So a few days back I made the video about making combos easier, but not much talk about actual combos/combo structure so lets change that! From the basics, damage scaling, unique properties and all that, lets get into the weeds about combos in KoF XV! If the video was useful for you leave a like, it actually help the channel a bunch!
This game (well, all fighting games, really) could do with a combo editor, like ArcSys did for Strive. Between that and online training partners, I think you’d see major improvements across the whole player base.
You didn't show anything about or how 2 get wall bounces who gets them and what moves get them, they are my favorite part of every fighting game.
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Please put the Arabic in caption for understanding better ❤
First KOF and have a really tough time adjusting. Feels like a completely different beast than SF and GG. I won’t give up easily though!
Its def a lot closer to SF than GG, but yeah KoF is its own thing for sure. However if you have any SF background I don't think its that big of an adjustment in the end past the mobility options.
This is my first KOF too. I love it so far but I’m amazed at how different the neutral feels compared to SF. Plus the execution on KOF feels a lot stricter.
What characters are you playing? @bartosz
Agreed I never played a new kof and heavy characters but the game and king of dinosaurs feels so good.
I was a great player of SF (including alpha/zero 2/3 and many other Capcom/SF vs) until I Discovered KOF, this system is amazing. More fast and fun
Essential tips series of video for tomorrow on proper launch day, and then maybe a couple more combo guides and getting into the weeds with character specific guides? who knows cause I literally don't. However I feel I got a good coverage on all the basics of the game now with the videos out, make sure to check the playlist linked at the end of the video because everything is going in there and it contains a lot of info!
Are you by chance going to do combo vids for the WHOLE cast? (Obviously that sounds like a buttload of work, but just curious)
Great videos! Very helpful. If you are doing more character videos, my votes are for Athena, Joe, and Robert.
Needed this! Coming from playing street fighter for years, this game is hella different. It's amazing tho I'm taking L's online but learning on the way thanks to you!
I agree I haven’t even went online yet cuz I only have one character down now I’m on my second character It’s a lot to learn like k’ u have to do his moves so fast after each other it’s frustrating
To the people who are struggling so far, don’t give up! I finally got my “click” today and the game is starting to feel more familiar. Coming from SF and GG this was a big adjustment for me.
Nice !
I hopped into 15 as my first KoF, as someone who primarily plays anime fighters, this transition is rough.
Hitting the lab and learning as much as i can but I haven't had the "click" moment where everything makes sense. I'm going to improve, start winning more consistently and feel good doing it. 15 is going to be an up hill battle but I won't lose.
As with any fighting game they all have their own unique stuff that takes time to learn. Someone who only played kof going to an anime fighter would also have a harder transition. Practice makes perfect!
That’s the beauty of learning a new fighting game.
Same homie
My first kof was 13 and it took me months to get decent to put everything together (good with 3 characters, neutral, max mode cancel combos, etc) I came from SF4 and mvc2 and yea different but you'll get there!
Dude keep the tutorials coming people like you make new players not quit
As my last KOF was 2001. Anything beyond normal, cmnd norm then special/super is Greek to me. Hence this is very helpful for returners to the franchise
These tutorials are teaching me more than the game does
This is one of my first KOF and I have your videos on all the time at work now trying to learn everything I can so I can get good and use too the game thanks a lot for the uploads
Thank you, Rooflemonger! I've been fiending for any content about KoF 15 ESPECIALLY learning content. Excited for things like universally simplified Super inputs, this will be the first KoF that I really want to get good in. This game is so polished and accessible, and content like yours makes it even more accessible for Kof casuals like me!
Sheesh, the Mai flex combo, time to use :) thanks for the awesome video!
Months later and this is still an amazing combo guide. I came from GG and decided to hop into this KOF as my first one and definitely having a bit of trouble adjusting, but your tip videos have been a tremendous help. Keep it up my guy!
Thanks for this! Only ever really gotten into NRS, and this looks similar in some ways but also very different lol can't wait to try it out tomorrow!
Playing KOF since 94, so KOF XV is the best version since 97-98. Great mechanics, great roster and very satisfying combos with that feeling of joy (which is where SFV failed miserably)
Thank you sensei, figuring out the combo system has been a real struggle. This will help a ton.
Still getting used to playing KOF again, but I’m loving it. Your recent videos have been a huge help. Thanks, man!
Thank you so much for all of these explanations, i was struggling badly but finally feel like i am slowly but surely getting a hang of things.
I needed this. I am getting use to the movement in the game and trying meaties and other stuff. Thank you!
the amount of love you put into your videos and the fgc as a whole is just great
Wow really like this video, you get in to a lot of the nuts and bolts of how combos work in XV. Bravo sir, this was NOT a subject many would care to approach in any meaningful way. Particularly enjoy the amount of research and care that you have put in to your videos and it really shows how much you truly love fighting games.
Didn't know KOD had OTG options... must further investigate since I need to really learn a grappler in XV
Please keep this series going and hope you are enjoying XV as much as I am enjoying your videos.
Thanks for breaking all this down. It’s super helpful
I just wanted to say thanks, this set of videos has been a big help. Day 1 I was banging my head against the wall with just special cancels but now I realize in some cases at least maybe it wasn’t my timing, it was just a normal that can’t cancel which I wasn’t aware of.
I like how you have to really dig into characters in this game to see what properties their kit has.
thanks for the button hold trick, makes the super/climax cancels in missions a lot easier.
Another fantastic and informative video. I'm ready to play this tomorrow on PC.
I like how the combo structures work in this game! From basic BnBs to the really flashy stuff. I should experiment if any of my characters moves have the "juggle anywhere" property to optimise my combos! ^^
EXCELLENT guide. Thank you! Can't wait to hit training mode tonight.
Man I always watch your videos. It really helps me become a better player.
Great video! Thanks for the information. I'm patiently waiting for PC release and you're videos are helping me through!
It's gonna be tough getting used to double tap dashes after Strive spoiled me with the dash macro, but the utility of rolls makes up for it. I've been hyped for 15 ever since it was announced and within hours it will finally be here. Between this, Strive, and DNF this summer 2022 will be the year of the fighting game for sure.
You REALLY help us first timers, greatly appreciated!!! One request though, i heard in Aris' (Avoiding the Puddle) stream, his chat was helping him do the trials, that you can "hold down the button" (negative edge???) to make it easier or something. Would you do a separate tutorial on those kind of easier input timings? if there ever is one.
He actually covered it in another video which I'll link here:
ruclips.net/video/4GsA2Y3hJrc/видео.html
@@SleepyRickyC92 thank you so much
@@bena5150 np
Thanks for the tutorial/refresher, combos seem very similar to previous titles :)
Only Clark is allowed to grab you after he grabs you after he grabs your after he
I can do the combos, i just cant do it online. Probably cause i cant hit confirm well. How should i train this?
Simply hit practice mode. If you can't hitconfirm well the big thing is you can set to bot to "block random" and that can be used to train your hitconfirming. Just put on some chill music and repeat repeat repeat. I use this myself when trying to get my hitconfirming skills up.
Set the training dummy to random block. Try to work towards being able to confirm with 2 hits. After doing that for a few hours, you'll be golden
My experience with KOF XIII translated nicely into this game.
The costumes for terry and Leona look so dope. I love the combo system in this game. It feels like they took everything good about the one in 14 and refined it.
Thank you for your guides Rooflemonger! KoF is pretty much a hard to learn game for me, i play usually MK 9-11, Killer Instinct (Steam) and Ultra Street Fighter 4.
waw, Mai combo at the end was delightful ! I am still far from there, good job as always RooffleM
My god man! I bought KOF XV when it came out but it was somewhat different to most fighting games I have played so I was concerned I was going to drop it but this video helped me out soo much! I gotta watch them all lol
Thank you. Super helpful!
This is my first KOF and I’ve only played the MK games growing up. It’s a big transition from what I’m used to but I’ve been in the lab practicing until I get the hang of it. The ones I’m focusing on getting used to are mai, Leona, and Terry. It’s hard to get the timing right on their special moves as well as canceling but I’ll get there in time. I ain’t giving up until I’ve mastered the three :)
I like the fact that you used the stage with the Athena's theme. It's quite catchy
Thanks for the videos.
Thiiiiisss explains a lot. Once more saved by the vids!
Thank you for doing these videos! As someone who's always had a desire to get into KoF this REALLY helps.
I'm a SF player but I have ALWAYS wanted to get into king of fighters. The problem is the combos, I felt, I could never get down and the over all mechanics but you gave me some insight on command normals and combo potential moves so Im motivated. Time to hit training mode
Thanks it was very useful 👌
Love your work
Only ever played Smash for the most part, but I basically main all the fighting game characters. Terry, Kazuya, and I'm trying to pick up Ken. I've also played a fair amount of Mortal Kombat, Just bought KoF XV because Terry is so damn fun in Smash, and now trying to learn this game. Definitely different than other games, but I'm already having a tone of fun, and can't wait to see how much fun I have when I get good.
Dude you are a L E G E N D with these uploads.
rooflemonger super duper godlike KOFXV combos tips & tricks.
My first time playing a KOF game and feels more technical than Tekken. I'm hyped!!
Me (playing KOF first time) liking Angel's design and wanting to main her just for that.
My friends: *profuse sweating*
Still waiting for the game to come out on PC so I can't check, but is there anywhere in-game where you can see if a move has OTG or Juggle Anywhere properties, or will we just have to try that with every move ourselves?
That Shermie command grab you show actually can be rekka'd which DOES set up for some tight and specific followups actually. Her trial 4 showcases this 👍
Hella informative!
Not my first KOF but it will be the first one I'll try online.
Not used to the different jumping and max mode, so gonna need to sit down with that before I even think to touch a charge character in this moment.
This is my first fighting game since MK4 (not including playing a bit vs the CPU in Third Strike on Switch)… and I find creating combos so overwhelming. The level of execution required feels super high, and I’m struggling just doing the level 2 trials for most characters. I’m definitely not giving up, but wow it feels daunting!
Great content
I find it interesting that Heidern Command grab can be blocked if you do it following a close HP
Coming from mk 11 this definitely challenging im but ima gonna get it done
Hello, I'll tell you what my problem is. I can do Advanced Cancel and Climax Cancel with no issue, but I never managed to perform a Super Cancel, not even in the tutorial. What am I doing wrong? Can you tell me what to do in the tutorial or for example when I play with Robert Garcia? Thanks.
Listening to Rooflemonger at 0.25% sounds like Stoned Garfield but great video none the less 🤣
Question! I noticed you have both garou terry and classic Leona! We can get both at the same time with physical orders?
Mine got delayed it didn’t make it to GameStop here in Guam so they said next week…I would download it but I want the physical copy for my ps4.
Thx bro
I play kof 98 and 97 on my ps4, combos on those games have very strict timing, for example, heavy D's light normals into tornado punch has a very strict cancel window and most of the time i dont land it after stun since they block my special afterwards. Or at least the ai does any tips for practicing combos?
Alright you're making me buy this game darn you
I’m having a lot of trouble with inputting supers, it seems that I need to delay it a bit? Seems very different from SFV. It’s my first KOF game but ima gonna keep trying!
Hope they put combo builder challenge mode in the game..do you still have to hit below the belt with jump ins?
For stuff like Meitenkun first mission where it's crouch light punch 3 times into holding left charge to right punch, how do I get a charge/holding move to connect if I'm holding down for the first three punches?
If you charge down back as you do the crouching punches that counts as charging the move. Then when you’ve done the punches, just hit forward or up and your charge move will come out. You only have to charge for half a second so that should be enough time to charge while doing 3 crouching lights. Hope this helps :)
@@i.ftekhar so for that first three crouch punches I only need to crouch for the first and the next two will link for me to hold back?
So, I can see it's almost two years since this video came out, but I got KoF XV in the Steam sale just now and was wondering if someone could help me understand two things (didn't find an answer in this video or the basics one by roofle):
1. When I do a target combo with three light punches and then press a fourth time, either LP, HP or HK I automatically get a super if I have the bar, without any movement inputs whatsoever (Level 1, 2 or 3 depending on the fourth button pressed).
So I can surely condition myself to avoid that combo entirely or to just stop mashing after the third LP (from what I understand going by this video this isn't very optimal anyway) but I was wondering why it is that way and whether there's a possibility in the options somewhere to turn that automatic combo into supers off?
2. In some combos I more or less automatically seem to cancel into special moves doing some (or even no?) motion inputs that then produce a completely different special move - like doing a quarter circle back or just holding back and I suddenly get a DP?? I don't get this at all. I kept a close eye on the inputs on the left side and clearly didn't do anything even remotely resembling a DP - so is there also some kind of auto-combo system, similar to what seems to be happening in the case above with the supers?
I'm having trouble doing Leona's command normal > X-Calibur consistently and it's her most easy BnB combo.
I check the key log when I do it wrong, but the inputs are identical to when I do it right??
Is there some sort of frame knowledge that I don't know that's not allowing me to do such a simple BnB consistently?
(pressing too fast, pressing too slow, etc.?)
Like I was trying her trial 5 for HOURS and I can do the first half with the X-Calibur special in isolation, but the moment I try to do inputs for her V-Slash super afterward, the X-Calibur doesn't come out and the combo ends after the command normal. Why the inconsistency?
@@CodemanS1 I'm having the same issues with Elisabeth... its like sometimes its comes out and sometimes it doesnt.. I'm not really changing the timing either.. Coming from MVC/MK this is crazy lol
hey roofle can you help me out? In the trailer for clark it showed that he had armor on his punch+kick move that led to a stun state if done correctly but ive been toying around with it and i cant see if this move has armor properties at all. Also i saw you mention on Twitter that only his grabs have armour. Was this taken away from him since the trailer? Or am i miss understanding something obvious? Goin crazy bro help lol
What you're talking about is 236+CD, not just CD. And its a universal move not exclusive to Clark, and it takes 1 meter
I was having a little difficulty with the combos, so I've mostly been using Clark and Ramon. I'm still gonna, but this will help me find a third.
Maybe try Mary. Or KOD but he's a much slower than Clark and Ramon.
Do you know about the button hold trick? It definitely takes getting used to, but it helps for sure
@@vangoghsseveredear yeah, I went and watched that video after this. All together, I'm starting to have an easier time.
@@CiroNero I was already using KOD as my third. I haven't tried Mary yet, but I will now.
Mainly was an FPS player even as far as semi Pro in Halo, started fighting games with MK11, this game has thrown me off from MK in the 2 hours I've got to have with it so far, will watch this tonight after work while in training mode
You the best roof
Hey brother good job on your channel, I have a question if you can help me. I was curious if you can show or do a video on short cutting the supers in this game. I’m now on a (Stick) and I’m coming from Street fighter crossing over to KOF. some of these special moves for example geese Howard ,terry.. I can’t figure out the motions.. Thanks 🙏🏾
example of that coming in video very soon
@@rooflemonger thank u 🙏🏾 your the best
Being seasoned veteran of SF, Tekken, GG, MvC and Melee I'm having a hard time adjusting. Never took KOF seriously til now. Doing simply BnBs seems impossible it's frustrating. The timing is so different
Its literally not hard at all, you are just letting the unfamiliarity take over. If you can do combos in marvel and sf, there is zero issue crossing over to KoF other than some of the series specific particulars
@@rooflemonger true true very different and specific. Thank you for responding and keep up the good work! I really appreciate all the vids. Been really helpful
I'm finding it extremely hard to do some combos in mission mode. For example doing Mai's (standing) 👊 + ↘🦶 is a challenge on its own, 50% of the time it won't go off, the room is just way too small. What to say about the rest.
the super heroine theme is so goood
Need mooooooooar kof15 content!
My first kof game coming from fighterz and it all feels so foreign, the amount of directional inputs needed for a bnb blows my mind I don't know how I'll ever get there hang of it but I'll keep on trying
@rooflemonger Hey there fellow monke! Are you going to make Maxima guide? Was labbing him and found out that heavy vapor cannon lost super armor. (Ye,ye, guard points)
Sick Mai combo
Why am i having trouble just stringing light attacks. Coming from someone who plays alot of netherrealm/tekken who can do combos on there but not here... idk if im being too slow with my buttons or too fast? Idk
My son loves this video
Die hard Tekken player here, and I'm looking at trying this iteration of KoF. What all should I be expecting and how does it compare to Tekken if any at all? Any tips or things I should know out the gate?
For sure. KOF has its own unique movement and combo structure (which gets covered in this video). I'm a beginner myself and still learning the combos, but I've played KOF13 and KOF14 in the past and looked up tutorials before.
I remember a key point is mastering hops/ short jumps, and understanding the rock-paper-scissor mechanics in KOF. Generally your poke will beat a hop, a hop will beat a low, and a low will be a poke. Something like that. Here is the tutorial I used in the past:
ruclips.net/video/Ye3KVgI1LvU/видео.html
It covers most of the basics and fundamentals that a beginner will want to know.
Wish the game actually told us this
WAIT! Has that command normal trait trade off thing for raw vs combo always been a kof thing????? Brb, gotta go get my '98 going.
Kof 15 is gonna the first KoF I'll take seriously since Kof 13 and 14.
maybe you've already got this in the works, but i think a video on what you can tech vs not tech in this game would be nice
there's things in this game that you wouldn't be able to tech in other games that you can in kof, and it makes me feel like i'm behind
Damn, I spent quite a bit of time trying to get Leona's f+LK into Ex-calibur to work by practicing it RAW. I thought I was just timing it wrong...
Decided to make this game my first comp "normal" fighting game (coming from plat fighters like NASB and slap city) and god combos r just the most annoying thing to get down
But I'm getting there, one fucked up half circle at a time
any guide how to do The King Of Fighters 15: Canceling Guide
I have been trying the input for climax super special moved and it does not come out so matter what I do.
It’s only been a day and if I’m being honest I’m getting discouraged, I’m have a hard time just doing the inputs. I’m going to try my best because I love the characters in the game:
KOF noob here. How the heck do I set it to 1v1? I think having a team is cool and all, but I'd like to focus on getting good with one character at a time. So far my team is Angel, Isla, and Dinosaur. I'm interested in a few others characters too, but I would like to focus on Angel right now. Also, crazy they decided no 2K resolution for Steam.
My biggest issue is how accurate you have to put in the inputs, it's frustrating but I want to get into KoF. So used to NRS games, SF and DBFZ. Need something new 😤
I haven’t played KOF since 13, it seemed like it was going downhill. I saw Combo Breaker for 15 and figured I’ll give it a shot.
started with 14 and then dropped to go back to mkx. Hopefully I have more success with this game.
