- White’s Boots MP Boot is my Grail boot and I was chuffed when I was able to get this pair - the MP Sherman to be exact - in Natural Chromexcel on the MP Last. Here’s what I think of it now that I own it.

Who Am I?
I am a Management Consultant in real life but in my Bootlosophy channel, I make videos about boots and all things boot-related. This channel posts reviews of boots, unboxing of new boots, and follow-up reviews, and in doing so, may explore the philosophy of the brands from time to time!
I have owned boots for decades, but to be honest I have owned them as functional pieces of footwear. It wasn't until early 2020 when COVID struck that I started online shopping for boots to an obsessive degree. I love the aesthetic of boots and I love finding out more about how they are made. I now own an insane number of boots, and one day I may sell some of them (just not right now).

I totally agree with your view that a boot can be appreciated aesthetically without denigrating it’s work legitimacy! I have purchased most of my lace-up boots as fashion purchases. I wish our society could appreciate the fact that we appreciate the boot for other reasons and are not putting the boot down. I guess such people don’t know how to accept a compliment!
I use my White’s boots for work AND for casual fashion… Although admittedly, I am relatively new to the high-end handmade boot scene, I hadn’t noticed any such “controversy” over work boots being used as fashionable items… I don’t reckon very many tradesmen are coming RUclips for boot videos or participating in any sort of “community” of boot collectors. Lol
I like how you show how the boots work with different outfits. It gives me new ideas how to outfit my boots. Love your videos hope you keep at it.
Just got my first pair in. I was convinced after watching all your videos on the MP. They are amazing and worth every penny
You present like the boot grandpa that I never knew I needed
😂😂😂
An impressive big brute of a boot. The kind of boot that would make you feel like you can take-on the world. 😁
Being in the position of making the decisions on what boots to order from whites. I’ve found your videos to be the ones that help me learn the most. Thank you.
natural chromexcel is one of my fav leather. Patina very well. I have not found any issue with White's boots. got three pairs. you should look into Wesco boots also. they are very well made.
I’m beginning to discover them
I appreciate all your videos, you did so much work for new boot nerds
I appreciate your comments about how those who view these kinds of boots as essential tools might understandably feel threatened or disrespected by those who do not need them for work but buy them primarily for their beauty and quality. Thanks for showing us how to buy and wear boots in a way that is respectful to others!
These look great. A great all around boot except for dressier occasions.
Great review as usual, good job!
Wonderful boots, wow. You produce great videos. Thank you.
Waiting for my second pair of bounty hunters. First pair were one full size too big (my fault) so my nephew is rocking a fantastic pair of boots.
🤣🤣Our loss is always family’s gain!
This is probably my favorite boot of all time, i pray the new owners dont destroy this brand
This is a brilliant review. And spot on! I ordered a pair of these exact boots from whites and it took approximately 4 months to arrive. Your description is exact. When wearing these boots there is no doubting the integrity of the build. And on the “when to wear” recommendation- I agree. If I’m in need of a dress boot these are not them- call in my Alden’s. But everyday wear - the white MPs with cap toe are very diverse. Well done sir! Great review!
Best review on the mp- Sherman's I've seen
Teik, that’s the best put speech about the american workman gatekeepers I’ve ever heard.
I’m a new comer to Whites and found your videos extremely informative, well done 🔥🔥🔥👌🏾
My grail is now the Rolling Dub Trio Caspar from Tokyo.
Great review these are really cool.
Hello and congratulations for your videos , they are very informative. Just to make a quick comment about the history of the recent service boots as we know today, they was first developed by Viberg with their 2030 last wich was made trough a research of old military lasts . They had a lot of success and all the other brands service boots are inspired in this viberg last, also this mp and Thursdays. Best regards
You’ve helped making White’s MPs my grail boot now
Kudos! Thank you for sharing your expansive knowledge regarding White's MP and Sherman boots. These have become my favorite boots with some Viberg essential models running a close second. My most recent purchase was White's Bison from Baker's boots which are absolutely incredible. I've had my eye on the Natural CXL and your review has sealed the deal for me.
I just discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago. We own several pairs of the same boots (so you obviously have fantastic taste!). I like your presentation style very much. Keep the videos coming.
Hi Teik, thanks for your sharing your honest opinion and excellent review as always, this is also my grail boot in burgundy!
I enjoy your videos and am getting hooked, you do a great job! I have a pair of Whites Natural Chrome Excel Bounty Hunters form Baker Shoe and they're so cool and well made! Thank you!
Just the review I was looking forward to. I just ordered my own pair last week! Except I chose mine without the toe cap, half lug sole, and in British tan cxl. I’m very excited but the 20-24 week lead time might kill me. Thanks for another great review and sharing your knowledge and experience.
Great video again Teik. These are my favourite boots I own. Since I've discovered White's, I wish I didn't spend money on some other boot brands and saved up longer for more of these. It's 100% worth it. My only other boots that compare quality wise are my Nicks, but I find the White's more comfortable.
Great video. I bought a custom pair of White's CXL Half Lug Bountyhunters, with the medallion toe cap. Very similar in many ways to your MP Shermans. They are built like tanks (as you said!) The only issues that I've had is that the toe cap has taken on a darker patina much more drastically and dramatically than the rest of the upper. I wish this was not the case and that it was more consistent throughout. Also, due to my 6EE size, I feel that the foorbed is likely noticably stiffer to flex than a typical longer, larger sizes. With that being said, they are beautifully unique and robust. Thank you for the great videos. I appreciate your eloquent and thoughtful commentary and insights.
Great review, Teik. I finally scored a pair of Sherman's in #8 Chromexcel. Same 1/2 sole and last as yours shown here. I absolutely adore this last. You and I wear a similar size. I'm 8.5D Brannock and the 8D Sherman is perfect for me. I have a narrow heel, a moderate width forefoot, a high arch, but relatively low volume foot with a moderate instep. These fit me so similarly to my Viberg 2030 service boots in 8E. I love the arch support and the lacing just dials them in. I'm envious of your White's collection.
4K followers and counting - well done!!!
Thank you, I’m constantly surprised and very honoured
Very nice video!
Very nice 😎👍 thanks
If they don’t like why and how you wear your boots they don’t have to watch. There’s a reason you have all these viewers it’s cause your god at reviewing and showing wat will look good and wat King of styles ,etc.
I do wish it was easier to find White’s factory seconds.
Currently waiting on some custom White's boots... 😌
Semi annual sale going on as of this moment 061423 It ends 061823. 20% off Thanks for sharing your insight around the sizing. Helped a great deal in determining what size I needed to order.
I sent in my measurements for a pair in December and they called a few weeks back to suggest a C width. I've always worn the standard D you find everywhere even in White's own Perry boot so I'm a little nervous about them being too narrow.
Thanks for all your videos Teik, they are great. I grew up in Spokane and Whites are legend. Good choice for a grail boot.
If I lived in Spokane, I would be very, very poor
Great vid! Your boots have aged very nicely. When you say they are very comfortable how would you compare it to a grant stone or Parkhurst boots service style boots for example (what I perceive as a tier down in price) or even an Alden Indy which is around the same price.
I think my Indy's are my most comfortable for my feet. These are more comfy underfoot (arch support) than my GS or PH although I think the 602 and Leo lasts are shaped the most like my natural feet.
Very nice boots....1 year review?
Great review! I have White's Bounty Hunter's in black horsehide. I've beaten 'em up for 5 years now, and I'm in construction (project management; so I'm not out there swinging a hammer but I'm on site daily). I was looking for a second pair to add while I resole my Bounty Hunters and I think this fits the bill quite nicely. I have Danners and have had Red Wing & Wolverine in the past... but nothing beats a custom made Whites! (I sent them my measurements) Perhaps I will try to find a natural horsehide material in lieu of natural chromexcel; the chromexcel I've had from Allen Edmonds was *outrageously* easy to scratch aka was very fragile.
I think Whites clicking is better, but nevertheless CXL is easy to scuff. How about trying their cinnamon waxed flesh? That’s a tough leather.
@@Bootlosophy - working in Southern California - we usually have very dry conditions and thus, a lot of dust on my jobsites. I would imagine a waxed flesh or even standard roughout would attract dust like crazy. Now I don’t need to have pristine boots - but I just want to make sure I select the appropriate leather for the job. I’ve never owned waxed flesh. With that in mind, your thoughts?
@@billfrigo7602 waxed flesh is very different from waxed suede. WS has a sticky surface but the surface of Horween’s WF has a thick solid layer of wax. Mind you, once patches eventually wear off, the nap may attract more dust but as it’s not “sticky” you should be easily able to wipe/brush off
Hey Teki, loves your Video. May I ask what the bag you are using in 3:20? Thank you!!
Henk Berg from Tasmania
You asked what it would take to destroy them... I destroyed my whites firefighting boots in 2 years. The nails were coming through the bottom and eventually separated soles from uppers. They were my everyday boots 👢 😢. I also wear through my Redwing lifetime guarantee wool socks in 3 months in vietnam and my packer cowboy heel caps in 2 months in tokyo, and my nicks leather boot laces in under 2 months. Ask me how lol 😆
😂😂😂🤦
I am leaning towards picking up a pair with the half lug soles.
I am debating between the black chromexcell and the black waxed flesh.
Anyone have input about the pros/cons of each or if one is designed for specific style of dress (casual vs less casual) etc. thank you
I’m debating between the natural cxl and the British tan cxl. (I can’t get both at the same time)
Anyone have thoughts about usage? Is one more “fashion forward” dressy versus the other? Thanks
Hi Tek, I have recently ordered a pair of Whites MP-Sherman boots in English Brown. I normally wear a siize 8 D shoe. All of my Thursday boots are 7.5 D and fit well. I ordered the Whites in 7.5 D. After taking note of your ideas on sizing for these boots, I have begun to question my choice. The boots were on sale for a nice discount and will take 20-25 weeks, Yikes! Do you suggest I change my order and go a full size down and an E width?
Tough call. My advice generally in the MP last and compared to Thursday in my experience, is to go a full size down but a width up. However as I suggested in the video taking my usual half down in D isn’t a huge issue for me. They still fit, ultimately
Have you used Sno Seal? It's a beeswax treatment...
Whites look good but i have seen quite a few examples where the finishing and smaller details are lower than what one might expect at this price point . Especially compared to say a Grant Stone or even the Indonesian makers. What's your experience with the finer details ?
In my view, they are no comparison to GS in the finer details, but not because they are “poorer quality”.:I think as I try to say in the video, they come from a work boot tradition. So things like stitch density, or perfect alignment of stitching, or even the loose stitchdown flap I had on another pair is not their focus - as they intend to make a strong and durable boot. To me, that’s fine once I understand their “mission” if you know what I mean.
@@Bootlosophy got it. Yup, that's what I thought too. Thanks for the insight!
My grail boot right now is White's Rambler in black roughout but $700+ is just too much for me right now. Every once in a while I go to their site and drool over the photos.
They are coming out with stitchdown versions of some boots to cut down on build time and price. Nick's Aldert Striders look pretty sexxxy as well.
Yeah, you and me both, not to mention the wait. At the moment I’m just looking through eBay and Grailed to see if I can pick up good buys.
Thinking about ordering… but I’m getting a 7.5D for my measurement and I’m scared to order and it be the wrong size!
I know, stressful!
Do the different backstays offer different levels of support? Or is it just an aesthetic difference?
Just aesthetic
The heritage style service boots are not work boots nowadays. Modern work boots meet all sorts of safety standards and are usually certified that they meet those standards. Everything from slip, anti static and electrical resistance to toe protection.
These boots are "lifestyle" items made popular by the Japanese fashion industry.
I'm kinda hurt for cash, and I would love to get a pair, but can't. What about Grant Stone for a work boot? Thanks, Bobby
Depends what kind of work. In a workshop like say furniture maker, sure, but heavy work like construction, no
Could i wear these boots with a navy suit for war?
Do you know why Chromexcel is the only leather type/color that’s available for immediate shipment for both the M1 and Sherman?
I’m pretty sure it’s a seasonal luck of the draw, depending on what leathers they bought when, and what people have bought/ordered.
What's your favorite service boot?
MP’s!
What is your favorite color on these boots?
British Tan
I just got a pair of these based on your review. I got them in the 5050 last. You stated that these boots are long and would have prefer a 7.5 in E width but whites only offer D and EE. I think I need to update my order but Im cornered on the EE width being too wide. What do you think?
A question, which last are these boots built from?
MP last
@@Bootlosophy thanks, which would you say is the difference between the mp last and the 50 last? Im between these two for the boots.
@@ronaldcachoo I don’t know the 50
@@Bootlosophy oh sorry i mesnt the 55
@@ronaldcachoo check out my channel - there’s a review of the CWF in 55 and a size and last comparison of MP boots
A minor suggestion; I know down under you use the metric system where a "mil(l)" is understood to mean millimeter but us U.S. viewers use "mil" to mean 1/1000 of an inch. Maybe say the entire word so we don't jave to translate.
Good advice, thanks!
carl murawski took the White's MP boots apart and they are in fact not a true captoe
Tokyo based conglomerate.
Hang on, they *are* true captoe, but the second row of stitching is decorative. It doesn't go through both layers of the toe. Rewatch at about 13:20 in Carl's video. He even talks about how the cap could come loose and flap around if that one row of functional stitching comes apart. I could be wrong, but I interpret that and see in the vid what looks like two layers of thick upper boot leather on the toes of the Whites.
Actually it is a real cap but the extra row of stitching is just for looks.
@@AdamBrinson you are right, is a true captoe with just one row of double stitching working, I might have been miss-remembering from a different boot/video from rose anvil
The uppers are not turned in as you say. They are flanged out like stitchdown with the welt being hand stitched through the upper and insole and then being "rolled" over and stitched through. See this cross section image:
