Thanks for watching to this underrated gem! I think you are the only RUclipsr who reacted to it. It's a shame it's not more well known. My dad bought this on VHS in the early 1990s because my mom was such a huge John Candy fan, and it's held a special place in both our hearts ever since. I think one reason is my maternal grandmother, rest her soul, was exactly like Rose Muldoon. 🤣

John Candy, Ally Sheedy, Maureen O'Hara, Anthony Quinn and Jim Belushi were all so great in this movie. I very much enjoyed seeing how John Candy and Ally Sheedy's characters helped each other grow beyond their problems. Which is something every couple needs to help and support each other in their times of need. Interesting fact, when they started filming this movie the studio gave John Candy a bigger trailer than Maureen O'Hara. John asked if she could also get a big trailer as well. The studio said they didn't have enough money in the budget for two big trailers. So John decided to let her have his trailer instead. Cause he felt she was bigger star than himself. Which tells you the unselfish character John Candy had towards people that he respected and didn't even know at all.

Anthony Quinn had a very distinguished acting career. What a terrific cast in this film!

Maureen O'Hara came out of retirement to do this film. It was at the height of John Candy's career and thus the studio gave him the biggest trailer. John made them give it to Maureen and he took a smaller a one.

Nice job Kat! This is one of my favorite John Candy films. It was even better because Maureen O’Hara was in it too. I loved her in “Miracle on 34th Street” (the original) and “The
Parent Trap” (also, the original). But my favorite film is with her and John Wayne, called “The Quite Man”. It’s an older film, so not in your reaction motif, but if you get a chance you should watch it.

Oh my! John Candy, Maureen O’Hera, Anthony Quinn, and Ally Sheedy! What a dream cast. I’ve always loved this film. It’s tragically overlook! As to John Candy, I can’t say enough about what an amazing comedian, actor, and human being he was. When people ask me who are the three people from history you’d like to go to dinner with, John Candy is always first on my list!!!

The theme of the guy that falls in love with the mortician lady that puts cosmetics on the dead, reminds me of the British comedy podcast "Wooden Overcoats". If you liked this movie you might like that series.

Very few if anyone else has done a reaction to this beautiful romantic drama. John Candy is great as usual. And Hollywood legends Anthony Quinn and Maureen O'Hara are great too. There are several relationships at play here, John and mom, John and Ally, mom and Nick. Great movie.

Underrated and (sadly) mostly forgotten classic. Funny, but not ridiculous. This has to be John Candy's second best performance (after Uncle Buck (1989) of course).
That thing about vodka leading to a drinking problem is silly. I drink vodka all the time and I DRINK JUST FINE! I like to mix my vodka with AriZona Green Tea to make my famous "Gator Chaser" drink.
Fun Fact: Chris Columbus wrote the script with Maureen O'Hara in mind for the role of the mother. Once casting had begun, he insisted on having O'Hara play the role, and began a search for her. What he didn't know, was that she had long since retired, and was living on St. Croix in the Virgin Islands. Knowing her brother Charles B. Fitzsimons was still in the movie industry, Columbus contacted him, and had a script sent. O'Hara's brother then sent the script to her, and said, "This you do!"
However Maureen O'Hara refused to sign the movie contract, though she loved the script, until she met co-star John Candy. Fortunately the two of them instantly created a strong rapport, and she hastily signed on the dotted line.
This would be her final film. She permanently retired and live a full life until passing on 2015.
Bonus Fact: The producers of the film did not include a trailer on location for Maureen O'Hara in their budget. John Candy was furious that the producers were showing someone of her stature such disrespect, he gave her his own trailer. The producers finally caved in, because they couldn't have Candy, the star of the film, without his own trailer.

Some great fun facts. I'd only add that in case anyone didn't know who Maureen O'Hara was, they'd probably best know her outside of this movie as the mother in 1947's Miracle on 34th Street.

Thank you so much Kat. I'm glad someone has the guts to watch some great movies that normally wouldn't even be thought of to watch by the RUclips reaction community. This is always going to be one of my favorites because we get to see John Candy in a loving and vulnerable situation which isn't his usual role in movies. Keep it up and I hope the lunatics at RUclips and Studio Heads can ease up on the copyright infringing B.S. and just let us see you react to hidden gems from the 80's and 90's.

Did you catch the cameo by McCauley Culkin?
It was kind of a return the favor for John Candy's cameo in Home Alone, also directed by Chris Columbus.
Then in Home Alone 2, Ally Sheedy (Teresa) had a cameo.
Nick the Greek was played by actor Anthony Quinn who's most famous role was as Alexis Zorba in the 1964 movie Zorba the Greek.
    Is Zorba any good?
    I don't know, I haven't seen that one myself.
I know Quinn was nominated for a best actor Academy Award for it. The director, the other main stars, and the movie itself were also all nominated, and it's on my own "movies I need to see" list.
    Best Regards!

I was so happy to see Anthony Quinn and Maureen O'Hara. In anything. He was never a particular favorite but he had a pretty event-filled life, not always to the good side. Maureen's family is on the London stage, friends with Charles Laughton who puts pretty young Maureen in his HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME film, and she went on from there.

Oh and if you want to continue on your John Candy journey.. "Armed and Dangerous" is fun.. 2 where he is a sidekick (and a great one) Brewster's Millions opposite Richard Pryor and Splash opposite Tom Hanks.

    • @Drawkcabi
      @Drawkcabi 3 года назад +1

Completely agree with those movies. I think Splash is my favorite of them.
I also really like John Candy's performance in Speed Zone, the rest of the movie is a mediocre barely sequel to Cannonball Run I and II, but Candy really put some heart into it.
Kat, you may like all the Cannonball Run movies, they are a lot like Rat Race only a little raunchier. No John Candy in the first two but I'm betting Dom Deluise will tug at your heartstrings, maybe not as much as John Candy, but with the same kind of adorableness.
