I've seen 4 of those 5 films, except for Fonda in Ulee's Gold. Hoffman was good in Wag the Dog, but up for lead actor? It was a supporting role. For a split second there, I thought maybe Tim Allen really did get nominated for his role in Jungle 2 Jungle and I was just living under a rock that year. Just as quickly as that thought came into my head, I dismissed it because I can’t see any way that Tim Allen would get an Oscar nomination on his own, let alone for a movie like Jungle 2 Jungle. I must admit Jon Voigt was awesome but there is no way on earth you could deny Jack this award. Besides the Joker in 1989 batman and 1992 A Few Good Men this was the best performance of his life.

Leonardo DiCaprio for Titanic was the people’s choice that year. It was also the truth. Jacky’s a boss and he saved the oscars from utter embarrassment; the academy was politicked into a dead end where some mediocre people were handed out fake nominations just to make up the numbers and keep Leo out of the picture altogether. Epic fail. Poetic justice: two decades later the kid the academy once shunned has risen higher than the academy itself.

Jacky’s a boss and he saved the oscars from utter embarrassment; the academy was politicked into a dead end where some mediocre people were handed out fake nominations just to make up the numbers and keep Leo out of the picture altogether. Epic fail. Poetic justice: two decades later the kid the academy once shunned has risen higher than the academy itself.
