There is an imposter in the comments. Please ignore and report. There is no contest or prizes ❤😤
we know it wasnt you, you didnt stencil DIRESTA on it in 400 pt font like 8 times
FYI, Shinto SR-30 to avoid the banged knuckles.
Those imposters appears on probably every channel. Mark Rober, Laura Kampf, OffTheRanch, Matt Cremona, the list goes on. I report 'em, and about 1/2 the time, they get removed.
They will just make me accounts
A mi me contactaron, logré salir a tiempo..
The author does like to ruclips.net/user/postUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.
Dont let not having the "proper" machinery slow you down. All of this can be done by hand or call your local cabinet shop and ask if they can do a run for you to make your planks the all the same size.

A beautiful boat build AND a voice over!? Definitely a perfect Christmas weekend video!
If you become a member on patreon, he does voice overs often.
Persistence is the key for sure.
I got the sense of this during one of Jimmy's IG stories. A short and silent clip of Jimmy using Tony's plane. No talking, nothing sped up, just the scraping sounds. An effort of leveling the entire surface of the boat bottom, one sliver of wood per hand stroke.
It dawned on me that Jimmy makes it look fast and easy in his YT videos. The sped up clips, the quick cuts, the frequent videos. Jimmy's the master blaster. But in reality, Jimmy's super power is persistence. The dogged determination to keep moving forward.
You don't get to be the Godfather by sitting on the couch. ❤️❤️❤️
I can't wait for the first time that boat hits water it will be beautiful. Thanks for the holiday gift of this great video!
I truly don’t know how you do it. Amazing work. Thank you for sharing.
It's so refreshing to hear someone talk about their mistakes, the things that bothered them, the frustrations with progress, etc. Especially from someone as gifted and learned as you. So often these types of videos make it look like its so easy and it came together without issue.
Thank you!
As always Jimmy, i'm thankful and grateful !
Merry Christmas and happy Hanukkah.
I just bought a pair of Carolina boots. First new set of boots I've owned in 40 years. Fantastic.
You always say, "Learn on the first one." Both boats look perfect to me. Damn, thats beautiful!! 🔥
Jimmy, thanks for the reminder on being dedicated to long term projects. I've got a '65 VW bug that was flooded in hurricane Harvey. The restoration is about 75-80% complete, but I've let it go too long without working on it. I love the car, and it deserves to run again. So, thanks for the reminder.
And beautiful work, by the way.
DiResta reminds me so much of my new yorker friend that passed away from a traffic accident years ago. he was like if new york become a single person and started playing World of Warcraft lol. i miss telling him that Phoenix was bigger than NYC and watching his brain melt as he went nuts explaining how wrong i was. RIP in pepperonis, Carmack!
I wish you and your family Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Greetings from germany.
I play your channel in my shop, I caught myself stopping grabbing a seat, putting off what I'm doing and enjoying watching your videos, lol but yes always finish what you start!!! Great video as usual #2023
Jimmy you are an inspiration to all us fellow makers!
Steve Killing has a rich history. From a 12M to your little skiff. Steve has been around for a long time. Great architect!
I appreciate how you continually emphasize the challenges and hard work that went into the build and the persistence it requires to finish it correctly without coming across like a braggart like it was no big deal. It's this humble but inspiring attitude that demonstrates how great of a mentor, as well as a maker, you really are.
You've been important since Fleas , never missed anything you produced.
It's been wonderful
Thank you for being there and all you've done to educate us.
Wow thank you 🙏🏼🎄❤️
I must say thats a beautiful little boat, well done for sticking with it and a very very well done for using the old wood to give it the lovely character that new wood just wouldn't have done.
That Craftsman speech was so harsh and so true! They used to be so much better. Great boat Jimmy! Love your videos!
10 years of watching here. You are one of my literal hero’s. Thanks for everything you have posted.
Just taking a break away from the festive-tech-support duties of a son visiting his parents. Thought I'd enjoy the first part of this gorgeous boat build!
Thanks Jimmy, and happy hols to you and yours! 💜🤍
🎄
In English work and continued here in Australia, Traditionally the keel is level from 2/3 boat length to the transom. Your fishtail will probably get damaged in use if not careful. There is a lot of work in strip planking. More than people realise. That's why amateurs get disillusioned. They are under the impression it is easy until the sanding starts. That dinghy should row well being skinny. Nice job Jimmy. Next you have to try clinker! That will test you, but a boat that size should take 120 hours. I have built dozens so have a bit of experience! See thumbnail. Merry Christmas everyone! Jimmy you would like the Australian woodenboat festival held in Hobart in February. I wish people gave me free stuff, maybe I should make a video!
Jimmy I love your narrations, Your explainantions of processes and and reasons are awesome.
Thanks for the gift. Wonderful hearing your calm commentary as you masterfully solve problems. Merry Christmas!
Glad to see your back to what made your channel grow
Lovely work and workshop!
I can’t even begin to tell you how much this has inspired me.
Thanks for another enjoyable video for me to watch over Christmas. Merry Christmas
You make everything so approachable and boat building is no different. Thanks for sharing the journey Jimmy. You keep poasting, we'll keep watching.
I couldn’t love this anymore… between the project and the voiceover… a Christmas gift indeed!
Excellent start. Can’t wait to see her finished.
It was a pleasure spending Christmas with you, thanks for everything Jimmy!
That was the most satisfying video I have seen in a long time. You are a true craftsman. Thank you!
Looks awesome! I liked the commentary.
I'm reminded and sad that my late father never got to fulfil his dream of building his own dingy.
Still my favorite "maker"! Thank you for projects like this. Beautiful!
12/26/22. Yes! The 'Porch Floor Boat'!! Jimmy, what a ton of work! May to December, 7 months, wow! You have commitment! The boat is beautiful! Love watching you use your well equipped shop, tools, camera lighting, close up shots & voice-over technique to present this build/educational project to we YT viewers! Thx for all your efforts for this particular episode, but also for all other videos during 2022. Great content for we tool loving, wood/weld project enthusiasts. A+ Jimmy! So stay safe & carry on! 👍👍👍🛠🪚🎅🍷😊
Nice to see it all come together after many months of instagram stories. Looks great. Nick Offerman, time for you to step up and build the sister boat!
I built a similar sized rowing boat with sliding seats between 2019-20, this brought back some happy build memories but I seem to have forgotten the hours and hours of sanding. Abranet saved me a lot of sanding time on the epoxy when it was all I could get during covid lockdown. That Shinto sawfile is a great piece of kit and certainly lives up to its name as the wood eraser. There is a side handled version as well.
That's seriously impressive. I'm amazed you stuck with it. A great motto to live by 'Finish what you start'
Algorithm good in the UK! Liked as per usual to help. Thanks for my down time entertainment Big D always a pleasure! Ian UK
Beautiful boat. Great way to reuse old wood. So much work with the glue and handplane 😀
Thank you for posting this video. Your work and your commentary are amazing!
Coming along nicely. I like the look of the reclaimed wood. You will absolutely want to glass the transom and wrap it around to the outside of the hull. It adds a lot of durability, protecting the endgrain of the strips.
Also a nice variation on the RoboBevel for trimming the strip edges.
What is the best thing one person can do for another?
Inspire them, and that is what you have done here and with a lot of your other builds Jimmy.
Thanks man!!
I'm always impressed with your persistence Jimmy . Its beautiful
Certainly a patient woodworker
For the record the tool is a Shinto rasp planer. It's been on my list for a while. I don't know if anyone else mentioned it. There were too many comments to sift through LOL
Awesome build Jimmy 🥃
Looks great! That's a nice size boat for rowing 1-2, and it doesn't weigh a ton. Very nice shape. Thanks for sharing CAROLINA's build!
That clamp on clamp trick is GOLD!
You make it look easy. Well, maybe not easy, but doable. I admire you. Merry Christmas.
Great Build - Really Enjoyed! I think boat building is woodworking "un"-squared x 10 + art. Kudos to anyone with the skills and patience to pull this off.
Great build! I am midway through my own Bear Mountain cedar strip canoe. I finished glassing the interior in October, and I know exactly what you mean by perseverance! Mine’s in my garage and winter has hit hard, so I had to store it away until the spring. It’s great to follow along with your boat build, and remember my own. I was so proud when I fit my “whiskey plank”. I didn’t have a glass of whiskey at the time, so I think I will now. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your build! Cheers!
Thank you for a very informative and entertaining video about a classic craft you don't see anymore. My grandfather had a georgous wood speed boat that we used to enjoy as kids in the 60's. Reminded me of happy times. Merry Christmas.
Damn that’s a lot of work, I’m sure Jethro Gibbs would approve!
Grocery Store belt sander...I own one!!!! Everytime I use it I tell myself it's the last time. Arguably the worst tool Craftsman ever produced! The dedication, determination and plain old physical labor involved in this project is impressive! You always amaze my by making things look so easy! Such a great project. Merry Christmas to you and Taylor (and the whole DiResta family) Jimmy!
Merry Christmas, brother! This video was a gift to all of us, and inspiration to finish what we started. I kid you not, I just finished a huge end grain cutting board I started over 2 years ago😅 😂
Just beautiful Jimmy …..love it❤ we will always be here for whatever you’re doing👍
Man I finally finished part 1. The reveal when you flipped the boat over m the end.... Blew my mind how awesome that raw deck wood looked. Can’t wait to watch part two. 😀😀
It's coming along nicely Jimmy
"It's so easy to walk away from this project, I'm telling you"
Glad you didn't, Jimmy! What a project! What a piece of art! Kudos for building it!!!
Merry Christmas, Jimmy. Hope you stay warm during it! Great build as always. Glad you have finally had time to work on the boat and start releasing videos.
an absolute gem of a video. the voice over just works. Great project. looking forward to pt. 2
Louis Sauzedde will be proud of you 😁. One of my favorite youtubers, you actually send me to his channel some time ago. Thank you for the long narrated video. Merry Christmas Jimmy!
Thank you, Jimmy. And Joe, too. Good looking boat.
Beautiful boat! I can't wait to see it finished. Someday I'll make a canoe.
I love my Carolina boots. Beautiful craftmanship
The Craftsman sander comment 🤣 is so true! Amazing boat Jimmy!
What a wonderful surprise to wake up to for Boxing day! Great craftsmanship and videography as always. Thanks Jimmy for your continued inspiration.
That is a beautiful boat awesome you could use that reclaimed lumber Great video Jimmy.
My house was built in 1967 and came with Douglas Fir old growth 1x4 decking that needed replacing. Like DiResta, I kept the pulled off boards. They have been handy for 22 years.
Who else but Diresta wakes up in the morning and says, "I think I will build a boat" Happy New Year Jimmy and thank for the great content!
Merry Christmas to you and yours Jimmy. Thank you for the gift of watching your videos year after year.
This was literally something I was looking forward to, based on the podcast, so a great Christmas gift. Looking forward to attending Makers Camp next year...
Fantastic project, people do not appreciate the dedication it takes to undertake such a project!
An inspiring build of a beautiful little dinghy. Looking forwards to seeing the ribs, gunwales, thwarts etc. going in. Happy 2023 to all.
Ufffff part 2 and the restoration of the motor is going to be super entrusting!! Thanks jimmy !! FELIZ NAVIDAD!! 🎄🎁 much love from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
definitely resonates with me about how you really need to commit to a project like this... I helped build a cedar strip canoe once and really was not prepared for how much time it took.
Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas to all.
Very inspiring. I don't know a lot about boat building but this looks top notch so far. Looking forward to part 2.
I've done several big builds. They really test your metal. It feels great seeing someone put in the effort and show the journey. The big jobs are not for quitters. Great job. Happy Holidays.
Merry Christmas to you too Jimmy. She’s going to be a beauty. Also repurposing the old deck into something so good as a boat is a really nice touch
Jimmy you are a Stick-to-itiveness kinda guy, you never give up on what you do. Beautiful build so far. Merry Christmas to you and yours 🎅 🤶 🧑🎄 🎄 🎁
Merry Christmas Jimmy and thank you for the years of entertainment! 🎄🎄🎄
I had tp pause the video and go buy those boots. They are exactly what I want. Thank you and Carolina Shoe.
Happy birthday, Jesus! Merry Christmas! God bless y'all.
It's so great....seeing you in your dream shop...all the best sir!
Gorgeous!
Love the repurposed wood.
Epic & titanic endeavour, so satisfying 2nd use of materials, each fettled to a perfect fit & all then held tight by the marvellous of chemistry & mesh. So uplifting & inspiring to see the love, energy & care carrying things to a strong, beautiful symmetry. Thank you for creating & sharing!
looks amazing!
100 % dedication for making this boat, very impressive work. I fully understand many fail building a boat from scratch now.. Thanks for all your great videos this year Jimmy and looking forward to more 2023.
Best wishes from Texas 🤠
A Skeg is what the sweep up on the keel is at the stern. In New Zealand, that is. Here we would have a gradual sweep up from midships cos we would consider the situation of pull a boat up on a beach. But if yours is a lake boat going from jetty to jetty then capacity to rest the weight of the boat on the keel and chine is less critical. Great vid as usual. So many thanks.
I feel sorry for your brother, as I grew up on the back side of a table saw. It brought back many sad memories...watching him catch the wood as you pushed it through (the fun part) and stack it to the side, over... and over... and over... 😜
Lovely intermediate stage Jimmy! Looking forward to the next stage around August '23. 😁
Best Christmas Gift! A nice long Diresta build video. (I miss seeing the old shop) Merry Christmas Jimmy, same to your family and don't forget your brother!
This project has been quite the journey already. Been keeping up with the progress on IG, but great to see the continuous process here and get some of your insight with it. I've been watching you since the big Make magazine video dump and I always learn something from you. Thanks for the ride and looking forward to what comes next..
❤thank you!
Yay first part of the boat is done. Merry Christmas to you and your family and a Joyous New Year.
Jimmy, she's a beauty! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and all your folks. You have given me inspiration over the years among others.
Merry Christmas! Thanks for another year of inspiration and creativity! Boat is looking awesome
That's a mighty pretty boat you got there! It only took a few hundred hours of work. You keep making stuff and I'll keep watching. Merry Christmas!!!
