Barney Hall said it best. He taught me not to scream into the mike when something happens like Dale Jr. and Jeff Burton. They should watch and learn from a real broadcaster. He was the best.

Ken Squier is one of the reasons NASCAR racing became a sensation. He was the first to make the Daytona 500 great, along with CBS. Squier is gone and so is NASCAR. Totally different today than it was when racers were allowed to race. Very little meddling with the cars or the teams. Rest in peace Ken. Thanks.

Ken had a way of speaking that was almost like poetry. NASCAR is naturally such a dramatic sport. It's a highly dangerous sport, with unrivaled scope. The facilities are miles long, the speeds are over 200mph. Smoke and fire and roaring engines. Ken Squier verbally captured the poetry of NASCAR every broadcast. RIP to a true great.

I remember the first time I heard the name, the first NASCAR race I ever saw, the 1998 Daytona 500, was when Mike Joy handed it down to “the man who brought the Daytona 500 to CBS, Ken Squier,” as he proceeded to interview Dale Earnhardt when he won his first and only 500. I was 14 at the time and that was my introduction to NASCAR. In the years that followed, I took it upon myself to learning more about NASCAR and the rich tradition and historic moments that led the sport to what it is today, and I learned a lot from watching Ken and his colleagues in many archived videos. I don’t claim to be a huge NASCAR fan, but what knowledge I’ve acquired to enjoy the races I still watch today, particularly the 500, I owe to one of the true storytellers of the sport, Mr. Ken Squier. RIP, sir, and thank you.

Ken's voice was THE BEST for watching a race on TV - he brought so much DRAMA to the event but IN THE RIGHT WAY, so that you were forced to pay attention and get excited about the thrills, danger, skills, passions, and risks involved - exactly the things that motorsports fans are drawn to... RIP Ken you were one of a kind and thanks for setting the bar so high. At least a decent portion of the credit for the explosion of NASCAR's popularity late 80's into early 90's must be attributed to you 🏁

I remember listening to Ken on the radio in the late 70's. He piqued my interest in NASCAR, and as he was calling the race I would re-enact it with my Hot Wheels cars on the oval woven rug in my bedroom at Ft. McClellan, Alabama. Pencils lining the straights and pit road, books tucked underneath to create bankings. His was a remarkable voice with a remarkable impact. Then came the TV broadcasts and that changed everything. Thanks for the memories, Ken.

There is and never will be anyone more instrumental in NASCAR broadcasting than Ken Squier. He is a giant. If NASCAR had a Mount Rushmore, he would be on it with Bill France, Bill France Jr, and Junior Johnson.
