After 40 years Sonor is still winning these top 10 things. It's amazing considering there are some amazing kits out there. First time I saw Sonor live was Steve Smith with Journey. So musical and incredibly solid. Plus he's a pretty good player! Great review guys. Thank you so much for the content.
Such a fun vid.... they all sound really good. My choice would probably be the Yamaha RC but I'm a Yamaha fan. I also like smaller more highly tuned drums but that British kit sounded amazing. I loved watching Shane channel is inner Todd Sucherman. :-). Nice job guys...
@@thepluggy1I will, also I gotta say the Tama elev starclassic in this video made me appreciate mine that I have even more lol. The Tama, pearl, and George way sounded best to me
Right? I own these Rare Pearl ECX all maple “export customs”..I’ve never seen maple exports in my life so I had to buy them (350$). Some of the best sounding drums I’ve ever played. They were only made from 2006-2007 and were made of the remaining leftover Pearl Session maple shells. My point is, I’m not surprised! They make some of the best sounding drums in the game
Love your videos. I thought the George Way kit sounded fantastic. The BDC kit looked and played brilliantly (I’m biased living in the UK). Thanks guys - have a lovely Christmas!! 👍🏼🥁🏴🥁👍🏼
I LOVE THESE VIDEOS BECAUSE THE QUALITY DCP DEMONSTRATES IS 2nd to none…I hate the videos because I can only wish I had one of these drums 🥹 good job guys !!! happy holiday!!!
Oh my those gorgeous looking and sounding drums are treat for the eyes and ears❤....only independent drum store IN THE WORLD if you're looking to any buy drums and cymbals IN THE WORLD..if only my secret Santa worked there...sigh...😢
The obligatory, must listen to end-of-year drummer ear candy video. Everything sounded great. Thank you DCP for another year of YT's best drum and cymbal reviews. Santa, I'll be happy with anything shown in this video. I promise I'll be less naughty next year! Santa, those new Meinl Custom Pure Alloy Extra-Thin Hammered cymbals sound like the perfect, ready for studio cymbal. Just in case you read this.
I'm a huge fan of Sonor drums and own a few snares, a phonic and a hilite set which are great.... but daaaaaaamn that 24" DW's tom and kick sounds are absolute perfection.
SHANE'S KIT! : )) 100 PERCENT My Ludwig has 11 drums and 10 electronic pads, good choice on the cymbals, I use Sabian AA rock : ) AAX metal ride and a 14 XSR fast crash
I play a set of Geo. Way drums. They're not nearly as well known as the other brands demonstrated here but they are at least as good if not better. Note that the 13x9 tom is free standing, i.e. it's not mounted on the bass. That gives you some positioning flexibility you would not otherwise have.
It just wouldn't be the Christmas Season without a DCP 10 Best Reviewed Drum Sets of video! I'm making my list for Santa, but the problem is they all sounded great! Thanks, guys, for another great year of fun and informative videos.
I'm sure I'm not alone when I say this, but... Man Tony's playing has skyrocketed!!👌 Sounding super clean and groovy. Really enjoyed this whole video :)
The DW Mahogany/spruce and the George Way toms 😍 the Black panther and the George Way Snares 😍 Shane’s DW and Broadcaster Kick 😍. Love your chanel guys 👍
my favorites were the Pearl reference, the George way, and the gretsch broadkaster. But God damn that Sonor Heavy maple is just in another class all of its own. it had everything. Tone , warmth, projection, clarity, just a beast of a drum set.
I’m incredibly bias towards pearl so I’d probably pick the reference. However, considering the level of some of the kits here, (I’m not a drum snob but I never thought I’d say this 🤣) I REALLY like the mapex. I thought exactly the same when I saw it on your other video 😍
Ok someone playing on a drum set does not tell me if this is a good drum set or not. Need to know what the shell is made out of how good the hardware is etc.
It’s only me and another guy standing behind the Tama. Only kit sounding as good through the room mic as with the full mix. And not as expensive as many of the other kits.
I have the walnut birch starclassic and this video made me appreciate mine even more lol. It sounded so good, that and the pearl reference and the Yamaha recording custom sounded the best. Guess I like Japanese drums lol
@@rippindrummer666 I’ve never owned a Tama. Only Pearl -a cheap model that my parents gave me as a teenager and I loved- and now a Sonor AQ2, which I found in a good deal and also like. But being a non-professional drummer but with some ambitions on that area (I study drums every day and am a music educator) my “dream” kits are the Starclassic and the Gretsch Renown. Those are the two kits consistently sounding good across genres and looking polished enough for my taste. Furthermore, I do not see myself sounding better in anything more expensive than those. I definitely feel a little of good envy about your Tama. Enjoy it! I’m sure you won’t need a different kit to become the best drummer you can be -although you might need good drumheads and cymbals. ;)
All of them phenomenal. Out of these, the British Drum Company one inspired me the most. Not least because of the Terminator drum fill at the end of that kit demo.
I was interested in buying a BDC kit recently, but contacting the suppliers they listed on their website - very few of them had any kits at all! A couple had snare drums, only. I got the impression you had to order a kit and wait for it to be built for you. Not cheap, either. It must be very hard for small companies to compete, when the big manufacturers have drum shops filled with stock, built in China and ready to go straight out of the warehouse.
Well I was a big Ludwig player for many years but started out on pearl now I have 9 sets I favor Yamahas for there quality and sound and I liked the DW big set up but I have a PDP CX SET THAT ARE COMPAIRABLE
Said it before. And still confused on what spruce is supposed to sound like. 🤷🏻♂️ But, that’s where my ears go with the DW rock kit. At any rate, awesome and amazing diverse collection you guys have here. Happy Holidays 🎉
DCP would have to tell you for certain. I'm 95% certain all four cymbals are from the Meinl Pure Alloy Custom line. Also, 95% certain the two crashes are the new to 2023 Hammered Extra-Thin 18" and 20". Ride is possibly a 20" Medium-Thin and the Hi Hats are possibly 14" Medium-Thin. Hopefully, someone from DCP will see this and can let us know for certain.
U guys rock! Todd, t other Todd, Adam, Barrett, Shane, t dude who got that hihat dancing a storm on t Mapex, and all other staff. Thank u for an awesome 2023 filled drum feast. Every set is a killer. And those S dark pies sound amazing. Lots of love from Australia....And....Merry Christmas to u all, and all your subscribers! 🎅☃️🤙🍻
I started playing hair guitar in 1985 when I was 15. The standard issue drum set was 9 pc minimum double bass Tama with 2 power toms mounted to each bass drum, a snare and 2 floor toms. They looked badass. Then, someone thought a single bass drum with a single tom was a great idea. Probably a wearer of flannel and a hater of guitar solos. Absolutely RUINED the visual stage impact. Was on par with the genius idea of putting a wood fired pizza oven on the Hindenburg. That monumental fail continues to this day.
Thanks again for another fabulousl video. Enjoyed them all perhaps with one exception. Meanwhile the Jelly Bean and the heavy maple Sonora were the coolest. Cheers!! Keep up the great work.
Sometimes you have to say, "REALLY"? The first 7 or more sets were 4 piece kits. I mean,Why???. This makes NO sense. You should always use a 10, 12, 14, 16, 22. This gives the listener the options needed to make a decision. I have no idea what you people were thinking. Sitting here shaking my head and asking, this drum shop knows what they're doing? I'm wondering.

I was actually going to be upset if that SQ2 wasn't #1 lol
That was picked as #1 as soon as we recorded it...so good!
Not much can beat the Sonor SQ2 drum system currently, it is just flawless in so many ways.
These stood out: Sonor, Pearl Reference, Shane’s DW, Yamaha.

My favorite set from the list is Shane's compact DW set, it just doesn't get more compact than that.
That Mapex kit has some serious punch! I also love how Barrett was the obvious choice to play the monster size 70’s gretch❤️

The Rogers kit imo sounded the best , I switched to ddrum dios kit and love them.
Best Compact Drum Set, lol! That one got me! 🤭
Pearl all the way.
DW drums have zero tone. It's just a dead flat thud. They're the PRS of drums. They look amazing but have no soul at all.
