@@SofaKingDumbSry True - that makes sense. Not sure how big a market there is for such an article, but hopefully folks appreciate the staggering work that goes into making something so complex and beautiful. I'm a woodworker (hobbyist) and years ago made an Australian Red Cedar cot for my first-born. It had 88 hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, bookmatched panels etc. and was hand sanded to 2000, finished with coats of Danish Oil etc. In all modesty, it was (and still is) a stunning piece - at least by my standards. I have never watched a full build from start to finish of anything on RUclips before. This had me absolutely enthralled throughout the process! What an incredibly beautiful piece of bespoke craftsmanship. I am in awe!
It's not the full build, there are about 200 things he is doing off camera. Some of them easy with enough knowledge, Most of them hard even with knowledge, and all of them meticulously boring to watch. This kayak is the culmination of hundreds of hours of work thousands of hours of knowledge and thousands of dollars worth of tools.
I barely have enough patience to sit through this whole video.... I can't imagine how much patience it takes to do all that work.... You have a very special talent
That's truly a work of art. I used to watch my dad repair and refinish bass boats when I was just a young girl in the 1970's. He used vinyl pinstriping to make his own professional-looking designs beneath fiberglass finishes. I would always help at the end by polishing all the brass fittings on the live wells and rails, etc. Good times!

Wow you're crazy buddy. Those thin strips of veneer shavings plus ironing and applying glue on each of them? Speechless dude your patience is on another level
2nd time watching this build and I'm still in awe! Not only is it a beautiful kayak, but it shows your skill, imagination, attention to detail, perseverance, and inventive nature. The deck makes not just a statement, but a complete essay on the quality of the project and your entire approach to this and any other build you choose to endeavor. I was particularly impressed by the extensive fiberglass process that you were able to do ALONE! That would normally require at least two persons. PLUS, you said it was your first fiberglass effort! Great job.
Absolutely beautiful. You're a huge inspiration for me Pask and I can only hope to have projects like this of my own. Thank you for putting so much time and effort into sharing your craft.
Neil, I'm speechless. Thank you for sharing this with us. This is so far the most beautiful and I'd say the most difficult thing of beauty you have created. Some special few are achieving your master level after making countless attempts over the years of their lives. You seem to produce highest level creations one after another. You truly are the master craftsman! Also, I burst into a joyful grin when all was done and you took it to the lake :o)
Amazing job on the kayak. Thanks for sharing. Regarding your personal protective equipment - the P100 filter you're using is for particles only, not vapor. I don't know the resin or have its safety data sheet (SDS), but I assume you want a vapor cartridge to protect against volatile organic chemicals (VOCs). If you call 3M, they will point you in the right direction. Regarding the varnish, read the SDS and make sure the grit is not a peroxidizable organic compound (POC); POCs are shock sensitive. Thanks again for this vid; you do amazing work.
For veneering stuff, you should get (second hand) one of those high end irons that are about 7 cm long. They're small enough that you can use them for stuff like this without messing up the other work you're doing, and the platen part of the machine is a solid piece of stainless (unlike normal irons where it's a sheet that's bent around the core), which allows you to custom shape the nose. source: I've seen a few wood workers do this.
aserta, I think your talking about finishing irons used in model aircraft building. The larger ones head ( part that gets hot ) is about 2” or 50 mm by 3 1/2” or 80 mm and shaped similar to a clothes iron. Also one can put a cloth sock made just for the iron to give it a soft non-marring face/surface. The other is a trim iron, looks like a soldering iron except the tip. The tip looks like an mini cloths iron about 1/4 “ or 8mm by 1” or 25mm long. Both of them get hotter than a cloths iron and both are adjustable for the desired heat setting.
Fantastic build! The deck is mesmerizing. I would guess that the extra resin in between the strips adds a bit of weight to the boat but it's worth it - it looks amazing.
That’s an absolutely amazing piece of art. As a kayaker and woodworker, I’m envious, and have gotten curious, but I don’t know that I have the patience to pull off this kind of project. Well done for sure.
I'm taking Marine Manufacturing right now my junior year in HS, this puts into perspective what my class will be working on this year (once the actual wood arrives to cut into strips) I can't wait to see how ours turns out, though I sadly doubt it will be anywhere near the quality of yours because out of the maybe 25 in my class, only 5 students, including me, seem to take the class seriously.
When I was 15 years old, I started building a fiberglass kayak and made it as far the forms, which were very similar to yours. Later in life, I worked as a cabinet maker. Always wanted to have a go at inlaid patterns. But throughout my 70 years, I have never dreamed of tackling a project this complicated, detailed, and beautiful. It reminded me of the old traditional wooden rowing shells of Cambridge.vs Oxford. Reckon this beautifully refined work of art is a hybrid Native American kayak/English rowing shell. The entire process is fascinating to watch. Great editing. Thank you for sharing.
As ever Mr Paskin, absolutely beautiful work. The patience you must have is incredible but so worth it in the end. As an ex paddler of generic plastic boats it must feel like nothing else to be out on the water in a piece of art such as this, created by your own hand and on such a stunning morning and setting. Thank you for sharing and inspiring, extremely well done and good luck for the future. Happy paddling sir!
Ive been working with wood and veneers for 40 plus years. It WILL TEST YOUR PATIENCE. You Sir are a Masterclass Woodworker. I am very impressed. Its refreshing seeing a video of a true Craftsman and not a hack from some video of a man building a table with no glue and only held by brads. Beautiful work sir.
They make tiny little irons, basically a little iron head on a soldering iron, often used for intricate swing projects, like doll clothes, but would probably be perfect for the veneer kumiko if you ever do it again. "Clover MCI-900 Mini Iron"

Good lord that's beautiful & so much time, effort and attention to detail. No idea how you did this. Anything tedious, soldering for example, I begin to sweat and get frustrated. Your patience is just inspiring.
Who knew there was ironing in woodworking! Ironing PVA glue was genius! I’m going to use that idea sometime! You are incredibly patient, and an amazing woodworker!

Some special few are achieving your master level after making countless attempts over the years of their lives. You seem to produce highest level creations one after another. You truly are the master craftsman!
Also, I burst into a joyful grin when all was done and you took it to the lake :o)
Thanks very much Jaromir! It was pretty special project and a lot of fun. Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
The sheer amount of effort you put in and the patience you have is absolutely unhuman.
A supporter on Patreon told me about them as I started the kumiko. I looked but couldn’t find one locally. It would’ve been perfect though. 😊
Fantastic build! The deck is mesmerizing. I would guess that the extra resin in between the strips adds a bit of weight to the boat but it's worth it - it looks amazing.
This is the most insane woodwork I've seen on this platform, and I've seen A LOT!
That is amazing, absolutely beautiful. You have incredible skills and patience, great video and kayak thanks for making the video.
may God bless and keep ytou
That’s an absolutely amazing piece of art.
As a kayaker and woodworker, I’m envious, and have gotten curious, but I don’t know that I have the patience to pull off this kind of project.
Well done for sure.
There is no way i would have waited till next day to put it in the water. You sir are a man of will power
Stunning, this is a project that’s been on my bucket list for years, one day I’ll get round to it ;)
I'm taking Marine Manufacturing right now my junior year in HS, this puts into perspective what my class will be working on this year (once the actual wood arrives to cut into strips) I can't wait to see how ours turns out, though I sadly doubt it will be anywhere near the quality of yours because out of the maybe 25 in my class, only 5 students, including me, seem to take the class seriously.
That's quite a specific course for a high school. Is it a course in a wider engineering or wood working department?
Its more a work of ART than a boat, just excellent ; very well done
Just…. Wow…. Incredible!!!! Beautiful piece and such patience. Well done!
They make tiny little irons, basically a little iron head on a soldering iron, often used for intricate swing projects, like doll clothes, but would probably be perfect for the veneer kumiko if you ever do it again. "Clover MCI-900 Mini Iron"
That is legit one of the cutest pieces of hardware I've ever seen. I wanna see Tiny Kitchen ( ruclips.net/user/tinykitchentm ) make a grilled cheese with it.
It was pointed out to me after I’d started by a supporter on patreon. I couldn’t find one locally though. 😊
@@PaskMakes Darn, I wondered about that. Well, maybe you could make one!
I admire you not only for your tremendous skills, but also for your infinite patience
just stumbled on this build. truly beautiful!! congrats!!!!
Beautiful work! Loved the kumiko decorations, everything in this is a work of art. Great skills, lovely craft!
I was wondering how many hours were invested in this piece? Looks like a lot of work.... 🙃
Thanks a lot for this, keep doing more like this one!
The lessons packed into this one video are hard to find on entire woodworking courses.
Leonardo DaVinci of Kayaks!!! What a piece of art!!!
Absolutely beautiful. Your Kumiko deck is a stroke of genius!
Добрый день. Работа великолепная, которая потребовала большого терпения и знаний!!! 👍👍👍
Thanks very much! 😊
@@PaskMakes ждём новых видео с интересными проектами🤝👍
Wow.. Just Wow. It's a floating Persian Carpet. Unbelievable detail and, genuinely, a work of art.
amazing work of art. I would be afraid to use it, in fear of scratching the surface.
Just about upto our usual standards.
You absolutely enthralled me for 46 straight minutes - what an aboluste masterpiece! The lines on her are just stunning, and the kumiko takes it to another level. Bravo, what patience, attention to detail, and pure craftsmanship.
Wow. Mate you are a very talented man. What a piece of art .
Don't even know why I am here other than to say this is beautiful! Wish I lived in an area that was pleasant to kayak in.
OMG! What a legend. Watching you start on the veneers was awe-inspiring and the finished effect is jaw-dropping. An absolutely beautiful result. Hats off!
You are incredibly patient, and an amazing woodworker!
looks like a museum piece.. too nice to put in the water..LOL fantastic work.
I'm a wood worker and cabinet maker. I thought the skills I have were good and that I'm at a relatively good skill level of craftsmanship, producing quality projects. After watching this video of you making this kayak, makes me feel like I'm at a kindergarten skill level. Watching the patience and skills you have is very humbling to say the least. Words can't describe the admiration in your work and skills. "Good Job" hardly even comes close.
I shed a tear for this absolute masterpiece. Splendid craftsmanship and thank you for sharing this with us.
It looks like something that goes into a 100 million yacht for leisure paddling time (but never actually gets used).
Crazy quality craft!
I randomly found this video, and I am immensely impressed with your craftmanship and patience for detail. Those are my favorite things to see on YT.
