This is an old ritual song about an orphan bride. The girl has no parents. The river was considered the boundary between the world of the living and the dead. She goes to the river and asks for the blessing of marriage, she says that there are many people at home, but there is no father and mother. You hear Diana singing in a whisper, these are the words of the deceased mother of the bride. Then the girl is crying. In Russia, weddings sang sad songs to scare away evil, and the marriage of a young couple was happy. Such songs were called “weeping.” The figures behind Diana are spirits of water and forest.

Amazing how the world ...outside of the USA, has so much talent, class music. I was giving up hope for great music...but we need to look else where to look for REAL talent....International Music/talent. The music coming out of the USA just does not cut it for me anymore. This is art, this is music, this is everything.
14 years old ... but been singing since she was 5 ...heck that kid have proberly not done anything else but sing her entire life ... ofcause she's good. She hade a decade of training !
Same with Dimash ..everybody goes "from another planet" . i go "nope hes not" ... he also sang since he was 5 ? and was mid 20's when he got famous... that is two decades of training !
But yes they are very good ..but no need to over react if you think about why they are good . kids learns alot easier and faster, and if they havent done anything but singing there entire life, because the fully enjoy and commit to it. Then ofcause they are good .

I love her. I've never seen this particular performance before though,it may have just become my favourite performance of hers.
She was 14 yrs old when she was on this show....she just turned 16 yrs old in May. :-) The way one Russian fan explained the song to me is that it is an old traditional Russian song about an orphan bride going to ask her dead mother of what she feels about the marriage. That she as a bride to this new family feels alone in a room full of people. She goes to the river where the spirits of dead family are- to cry out to her mother. When you hear that gravely voice- it is to be the spirit mom speaking out to her. As a younger singer she yodeled very well- I think that truly helped her form her singing style. AWESOME singer!

Seen her on a video a month ago singing Wicked Game by Chris Isak. But this River song maybe her best performance I’ve seen. Thanks for sharing.
For all those looking for the absolute best vocal reactor or vocal coach... look no further.
And I’ll tell you why.
First off, Christi doesn’t interrupt or talk over the video she is reacting to. She lets it run its course straight through initially. You will find that 95% of the other reactors either stop the video ( some every 10 seconds) to voice an opinion or continuously talk over the video when all you want is to initially watch listen and be moved ( or not moved)
It’s disgusting!
Not with Christi.
After the video is finished , she then reacts by expressing her feelings about the performance.
Then when she’s settled down , she showcases and highlights specific parts of the song for a great analysis and even provides techniques to help you sing like the artist she is reacting to.
Highly informative and efficacious. And now if you care to further enhance your vocal prowess, she provides the links.
I’m not a professional singer but I love to listen and recommend vocalists who move me deeply. And recommend a vocal coach who reacts the way ALL vocal coaches should react but sadly don’t.

“ Human” ( again, amazing low register that reactors are confused how this technique? Is accomplished)
One aside:

“Hi-bye” ( short for hello goodbye)
About 3 years ago I made up that word ( “ hi-bye which is not in the dictionary)) to denote two friends acquaintances who pass one another but do not stop to converse. There’s no English equivalent but in Italian i believe it’s CAO ? in Jewish shalom.
I know there is a lexicographer’s convention each year where they convene to determine which new words will go into the next edition of Webster’s dictionary!

this performance is especially poignant, as Diana was abandoned as a child and raised in a Russian orphanage ........her adoptive Mum provided singing and voice lessons to help her overcome the trauma of her early years....Diana is a natural Contralto which, as you know, is the lowest female vocalist's register....this performance alone should make us all recognize and appreciate the talent of performers from the "world music" genre

i happened to stumble upon her song a few days ago. One word: eerie ! She also did a pretty weird "Wicked Game" (Chris Isaac) cover. I like the editing you do when you explain something and immediately put a clip of it. I think it would be much better if we could hear you while you are listening too.

@@geneboiko4585 No..not ME...WE. As in the majority (if not all). I watch a large number or reaction videos, and noone mutes their reaction. It is not a politeness issue, it is a reaction issue. If you can hear the other person, you can sort of share the experience with him. I just told you. If one wants to just watch the video of the song, he can go watch the original video. I don't know what is difficult to understand here.
Best reactors express what they feel easily and don't need any words. Worst reactors love to listen to themselves talk and miss out on best parts of performances. Someone like Diana, enchants you, so there are no words left until later, when brain gets back online. If someone wants to talk while Diana sings, they have their feelings completely blocked, and don't receive what's been offered. Technique could be analyzed to death, but it's only a tool to express what soul feels. Diana's singing gets to one's core, if one is emotionally open.

Just a side note...one Russian shared with me that Diana was one of the twins her mother was carrying. This mother aborted the other 11 babies and that was to be her fate also- but as you say- something spiritually happened and she was spared. The woman in the video with short dark hair is the woman who took Diana from the orphanage and raised her. She must have seen the talent that little child had and sent her to voice classes....the rest is history. We all were created for a special reason and man I cannot wait to see how her God given gift grows!

Hi dear, I have already listened to many of her songs and have a playlist of several of her MV. I found out about her 2 months ago. She does have a unique voice and has a very awesome technique in the way she sings. the song you just reacted to is a Russian folk song about a young lady who drowned in a river that separated her and her lover, now her lover speaks and listens to the river for her cries, In the Mexican tradition we too have something similar to this only we call her La Llorona. 1. Appeal to the river - a mystical appeal to the ancestors and to the higher powers
2. Appeal to her brother - her brother, also an orphan, what will happen to him after marriage. Why the brother in other versions of this song. And her child can not be, and she called him my baby. Looks like she's his older sister.
3. An appeal to friends - Yes getting married but anxious at heart that never smiles and no fun to her.

Awesome reaction, You should do wicked game next she killed that song as well. now she is living in Moscow after Master Krutoy took her under his wing, got her in an apartment for her and her adoptive mother so she can continue her music studies under his tutelage. Also, she was abused by her biological mother and taken into state care, where she got attached to one of the nurses in the orphanage that later adopted her. The woman you see in the video :) Amazing human overcoming all that adversity and becoming this amazing young lady. And grzz for master Krutoy. There are a lot of comments.. maybe you will see this. Diana was born in Ussirysk at the far eastern edge of Russia,. Her birth mother was an alcoholic and had 12 pregnancies, Diana was the only one that ‘made it’, but she was beaten badly and her mother tried to drown her. Eventually she wound up in the street at 3 with a broken collarbone. She has a scar on her face and her chest is not formed correctly. Relatives found her, luckily, but thought she was mentally ill so she went to an orphanage. She got adopted at 4 and started signing. She won this show ‘you are Super’ and had no lessons before that. According to her she could not sing. A lot of her vocal tone and yodeling sounds are ethnic.. When she won she told the judges she wanted to go to singing school in Moscow. One promised to cover her lodging and expenses while she did and another said he’d help her get in. They were both music execs. So .. that’s it. I find it interesting that her vibrato is fast but no where near as fast or pronounce as most girls from Western Russia. But she does have a way of anchoring herself with her swaying. It’s like you get one energy that is her voice and another that is the reflection of her energy from the ground. She kind of mixes the two. Way cool. That’s for not ruining it by stopping every few seconds! Nice reaction! Subscribed!

Christi if you want to see her whole talent you got to listen all the songs from thic show in time order, that was her 2 performance so i will give you the links to her road in this show(she won it) from 1 to last.....and you will hear some amazing deep voice its like Shakira + Cher with even deeper than both!!!So if you want an army of russians-80% of her fans and another 20% all over the world people, to join your channel (cause this girl not onle an amaxing vocal wonder, but she was in so much negativity, from the moment she was born. and till 4 y.o she suffered practically every day ,was abused, beaten,always hungry, nearly killed by her alcoholic mother, until was found in winter freezin,beaten, with broken arm and signs of put out a cigarettes on her body- so she was taken from her mother, addopted by a woman who worked in facility for orphan kids, woman had her 2 children already, but she jusr fel in love with this young always smiling child- and this adoptive mother,which Diana calls :"She is my only one mother!! Вот уже год,как для меня не существует других певцов,кроме Дианы. Никого. И только сейчас я поняла,что такое хороший преподаватель вокала. Я думаю,Диана просто обязана в будущем учить наших певцов на професиональном уровне.Диане очень много надо успеть. Мало того,что радовать нас своими шедеврами,но и взрастить поколение русских певцов(и актеров тоже),которые будут славить нашу сцены не хуже Бони -М,Смоки,Джексона.

This is folklor and the song has deep meaning. Previously, the river was considered an otherworldly place connecting the living and the dead. And an orphan girl comes to the river to ask for blessings and protection from the river (that is, to the deceased mother), since she is being married to an unloved one. And she suffers from the grief that there is no one to protect or bless her.

Due to the fact that Diana herself is an orphan and she has a very hard fate, this song from her mouth sounds even more tragic.
Loved it! Very mature sounding voice. I wonder if she has been through puberty which will allow her voice become richer and deeper than it is in this video. Her voice sounds almost like she is singing from her throat rather than her mouth. I can't wait to hear more from her.

I was very shocked to see that someone of Diana's age would consider taking on something of such significance from the past, but to her credit, she performed this eleganty. It was beautiful and her voice just hypnotic and haunting. This has to be the one of the best of her performeces ive ever heard and the Russian overtones is mesmorising thoughout. Thank You, Diana...
