As an unofficial part 2 to the review and history video of the Rolex GMT "Pepsi" a few weeks ago, in this episode I look at Tudor's first Black Bay watch with a GMT complication. Is it better than its big brother brand's more luxurious, new incarnation or is it just another exploitation of the already overly expanded Black Bay line? Let's dive in and find out!

I must say I have owned this watch for over 2 weeks now. I just love it ! I have no problem viewing this watch on the wrist. I also find it comfortable on my 7-1/2 wrist. Just melts into my wrist. I Picked this up to mark my beating the odd's. After my injurie all the doctors said I would be in a wheelchair in 10 years. Over 12 years now I do need a Cain to walk with, But I am still walking!!!! So this was a gift to myself for continuing to prove the experts wrong!! I absolutely enjoy having this on my wrist....

My thinking exactly. Originally signed up for the GMT but decieded for the BB58 due to size. If they bring out a 39 GMT I'm all in!

TriforceRich BB58 is too small and the GMT too fat, they need something inbetween, or is that too Rolexy?

@@mikec3454 , has anyone in 2020 purchased a new Tudor GMT with a date wheel issue? I purchased one recently and no issues so far. Naturally my fingers are crossed but I believe that issue is likely in the rear view mirror.
      Cheers.

Honest review with some interesting points made. Yes it’s thicker than a Rolex but so are countless other watches. I find it very comfortable on the bracelet with two links removed, one from each side. I’ve checked my bracelet and you can remove 1link from the 6 o’clock end and 3 from the 12 o’clock end. So someone with smaller wrists can will be able to adjust the bracelet to their size,no problem. I think the watch has great wrist presence,no mistaking it for anything else. Regarding the bezel,I think the choice of aluminium over ceramic is right. It’s in keeping with the watch’s position in the heritage line.

Bought mine a few weeks ago and it's been the only watch on my wrist ever since I found a nice strap for it. I never take it off unless I'm showering, and it just feels amazing. I catch myself looking at the watch a bit too much lol... And this is coming from someone who has owned and currently owns several Rolex Subs, Datejusts and GMTs.

Thank you for your review. You basically saved me from spending $3,900 on the SS bracelet version due to the size issue. This is a wonderful watch with an excellent value proposition, but it is not for everyone. Thank you for spending the time on this review and your candid views.
On the flipside, I went to Japan back in May for vacation and had just started watching your channel a few weeks earlier. Thanks to your reviews, I ended up searching out and ultimately buying two Prospex watches and a SARB033, all non-gray market and at 30% off! Before watching your channel, I had know idea where the value propositions were out there in the marketplace. many thanks!

    I just love my Tudor GMT . I have a small wrist 6 3/4’’ , I find it wears perfectly , comfortable and don’t know it’s there .
Accuracy, just spot on . - + 0 . That’s letting it rest overnight. If left on overnight it runs at - 1 sec per day .
    Better than my Omega 300 M .
    Just love it .

I cannot agree more with you. Excellent watch and as you know I am a big Tudor fan. Definitely too big for my wrist so for sure waiting for a 39mm. What gets me into Tudor more and more is in-house movement. With ETA out of the way now there is room to build up a strong reputation (if there was some necessity to do it of course). Nothing against ETA but when a watch maker transitions from getting a movement (Miyota, Sellita, ETA, and so on) to designing a movement the prestige of the watch maker goes up to the roof. I have nothing against getting a movement (recently I actually pre-order a Naken), but I really love in-house movement. I believe it's the natural consequence for learning much more about watches! Excellent video and reviews. I call this level of review X rays review!

Gutted here in the UK we cannot enter the competition TGV. However, whilst I agree with the video on the Tudor GMT, I find it a real struggle to get a Tudor watch to fit me and feel comfortable. I’m praying the 58 BB os the answer as I would like a Tudor in my collection. Please try and review one when they are available. Also, if your interested in the latest Rolex availability saga PM me and I will give you the details. Keep up the good work. Good luck to all you guys entering the competition

  • @richiechou1605
    @richiechou1605 6 лет назад +1

I think the Steinhart Ocean One Pepsi GMT is a great alternative for people who cant get their hands on a Rolex Pepsi or who dont want to spend thousands on a Tudor GMT as an interim GMT watch. Swiss Made with a decent ETA movement. Also available in a 39mm and isn't as bulky as the Tudor GMT. Sure its probably not the same ultra high standards as the Tudor or Rolex but from what reviewers have said, its pretty damn good and for only $550, ten times less than the Tudor, its a more attainable piece for collectors on a budget. Bad news is that they're all sold out at the moment (their value has held pretty well too) and you will need to go on a waitlist (ha, the irony).

Don't look now Sir, but you're about to hit a quarter million subs! That's bonkers! This comment isn't so much about the video as it is about my transition from casual enthusiast to full-on watch fanatic and how one TGV was pretty much the catalyst. I've always watched the Baselworld reports for keen items but only as a curiosity. This year something clicked when I saw your 2018 BW videos and I've since driven head-long into the horological history research behind some of these marvelous little time machines (double meaning intended) and the historical relevance of their manufacturers. I started my collection with an Oris Carl Brashear because it's a stunner for starters and as a retired Marine it fits within the subcategory (military theme) limit of watches I need to self impose so I don't go too overboard. Then I saw your video on the Marathon and of course the images of that GSAR with ETA and Marine Corps Eagle, Globe and Anchor naturally became an instant must have! Then I saw your custom Undone Watch Co. video... You see where I'm going with this. Anyway, Thanks for all the good gouge you put out and congratulations on all of your success and imminent milestone. You're a class act my man.

Getting the Tudor for a birthday present. I have always loved the Rolex GMT but when they started going upwards of 10K for a stainless dive watch they lost me. The Tudor looks better to my eyes. I like the "classic" look without the crown guards, the coin edge is a must and the colors on the bezel looks dressier. Tudor hit it out of the park.

Thnx for sharing. Enjoyed watching. Tried this exact watch on today. Loved it. Will buy it. To me it didn't feel bulky but rather slim with a modest 41mm, 14,5mm thickness and only 175 grams. Then again, i wear a Deep Sea which is 44mm, 17.7mm thick and weights 220 gram. A beast. So now every other watch feels small.
With that said, the Tudor gmt really felt like a class act. Sophisticated yet rugged. Classy yet workhorse'ish. Shiney yet brushed. Moderm yet vintage. I really think they hit a homerun with this watch.
Came here to see if it was me and i was simply starstruck but after a few reviews i see everybody loves it. I get why...
Once you tried it on it's hard to think of anything else. I'm gonna buy it tomorrow. Thanks again for your review.

I own this watch (7-27-18) and from day one of ownership I tested it for almost a week of constant wearing. First day, ~+1.2 s/day, second day +1s/day separate and discrete from the first day, diminishing through the week without resetting to less than half a second a day fast then settling into +0.346 s/day AVERAGE on the 5th day after 4 consecutive days without resetting. Any rumors saying they are set to lesser standards than Rolex cannot be proven by me. Judy (Bachendorf's Dallas) indicated she thought the standards were the same for the new Tudor MT56xx movements as the Rolex.
Two days before I purchased the watch, I held it in my hand and wound it. I had to check TWICE to be sure the crown position was correct as it felt as if no winding was taking place. The movement of the previously dead second hand proved I was doing SOMETHING like winding, but you REALLY have to trust that the watch is being wound. Previously, only my Ball (2893-2) (purchased at Timeless Luxury, Frisco) felt anywhere close to this smooth. This watch sets a benchmark that cannot be surpassed as you cannot surpass the feel of NOTHING.
Bicycle chain link ends on the steel is a bit silly. So since everyone is waiting for steel, Judy guided me gently to the leather. The BB GMT is perfect size for my 7 inch wrist. I'm playing with leather straps...1 Shinola, 1 Filson, 2 Hirsch, 1 Strapcode. Great fun as the 2 Hirsch bands were discontinued curved end stock. All are comfortable, but $65 for each of these handsome Hirsches is inexpensive! I'm saving the original leather red dirt brown deployant...I'm hard on bands. By the way, many Tudor GMT sellers are tacking on $500-1500 premium depending in leather or bracelet.
No glued on wart of a lens. Understated colors, layout, fonts, etc. All these qualities make the new Rolex GMT look garish and flashy to me. The Rolex GMT price is ridiculous. Wilsdorf will sell many times more Tudors. I can forgive the 14.5mm height as it has GMT "excuse". The Black Bay ETA is 12.6mm (YOUR red one) The Black Bay 5602s (red, black, blue) are now 14.8mm...(I want the ETA back...in RED) I went to Bachendorf's and measured them all. (Ask them! It was an adventure in itself!)
The watch you want is already out...you don't have to wait another year. The BB 58 (39 and thin) is the one which will fit you PERFECTLY. Waiting to see it in the metal. I've got my notice in with Judy.

In numismatics the “coin’s edge” with that feature is called a “reeded edge” and I don’t know why that term couldn’t apply to the bezel of a watch.

I wonder why they made this so big?
I agree with you about the expanding bracelet.
How does it compare in size with the black bay chronograph?
One thing I like about all the black bays, like this gmt and the chrono is that they have that 200m water resistance.
I think the Rolex equivalent tend to be less resistant to water.

😃love the old school Batman (moments later fill)👍🏽
Great watch and I completely agree the proportions are off - should have been based on the BB58 model
Funny but I feel that is one of the main issues with GrandSeiko - the size doesn’t lend well with the luxury category- one reason I think the Subby gets such high regard is because it’s such a refined piece, the movement, it’s proportions, which lend to its versatility.
    Another great review👍🏽🍻

That is very generous of Timeless to do that. I'll definitely enter and hope to win this beautiful watch. Happen to be wearing my Black Bay Red as I watched this. Mine's the earlier ETA version - definitely thinner than this GMT (and the regular inhouse version) by a good mill or 2. I wish Tudor had stuck with the Rose on the dial. Totally understand your comments about Tudor being more "toolish" and affordable than Rolex. Rather like what Rolex used to be. Ciao, John

Tudor hit it out of the park with this watch. Its a stunning time piece and sits well on the wrist. It must have a few things to give it a Tudor look and not so much a Rolex GMT look,. If Tudor comes out with a 38 mm version it will be spectacular but would lean more to a ladies version unless you are a very petite guy.

  • @johnnyguitar6697
    @johnnyguitar6697 6 лет назад

I must agree with you: 41mm diameter + 15mm height is completely unnecessary on a GMT watch, even one with a 200m depth rating. At a bare minimum, one needs a 7.5 / 8 inches to wear this comfortably. It does nothing on my 7 inches wrist. I much prefer the Black Bay 58, which has absolutely classic proportions. The other great alternative for slender wrists is the Black Bay 36, especially with the blue face. It has more pop visually than the black version, and the color helps differentiate it from a Rolex Explorer 14270.

The Tudor Black Bay GMT is a marvelous combination of two Rolex watches I associate with James Bond, and the film “Goldfinger” in particular: the Rolex Submariner (Ref. 6538), and the Rolex GMT Master (Ref. 6542). The Black Bay GMT shares its large, guardless crown, coin edging on both crown and bezel, and basic dial design with the Submariner. In fact, the indices are virtually identical.
Similarities between the modern Tudor and the classic GMT Master are even more striking: the two-tone, 24 hour bezel. The date window (minus cyclops, that is). The way in which the red GMT hand extends past even the seconds hand, allowing the date to be readable at all times.
(The Tudor “Pepsifinger”, natch? OK, so the name needs work.)
Even more so, in my opinion, is the sheer quality for money this watch offers. This is the watch our grandfathers, seeking a tough, precision instrument, might have purchased in the early 1960s. They would've worn it at the office. And while mowing the lawn. And at the beach. And while shoveling snow, or clearing gutters, or during any and all manner of tasks … even, say, blowing up an illicit Latin American drug lab, or attempting to break into Fort Knox. The only difference being that their watch was labeled “Rolex”, while the modern equivalent wears “Tudor” branding.
One can see what I'm driving at. The Tudor Black Bay GMT is a throwback in the most wonderful sense, made all the more relevant as the Rolex brand itself becomes increasingly out of reach, ever further from being equally at home paired with a drysuit or a tuxedo. My fervent hope is that those lucky persons who end up owning a Black Bay GMT wear it hard and often -- though perhaps not on a 16mm NATO strap, as 007 appeared to have done -- making it as difficult to find in pristine condition 50+ years hence as its forebears (the aforementioned Rolex Ref. 6538 and Ref. 6542) are today.

That's obviously somewhat unusual. That watch personally, I hope you're right... I hope they come out with a thinner version in the future. My Bronze is probably one of the thickest watches I own. Please ... no hate messages for my posting a year later. Due to back orders of the watch it was a necessity. So, after a much delayed period to obtain my Tudor Black Bay GMT with the Stainless Steel Bracelet from an authorized Tudor dealer, I have been wearing it for a month now. I paid list price of $3,950.00 US for it. As a side note, I have seen unscrupulous used watch dealers having been seen selling used Tudor BB GMT's for a significant premium ($4,950.00 to $5,950.00 and completely absurd). Anyway, the Tudor BB GMT is everything one could want in a watch (I do have a 9"wrist). It is perfect as far as accuracy, the 70 hr. reserve is very nice, it has a hefty feel (you get used to the height of the watch rather quickly). It wears in just about every situation and it has a great resale value. If you have a $4,000.00 price limit and can afford only 1 watch, then skip the 7750/7753 based chrono's (which you are unlikely to ever use) and get the Tudor BB GMT.
