    This video has all the hallmarks of Jackman excellence: awesome project and build, fantastic editing, great soundtrack, magic clamp removal, Jackman clones, power carving, whimsical humor, uncomfortable eye contact, current status... All it's missing is a surreptitious fart, but the gratuitous butt shot made up for it.
    I follwed the adventure on IG, but somehow, this made it look like there were even more fillets to deal with. Not to mention an ungodly amount of epoxy.
    All in all, it was a super fun build and loved seeing it all come together here. Thanks for sharing!

    Amazing. I wish those kits were available when I was younger and still working. I had the money to buy one, then, and the energy to build it. A military wood hobby shop would have had the tools available. I have the time, now, at 76, but not the energy to build, or the money to pay for a completed one - and with the downsizing of the military in the 1990's, all the wood hobby shops have closed.

    Really nice. There's a thing called a CARLA Cargo. Battery powered trailer and could be towed by an e-bike. I think this design could be adapted to fit on that. Might have to build it out of PVC pipe for bones and foam board with glass & epoxy for skin. I'd have to experiment, but I think it could be strong enough to do the job. The CARLA can only accommodate 200kg (440lbs) and you'd need some of that weight to be cargo (food, water, battery, charging), so making the camper as light as possible is a must. The overall shape of this wooden one is spot on, though. Build it out over the wheels onto the fenders and I bet you'd get to a trimmer version of this one.

    • @JackmanWorks
      @JackmanWorks  Год назад +1

      Ohhhh that's super cool!! I actually talked with CLC about a one person version of the camper, like something that could be towed behind a motorcycle. A battery powered single person camper would be pretty sweet, especially something with an aero shape like this. I'd love a little cargo trailer for my bike for grocery trips or things like that.

Shell interior is about 7x3x4. Plenty of room to sit up. Not really enough room for more than one to sleep though. Mine weighs only about 80lbs "dry"...but it is only ever gonna see 15ish KPH. I do plan to take it on trails though so I hope it holds up.

    Paul, I am just blown away with your techniques and craftsmanship. Most people would not see the pliers that you used to twist the copper wires. I know them from the aircraft industry, however I also wondered why you did not use zip ties instead? They sure can save on skin tears!
    I have a fondness for the teardrop trailer design and have a copies of the original and the updated trailer out of the Popular Mechanics magazine (cira 1950s) and have had my own ideas of revisions, it I was to ever build one.
    I like the laminated fenders! beautiful but why glue the steel ones underneath? Would a layer of carbon fiber be better?
    Storage! What a simple concept, I had done much the same in our pickup box when we camped across Canada several years ago, but your idea under the teardrop is in another level of accomplishments.
    French cleats - are just another standout idea suitable for a travel trailer.
    When it comes to filleting epoxy joints, a small ship builder recommended using billiard ball on a stick to make those corner joints. I tried something like that but could not find billiard balls in second hand stores, so I used a standard or semi miniature incandescent light bulb!
    Cheers!

    Watching this brought it all back. We will never sell our CLC Teardrop. The only downside is that you have to plan extra time every where you take it to chat up all the folks who are absolutely knocked out by it.

      Alice, I know exactly what you are talking about. I own a fiberglass tent trailer and boat and I get chatted up everywhere! Mine has the boat as the top of trailer and at the campsite the top comes off and we erect the tent bows and comer to the amazement of the other campers. The original design was developed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in the early 60s and I found mine in the early 80s' and will not part with it ever! It is called a Nomad and there are several modified versions to be found on the internet.
