I met him around this time when I worked in a dept store. He came to promote something, I dont remember. but a bunch of my co-workers and myself ran into him while he was waiting to make an exit. He was a joy and very personable and spoke to us kindly, Will never forget that
Milton Berl was only 66 years old here. I had only seen him in the old Roasts when he was elderly. It's amazing to see him so healthy and 'younger' here.
The way Mr. Television walked backstage is the walk I admire so much. Such confidence and no worries of things getting in his way. When he joined the Rat Pat at the Sands in 1960, pushing everyone out of his way, is amazing. He can slap Sinatra, Rickles, Lewis and still be respected. Uncle Miltie. More like great great grandfather Miltie.
He was a very multi-dimensional performer. Very talented man. Vaudeville, they did everything, but I haven't seen anyone like this man. His brash persona is almost different from his Texaco Star Theater persona.
that's how late night should be, funny, it will never be the same, they have all let the cat out of the bag, brought their politics out for all to fight over
Love Milton, and Carson. I really think that Milton would have been great as Joker. Don't know, he has that Jokerish face and i Don't mean it in a disrespectful way. Anyway, thanks for all these videos!
Here is a question that I know the answer to! Why omit all the commercials from this show. Sure the video will be real long, but the memories that can spring up. And each city will have different commercials to watch, super!!!!!
This was recorded recently because there is a “.com” on the screen. Some shows do have old 70’s commercials like Crazy Eddie!! Remember? His prices were CRAZY 😝! Ha!
It seems odd that bars wouldn't have done much business on Tuesday night in the late 40's as most people hadn't bought television sets and bars were one of the places where you could watch Texaco Star Theatre.
But it all changed in just a few years. Everyone knew someone with a television set and you would go over and watch Uncle Miltey. He was a dirty older man though.
I like how this refutes all the commenters who say "Back then late night didn't do politics, it was just nice and polite." Criminals got outed then as now.
the difference being politics wasn't the focus 100% of the time like it is now. Colbert can't go 5 minutes without crying about Trump, it's disgusting.
They generally didn't do politics though, and it was more equal opportunity. They would crack jokes about Jimmy Carter/Nixon/Ford/Reagan. Today it is non-stop, and it is entirely one-sided. Johnny never talked down to half of his audience and treated them as if they were idiots/racists/bigots.
Milton gives Johnny a clue. Hold it. means it is a heart. Before means it is a black card and so on. Don't would be a diamond. Then Milton makes a statement that represent the card number. If he uses 10 words, it is a 10 of which ever suit he starts the first sentence with.
Milton was not shy about telling other actors how to act, or other comedic actors how to do comedy. Apparently, the people at SNL in the '70's could tell you about that.
Lot of those comedians got to play at Donald Trump's casino, or casinos, even Red Skelton. Don Rickles was once invited with his family to meet Trump, and Trump was trying to sell him a condo. Rickles took a dollar and said, "Leave me alone." I bet Trump didn't do anything like that with him ever again.
Stories are told that Milton, suffered a great deal of sexual abuse when he was a child. He happened to be extremely well endowed in the men's area. Both men and woman were known to of used him . What stories he must of hidden. Or this was the result of that abuse.
Hey DuskeyOwl, where can I find out more about these accusations that you claim about Milton, you have peaked my curiosity. If you have any websites that you would like to share with me, please share the website links with me. This is all new to me. Inquiring minds would like to know more about this, and I'm one of those inquiring minds. :-)
Can't stand Milton Berle in his later years. Horribly unfunny, mean-spirited jokes and out of touch with the audience. He's praising Johnny but at the same time he clearly doesn't want to be upstaged either.
i understand that Milton was the inspiration for people to really start buying televisions when his show went on the air in 1948 -- otherwise known as ''Mr. Television''....
I wondered why.I was too young, and dumb to even know he'd passed, and from what.I never liked that he had to hide his smoking,as we could always see him trying for a hit.

"one week, you're on the cover of Time, the next you're doing it."
More entertainment in one segment than in six years of Fallon
You are a smart man. Intelligence knows good humor.
Without a doubt! Two of the greatest comedians the world has ever seen doing what they do best!
Why blame Fallon when there's an audience for him
they don't have any more berles
Fallon sucks. Everyone is great. He wouldn't know compelling, interesting conversation if it sat on his face
Never seen Johnny so happy when his magic trick was a hit. Good for you buddy. Miss you so much. Humor at night died when you did sir. Ty
It was done with signals provided by Berle.

The tonight show, like everyone else says, was the one to watch. They had everything. Great show.

It's hard to believe that 1950's was old in 1974. Today 1980's is young in the 2020's. RIP Milton Berle and Johnny Carson.
Milton Berle should have went into political humor. You have to continue to create, and that's what he should have done. He was amazing here.
Milton was the greatest! One after the other.
GENTLEMEN PERFORMERS THE LIKES OF THEM NEVER TO BE SEEN AGAIN ! NO ONE CAN EVER MEASURE UP TO THESE TALENTS !
Milton was charming and funny as always. But that crowd was probably the worst of all time.
He was also a bully racist asshole. Pity Jack Benny and Debbie Reynolds are not alive to back this up!💩

Man I miss the old days . Now it's all about communism and anti-American bullshit on tv.

Uncle Milty was truly a Pioneer in the early days of Broadcast Television.
The men who were truly funny back then were : Sid Caesar and Ernie Kovacs
The magician they are referring to have seen was Bruce Cervon.

Can anyone explain the 2 3 4 that they say?
It's a reference to the timing/pace comedy's supposed to have. Say the punchline (1), wait for the laugh (2, 3, 4), repeat the process.
Thanks
No problem :)

Yep. It took a great one from us too soon. Miss Johnny. No one will ever touch him. Joan could have got close but we know the rest.
I agree. It reminds me of Walt Disney too. They were both so relatively young, and how horrible to know that it was smoking that did it.
