    Ok time to dispel the myth of KoF being "too hard". That was basically invented by a bunch of clickbaiters overblowing kof 13 trials which were intended to be challenges, and not actual in-game practical combos you'd wanna use. KoF isn't that bad, and thanks to the magic of the BUTTON HOLD TRICK you can make things even easier than they are! So lets go over some examples on what this is about and help show that KoF isn't that scary of a game! Spare a like if you could! More likes = more people see the video, and I feel like people really need to see a video like this to understand KoF isn't that hard at all

      I’m still confused I’ve got a PlayStation controller so I would hold the buttons and move the analog stick in the direction for the combo but like how do you tell which frame to do it on and how do you actually count the frames

    • @AirLancer
      @AirLancer 2 года назад +17

      @@jackratscratpack9323 The first mistake is using the analog stick. It's extremely difficult to move an analog stick with the sort of precision and speed you'd need, which is why most pad players use d-pad.
      Second, you don't hold the button then do your motion. You just do motions like normal, and instead of tapping the button to get a special to come out, you press and hold the button until it comes out instead. When you do this the game will buffer the special input for a short time so you don't have to time links or juggles involving specials/supers with just-frame accuracy.
      Third, nobody counts frames in a match. That's impossible. You just develop a feeling for the timing through practice.

      Not sure in XV (PC player here) but in previous version this works too with input directions which was specially useful with grabbers. Like this:
      Pick Shermie. Do Forward - Forward (running) - Half Circle Forward and hold Forward until you are in range and then press Punch. The grab command would activate.

      Man, thank you so much for these tips and tricks, rooflemonger.
      I've been fan of KOF since KOF 2000 but I'm still suck at doing combos for some characters. They're hard to be done since the timing is so tight and fast while trying to pull the full inputs which always makes me frustrated.
      I even thought that SNK is insane by giving inhumane inputs that almost everyone couldn't do lol. I didn't know about these tricks before and I get it now the reason why FG influencers could pull crazy combos with tight and fast timing easily... 😁

      the timing is important if you turtle in KOF. if you rush down, then you need to learn shortcut movements, or learn to read your opponent and predict what they might try to do. the best thing to learn is hit confirmed to make them scared to run in on you. just work on your reaction time, blocking, dodging and combo muscle memory. KOF is not difficult once you learn the defense mechanism. if you dont have decent defense and prediction in kof, then you will get eaten alive against someone like me that rushes down and apply super saiyan pressure to catfish a combo. 🤣 it gets fun. KOF is so lit. i recommend trying Robert, King, and Benjimaru. it is a good balance for new beginners. dont be afraid to spend time in the lab to learn good strategy. KOF is such a blast, winning or losing

    Man, this story fits me perfect. When KoF14 was about to be released, I bought KoF13 (first KoF but not first fighting game) and when I was in practice mode, I already noticed the strict timings and I was worried about me ever getting "good".
    When I played trails for about 2-3 hours, I was so frustrated, turned the game off and never touched it again nor bought KoF14.
    So this Video will most likely give KoF15 for me a new chance.

    As I practiced some basic combos in KoF '98 UM and '02 UM, I noticed that they had a hold buffer as well, but I never did them on purpose, so I accidentally performed the wrong moves when I wanted to do command normals, lol! But I'll definitely have to practice using them to my advantage to save me the trouble of their otherwise strict timing!
    Now, I actually learned about the input buffer techniques shown later in this vid as well, and they helped me A TON when I was doing Maxima's KoF13 combo trials! They also helped me execute Heidern's Moon Slasher into his supers which would've been tricky otherwise with how his motions worked; as such, I would, for example, hold down, then Tiger Knee back to do the Moon Slasher while buffering the qcb part of his qcb+hcf motion of his super. Even then I have to be fast with that technique, so I gotta practice it some more when I play Heidern in KoF15!
    One last thing, I really liked the "KoF Trials killed my family" thumbnail you made! That really cracked me up! XD

    i already kind of figured out the button hold thing on my own which has helped me a lot cause i'm used to mostly playing anime games where everything just kinda comes out without much timing required. this video definitely helped explain it to me in a way where i can use it more effectively though, thanks :3

    I'm not sure if i totally get it. So do you like hold the punch button during the whole combo or is it a series of timed holds?

  • @guidomista5
    @guidomista5 2 года назад +2

    Very useful trick I gotta say, and even the 5 bars raw max mode tod combos you see many people doing online at the end of the day are still basic combo structure into 3 supers, now that i think about it it's actually pretty easy to read the game as well

    I have to ask since I have seen many videos talking about the button hold, but there is a detail that is overlooked that I would like to know. When you are holding down the button, are you letting go of the button to trigger the attack you want, or are you always holding down the button, and the attack triggers while the button is still held down?

    I never knew about this trick when playing KoF games before and damn. I’m very thankful for knowing it now. Trying to cancel supers into supers always frustrated me because the cancel window isn’t always intuitive, but apparently I can just do the motion and it’ll get there when it gets there. Nice.

      clickbaiters created an atmosphere that basically totally f'ed up peoples conceptions of what KoF is. KoF has some quirks but its difficulty is way overblown.

    • @Stroggoii

      You can play the old ones for free on MAME or fightcade and see if you like it. The core of the game doesn't change as much from game to game as Street Fighter or MK.
      XV has quality of life improvements like these and better input buffers designed to work with modern controllers as well so if you like KoF 2002 you'll likely love XV.

    I forget exactly when it started, but the button hold buffer has been in KoF for a LONG time. Blazblue has a similar system with a shorter repeating window, but it works on all command normals as well as specials.
