Hal Blaine, no question.
John bonham, Phil Collins, and Billy Cobham. I used to have a recurring nightmare that I'd go to an audition and those 3 guys were ahead of me on line.
Bonham and Peart.
My 1 and 1a.
Neil…
Aynsley Dunbar, Cozy Powell, Clive Bunker, Barrie Barlowe
Great to see 14 inches deep kick drums coming back!
I love having toms mounted on the kick as well. I wish drum companies would just make kits available in both options.
It's cheaper for drum companies not to give us a tom holder.
I have a first generation Tama Superstar kit that's well over a decade older than me that I found at a Sam Ash for $799 last year, and since I've picked it up, it's been my main kit. I put some clear Remo Emperors on it, tune it right above where the wrinkles disappear on the batter side and my band mates are as blown away as I am by the dark, focused, and warm tones. Highly recommend this kit to all!
You lucky duck. Enjoy that kit. They are so unreal.
I have a 9 piece super star Xtra s series cherry wine 12 / 13 // 14 / 15 mounted. 16 /18 floor toms 2 24 Bass drums. . I purchased this kit in 82. Retired to my drum studio take them out for small gigs but they mostly stay home. Also have a super star hyper drive kit snow white Pearl. 8 /10 /12 racks 14 /16/18 floor toms 22 /18 kick. Super star will always be the stuff.
One thing a lot of people don't realize is how well they record in the studio. Birch is always the best just my 2 cents. Alot of my drummer buddy's like maple. To each his or her own.
I think I would be cool if they made a 22/12/13/16 configuration so the sizes would be accurate to the vintage kit
I am old enough to have seen and played the original Superstar: I still remember the sensation Superstar made when they first came out! The reissue sounds great, no doubt, but I somehow regret that Tama chose to go with today's standard for the rack toms (but they went back to 14" deep bass drums ...). 10" - 12" is the standard nowadays but in my opinion 12" - 13" was something else. Even if all of the three kits I currently own are 10" - 12", I have the feeling that 10" toms are often too small, with less power and above all less body than 12" toms. Additionally, in my opinion the interval between 12" toms and 16" floor toms often reveals to be a little too big. On the other side I know that many drummers think that the interval between 12" and 13" toms is too little: well, they are probably right, but personally I sometimes think I would like to go back to the 12" - 13" ...
I did play 10 - 13 -16 for quite some time. That's a really nice interval i think. eventually i got annoyed by having the toms higher due to increased depth of the 13 inch tom.
I agree. They should have gone 12x8, 13x9, 16x16, 22x14.
Then have add ons available, 10x8, 14x10, 14x14, 18x16. Etc.
Maybe even 6, 8 and 10 concert toms.
The drums are so beautifully finished inside you almost want to go with clear heads.
I’m digging these sizes. If I got a new kit it’d be 22x14 bass drum, good to see these starting to be offered.
Tama Superstar is what Neil Peart used back in the 70’s and 80’s. Amazing kit! Also 2024 Tama is reissuing the greatest snare of all time. The Tama Bell brass! Gotta get one, $3,999.99 Lol.
Finally. A drum set with no garbage drumheads to sound good right out of the box. Well done TAMA!
kick mounted toms and a shallow kick too! Tama gets it
It's not like you aren't paying for them.
How is it birch is generally considered second fiddle except when a company puts out a reissue or limited edition with better hardware and that makes it different.
In 83 I was 20 yrs old, purchased a Tama Super Star Cherry Wine color gigged with it extensively for 14 years. Recorded GREAT, sounded great, and everything on those drums held up perfect. Also ordered the Spartan hardware so those aluminum legs looked good with the set but what was cool is they were a lighter and you can adjust the rubber / spike feet. Say what you want about Tama lol -- Top Tier Company for sure! Highly recommended and great to see the Super Stars back, super cool! Those single brace stands in this vid look bad arse! Great choice, gonna have to look into those, you can see the beauty of the drums - nice balance, instead of a double brace chrome forest blocking the view... Sorry long winded, Peace
I have this kit still. 1983 Superstar birch made in Japan. Same finish, everything.
Me too, but 82! They should have went with the black dots!
Still have the scar on my finger!
This is cool but they should have brought back 12,13. The 10 in Birch doesn't sustain at all. Kit sounds best from the 12 on through kick.
agreed. i bought a 13 for my stage custom for that reason
No isolated tom mount i see, real classic. Sounds great
Very cool kit! I have a Superstar kit that was made somewhere between 1979 and 1981. The one thing that I'm glad that Tama did with the reissue was move the badges so they are visible when you set them up. The badges on the original design are on the opposite end of the mounts. Not the biggest deal in the world but I'm glad they made the change. Great playing as usual, Nick!
I like that Tama is reissueing the hits from their heyday. Hopefully we see a Rosewood snare as well.
Sweetwater just released a video of the reissued Tama Rosewood. An amazing Snare drum.
Tama also reissued the Legendary Tama Bell Brass!
Took delivery of my Rosewood snare drum yesterday.
I've got the original. My favorite set ever!!
Man, they could have stuck the landing by making the toms 12/13/16 instead of this newer 10/12/16. It’s the only part that seems off.
fantastic playing as always. beautiful kit.
His comment about the tone interval between each drum is soooo on point. I used to have a set of these but always had issues with the tone interval between the 12" and 13" toms. Seriously thinking about getting a set in the Maple finish. My previous kit was in the Cherry finish.
Awesome, thank you Nick, great drums and great playing
you're killing it, nick
floor tom is killer
Gorgeous! And the tone and punch of that bass drum is spectacular!!!
Bring back the power tom version, and do they stain the interiors? The originals had stained interiors! I mean cool they finally bring back a great drum line. A drum key for a gift is silly that thing is 10 bucks. He didn’t say anything about the bearing edge. Originals had a rounded 45 degree edge.
As a kid starting out I used to drool over the aqua marine superstar kit they had in store. They used to have the mirrored kick head and man did that look great against the blue! So cool that these are back! I had this mahogany set as my first real kit.
Ironically, a church I played events at had one in that color, in the larger sizes, with the 24” kick and 18” floor tom. Was either a 13” or 14” rack. That was over 15 years ago, but I’d bet they still have it. Nice kit.
Tama needs to bring back the Rockstar series. Such an amazing line
Honestly agree! They should discontinue the imperialstar line since it's been going on for ages, and focus on bringing back the Rockstar OR even the Royalstar line of drums. Good sets those were.
I’m buying as soon as they’re released.
TAMA do the right things at the right time!
I am gonna get this drumset this friday! YES!
Best all birch kit I've ever heard. That being said, Nick could make 4 trash cans sound like a million bucks.
Wish they offered add ons and more options on depth. I would love an 8 piece kit.
Brilliant playing!
Great kit and great song!
Every finish is gorgeous!
And they sound as good as they look!
I thought the floor tom was the star, then I heard that bass drum...Incredible tone AND punch!!!
Very nice kit, beautiful 😍
I've got an original matching snare for this kit..... Ive always wanted a complete kit. 😬
A classic sound, unparalleled and unrivaled.
Long ago I remember hearing about the vintage Superstars as one of the most sought after vintage kits, then I saw RDavidR make his video with his super maple kit a few years after that and I was able to hear just how great these sounded. This reissued kit is awesome, I really like the sizes as well (10x8 and 12x8 toms, and the shallow kick). Kick mounted toms are always appreciated as well, the highlight of this kit would be that kick drum with its sound profile. Great to see this reissued!!
Great drums! I like the colors. Can't wait to test them.
Nice Telefunken mics. Sounds great!
Another fine example of how everything was better back in the 80s and I mean everything
All this makes me wanting the Originals even more😊
I didn't liked the 10"tom at first. But in the context of the whole set it sounds cool. I guess that is what great engineering is about 😊
I mean they sound fine but thick shelled drums imo just don't compare to modern thin shells (for kick and toms), which are more resonant and bassy:- thin shells just sing more. Then again, I can understand how some people might want thicker shells for punchy, cutting short sustain drum sound =)
Just watching u play whatever comes to mind is sensational. T kit, that's t bonus. 🍻
This kit desparately needs the 13" added. The only thing that looks off is the Tom Mount Bracket on the Bass drum. Just doesn't fit, would love to see the vintage version.
Nick is a national treasure, love the enthusiasm and he’s great at explaining all the new products, also helps that he’s a great drummer too. These 50th anniversary Tama kits are really cool. Don’t know which one I like more this one or the mirage acrylics. Think I’m gonna talk my studio engineer into buying the bell brass reissue snare.
Beautiful! Tama is the best for me ❤🇯🇵
These drums sound great !!!
Super Nick! The best one!
Love my 2 TAMA KITS NICK LOVE THESE DRUMS FROM WAY BACK ❤
I remember my local music store had this kit in aquamarine. After a thorough inspection, I thought that Toyota had gotten into the drum business. There was a well built, sturdy drum kit.
Nothing beats the 14“ depth of a kick drum. The low end punch is much more focused and controlled.
Another great demo jam, Nicky.
Batteria dal suono bellissimo e batterista eccezionale!❤️❤️
Tama solid sound..awesome 🥁👍🔥
I still have the original superstars in cherry wine from the 80’s and really love that 14x22 kick. I do like the new Tom sizes as the original ones were extra deep.
Nice but.... Where is the 13" tom? Deal breaker right there.
Power tom depth would also be nice.
I bought years ago from a friend 1985 Superstar drums. Double 24 in kicks I think by 16. 13, 14, 15 rack Toms and 18 in floor for $500.00. I got a 10 in rack Tom later close to the red from 1983 for $92.00. What I don’t like about them is the Toms are so deep and the drums are so heavy in weight! I wish had my own custom sizes but I use a couple of toms from my Pearl kit since it’s just at home. My favorite is the 24 inch kick drums! Power!
I'll stick with my Yamaha Stage Custom Birch drums, less than half the price with un beatable hardware mounting system, plus you get every add on sizes you can ever ask for.
Power tom sizes please!!
Le 6 plis de bouleau est vraiment super, tama a frappé un coup de circuit en reeditant ce kit
Finally a great birch kit again
You say "Tama",
I say "Tama"! 😮
I hope they make a bop kit too.
Best bop kit ever made imho.
And I think the older legs were better.
I had the bop kit!
One big thing to note is the 22" bass drum (and larger) have 10 lugs, not 8 like the standard Superstar "classic" series. Would love to have this with the 24" in the aquamarine.
Stoked for this! Do you know if they will offer any additional sizes eg 9x13 tom?
So far from what I'm seeing it looks like Tama is sticking to these sizes as this is only a limited reissue for now sadly. I wish they did the 12 and 13 instead of the 10 and 12 (though the 10s a keeper since Stewart Copeland highly favors that tom size particularly).
@@IAmInfinitus208 - thanks very much - appreciate the reply! I think these will be very popular and hopefully they'll allow some additional sizes. I was thinking SC as well!
I hope they include some other classic sizes like 13x9 and 14x10 plus 14 and 15 floor toms.
NICK>.>>>> I HAVE A CHALLENGE FOR YOU!!!!!! I don't know if you read your comments, but I hope this gets around to you!!!! You kick adds on the drums, so my challenge to You, I would love to see you create Your next video playing Hard Rock/Hevi-Medal (Metallica Style Drums) or even Death-Medal!!!! I would love to see You showcase Your ultimate skills and for you to pick out the best Drum Kit for this Genre of music!!!!!That would be awesome Nick!!!! Maybe do a combo with the Aaron (the new Rock Guitarist showing the new Ibanez Guitars)!!!!!! I hope You except this Challenge Nick!!!! Looking forward to the video!!!!!
The kit doesn’t sound bad, but those coated heads on the top and bottom make those toms flat sounding. I like my toms to resonate a little more.
Are the shells made of hokkaido birch??
Premium Scandinavian birchwood
Deffo I would put diplomats on kit .
Lets av it!!
That floor❤
Links to the sets aren't working man.
Surprisingly affordable price!
Great video and great drumming !
Are these kits made in Japan like the vintages?
This is not written on the tom badges while it was clearly mentioned on the original vintage badges...
Hello! On thomann site I've watched this kit Made In Japan logo.
If tama ever did a replica of the 1991 Metallica kit…that would be an expensive day for me
The Artstar 2 series were the best tama drums
The original drums had different edges, more rounded with more sustain.
ahhhhhhhhhh why they changed the tom holder attack on bass drum ????
What kind of mics are you using?
drums are just so sexy
Such a bummer that they went with a 10, 12 instrad of 12,13.
This guy looks like an Impractical Joker
See Tama came up with the superstar in 76. 50 years ago would be 1974.
would have been a better demo without coated heads SMH
made in china..
this is not hokkaido birch
You may be right about the birch, I don't know. I've been to the China factory when I had a massive Starclassic kit made, and I was incredibly impressed. Outside of crazy exotic woods on my Tama Star kits the Chinese made Starclassic is killer and compares pretty evenly.
@@legacyShredder1 As you say, the quality is really great from the Chinese Star Classic Maple.
However, this Superstar Kit seems to be of middle quality like a performer or slp kit.
This kit is a completely different wood grain from the original Hokkaido Birch model, and the feeling of hitting is completely different.
@@cruz2767 In modern years the whole Superstar line has seemed like an upper-ish intermediate line. This kit seems to be portrayed as a cut above that, but it may very well just be a special looking version of what already exists.
Nerd-music...
It's my humble opinion that Neil Peart's best sounding kits were the TAMA ones.
Love Neil! He definitely sounded great on those Tamas! But my fave are the Ludwigs featured in A Show of Hands. The toms are just so open and they really sing!
Happy Drumming!!!
@@mjm5081 10000%!!
As much as I am a Tama fanboy : I always thought that!
@@RimshotsandNamaste Great minds...
They sound thuddy. Tama made an error here. I think the head combo is not right but nice kit. Im sure the price is outrageous....so
