Very true! Just ask Mokie Martin! However while visiting the Rolex AD in Carmel, Ca., a year ago. I saw a Blue dial with blue bezel Rolex Submariner from 1962 made for the US Navy, for sale for $110,000, (with original box , booklet and certificates). A few weeks later, when I visited the store again, I noticed it had been sold. When I inquired as to who would have purchased it , I was told it was purchased be a member of the Brazilian Navy who had just completed a course at the US Navy post Graduate School in Monterey. He bought it as a graduation present to himself. His classmate bought a mint 1968 Rolex Submariner prototype ( non Comex) with a helium escape valve, for $130,000. I guess the Brazilian Navy pays well! Lol

The lugs on the Sub are too wide for the bracelet. The crown guards ruin the classic lines and script on the dial is sub-par. For what they are charging it should be a much better watch. Sadly- it is not. Even the box that Rolex gives you is an offensive green color and very cheaply made. The Tudor on the other hand has a superior dial, clean crown with no lugs, it even has a smoother winding action than the Sub. The gilt dial with the racetrack markers set it apart from everybody else. It also comes in a beautiful piano black box that looks premium. The clear winner is the Tudor. Oh...and it's even made by Rolex.
The Sub is simply not worth the paper that Rolex is charging. If it were gold then maybe, but for a steel watch with a mediocre dial and horrible box...it's just not worth it. There are much better watches out there for half the price.
Your comparisons between Rolex and Tudor have been extremely well thought out and are far beyond surface-level. Unlike most reviewers or bloggers covering this complex topic, you’re hitting on not only the specs but also the emotional connections we have for these brands.

Best watch video I've ever seen. One thing a Rolex buyer should consider: They produce 100-tausends od watches every year and therefore one could almost call it a mass-market product, worn by many people who have no knowledge of watches, they simply want a Rolex on the wrist, many them just to show off... deside for yourself if you want to be one of them...

I love the vintage style of the Tudor and stylistically like it over the more modern and aggressive looking submariner. It is more playful and easygoing and in more than one way it is a relief not to wear a Rolex.
This is the perfect articulation of how I chose the BBB over no-date Sub while trying both on. The Sub has more refinement but the BBB has more character and charm. I didn't buy on price - we just got along better. I was also considering the Sea-Dweller 116600, and at that point the price differential did come into play. The 116600 is perfection, in my opinion, but for a similar experience, you just can't beat the quality and approachability of the BBB. It's such a beautiful thing and there's absolutely no pretense about it. It doesn't pretend to be anything other than itself. It's the cousin of Sub, not its son. The Sea-Dweller, lest we forget, is daddy. (Although I think Rolex has gone off the rails with the latest Sea-Dweller, but that's another matter entirely.)
please do one on the rolex datejust! i absolutely love your videos and just purchased a 116200 with a batons, a black dial, and jubilee. id love to hear your take on the datejust
Thanks for an awesome review of these two icons. If i'am honest, the design of the Tudor wins my heart. It could be that the submariner design has been copied so frequently, that it looses a little of it's attraction for me. The quality is obvious, for both watches.
William Stalvey check the imperfections at 5:25 . Rolex quality isn’t what it used to be. Tudor is like the Rolex of old. Also helps that it’s made in the same factory
@@siddharthsharma8940 You know watchfinder are the ones doing that to the watches, right? They're notorious for that when they open them for their service, which they do to all watches they sell
I own both the Sub & The Tudor BB Bronze but find the tudor the watch i feel most drawn to. It's a relaxed timepiece that makes me feel at ease in a way the Rollie just doesn't. I can roll up my sleeve with the tudor without feeling like i'm trying to show off my watch. Both are great but the Tudor offers just so much more individuality at a cost that makes you question "The King"
Yes a comment says tudor is poor man watch. POS like this guy make me mad because first they denigrate not well off people and second disrespect watches and third i have so many watches medium tier and i buy them used but i spent shitload of money on them because thats my choice but i never denigrate people choice
Unless it’s a gold sub, I have no issue. Considering this a “flashy” watch is like saying a speedmaster has the same bling factor as a Patek. I wear my watches and don’t worry about other peoples opinion, at the end of the day it’s the collectors money being spent, no need to worry about other peoples opinion
My new fave watch channel. Very nicely paced quality content. Yes it’s from a shop but then so many other watch channels are now flogging pieces that it makes no difference. The lack of opining and flexing is refreshing and the macro shots in these videos...and this one in particular, are absolutely superb. Thank you.
This is just such a good video. It’s not just beautifully shot, superbly soundtracked, perfectly edited and delivered with effortless brilliance (although it is all of those things). It is just about as well written as a watch video can be. Love it.
Carlos De La Cadiz I just bought the Tudor in red(burgundy) and I absolutely love it. Whenever I’m driving with my left hand I’m constantly looking at it. My next watch will be the Rolex Kermit or Coke. However I’m more than happy with my Tudor for now.
Great video! I am a proud Rolex Submariner owner since 2000. It is one of the most classic watches of all time. But for those who can't afford the Rolex Submariner the Tudor one reviewed is a great choice with almost identical quality. Either way, these are life time pieces.
Hi @watchfinder, I love the tudor black bay 58 so much. But I also love the omega seamaster 300 (the one similar to spectre, not the 300m diver). Would you kindly make a comparison of these two vintage inspired divers? Would be great to hear your thoughts =)
Wow! That was a beautifully put together comparison of the two divers. I do favour the Black Bay because the design just works for me. Unfortunately, it is the Submariner that I love and I do appreciate the "engineering" that made a Rolex a Rolex, but, because of the price point it is simply not attainable for me!
Always loved the sub. As a kid it was my favorite watch. When I became aware of Tudor I loved their fun and fresh designs. However when I popped in a dealer a few months back when going between both of these I had to pick the sub. Love the bb and pelagos but the sub was my first love. Great video. Definitely reminds me of how I felt when making my decision to buy the sub. 👍
Good thing there is a submariner available at the AD. I have been going back and forth in several ADs, to no avail. Recently, I saw both the Submariner no date and date versions, but only for display. I offered to buy both the Two-tone yellow gold 41mm Datejust with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet AND the Submariner no date...they refused.
Very nice video - I am currently torn because my AD has offered my a black bay 58 in either color or a Black Bay GMT. They did say I can wait a full 6 months or more for a sub but I feel that they likely wouldn't sell me one until I purchase a different watch from them first. Would it be overly duplicative to go with the blue BB58 and then have a black sub down the line? The BBGMT would provide a nice variety but with a 6.3 inch wrist and the rumors that next year will bring a BB58GMT, part of me thinks it would be foolish buy. I have been wracking my brain for well over a month - any advice or opinions are helpful!
I think the Black Bay is so beautiful. Yes the thickness was a conscience decision a lot borrowed from the classic Seiko 6159 only the Tudor has gone one level higher in build quality than all the divers in that price point. The Tudor is a classic dive watch that will grow in popularity with time. I prefer the 41 over the 58 for that reason . Given the 41 pays more homage to the classic 50’s dive watches than the 58 trying to compete with the Submariner.
It's true.i bought the Pepsi GMT in 2007.and that is all people said is it real I got fed up with it .had it a year and sold it which now I regret.i wasn't a watch nut back then but I've got a interest now in watches now after seeing the Tudor black bay bronze which I bought 5 months ago . And at the end of the year will get a Rolex sub or explore 1 or 2 .and every 12 months I'm getting a nice watch to get a nice collection not for investment but to give to my kids and grandkids .but they won't get them till I'm dead I'm 51 so should have a good collection.im just saying I love that 😀
The first Watchfinder video, I have viewed, it’s a very classy narrative, great lighting, informative and I love the way you talk a wee bit with your hands. TGV has competition!
Excellent video as usual! I personally think that the marketing now at Tudor is to pitch them as a vintage Rolex. Makes perfect sense to me. Who better to offer this than the sister company of Rolex.
Honestly, I really like most Tudor watches. But still I feel like it's compensating for not being able to afford a Rolex. Yes, it is stupid, but that's what really holds me back when it comes to Tudor.
I absolutely love both watches. I am not a loud or 'look at me' kind of person though. I feel the sub is too iconic and draws alot of wanted and unwanted attention attention. I think i'll get a BB in the near future. The only thing is my heart want's the S&G version but yet again that will draw a lot of attention!

Should be soon hopefully.
would be amazing. waiting with baited breath
Thanks for an awesome review of these two icons. If i'am honest, the design of the Tudor wins my heart. It could be that the submariner design has been copied so frequently, that it looses a little of it's attraction for me. The quality is obvious, for both watches.
I prefer Tudor, it just looks so much better. But Rolex it's king of bracelets and clasps
I've owned both and actually prefer my Tudor Heritage BBB. Great review - thank you!
Hey, why or what made you like The tudor black bay over the Rolex sub
William Stalvey check the imperfections at 5:25 .
Rolex quality isn’t what it used to be. Tudor is like the Rolex of old.
Also helps that it’s made in the same factory
@@siddharthsharma8940 You know watchfinder are the ones doing that to the watches, right? They're notorious for that when they open them for their service, which they do to all watches they sell
Very creative use of the word, "agricultural!"
Superlative well done video. The Rolex should be the Tudor and the Tudor should say Rolex.
@@joshs3916 You'd also be surprised at how many people genuinely have no idea what your watch is or how much it's worth.

Unexpected Lamborghini comparison but it is so true!
saultyboi except that both are Lamborghinis.
My new fave watch channel. Very nicely paced quality content. Yes it’s from a shop but then so many other watch channels are now flogging pieces that it makes no difference. The lack of opining and flexing is refreshing and the macro shots in these videos...and this one in particular, are absolutely superb. Thank you.
One of the best reviews I have seen in a long time. Really well done!
This is just such a good video. It’s not just beautifully shot, superbly soundtracked, perfectly edited and delivered with effortless brilliance (although it is all of those things). It is just about as well written as a watch video can be. Love it.
dont forget the awesome watch us chumps can afford
i like how he had the second hand on the watches opposite to show how they are similar
Love the Tudor! Love the vintage dial.
Great video as always!
I know the Rolex has better movement and better finishing but the Tudor just looks cooler. I'd prefer Tudor. Great watches and video.
Carlos De La Cadiz I just bought the Tudor in red(burgundy) and I absolutely love it. Whenever I’m driving with my left hand I’m constantly looking at it. My next watch will be the Rolex Kermit or Coke. However I’m more than happy with my Tudor for now.
Shannon Wilson Please drive safely
Love the look of the Black bay but sadly too slab sided and thick for me.
Its really not bad on the wrist in most cases. I've got small wrists (about 16.75") and it fit well.
i like the Tudor better
Brought a black bay today and love it. Also love the look of the Rolex
Since when did Alan Davies start doing watch video voice overs?
If a person owns a Rolex adding a Tudor to the collection is a must. Tudor is magnificent.
at 5:25. Whats with the "Oyster Perpetual"Font ? I thought Rolex releases only perfect watches.
DAmerica they don’t always, an air king was sold before with a 9 at the 3 mark by mistake
probably a fake.
Great video! I am a proud Rolex Submariner owner since 2000. It is one of the most classic watches of all time. But for those who can't afford the Rolex Submariner the Tudor one reviewed is a great choice with almost identical quality. Either way, these are life time pieces.
For those who can't afford it?..... You are lacking class and gravitas!
131 dislikes? That's a lot of Omega Seamaster owners.
Ahahahahah, sono d'accordo!!
I don’t get this comment, what’s wrong with a Seamaster?
@@paulcribbin3036 Ma nulla, è solo uno scherzo!! it's just a joke!!
Stronzo
The new seamaster with the metas movement are still better than Tudor tho
The lighting in your videos is just fantastic. Best lighting ive seen on any review videos ever. Your content is a gift to us all. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching.
@@rj-yr4ql don't waste your time with these ADs, one day these watches will be available again, just have to be patient.
Correction: the Black Bay’s hands and markers ARE gold. Rose gold.
The bb looks better thant the sub
$5,500 in this video only 5 years ago... now it retails almost double
With a Rolex,..sadly people will always wonder if its a fake...just sayin'.
And at the end of the year will get a Rolex sub or explore 1 or 2 .and every 12 months I'm getting a nice watch to get a nice collection not for investment but to give to my kids and grandkids .but they won't get them till I'm dead I'm 51 so should have a good collection.im just saying I love that 😀
As long as the owner knows it is real thats all that counts......buy it for yourself not someone else
@@fearthebeard.outdoors1189 grandfather! I hope you’re still alive and well!! 🤣 don’t for get me when you give out your watches LOL!
I have recently bought a BB58 and absolutely love it. What a value! Truly!
I like them both
I‘m so shallow. I want the Rolex even if I prefer the Tudor‘s looks 😂
Absolutely superb videography as always by the way.
you sound like Alan Davies mate
This is a fact I am becoming increasingly more aware of!
ha great video by the way some great shots and information.
I thought more like Holly from Red Dwarf!
Slightly posher!
If i had to choose between the 2 id certainly without doubt take the rolex
Then sell it and buy the tudor
I own both the Rolex submariner and the Tudor black bay black rose logo. Man l love the Tudor more....
Great video as always,I enjoyed seeing the small details and refinements pointed out
I absolutely love both watches. I am not a loud or 'look at me' kind of person though. I feel the sub is too iconic and draws alot of wanted and unwanted attention attention. I think i'll get a BB in the near future. The only thing is my heart want's the S&G version but yet again that will draw a lot of attention!
My dady bought one NKUWAN and he loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when he went out with it.
My wife gave me a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date on my 40th birthday, some fifteen years ago. I have always found this to be a perfect watch for me, understated while rich in content. Could you review a new perpetual Rolex? Love your channel.
I am planning to buy my first luxury watch and I am thinking of the omega seamaster 300, tudor bb 58 or the rolex datejust, which do you recommend? Thank you.

Amazing review 👏🏻
What type of video recorder are you using? Your video is awesome quality!
I cant take my eyes of the Tudor
I own both and love both but the Tudor seems to be on my wrist a lot more.
beautiful narration. My god.
Very kind, thank you!
Which would you suggest as a daily driver ? Sub or Datejust 36 ?
Thanks for another video !! Perfect as always!! Can you do a Grand Seiko review?
thanks brother i you to review the rolex dayjust 41 smoth bazll if you don't mind . thanks
