge sole for a more adventurous journey.
Thank you, Teik, for sharing your insights!
Great idea for a video!
Loved the wardrobe changes in the opening. Very clever! I have White’s MP’s and Wolverine 1000 Mile cap toes. Love them. The White’s are just amazing boots. Had a terrible experience with Thursday boots. I’m leaning towards Allen Edmonds for a pair of dress boots. I’m a size 15D, so most of these other manufacturers aren’t an option for me. They just don’t offer boots in my size. You’re channel is awesome!
Great video!
Excellent concept! I would say Carmina black Chelsea for dressy, Grant Stone crimson diesel for grab and go, and White’s MP for “workwear”, or Iron Ranger, or Grant Stone brass boot. The brass boot with the crepe sole is so comfortable.
I just ordered my first PNW boot on the White's MP on the cinnamon waxed on the 5050 last in June for the arch support. I've worn and abused my Alden 405's for over a decade and don't buy new stuff often, but always wanted a cap toe boot. 10 Brannock and the people at bakers recommended 9.5E since I don't want my toes smooshed. Looking forward to their arrival.
For dress boots, I highly recommend you check out Beckett Simonon boots! I have the Jodhpur style and the quality and style is just fantastic.
Wow!! What a subject and you tackled it head on Teik!!! Very very well done
Hahaha Thanks Dale!
Excellent video! Thank you and God bless :)
Rossi boots are great
My choices would be: Iron Ranger for casual, Jim Green Razorback or AR8 for outdoor. Thinking of buying a pair of black Thursday Captains for the dressy part.
Another great video mate. 👍
I know for sure that being a boot guy, you've heard of Japanese boots i.e. White Kloud. If you have any of those in your closet, it would be such a pleasure for us to see your take into those.
Keep up the vids mate 👏
Here in the states you see a lot of folks wearing cowboy boots (at least the more subdued ones) in business professional. Makes sense, I think things like Tecovas look very dressy in black.
Take a look at the Moorby boot from Canada West as a more affordable alternative to Viberg.
Can confirm, as an Aussie trade work contractor I've lived in Redback chelsea boots for over 15 years.
Maybe one of the better overviews of dressy boots I’ve seen. The starting-point is dress and boot isn’t something that naturally overlap. A boot for a dress has to be like these shown here: snug; tight-fitting, and with leather you can polish.
PS. You need to start exploring English shoemakers.
Hey am watch from uk, london
2nd video of yours I have watched, enjoyed them both. My comment is that I have a pair of boots with soles that resemble the chelsea casual wedge soles. They seem to pick up oils and dirt and distribute it throughout the house. Don't wear them anymore.
I was a career plumber/pipe fitter working largely in water reclamation plants for 32 years so I lack any semblance of fashion sense. Given that history I've warn a highly polished pair of Redwing 4473-2 with the zipper insert to everything requiring something above full casual mode. Yep. Can't take me anywhere.
😂😂😂But I bet you’d be great to have a beer with!
@@Bootlosophy That's where my skills lye these days.
You might want to take a look at Aquila’s D’Oro collection. My wife gifted me one for my birthday/ early Father’s Day gift and I must say they’re pretty well made shoes.
I understand from their website it’s a glued sole construction rather than GYW or Blake stitched.
Of these, I believe only White's MP, the Red Wing Moc Toe, and RM Wiliams' Craftsman come in narrow widths. That's assuming the 10875 work version of the Red Wing and the MP-last version of the MP. White's may have narrow 5050 lasts, but I haven't checked. For narrower-footers, Allen Edmonds and Alden make dress and casual boots. Truman also told me I can still reach out for B-width boots on their 79 last, though they'll have to be made, not shipped from stock. Nicks, Frank's, and JK will also do higher-budget casual options.
Xaxaxa meindl or salomon or haix, and keep on rocking
I combine outdoor and casual / dressy I try not to visit too often. thanks for the vids Teik. Maybe you can check out a Drew's Boot (Rowdy)?
I’m thinking of a made in Leon logger
Whoa what!? Teik’s choices in Teik’s channel weren’t my picks! Unthinkable!
But for real I think this is the perfect way to think about fashion advice! We all live essentially these three lives, just different proportions of them. My only comment is I think your bottom two tiers could be consolidated into beginner/budget-minded, and another tier added for high end MTO, RTW, and semi-bespoke since some serious boot nerds won’t blink an eye spending $900-2000 USD
The boot snob in me is astonished there are so many options in the sub 500 class…
I’d be partial to the Higgins Mill vs the grant stone for the fact they’re made in USA, but that may be my regional bias showing since I’m in the USA :)
As a fellow Aussie, its super interesting to see how Chelsea boots are viewed here has gone both ways; they've more formal than usual, so can be worn with a suit, and they're more rugged than usual, so can be both heritage and contemporary workboots. Even across really different brands like Thursday and Carmina, they sometimes feel like a different genre of Chelseas from the various Australian ones
I think they are - then look at English Chelsea boots or Dealer boots for yet another genre.
@@Bootlosophy just had a look through them, that's so interesting! I think genre-wise at least for the Aussie ones it might partially be the gusset? It looks like almost all of them are wider at the top then taper, while outside that rectangles and wider bases seem more common? So between the double pull tabs and the gusset shape there's a sort of consistency even between say R.M Williams and Mongrel and Blue Steel's steel capped work chelseas
Great information man!! I’m looking at getting into the shoe scene. I’ve been watching your videos, Bedos leather works and of course, Tose Anvil. But in addition I’ve beeen watching a few others … any advice? I’m into computers.. WiFi specifically
Start with something basic, a Thursday or a Grant Stone. Then see which way you want to go
My choices: Dress boot is Allen Edmonds Dalton Wingtip; Casual is Thursday Vanguard; Outdoor boot is Red Wing Blacksmith in Copper Rough & Tough leather.
Solid choices
Teik (Tiek? Sorry if I misspelled), do you have any recommendations for guys with high insteps? I am a half size bigger than you, so I usually go for a 8.5, and the length is just right… but due to my instep having a slightly sharper upward angle, I often get tightness at the top of the toe box or around the laces. Looking at some Parkhursts.
For reference, Jim Green African Rangers work out of the box in an 8.5, but I had an awful time finding Allen Edmonds Higgins Mills that work. I tried everything, from 8EEE to 8.5E to 9D. Nothing was really what I would call a good fit.
I don’t know many but I think Grant Stone are better then most
Great video - I might have 3.5 lives (hockey coach lol)
🤣🤣🤣ok, maybe add sneakers!
@@Bootlosophy - why I love boots is that they feel like my hockey skates. But coaching I am usually going with a chukka, Indy's or cap toe, (Iron Ranger, Truman 79 Last, etc.) Great video!!!!
Would it be appropriate in Australia to wear the RM Williams Craftsman in black suede with a suit and/or with dress pants and a Blazer?
I think so
In Australia, are Chelsea boots worn with formal attire? If not, what type(s) of mens footwear are?
Teik I thought that your whites in CWF were in the 55 last not in the 5050. Were you wrong the first time when you reviewed them or are you mistaken now? Im only asking because I'm planning to order my own MPs and love the shape of your MPs in CWF, and I would like to get them in the same last as yours.
I was wrong the first time! I asked the seller who said 55. Then I read what the 55 should feel like so I asked Whites who said 5050!
@@Bootlosophy thank you so much for your reply.
Teik! I'm having a dilemma. I ordered some Grant Stone Diesels but am worried they're not quite the boot for me, as I want something that can seamlessly blur your categories #1 and #2 but that will live more in #2 as my wardrobe is very casual. I'm thinking of Viberg 2040s in CF Stead 'Whiskey Phoenix' waxed leather (dark brown), but I'm worried about the unstructured toe box on those collapsing. I haven't tried on either the 2040 or 2030 but like the idea of the 2040 because of the wider, more Munson -like last. However, I'm really confused about an unstructured toe on a boot so expensive. Please help!!!
Wait until you get your Deisels and then see
As much as I'd love to try a pair of whites MPs, paying $780 vs $480 from Trumans... it's a hard to swallow pill.
Just wanted to say howdy!
Howdy!
Forgot to add for work depending on maybe Thursday diplomat?
❤❤🎉🎉
I wish I could get these boots in Bangladesh. It's so frustrating watching these amazing boots & cant even buy them
YOU TRY PARKHURST BOOTS?? THEY LOOK WELL MADE
YOU LOOK MY CHANNEL? PLENTY THERE
My six pairs of Boots for different occasions, Ian Harold, better than RM williams in my humble opinion, Grenson Fred Tan triple welt leather soles, Cheaney Albert, ll in Mahogany, Loake Loxley with rubber welted soles, Hunter Balmoral wellies, and Timberland Earth keepers Chelsea Boots, every occasion and weather conditions covered.
Is it possible to buy grant stone in UK?
From their website but I think UK charges duty
pls pls can you advise me ;) i am hesitating to buy red wing iron or RM william Gardner
i know that is 2 diffrent boots but !!!
They are two different boots. You want laces or Chelsea? You want workboot or casual?
@@Bootlosophy many thanks for quick response,, I want both compromises;)
More interested to chelsea .
Than can wear it casual and daily ,,
On the paddock?
Paddock = field or stockyard
The “stolen valor” things from blue collar guys (when non blue-collar guys wear workwear) in the US is real. I just want to know if it works the other direction. If I wear a full suit to my job in Manhattan, do I get to have similar disdain for the bricklayer who I see wearing a suit at a wedding?
I doubt it, not at a wedding. But unfortunately we’re all human so someone in another suit-inappropriate occassion will probably look down their nose at them for “not belonging”
OU HAVE GOOD TASTE
THANK YOU
You don't like doc martin's??
No
Three lives? Four, if you are also a motorcyclist.
👍
sorry, the 'outdoor' boots are still not hiking boots, and nobody i know would ever hike in boots like this. hiking boots are a specific and very different category of footwear with an entirely different performance envelope, that these traditional boots could never touch. in the 50's, yes, today, absolutely not.
