I've seen this guy play in a lot of videos and I've never seen him play better than he does on this kit. Certain kits really inspire us to play our best. I really believe that. He must really like this kit cause he is kicking a$$!!!
Good luck with that DW/Slingerland thing. I'm still scratching my head as to how they're going to fit "Slingerland" into their line-up. I don't see them having it as a more expensive line than the Collector series. Will they re-brand the "Classic" or "Jazz" series? 'Course the "Jazz" series seems more in replicating the Gretsch "Round Badge" than anything else. Will they do away with the Performer series in order to have a "Slingerland" brand that's competitively priced with say.... the Classic Maple Ludwigs? Will they rebrand one of their import PDPs? Where will DW place the "new" Slingerland line as far as their recently acquired Gretsch product line? Will I still be waiting on a reply for a simple replacement part for a pedal three years after the inquiry? Is it really in the interest of American drummers to have the USA-manufactured market domination that DW seems to be bent on?
I love this kit! I've owned three hinterlands in the early 70s and they are my favorite sounding kits! I played most other major brands including Rogers, Ludwig, DW and I want another vintage Sling!!! This is the sesame finish as my current DW. Me want!!! Lol.
Slingerland was the first drum set I ever played when I was in grammar school ! I will always love Slingerland drums ! DW was supposed bring back Slingerland Drums ! What are the waiting for ??? Another broken promise !
Slingerlands of this era talk back to you, whispering what comes next. I have the '63 Modern Jazz, though with big 16x16 floor tom. It used to fill the high school stage auditorium un miced. I'm using Evans Calftone all around, maybe not as loud, but fine tones all around.
The company management were brain dead. Too slow to introduce "magnum" hardware, and the hardware was overkill. The company was floundering so badly that Neil Peart had to bail to Tama. He called the company (early 80's) "headless"
Slingerland was never owned or run by "drummers" as the Slingerlands were business folks, not musicians. So the story goes, Buddy Rich wound up with Slingerlands initially as his Dad was looking for an new kit for "Traps the Wonder Boy" and he first went to Ludwig & Ludwig, but there was no one onsite that could make an endorsement decision. So he and the young Buddy went over to Slingerland and there was no such hesitancy...they signed him up! 'Course Buddy wound up endorsing Ludwig, Slingerland, Rogers Fibes and even Trixon at various points in his career. I had Slinger/Leedys back in 1968-72 (initially 20/12/14 and then 20/12/13/14) and really wasn't all that impressed except with the "Shelly Manne" COB snare (same shell as Slingerland sound King). The "Set-o-Matic rack tom holder was crap. You should read the Slingerland book by Rob Cook.
Here is the story. Plain and Simple Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich made these drums talk with their innovative mind boggling ideas and phrasings. I am also so happy that Gene and Buddy did not resort to the mechanical ROBOT Rock patterns. They had the chops and man they played new innovative patterns every night. Miss you Gene Krupa Miss you Buddy Rich big big time.
I owned a chrome over wood Slingerland Avante kit in the early 70s. It had three mounted Toms in a triangle pattern. One of the best sounding kits that I ever owned. They sounded like this kit. I now play a Gretsch BroadKaster kit. I hope DW doesn't make them sound like DW. 😎
It's not a "standard" or catalogued Slingerland size and neither is the 16x13...especially in 1963. Most Slingerland kits presented in their catalogues also had 20x14 bass drums. And NO Slingerland rack tom eve sounded that good with the abomination Set-o-Matic tom mount. My first drum kit was 1968 Slinger/Leedys with the 1st gen Set-o-Matic. A resonance-killer if there ever was one! www.vintagedrumguide.com/slingerland_drumsets_1963.html
I wonder how they would sell today, if they were still made ( in USA ) with today's better fittings and hardware. The best thing that could happen, is if Gibson sold Slingerland , to a genuine top drum company.
yes sounds guauuuuuuuu, the 13 blow me away, dont seems from second hand, still slingerland manifactured......., they made the shells or are keller, sound incredibleeeeee
i love the recording of this kit, i cant see any microophone stands so it must be micd from a distance? sounds very natural. feel free to share the recording gear used... thanks
In our videos we use two overhead microphones - Sennheiser e914 and two room microphones AKG C214. We use this combination for each video you can see on our RUclips channel.
Slingerlands were and still are great drums. I love playing my late 60s model and I also have a vintage 60s Ludwig and 70s Premier. The main problem with Slingerland, were their tom fittings . Nowhere as solid as today's hardware, but sound great.
.NICE souending set but I like the sound of the 64 Ludwig better. Just personal taste. I have a 68 Ludwig and it's my best sounding.set out of the.three I have.
I had Slinger/Leedys and don't miss them a bit, but I did love the COB Shelly Manne snare's sound. I currently have a "Frankenstein" Slingerland COB Sound King (with a COB batter rim) that sounds very similar and is one of my "go-to" snares.
Better off buying vintage SLINGERLANDS. We won’t be seeing the new DW ones anytime soon. Price and sound will be under the microscope.. At least with vintage, you get that great Slingerland sound, at an affordable price..
Pretty & classy drum set. I'd love to have a Slingerland vintage set.
set.
I've seen this guy play in a lot of videos and I've never seen him play better than he does on this kit. Certain kits really inspire us to play our best. I really believe that. He must really like this kit cause he is kicking a$$!!!
Yeah! He's on fire :D
Hell fucking yeah! I definitely heard some Bonham in there, and he kinda has to with that big ol' 24 in Bass!!
Great to see Slingerland coming back.
Everyone will be watching to see what DW does with them, very carefully.
Such an great American iconic brand.
Good luck with that DW/Slingerland thing. I'm still scratching my head as to how they're going to fit "Slingerland" into their line-up. 😱
not kidding, this guy is my all time favorite drummer. SOOOO TASTEFUL even when busy
Greatest sounding drums.......EVER!!!!!!
Love the classic sound. Great playing!
With good drumming, you can just listen to it all day ...
I love this kit! I've owned three hinterlands in the early 70s and they are my favorite sounding kits! I played most other major brands including Rogers, Ludwig, DW and I want another vintage Sling!!! This is the sesame finish as my current DW. Me want!!! Lol.
Such a beautiful looking and awesome sounding kit!!
Incredible sound, just perfection, and that snare....wow, beats any modern kit
Oh, yeeeah!!! Great drums, great cymbals, great playing!!! Enjoy every second!
Great video - thank you!
I have a slingerland 5 piece marine white pearl, mine have concert toms though.. love the sound I get from them.. love those soultone cymbals
Great drums sounds!...
Where are the mics? I don't know how you're getting such a clean sound with them so far away.
Beautiful. I have almost the exact same kit which I fully restored.
Slingerland was the first drum set I ever played when I was in grammar school ! I will always love Slingerland drums ! DW was supposed bring back Slingerland Drums ! What are the waiting for ??? Another broken promise !

GREAT JOB!
Unusual floor tom sizes. What snare would this have been.
Someone has finished up with a lovely kit. Very lucky buyer.
Dude! That tone. So deep
Beautiful drumset, I got a trixon from 1963
Killer set!
amazing sound!..
Great to see them going to be produced again in the future, by DW.
I hope they can match this vintage sound.
Sounds great !
cool drums I love have you play 😃👍
Ok this is Amazing sound of the drums
oh my god, the snare sound !!!
Great snare, in particular.
12x15 is not a traditional tom size, but a marching snare size. Looks like it was "repurposed" as a floor tom. It sounds great.
That snare though....
Two of the all time greats, Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa, loved Slingerlands.
Stopping production, was one of the worse things in drumming history.
The company management were brain dead. Too slow to introduce "magnum" hardware, and the hardware was overkill. The company was floundering so badly that Neil Peart had to bail to Tama. He called the company (early 80's) "headless"

Now its owned by dw, many many original slingerland artists now play dw, so fingers crossed that a brand revival is on the horizon.

Eh WOW ! So incrontrol with the speed and musical.

Love Slingelands sound, old school. I have an early 70s 18×16 floor tom that sounds even better than my Ludwigs.
I used to have one so sorry I sold it many years ago the kids sounds great and a guy playing it makes it sound even better
A great player on Slingerlands.
It just doesn’t get any better.
Floor toms strange sizes !
Snare is killer 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
Incredible how much tone and sustain that 13 has despite being held on a snare stand!!
Paweł Morrison What sustain?
Better on a snare stand that on the later Set-O-Matic mount!
More groove in five minutes than… well, a certain genre has combined on RUclips.
Very interesting sizes. I've never seen a 15x12! They sound warm.
It's not a "standard" or catalogued Slingerland size and neither is the 16x13...especially in 1963. Most Slingerland kits presented in their catalogues also had 20x14 bass drums. I've got the XM9 kit ,bought it new 83. The most amazing sounding drums.
AMO ESE SONIDO! POR DIOOOSS!!!!
That dude's a great drummer!
Sounds really close to the drum kit that was used on Superstitious Stevie Wonder.
Of today’s modern drums, what would come the closest in sound , to Slingerland.
These sound fabulous.
probably Ludwig Maple
Dan Webd
Their old rival , for several decades...
My 63 slingerlands don't have badges/ventholes on the toms.
Those are non-standard floor tom sizes for 1963 too.
If you really want to hear these drums sing, tune them a lot higher. They really shine with high tuning.
Is that snare the Slingerland Artist Model.
I have one with my Slingerlands and they sound great .
Wow. They don’t make ‘em like this anymore.
He always tunes low, tune mid and then high, to really bring out their true tone
so you are saying if he would tune otherwise it'd be a fake tone?
The small floor looks like it is not a size from that year ?
Perhaps a "power tom" from the late 70's.
Nice playing, tuning & production !
Slingys !
It also could be a converted marching drum
Didn't know Slingerland made such shallow floor toms in the 60's. Are those sizes stock original? Great playing as usual Patrik!
I was wondering the same thing. If these were actually made in 1963 they must have been custom sizes for the floor toms.
Stamp Jockey the 15x12 is modified rack tom.
I was thinking this was a country road setup )13,14,15,16 toms 18 floortom and 24 kick.) Reconfigured into a big band setup.
I just saw the dude from 5 Fingered Death Punk is selling his kit for 25k minus the throne! All you need is this beauty! And probably cheaper!
UNLIMITED DRUMMER ! AWESOME DUDE !!
Sounds slammin'
Uhhhhhhhh...great surprise....the sound is a thunder....
Does Slingerland make a "mini" kit or what would be equivalent to it? I'm thinking of getting the Tama Jam Kit. Thoughts anyone? Thanks! 🥁
Dang, those Bonham's triplets...
I wonder how they would sell today, if they were still made ( in USA ) with today's better fittings and hardware.
The best thing that could happen, is if Gibson sold Slingerland , to a genuine top drum company.
Can I have my kit back , please?! Wonderful demo , thanks .
I think they sound dead. The skills aren’t lacking and they are beautiful. They need a bit of overtone.
Just what I was thinking. In fact they sound muffled? The Slingerland sets Rich used to solo on were much more wide open.
Floor toms look like coverted concert toms. Bass legs not orig. '63 would be 3 ply, with chrome over brass rims. No vents on toms. Beautiful!
yes sounds guauuuuuuuu, the 13 blow me away, dont seems from second hand, still slingerland manifactured......., they made the shells or are keller, sound incredibleeeeee
Bill ward played these kits you can hear the sound of sabbath in them 🤘😎🤘.
Agreed, Bill played Slingerland drums for many years with Sabbath.
what a big sound!!! it doesn't look like dude his hitting then very hard and still a great big fat sound... how does that happen? (great vid!!!!)
❤️🥁❤️
Why they mount the tom and snare in the middle of the hoop?
The toms have almost a Gretsch sound.
Why has every drum manufacturer stopped making the 15 inch size floor tom?
14” and 18” sizes are better I guess.
i love the recording of this kit, i cant see any microophone stands so it must be micd from a distance? sounds very natural. feel free to share the recording gear used... thanks
In our videos we use two overhead microphones - Sennheiser e914 and two room microphones AKG C214.
We use this combination for each video you can see on our RUclips channel.
2.45 is that single stroke or double stroke roll or paradiddle
Is that an Artist Model Slingerland Snare. Great sound.
I clearly see a 70's style badge on the 13 inch...
Where did you re-finish them ? Lots of replacement hardware.
Some people say you can't play rock on Slingerlands. I don't see why not?
Xcorgi Neil Peart did it in the 70's and he sounded amazing doing it.
Austin Grasty So did Bill ward of Black Sabbath.
John Bonham recorded Led Zeppelin 1 on Slingerlands with a Supra 400.
Xcorgi I play rock on my 60s slingerlands. There is no other way in fact
Slingerlands were and still are great drums.
I love playing my late 60s model and I also have a vintage 60s Ludwig and 70s Premier.
The main problem with Slingerland, were their tom fittings .
Nowhere as solid as today's hardware, but sound great.
cool
does anyone know which model this was?
Any recommended songs with drums like this? Sounds a bit like superstition
If these are 63 slingys shouldn't the bd have torpedo style bd tuning rods.
Yes, both the hoops and BD T-rods are not stock issue Slingerland.
BD legs are not original either.
What kind of Remo heads are those my friend???
.NICE souending set but I like the sound of the 64 Ludwig better. Just personal taste. I have a 68 Ludwig and it's my best sounding.set out of the.three I have.
wonder how this would sound like with real skins, calf, goat or kangaroo :))))
BUDDY RICH KIT
NO COMMENT 🏝🏝🏖🏖🏆🏆🏆🏆🏖🏖🏝🏝🏖🏖🏝🏝💃💃💃💃🌺🌺
Gretsch are the Best sounding drums in the world
How do you tune your snare drum?
A little Stevie Wonder. Nice
I 💛💛💛💛 SLINGY 🏆🏆🏆🏆💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘
this is my workshop: www.dc-customdrums.cz/kat-5292.html
Do not make my mistake ... do not sell your set of Slingerland like I did.
I had Slinger/Leedys and don't miss them a bit, but I did love the COB Shelly Manne snare's sound. I currently have a "Frankenstein" Slingerland COB Sound King (with a COB batter rim) that sounds very similar and is one of my "go-to" snares.
Great playing of course, however, his playing and tuning is in a modern style. Is that legal on a great vintage kit like this?
Now find some Noble and Cooleys
Better off buying vintage SLINGERLANDS.
We won’t be seeing the new DW ones anytime soon.
Price and sound will be under the microscope..
At least with vintage, you get that great Slingerland sound, at an affordable price..
💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘
!!!;!!!!!
Those cymbals ruin that kit.
Pablo González Gallardo I’ve never heard those cymbals in real life, but I agree. They’ve never sounded good to me on video.
how much are you asking for this set?
This set cost 2.590,-Eur, but unfortunately is already sold.....
Great set, awesome drumming, awful choice of cymbals. Real old school Zildjian would be better than Soultone pretending to be old school.
