    Another reason that max mode is a good 'comeback' mechanism is that you earn it. A common situation is someone has more life and the other has more meters. Many like to spend meters as soon as they get a chance to get advantages and others like to save it for the big damage. It is more like strategy stuff than a comeback mechanism in other fighting games.

    • @Auster9376
      @Auster9376 2 года назад +5

      I hate comeback mechanics in most fighting games. SF4 Ultra combos, and Rage in Tekken for example just feel cheap and never feels like you've earned it. I like how its handled in KOF because it still requires skill to do.

      @@Auster9376 true, i've seen some situation where combo drops from quick max mode activation. the mental pressure to land the combo is also high especially on anchor vs anchor. one mistake on spending max/quick max can cost a match. landing it on enemy on that situation is indeed feel rewarded.

  • @MadSnake123
    @MadSnake123 2 года назад +9

    Just wanted to add something. It is a great comeback mechanic because as nice as it looks on paper ... you will not always going to have 3+ bars when you reach your last character, more often than not, you will be spending bars in previous rounds with EX moves (they are useful outside Quick Mode as defensive tools or combo extenders), Alpha Counters or with indeed, Quick Mode ... So there's the catch ... you either save bars for your potential last round or you spend it ... not spending any bars means that you need to learn to play characters with "normal" combos and you need to be very efficient with your anchors ... at the same time, you will need to step up your defense since any hit can be potentially deadly. So yeah, interesting dynamic.

    • @ReeceHoward06

      That's the beauty of this game! And learning how to play conservative with your meter is so rewarding. The cherry on top is that the meter combos are accessible to beginners if they take an hour to learn how to get that damage.

      Ya I’m glad he’s loving it. I heard KOF is super tough and I fell out of playing traditional fighters years ago (street fighter my most played but never KOF). So being rusty on inputs and hearing how tough it is had me worried. But it’s actually very forgiving with tricks if you research a bit.
      Stuff like holding the button a bit early instead of timing it perfectly in combos and the game throw out the move as soon as it’s possible. Also knowing shortcuts on super inputs when canceling from a special makes it sooo much easier to chain them. For example if you need to do a DP into a super that requires 2 quarter circles forward you only actually need to do 1 quarter circle since the DP already gave you your 1st input. The you start look at the inputs for characters and see where stuff overlaps to make it faster. Still got a lot to learn but man haven’t had this much fun in. A fighting game forever and I was never really one to do much training but I’m hooked.
      Terry in smash reminded me KOF existed and he was fun so I kept an eye out itching to jump back into a fighter and I love KOF15 art style and the characters look cool and have unique styles. Above all it’s fun and that’s what is important. Enjoy if you get it!

    Quick thing I learned in KoF15 the other day about Versus Match in offline mode. After you fight the CPU and click 'Fight Again', the game will generate 3 new people to fight against! Been a great way for me to practice offline while getting exposed to the roster's move set. I usually run story mode in fighting games to see what the rest of the cast can do, but this is a great way to power through that while practicing.
    I'm sure this wasn't uncommon knowledge, but thought it was a really cool feature the devs put in to help people practice. Cheers doods!

    • @XernuhtZwei
      @XernuhtZwei 2 года назад +2

      The classic KOF team composition is a Point character with good meter gain and/or meterless combos, a Mid who can use a bit of meter to not have you fully capped and wasting potential meter gain, and an Anchor who can spend it all to close out the fight.
      In 14, I used Vanessa as my Point, Rock or K' as my Mid, and King as my Anchor, and I think they all (minus Rock for now) still hold up in those places, though I think Vanessa can also work well in Mid and K' as Anchor in 15.

    This is how I play
    Player 1 using EX only, when I am almost dead and my opponent is full dont even think about spending bar because he may end up recovering most of his life bar
    Player 2 start using ex with Supers
    Player 3 use max mode into level 1 and Climax

    I'm really glad this guide exists. coming from mostly Arcsys games my whole life, playing a legacy ass fighting game is super jarring and weird.

    yeah the 2 big things for me to get used to doing is command normals & actually using Quick Max. Also just getting the new member of my team down because oh man did I feel corner pressure when forgetting Isla has a kick shoryuken & new character with no legacy moveset to base knowledge off of.

    So I can do command normal > EX move > Super cancel as an example for a nice combo?

    Is it me Or am I thinking Terry says “BUSTER IGNITION” when he’s performing his level 3
    Edit: I researched it and it’s actually called “Stardust Ignition” but Somehow I’M only hearing the 1st word as Buster.

    I'll have to keep that in mind. I have a bad habit of throwing out EXs to open people up, so I never build up enough meter to do cool half the time.

    I miss special to special cancels like we have in 02, but for sure is more easy with the autorun + super into lv3, i just wish we can have both and decide on the fly xD
