    • @tigerbend1964
      @tigerbend1964 7 лет назад +10

      Troll shadowboxing isn't for increasing your punching speed. it is to make your footwork, rythm, combos and all that shit to become second nature so you don't have to think about it when you step in the ring and become more "relaxed". It also is great for finding new ways to fight an opponent as you visualise him or her fighting you. you do this either by imagining an opponent doing what you want him/her to do so you can train on your offensive/deffensive combos in a closer to real situation instead of just throwing combos not caring if it's doable or you imagine fighting your next opponent after watching his/her previous fights so you are "used" to fighting against him/her before actually doing it.

    Often when I see people doing shadowboxing, they usually don't do full movements, straight punches go something like half the distance, uppercuts are just small circular things happening real close to the chest. Why is this? Wouldn't it be better to shadow box with "full range of motion" (for the punch at hand)?

    • @alexmartinez4034
      @alexmartinez4034 8 лет назад +7

      They do this to get fast punches because your punch is traveling half the distance.

    • @somefuckstolemynick
      @somefuckstolemynick 8 лет назад +16

      How does doing half the motion make you faster? I mean, sure, you finish the motion "faster", but that's like saying practicing running half a marathon will make you a faster runner, because you finish earlier then you would have if you'd run a full marathon. :/
      Having given it some more thought, isn't it more likely that speed is not at all what they are working on? But rather timing their hands to their body/feet movement? In that case I can buy it. Because then it's more about connecting the beginning and end of the punch with the rest of the body movement than practicing the actual punch.

    • @alexmartinez4034
      @alexmartinez4034 8 лет назад

      +Fredrik Wahlgren Maybe because they are fast they have an advantage against someone who is slow and strong.

    • @somefuckstolemynick
      @somefuckstolemynick 8 лет назад +3

      Vanessa Montanez of course speed is an advantage! I have not questioned that, what I question is that essentially doing half-reps would make you faster at doing full reps.
