I Reworked My Old Artwork... and other thrifted art | Collage Transformation | REISSUED

  • I'm clearing out my office and I need to "reissue" some old artwork I have on hand! This time, I reinvented two thrifted art pieces and an old canvas that I painted back in high school!
Along the way, I share my thoughts about repeating oneself as an artist, why I covered the eyes in my latest art pieces, and how chance and mistakes can turn into amazing artistic moments.

The thing with art is, not everyone's gonna like it or understand it. As an artist, I go with what I feel inspired by, not what other's think it should be. I've watched countless artists on yt be brought down by viewers who think it should fit their views. Do what you think is right for you because you can't please everyone and it's your space, not ours. I loved your artwork then as I do these new ones. Great eye for art!!

I have many old photographs of family members and it upsets me that they live in a box so you have given me great ideas to bring them back to life so that our loved ones can be remembered much more often. Nobody wants to be forgotten and most of us never want to forget them so this is so perfect. Your explanations of creative choices here are great for enriching the social media space. I did a PhD dissertation on French Surrealism (focusing on the 1920s), so collage and starting with the found object to see where it takes you are interesting to me. Really, the question is for any of us viewers is, what do we see in it? Not so much, what did the creator of the piece intend. This was not a waste of my time on RUclips today, thanks for this! :)

Also, the moving arm comment, that is comical because I am francophone from Quebec and you cannot suppress our hand gestures, it’s an art form and half our conversations don’t require words because of said arm gestures ha ha ha. When you started putting the pattern pieces on the man I thought you were covering his mouth this time as a nod to the one you covered the eyes (yes I commented on that being slightly creepy, but I also said I loved the creepyness! I forget where I read it but something along the line that art is supposed to disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed) , given that his collar looks like he is a reverend. Next in the series his ears covered? Love how the lady on the former seascape turned out, the way the breaking waves became a mountain range dividing the image . . .As for Windows the use of colour on her and the way she over laps onto the frame, perfect. Thank you for addressing the "covering of the eyes." At the time maybe your subconscious was trying to work out what it thought was a lack of 'uncomfortable?' :) Our irrational side usually wants to have a big say in artistic endeavors. 😊

I really like your thrifted art upcycle piece's. The one where her face is bigger on one side maybe call that one split personality. They're all very cool! I can't wait to give it a try.
Oops... hadn't finished the video yet where you named them...lol! I like those names too.

I think the term is called: Representational artwork.Definition: dichotomous in that they present us with two distinct aspects at once. I'm not sure tho! lmao I also share your love of juxtipositional vibes.

Advice is free and worth just as much. That said, it would be great if your exploration of technique and expression was focused on a personal trauma/local historical story that unifies the works, and together forms a work that delves into multiple aspects of an issue that bothers you/has touched your life. A bigger story that is at the same time personal to you and universal. A great inspiration is the work of the stained glass artist Judith Schaechter.
On a separate note, that mustache is excellent.

Personally I've been inspired by old photos with my own art, either recreating them in acrylics or using in a collage. So fun 😊.

It’s riveting for me to watch how you work through the creative process. I often step away, sometimes long periods of time before I’m ready to get the next or final step done. I’m not an artist, just someone who loves to do this in my spare time and it’s reassuring to know that someone like you, who is really talented, has to do the same thing. Also, I don’t always like every piece of art I see, but I don’t have to - it’s created by the artist perspective and I take what I like from it. I always respect what has been created regardless of if I like it or if it doesn’t do it for me. You’re fun to watch and listen to - thanks for the videos👍
