After 40 years Sonor is still winning these top 10 things. It's amazing considering there are some amazing kits out there. First time I saw Sonor live was Steve Smith with Journey. So musical and incredibly solid. Plus he's a pretty good player! Great review guys. Thank you so much for the content.
I'm a huge fan of Sonor drums and own a few snares, a phonic and a hilite set which are great.... but daaaaaaamn that 24" DW's tom and kick sounds are absolute perfection.
It just wouldn't be the Christmas Season without a DCP 10 Best Reviewed Drum Sets of video! I'm making my list for Santa, but the problem is they all sounded great! Thanks, guys, for another great year of fun and informative videos.
@@thepluggy1I will, also I gotta say the Tama elev starclassic in this video made me appreciate mine that I have even more lol. The Tama, pearl, and George way sounded best to me
Right? I own these Rare Pearl ECX all maple “export customs”..I’ve never seen maple exports in my life so I had to buy them (350$). Some of the best sounding drums I’ve ever played. They were only made from 2006-2007 and were made of the remaining leftover Pearl Session maple shells. My point is, I’m not surprised! They make some of the best sounding drums in the game
I LOVE THESE VIDEOS BECAUSE THE QUALITY DCP DEMONSTRATES IS 2nd to none…I hate the videos because I can only wish I had one of these drums 🥹 good job guys !!! happy holiday!!!
WOW!! All the efforts on setting up, editing, mics and videos are TOP NOTCH! You guys are my favorite drum channel period. I wiil buy my dream kit from you guys one day. Thank you so much.
The obligatory, must listen to end-of-year drummer ear candy video. Everything sounded great. Thank you DCP for another year of YT's best drum and cymbal reviews. Santa, I'll be happy with anything shown in this video. I promise I'll be less naughty next year! Santa, those new Meinl Custom Pure Alloy Extra-Thin Hammered cymbals sound like the perfect, ready for studio cymbal. Just in case you read this.
The DW Mahogany/spruce and the George Way toms 😍 the Black panther and the George Way Snares 😍 Shane’s DW and Broadcaster Kick 😍. Love your chanel guys 👍
U guys rock! Todd, t other Todd, Adam, Barrett, Shane, t dude who got that hihat dancing a storm on t Mapex, and all other staff. Thank u for an awesome 2023 filled drum feast. Every set is a killer. And those S dark pies sound amazing. Lots of love from Australia....And....Merry Christmas to u all, and all your subscribers! 🎅☃️🤙🍻
my favorites were the Pearl reference, the George way, and the gretsch broadkaster. But God damn that Sonor Heavy maple is just in another class all of its own. it had everything. Tone , warmth, projection, clarity, just a beast of a drum set.
Love your videos. I thought the George Way kit sounded fantastic. The BDC kit looked and played brilliantly (I’m biased living in the UK). Thanks guys - have a lovely Christmas!! 👍🏼🥁🏴🥁👍🏼
I'm sure I'm not alone when I say this, but... Man Tony's playing has skyrocketed!!👌 Sounding super clean and groovy. Really enjoyed this whole video :)
Thanks again for another fabulousl video. Enjoyed them all perhaps with one exception. Meanwhile the Jelly Bean and the heavy maple Sonora were the coolest. Cheers!! Keep up the great work.
All of them phenomenal. Out of these, the British Drum Company one inspired me the most. Not least because of the Terminator drum fill at the end of that kit demo.
I was interested in buying a BDC kit recently, but contacting the suppliers they listed on their website - very few of them had any kits at all! A couple had snare drums, only. I got the impression you had to order a kit and wait for it to be built for you. Not cheap, either. It must be very hard for small companies to compete, when the big manufacturers have drum shops filled with stock, built in China and ready to go straight out of the warehouse.
Loved them all, but as the owner of a 4 - piece (soon to be 5) British Drum Company kit, the Legend series, I lean towards the BDC Foundry kit. However, the Gretsch and Sonor are impressive, too. As always, great playing, guys. Thank you for your videos, and have a wonderful silly season. Cheers.
Such a fun vid.... they all sound really good. My choice would probably be the Yamaha RC but I'm a Yamaha fan. I also like smaller more highly tuned drums but that British kit sounded amazing. I loved watching Shane channel is inner Todd Sucherman. :-). Nice job guys...
All the kits were great but I liked the DW kits the most very fat punchy tones I bought a DW purple heart kit after watching your videos!! Keep up the great work fellas!!
Several great sounding kits, ONE awesome sounding kit. SONOR, for decades they have had a special sauce no other mfg. on the planet can touch. I'm a heavy beech guy but even that maple is the cream of a very nice crop you assemble there. Well done and happy holidays!!
This is what I've been waiting for 🎅🌲👍👍 Egg nog time, slippers and earphones in watching this right now. To all have a Merry Christmas and a great New Year! 17:150:5513:5115:40 👍👍
I play a set of Geo. Way drums. They're not nearly as well known as the other brands demonstrated here but they are at least as good if not better. Note that the 13x9 tom is free standing, i.e. it's not mounted on the bass. That gives you some positioning flexibility you would not otherwise have.
Two winners from my ears are Rogers and George Way. Also need to mention that Mapex is punching well above its weight class. It wins for best overall value for the money. If you want a thunderous sounding kit, clearly the Gretsch Broadkaster is the way to go. Depends on what sound you want to achieve in the mix. Great video, guys!! 🤘🏽
Great demo. So many good drum sounds and terrific players. Pleased to see a couple 20" bass drums in the mix. I lean towards 20's for their punch and versatility. The Tama and Mapex showed how materials can bring out the depth of the 20's. Both seemed to punch above their price point.
I listened/watched this video twice. I put my headphones on the 2nd time. I love something about each kit. However, the DW mahogany spruce was my all around favorite.
Very impressed by the Rogers snare. What a stunning response! Reminds me of Ludwig Supraphonic LM402. Cymbals: the Zildjan set is absolutely delightful. It sticks out undoubtedly.
The ones that stuck out to me were the Pearl Reference ones. Killer! Love that snare overtone. And the Ludwig jellybean kit! Dude looked like he was having a blast playing them 😂😂
What I adore about DCP videos is that the drummers that demonstrate the various kits can PLAY and understand how to make a statement within the time constraints of the demo. That’s what keeps the listener engaged. The DW Mahogany/Spruce room mics sounded absolutely insane!! Rogers, Gretsch Boadkaster with the Istanbul cymbals, the clarity of Pearl drums tones is phenomenal, Ludwig Vistalites 😮 The power of the Yamaha Recording series, Shane’s DW Maple/Mahoghany 15 piece and Sonor SQ2 is SICK!!😂
Said it before. And still confused on what spruce is supposed to sound like. 🤷🏻♂️ But, that’s where my ears go with the DW rock kit. At any rate, awesome and amazing diverse collection you guys have here. Happy Holidays 🎉
I’m incredibly bias towards pearl so I’d probably pick the reference. However, considering the level of some of the kits here, (I’m not a drum snob but I never thought I’d say this 🤣) I REALLY like the mapex. I thought exactly the same when I saw it on your other video 😍
DW spruce? That John Good is one crazy man! Not my sound but I would definitely dig that exotic "compact" kit! British Drum company has some really sweet sounding drums. Theirs and the jellybean kit were my favorite sounding kits. Never saw Zildjian S dark before, still like the A custom better. Great video. Still waiting for a cowbell comparison.
Every year you do these…I get good enough sound info to buy from this alone…especially with living in a town of 55k with one music store that’s piano and brass-dominated with some minimal drum parts, sticks, a few cymbals, etc… Beats having to drive a couple hours to the nearest Guitar Center to compare kits, etc…
SHANE'S KIT! : )) 100 PERCENT My Ludwig has 11 drums and 10 electronic pads, good choice on the cymbals, I use Sabian AA rock : ) AAX metal ride and a 14 XSR fast crash

The Apex actually seemed to project and maintain tone with just the room mics. Pearl was a close second in this regard. The British Founders Reserve sound positively Gretsch-like to me. Not bad on just the room mics, either. The DW-ekit is certainly innovative and interesting, but clearly shows (sounds) its limitations in this video - the cymbals in particular. Not every gig is mic’d to the gills; pure room sound is sometimes all we get. Great that you do these vids to help us decide!
DCP would have to tell you for certain. I'm 95% certain all four cymbals are from the Meinl Pure Alloy Custom line. Also, 95% certain the two crashes are the new to 2023 Hammered Extra-Thin 18" and 20". Ride is possibly a 20" Medium-Thin and the Hi Hats are possibly 14" Medium-Thin. Hopefully, someone from DCP will see this and can let us know for certain.

That sonar heavy maple in those sizes was just such a nice big timeless sound but there was something about that dw compact maple mahogany that was just music to my ears above the rest would have liked him to play all the Toms on that one but I think I may have to getting that wood combo 👍🏼
The Sonor SQ2 Maple just sings like no other kit in this comparison. Sonor drums are and always have been at another level. These drums are of high prestige. Gotta show the Yamaha RC some love too.
