    From the Pacific Northwest IMHO, gotta say Teik is the best boot reviewer in the world. In his naturally disarming presentations he understands and notes the importance of multiple side by side comparisons, talking lasts and vamps, and how different boots might or might not fit you. Now I’m ready to visit my boot store…the smell of grail-boots is in the air.

    Excellent video. And I think you might be the only boot guy that mentioned Brannock "to the ball of your feet", 22:07. Many makers only have sizing guides based on overall heel to toe length, with no mention of heel to ball, which is a major (and probably more important) part of Brannock sizing process. Just one thing of what drives me crazy about boot sizing. Another thing, as proven in the video, is that makers will just arbitrarily offset their sizing from Brannock. If you have a sizing guide that says "we're a half size down from Brannock"... well then just relabel your boots! And then there's the foot tracing... have 3 different people trace your feet and you'll get 3 different sizes...

    This has been very useful. I take a US 12 in Thursday if I want a snug fit (thin socks) and a US 12.5 for thicker socks and have a mix of the two. Other brands I take a UK 12 and even UK 12.5 as it is length and height in the toe box that matters.
    I have been considering the White's boots and it looks like a US 12 will work for me in both lasts as the extra length over Thursday will be ideal,.
    Some brands like Viberg and Grant Stone I ideally need a US 12.5 but they do not do that size and only do a 12 or 13 which is annoying when you are spending more than budget prices. I have a "snug" pair of Vibergs and a loose pair of Vibergs....
    Anyway, thanks again for a very useful comparison.

    • @Bootlosophy
      @Bootlosophy  Год назад +1

      Really, a full size down? No pinching or shortness in the toebox? I wonder if EE gives more comparative room than D.

    • @Nathan-zw7nq
      @Nathan-zw7nq Год назад

      @@Bootlosophy it does, the EE also increases the amount of room from the insole to the vamp, and my feet are a bit short for the width. I guess really it would be more a like a 10.25EE but I round up because 10 is just a bit too short.
      With a 10EE in most boots I find there is too much space in the toe box and my feet slip around a bit. With 9.5 I find I have that thumb width of space and the width fits perfectly as well. Fits like the Proverbial Firm, but friendly handshake. It’s why I mostly wear traditional boots instead of modern shoes because modern shoes are all either too big or too small for my oddly shaped feet. New Balance is the only shoe maker that makes shoes that fit me well. But those are just for jogging.

    0.4-0.5 cm or 4-5mm in length is equal to a have size in length. I can go up a half size if the toe is unstructured. That’s my TTS of 9D brannock in unstructured toe, otherwise I’m an 8.5D or 8E in boots.

    I'll bet people interested in the top brands of heritage boots would be willing to pay a reasonable fee to experienced local cobblers who would know how to accurately measure their feet for the specific brand's peculiarities they are interested in.
    For example, I've got my eye on a pair of Viberg's Service Boots but making the trek to Canada from South Florida for an on-site fitting on top of a pretty steep price is just too much.
    And at these prices, I don't want the stress and hassle of ending up with the wrong size.

The breaking in, of a pair of boots with so much leather, was really a bear, but once they finally molded to my feet, they are like firm supportive gloves for my feet. The most comfortable boots I've ever owned. No, it is not a requirement. In Australia, Aboriginal First Nations People have only just recently received some sort of reconciliation and recognition of their previous habitation of the country. In fact, they were not even citizens until 1965 despite serving in both World Wars, Korea, and Vietnam. Recently, it has been recognized as a respectful practice to recognize their culture, one of the cornerstones being Caring for Country, and the practice amongst the different nations to wait to be invited on to Country, and then to acknowledge they were on other traditional custodians' Country. I have worked with Aboriginal people for over 30 years and I feel that the respect for their cultural practice is well-placed and timely. To that end, other Australian institutions like Qantas and the ABC (our public broadcaster), and many publicly listed companies, have also taken this approach as well as governments and local councils and shires.

      @@Bootlosophy Finally received my replacement pair and quality is excellent. I love the look of these boots - toe not too pointy or too stubby - just right. Going 1/2 size down in wide is spot on for me. The original 10.5D was too long and too narrow for me. I wear 10.5 in Parkhurst, Truman and the White’s PNW last, 10E in the MP fits exactly like all the above boots.

    I don’t know if you mentioned but how is the arch support on the MP last compared to the Captain? I ask because I have a high arch and I feel most my shoes have no support including my captains

    Is the 55 last a big improvement to long standing comfort vs the Barry/MP last. Interested in this boot but unsure if the arch support improvement is worth the change in style between the lasts.

      I’m not sure (with my feet) I feel a “big improvement” but I find it more comfortable through the day.

    I use a red wing in 10, will whites size 10 fit me?

      I think in the MP or Barrie last you’ll need to go a half down and one width up. On any of their other lasts I think you’ll be good.

      @@Bootlosophy I ordered the Cutter in 10 E from whites. That’s the 55 last. I also ordered two pairs of Truman in size 10, I hope they will fit me also.

    Is there any arch support for MP boot? Just a little bit or close to none?

      Are you kidding? They are fully built up with leather and have incredible arch support. All PNW boots have mind blowing arch support, some say too much

    Did whites balance your heels well? I have a pair and the heels aren't well balanced and cause some pain.

      If your feet are like mine, reasonably average with slightly wide ball of foot, you’ll be fine. Maybe a pair of thick boot socks might be necessary 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Wouldn’t it be amusing if he trusted eBay so much so that he bought very expensive boots he thought were Whites brand but really they’re really good knock offs and he lives his entire remainder of his life loving his fake Whites boots and he’s none the worse for it. Lmao

      “He” doesn’t really trust eBay but I’ll do my due diligence on each boot on post (how to buy on eBay video coming up!). And man, you cannot fake the heavy all leather weight of Whites, we’re not talking Timbs here for sure!
