It’s amazing how Mr Benek can sensitively adjust the demo to the characteristics of each particular kit. They all sound great when he plays them. A massive thumbs-up!
Que belleza!
I can watch this man play any drum set. He's AWESOME.
Daaamn that kit sounds heavy!! I never fancied the newer Imperialstars so much, now this is worth looking into
Some lovely Bonham channelling there. A joy to watch.
Man I love those shell sizes! Looks great and sounds even better!
First thing I thought as well.
Crazy, I have a 78' Tama Superstar mahogany in this EXACT configuration.
Luxusní hraní i zvuk, díky!
Sometimes I play exactly this drum too but my main set is a Tama Superstar Vintage - I love these drums...
Damn, I had an Imperialstar kit back in the 80s, two 24" kicks, eight concert toms from 6" - 16", and an 18" floor. Kit sounded amazing!
kristallin yeah
I still have all mine including the x-tras! 26-inch bass drums too! Let's not forget the gong drum and two octaves of octobans! Yes, 16 of them!
Did you have a roadie or did you lug those around yourself? Who's playing them today?
Much different than the Imperialstars, from back in the day. I liked those too.
Just bought a kit and am gonna do your kit as it’s a beaut!!!
Definitely a rewrap, but very nice none the less..
I got a 1979 TAMA Imperialstar kit from a local drummer when I was maybe 15. I’ve never put any thought into it and I’ve always had a main kit. I’ve been kinda disappointed in my Ludwig Vistalites lately and I’m thinking about giving my TAMA kit a go
great!!!
Reminds me of Dave grohls drumset
Have you painted the inside of shells? which kind of paint? i have the same drum in black finish
Tama should bring these drums back they would sell like gangbusters.
They were too good I think. I mean Tama probably wanted to sell more expensive lines. I agree though wish they had stayed like this.
Versus It's the same thing with Pearls DLX and WLX lines i prefer them and the Superstars to any newer drums i have heard.
They just did a 40th anniversary now in 2018.
What Tama line did Stewart Copeland play? I had never heard of Tama until he came along.
Stamp Jockey Imperialstars and i think he played superstars for a short time. He still plays Tama as far as i know.
I have a Tama 1978 Imperialstar and the snare is much crisper. This snare version sounds flat, not the same snare at all.
That kit isn't from 1978. The Imperialstar's were a 5 ply shell and had factory reinforcing rings up into the early part of 1980. Then half way through the year, they went to the 9 ply shell withOUT the re-ring.
Why? The reinforcing rings are clearly visible on both toms. It's impossible to tell on the bass drum because there is only one camera angle that takes us inside and there is glare along the edge obscuring identification. It's difficult to imagine that the bass drum is from a later set with exactly the same finish.
Frank Kusch
A) You can see that there aren't any reinforcing rings at 0:29. When you look at '70s Imperialstars, you can clearly see the reinforcing ring pretending from the shell. These are straight 9 ply shells that have been painted over the Zola Coat.
B) Tama didn't offer White Marine Pearl as a finish. That has been recovered. Pretty obvious.
I deal with these drums all of the time and I play them on a regular basis. This set is actually devalued because it's been stripped and redone. Probably worth around $500.
Frank Kusch I stand corrected. The toms do have reinforcing rings. However, the bass drum IS a 9 ply shell. Skip to 1:16 and you'll see it. It is rewrapped though (not an original color offered), the spurs aren't original, along with the bass drum hoops. They only offered metal hoops w/ I lay for the Imperialstar's. Also the interior of the shells have been painted white.
Yes, and I think you are right about the bass drum. That hoop is for sure not original.
wonderful kit and playing. really nice sound.
What heads are you using?
Thanks
Remo ambassadors or emporers i think
Como puedo conseguir la tarola imperial King de metal
Get a 26 inch bass drum. I switched from 22 to 24. Night and day difference.
Great sound, especially for the money.
Looks good too, but would go for the Gretsch Catalinas at this level.
Dont compare this drum to a catalina please 😅

Those at Gretsch may not agree with you.
The placement of the air vent/ badge on the rack tom is too high. It should be on between the bottom lugs and the muffler which is missing should be where the air vent is located. Defintely a re-work. But nice wrap.
Moc dobry bubeník
get rid of the 13x9 and replace it with a 14x10 and and coated emperors over coated ambassadors and it would be my perfect kit which sounds great btw
No they don't
i had imperialstar back in the mid 80 the material that they where made of then was a composite Wood spoon glue material i think ,not real Wood like mapel or birch
Luan with Zola coat.
They were basically the same as the Swingstars with nicer lugs and tom holder's. Some had internal mufflers too.
Which Remo heads are you using on snare?
It is standard Remo Ambassador Coated head.
Is that the Kingbeat snare too?
It is Tama Imperialstar snare drum.
ok, i believe they are one in the same. thanks!
1st generation Imperialstar snare drum with the short snare wires.
Snare!!!
Bad Ass!!!
re-wrap?
Gotta be
Bass drum sounds dead. Way too muffled :(
