My brothers and I built a sailboat with our mom in the 70s. It was heavy and dangerous. Fun memories though. She passed away earlier this month. RIP.

They are both works of art! Love that you used the reclaimed wood from the porch. I think your next challenge should be adding a sail to them! Outriggers, a rudder and tiller. 😁

My brother got me into boat building. Started with an 8’ dingy, and now we are on the back stretch of building a 14’ nesting sailing tender for his sail boat. It truly is a test of tenacity to finish these projects! Great work sir!

Saw t Canoe build a while ago, loved it, now this 17 ft. skiff mage from your old > salvaged/saved < front porch DougFir. Great shape & tons & tons of hours invested in this skiff project. Always great lighting, splice editing, close-up of tools, big band saw, table saw, sanders... & chemicals/epoxies/finishes. Also could see gradual transformation of interior of yur big wood working shop from Canoe to Skiff video via background items. So much enjoyed this selected FF & Voice over production method..think it fits the YT audience like me..78 yrs, retired (background: USAF Radar ATC, oil field downhole tools & now active handy man). Kinda anxious to see status of your Cemetery house Re-structure/Remodel. That is a major project...I think easier than this Skiff build !🎉

In 1985 I helped my dad put a cabin on a 21' Lake Superior fishing skiff. It's now in a museum in my home town. Great memories building that with my dad. Thanks for sharing your builds Jimmy D.

I would have recommended doing shiplap jointing, but since it's a boat and you had directions and even finished it instead of giving it up to a fire, I guess you're good to go. 😂Beautiful work. 👍

I have that exact same rasp. It’s friggin great. Rough shaped a tomahawk handle with it. Chewed through wood like it was grating cheese.
good to see that you think about waste when making templates, that bourbon moth dude would spend like 3 sheets of birch to get that right and scrapping it afterwards
Great build Jimmy. I think you agree with me that the scarf joints on those long strips could’ve been made longer so there’s more face-to-face area for the glue to grab better

Very cool. The part on the deck you call a wind screen is actually to deflect any water that may come over the bow off to the sides. Boats for white water have tall ones... sometimes curved, sometimes V shaped.
