- I never got to enjoy the GBA in its prime. The console came out during a time where I really wasn't playing too many handheld titles. So the GBA kind of went under my radar until way after the console was no longer relevant. I still managed play a lot of the best games the GBA had to offer, but Now almost 20 years later I decided I wanted to deep dive into the console. So I played 30 days straight of only GBA and this is how it went.

What's the next console I should play for 30 days straight?
PSVITA
Ps vita
psp
Vita
GBC but on GBC games
I absolutely adore my micro. I'm mostly a PC player and it met all my console needs. It's just so beautiful and well-crafted that it's hard not to fall in love once you've tried it. Very glad to hear that you were able to salvage yours in the end.
GBA was a day one console for me, actually the first time we ever got a console within its release window. Didn't have any GBA games for it right away so I played Oracle of Ages on it which I had only gotten recently.
The micro is my favorite iteration. I didn't have one when it came out but bought one a few years ago along with a handful of games that I never got the chance to play. Some of my favorites are the Minish Cap, the Legacy of Goku II, Metroid Fusion, Advance Wars, and Banjo Kazooie Grunty's revenge since I think it did a good job of delivering a mini Banjo experience.
Great video, also I would recommend ezflash over the Super card SD, it's a bit more expensive but it doesn't suffer from lag and stutter like the Super card SD does
I got one recently and I agree. It's ALOT better than the Super card.
Can you save games with it?
@@mlgmikey8512 yes
you are making me wanna get a GB micro, I have a GBA but I have always been curious about the micro model. This has really ignited my interest in retro gaming, thank you for this video
This is actually good idea!
used to finished alot of PSP games when I was 7 so I gotta start playing them childhood games again for 30 days.
Awesome GB experiment. I bought a Micro recently. Can't wait to spend more time with it.
In Russia, portable (and home) consoles from Nintendo have never been popular. The only exception was probably the Switch and the "Dendy" consoles, which were a clone of the NES. And most of the Dendy users didn't even know what Nintendo was
I love gba, used to own the original (one without backlight) back in elementary school, but the power switch broke when I go to high school,so I bought a gameboy micro to replace it. Played through a bunch of games on it,Metroid,Metal Slug,Urbs,Castlevania and some fps games. I even played though Doom for the first time on the gba. I've heard SuperCard has slowdown issues and some graphical glitches, but it seems fine in the video.
Got the GB in 97, and the SP in 2003. I still have it too. Works fine, battery still charges. Between Pokemon and FFTA I have all the mobile RPGs I'd ever need. I play them to this today.
Gba did have a lot of great game's especially on Fighting games, run and gun games, 3D games
lol hold up, we're not gonna just pass up the fact that you played Soulcalibur 1, one of the greatest ever on that handheld, mad respect.
I got one about 3 weeks after launch for my 13th birthday. I remember playing it quite a bit and taking it to school with me. But the main thing that I remember is seeing another kid in school with his PSP and being super jealous, unfortunately.. especially the fact that I had already had an GBA and an SP before so yeah. But I did end up getting a PSP about 7 months after that for my 8th grade graduation. So that was awesome. Anyway I got into retro gaming/collecting about a year and a half ago and I finally just scored a Gameboy micro on ebay last night for a good price. Been wanting one for awhile.
Gba on the psp really was awesome. It's why I bought a Psp Go in 2021
7:20 Bro, why didn't you weaken that poochyena before you throw the poke ball! XD
2:08 for some bizarre reason, my brain was expecting him to pull another smaller card from that micro SD.
How was the battery on this thing? I have never had a handheld console except for the game boy advanced and yet the only thing I played on it was Mario and yoshi.
For the month I played the battery was terrible lol. Barely gave me an hour. With the new battery I can get over 2 hours now.
Did you try a different battery brand to get it to work? I love Gameboy Advance games!
It actually turned out to be the power switch itself. A pretty easy repair. Now she's working great.
What was the issue with the GB after all? Great video!
Thank you! It was the actual power switch itself that was faulty. Some messy soldering and it was back running good as new.
@@GameHeadNes reminds me of my sp where sometimes the light will be red when turning it on and the if you mess with it it shuts off on you :(
Golden Sun, Sia, Shining Force and the LOTR games I spent so much time on. But the series that took most of it was Mega Man Zero. Still play this system a few times a week. Just nice to play in small sessions and be satisfied.
dam i actually didnt know that there was a gba shining force remake
@@russiancheems2275 There are 2 games made. Neither Good. But I still had fun with them. So your mileage will vary.
For an even smaller screen try using the Everdrive GBA X5 mini with Goomba Color. Try a gameboy game out on it like Dragon Warrior I&II.
The micro is amazing, the build quality is top notch, but it’s too small for my ogre hands and ever worsening eye sight. I still own two of them though and occasionally play with them.
where did you get the face plate i love the look!!
The dpad on this thing is legendary
I bought my gameboy micro brand new probably ten years ago… still works great. Sorry yours crapped out on you.
Mario and Luigi superstar saga is one of the best rpgs on this thing
I was lucky to find The 25 anniversary Mario edition at my local gamestop back then I think i got a good deal on it because they didnt have a charger for it I still have it
I wish I had a gba micro
Can you do the same but with the ds or 3ds
Do the DS next you wont be disappointed
What was wrong on w/ the GB Micro?
How did you fix the issue ?
It was the actual power switch. It wasn't making contact. Pretty easy fix
Hi there. Great video! Any tips on commitment to school and studying? I'm sure this video took alot of discipline and you mentioned not playing GBA because you prioritized school.
im definitely going to do this challenge
So I did the challenge and honestly I loved it. It was difficult at first and I often found myself deviating at times to watch RUclips or scroll instagram. But as time went on I got hooked to a lot of games and ended up having a great time. I’m a sucker for story based games and despite having flashy fast paced graphics, a lot of the core elements are similar between modern games with very early games. I find that if I play something a little more basic it helps my mind feel less burnt out, yet also makes me a little bored, but that goes hand in hand with dopamine overload that we all face these days.
I highly recommend the challenge to anyone and everyone. Doesn’t matter what the console is, preferably from a previous decade or two though to really go back in time. Thank you for the video and I look forward to seeing your future challenges
What game are you playing at 0:12?
I got 4 words for you.
Astro.
Boy.
Omega.
Factor.
Play it. Thank me later.
How did you actually manage to fix it?
The actual power switch itself was faulty. Replaced it and worked like new.
hmm, might do this with the ds
Just picked up a Micro. Any one know what game is playing at 4:15 ??
Alien hominid
@@GameHeadNes thanks!! Def one to emulate. It's an expensive PAL exclusive
What a struggle
Ok read all the comments and everyone was about Metroid Zelda castlevania megaman zero and of course Mario I’m surprised there are some games no one mentioned that I played and are very fun and everyone will hate me for this but I’m not a Zelda castlevania or a main type of Pokémon person I played Metroid zero mission to death I have megaman zero 3 And 4 but I’m horrible at those types of platformers my bread and butter will always be my most favorite game in a 6 game series mega man battle network 3 pirates of the Caribbean dead man’s chest and Pokémon spin-off mystery dungeon red rescue team hidden gems that I’m surprise people sleep and and don’t get talked all too often about that I’ve seen and it shocks me honestly
I know this is super late, but did you ever repair the micro?
Sure did. It was one of the pins for the power switch. A drop of solder and it was running like new. Easy fix.
Glad to hear it!@@GameHeadNes
you broke the rules 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
game from min 4:14?
Game at 4:15 ?
Ya no the game boy micro is way to small. Reasons why I sold mine and stick to a ags 101
What game is that at 4:17?
Alien Hominid
@@GameHeadNesit looks awesome! Thank you!
What was wrong with your GBM?
power switch not connected lol
You said, I couldn’t wait to turn on your PS5 and play some Nintendo switch! WTF! What don’t you have modded! I can’t even get a PS5.
LOL. I should of spaced out my words better. I meant I couldn't wait to Play PS5 and Play Switch
@@GameHeadNes lol!
Micro with no back light in a cave lit by torch only lolo only sugar n caffeine for 10 years. Alkaline batteries only.
PS5 wasn't even out in 2011
I'd consider this a bust. You used a romcart (part of the charm of these challenges is recreating what it was like to play this as it was back then, which means choosing which carts to bring. If your carts are dirty, clean them), then you used emulation, then emulation again.
It's a shame your Micro died suddenly, and maybe it was the flashcart that did it. Some draw more power than normal cartridges, and that may have caused something to go wrong internally.
I'd suggest trying this again, officially next time.
I came here for this comment lol. I see so many videos like this that say I played xyz only for 30 days and half of it is spent playing on an emulator or on a PC, which complete defeats the purpose. Just say you played gba games for 30 days as you clearly did not play a game boy micro for 30 days
Theyre using the original hardware. Nintendo does not support the older hardware. Therfore emulation is Based
lol pokemon got a whole week.
The super card is complete GARBAGE!!! Some for no Glitching games
Dude I think playing Game Boy (let alone Game Boy Advance) an hour a day should almost be concidered blasphemous. Go out, play Game Boy wherever for hours, come back and then you can call it quits for a day.
