    Hopefully it ends up good. I think it was smart not to show gameplay until they feel ready to. That was one of the major criticisms for the reveal of Legends Arceus back in Feb 2021.

    • @johtojonny
      @johtojonny  28 дней назад +3

      I agree 100%. Also they're not allowed to anyways if it's a Switch 2 title but time will tell

      @ClaytonCatlin 27 дней назад

      I disagree. I hated the game, but loved the trailers. If I knew it was as bad as it was, I would've never bought it.
      Hell, I liked Scarlet way more than Legends. I'm sorry, but Arceus was way too hard to beat. I must've tried beating it so many times, but it was way too overpowered.

    • @thesandman2426
      @thesandman2426 27 дней назад

      @ClaytonCatlin I was saying the reveal back in Feb 2021 when they showed gameplay wasn't the best time to show it. The biggest criticism from the reveal was the low framerate after being that close to the pokemon, specifically the Chingling and Chimchar. I also very much enjoyed the trailers and how they presented it with the ink painting intros and such.
      I personally loved the game, but everyone has their own preferences. I'm sorry that you were so disappointed with the game.

    I think the new TCG Phone app is going to take this year’s spot. It honestly looks really damn cool, and as somebody who’s been collecting cards since I was 6, I’d be so down to spend the time between its release and ZA on it alone.

    A lot of people are saying is there is a Nintendo direct coming in August

    • @johtojonny
      @johtojonny  28 дней назад +5

      I've looked into that, and that rumor stems from an "insider" saying a direct is coming "sooner rather than later".
      So there's two steps separating that from reality. 1: we'd have to confirm the insider is actually an insider and 2. Their words never stated an exact time and could simply mean early September or just September in general since it's pretty close already
      It's def possible we get a direct this month but very unlikely based on the words from the "insider" being so vague and also bc we just had a direct in June and September would space that much better than August

    With Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 1 recently rereleased on NSO, it would be fantastic to get an PMD Explorers remake for the holiday season. I seriously doubt Pokemon goes the entire year without a new release, even if it's just a spinoff.

      We are getting Pokémon TCG pocket coming out this year for mobile, if you are thinking anything else is coming out I highly doubt it because why not reveal it on Pokémon day. Also we only have 3 months till Nov that isn’t enough time to give us a new spinoff game not even a port or remaster of rangers, colosseum or conquest which is what I would like to see or a new console only spinoff game. Also everything has moved to mobile games they are taking the spinoff spots because they are easy to make and you get people who spend money on them like crazy so it’s easier and more profitable for Pokémon. I sadly won’t be surprised if detective pikachu returns is the last console only spinoff game but I really hope I’m wrong and kinda of surprised we haven’t gotten a PMD game for mobile yet of at least a Pokémon pinball or puzzle challenge.

    To fill this end of year Pokémon game gap I think it'd be amazing to have past main line games on the Nintendo Switch Online service, Pokémon R/B/Y/G/S/C and make them compatible with Pokémon Stadium games

    • @johtojonny
      @johtojonny  28 дней назад +1

      That would be amazing but for some reason, the vibes from the company tell me they'll never ever do that lol. The red rescue team coming to NSO might be hinting at a PMD2 remake tho!!!

    hmm, I haven't really been commenting much around here with the pokemon news drought, but I do wanna do some idle writing here quickly.
    Well, first off, knocking spin-off games out first: Personally, I think it'd be *really* funny and cool if they did a Pokemon Conquest 2 announcement out of nowhere. I'd definitely *prefer* Explorers DX because peak fiction is peak fiction, but people have been hoping for Conquest to get a second chance for a while, now, I think. Plus, tactics-style gameplay and Pokemon are honestly a match made in heaven. And conquest is the only console/handheld pokemon game I haven't played yet, so it'd be cool on that front, too.
    Now then, onto the meat of what's whirling through my head with regards to Pokemon right now.
    So, Z-A is a Legends game, obviously. But what does that *mean* at this point? Like, with Legends: Arceus, it was very clearly Gamefreak trying to push back against the established Pokemon formula and gameplay traditions, *without* risking things too much by making these changes for the 'new generation' pokemon game, as seen by how much didn't make the jump from LA to ScVi. It *also* seems like a way to revisit old settings in Pokemon without being limited by doing a remake, and with Legends Z-A skipping Unova, it seems they're also breaking from the urge to re-visit each generation in order. Based on this, I could see Legends as a series with one of 3 goals:
    1) Legends is a testing ground for experimental new features they may want to bring into the generational games in the future. If this is the way the series is, I would honestly worry that Legends Z-A could break from the tremendous gameplay experience of Legends Arceus and give us something potentially worse. With the possibility that Lumiose City is the only area, I could see this as a possibility-- the ride pokemon exploration might be nixed for something tighter, and fewer areas with wild pokemon could mean they won't attack you. It's not necessarily a bad outcome for Legends as a series though, and it'd mean excellent things for future generational pokemon games, but I do worry about it.
    2) Legends is a sub-series which features the Pokemon Legends gameplay experience (In regards to the action parts, that is-- it's almost certain that Legends won't suddenly take on the traditional pokemon battles in full, nor will those generational games switch from the iconic system used for competitive to the Legends battle system). This is, in my opinion, the worst outcome of the three. While it would mean that Legends as a series would likely be banger after banger, it would *also* mean that there'd be less carryover to the generational Pokemon games than I would hope, which would be... just completely sad, wouldn't it? Like, if generation 10 comes about and we *still* don't have that perfect "item hotbar, you can throw these items, press x to switch and you can throw out your pokemon with the same controls, and these same controls can be used *in battle* to quickly use items or switch pokemon without opening the menu" thing that PLA had going on, I'll be quite upset.
    3) Legends is the replacement for remakes. Now this, I could really get behind-- If Legends games set in every region started coming out as they're needed, the Legends games increment on the gameplay formula of PLA, and those innovations are then brought into future generational games? It'd be perfect, Legends would remain the series with the more experimental ideas, and the rest of the pokemon games would maybe finally be good again without me needing to justify them to myself.
    Now, no matter what, whether it's the exact same gameplay as PLA or something wildly different, I'm still obviously very excited for Z-A. In fact, if this game is the way I think it is, where Lumiose City is one big, complex version of Jubilife Village, I would probably love the game even if it ran at 10 fps and looked like the worst parts of PLA throughout. The way Jubilife and its people changed as you completed sidequests in PLA was probably my second favorite part of the entire game (My first favorite part being that wild pokemon would try to kill you, using their *actual* moves, obviously), and if they do that at the scale of Lumiose, I might never stop playing.
    But, for my next line of thought, I'm going to assume that out-of-battle mechanics are more or less the same for Z-A. I'm still struggling to wrap my head around how they're going to justify all the action mechanics if the entire game takes place in Lumiose City. Are we going to get mugged by a wild Espurr and have to dodge roll into a back alley, only to be ganged up on by a flock of Murkrow? Or are those circles (that I'm going to assume are being reworked into themed nature plazas with wild pokemon) going to be a lot bigger than they look in the map? Or maybe it *doesn't* actually take place exclusively in Lumiose, and that tweet was just wrong? Look, I'm just *begging* gamefreak to justify having dodgerolling by making pokemon try to kill us again.
    I feel like this next line of thought is interesting as well: Battles. The question remains whether or not battles will work the same as in PLA. I could see it going in a few ways-- it could be that Turn Order only existed to justify Strong/Agile Style, and neither will be returning; it could be that they want to keep turn order, but decided to cut styles as a 'gimmick' of Hisui; or it could be that both turn order *and* styles return, which I would find surprising but not shocking. However they do it, I would expect *this* to be what solidifies what kind of gameplay identity PLA will have, at least to some extent. If they fully commit to the PLA battle system for Legends games, I am made to wonder: Will held items and abilities make their comeback, or if you prefer, their Legends debut in PLZ-A? PLA simplified battles a lot, as much as they possibly could have without it breaking down, even. Which, I should say, was a *good* thing for them to do, as it made PLA so much more seamless and fun. But, if they want to push Legends games further, it would be great to at least see abilities make a comeback. Especially if they can do that *without* sacrificing the speed of PLA's battles.
    Anyways, sorry if this was ramble-y-- 3:00 AM thoughts are... less organized than my fully awake thoughts. Hopefully the game is great and my anxieties are misplaced lol

    Right now gamefreak is busy with gen 10 and legends z-a and I do expect a Pokémon presents this month as we have no information on the Pokemon tcg pocket game and legends z-a. Plus the only pokemon presents we have had was the beginning of this year in February on the 28th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise. We’ve also only had one Pokemon presents so far this year. Plus we have four months left of 2024 and legends z-a is coming out sometime in 2025, and they have to get us a release date sometime soon. I want a new Pokemon mystery dungeon game if we do get a spin off game. Pokemon mystery dungeon dx was fine but it was a remake in March of 2020 and I wanted a new mystery dungeon game in 2020 not necessarily a remake. Obviously gen 10 is most definitely on the next Nintendo console after the switch since we have had two pokemon generations on the switch now and they have never done a third generation on the same console or handheld before, however I could see legends z-a be on both the switch and the next Nintendo console in 2025 whenever that release date is for legends z-a and the next Nintendo console in 2025. As I’m pretty sure the next Nintendo console is coming out next year.

    • @johtojonny
      @johtojonny  28 дней назад +1

      You think a full on Presents is coming this month?! 🤯 is there some info you might have that leads you to believe that or is it purely speculation?

    • @nightwing2032
      @nightwing2032 28 дней назад

      @@johtojonny Well mainly because we’ve had a Pokémon presents in August before and the fact that we have only one pokemon presents earlier this year in February. We usually have at least two pokemon presents. Plus we have next to nothing of information about legends z-a and I doubt the Pokémon Company would wait until February to talk about legends z-a again. We also have never had a Pokémon presents between September-December. We should at least have another Pokemon presents before 2024 ends. Pokemon is also going to be at Gamescom between 21st - 25th August this year.
      So that is another time where the Pokemon company can talk about legends z-a. I guess you call it speculation about all of this but it could happen and it has a chance of happening of when whether or not a Pokémon presents is happening this month in August this year. So there is possible two times that legends z-a could be shown. I also believe that gen 10 could also release at the 30th anniversary in 2026 which would make gen 9 four years long depending on when legends z-a is coming out next year in 2025. Along with gen 5 remakes during gen 10 or gen 11 since with each generation starting from gen 3 of a new console/handheld came with a remake. For gen 3 on the gba it was leaf green and fire red, for the ds with gen 4 it was heart gold and soul silver, for the 3ds in gen 6 it was Oras, and for the switch in gen 8 it was bdsp.

    • @shadowwizard2383
      @shadowwizard2383 27 дней назад

      I really think that mobile games are replacing consoles only spinoff games and we are not going to get another new one it’s why we only have Pokémon pocket coming out and not a console only spinoff game, I really hope I’m wrong and we hopefully have some PLZA news at worlds or the last week of this month unless they are saving it till the Nintendo direct in sept but at least we don’t have long till 2025 only 4 months. Gamescon I really think it’s going to be about Pokémon TCG pocket not PLZA because wouldn’t it be game freak not TPC at gamescon if that was the case?
