It’s nice to see husky getting some love on the RUclipss. Not everyone needs a 500i and it’s a hell of a saw, but for my use the 562 works for me. Comfortable in the hands, good power, reliable, and not overly heavy.
I've been using a chainsaw since 1974. Not for a living but on and off as needed. I've used every sharpening gadget known to man. I tossed them all and strictly hand file now... no guides, no gadgets. And I follow Buckin' Billy's "Get the Gullet" method. It is far and away the best sharpening method there is. So if you want to go back to sharpening school check out Buckin's videos on how to "Get the Gullet". Probably has a dozen videos. Worth watching at least several of them. Buckin' kinda drives me nuts but the man can flat out sharpen a saw.
They’re all nice saws. Cutting gear makes a difference. Having a local dealer is important when you need something. I just do my own firewood and property work; I have a Stihl MS261c and run an 18” bar and it does all I need it to very well. Huge step up over the 455 Rancher I had before. I haven’t felt the need for a larger saw. I definitely like a lighter weight saw for operator fatigue though.
I had a 562xp and really liked it. Good power for its size and more durable that the 357xp it replaced. Then I left it sitting on a a tailgate and drove off. Lost the saw but found my hard hat and smashed oil jug. Someone found themselves a nice saw. We got a 572xp to replace it. Needed more power and a replacement for dad’s old 288xp. Love the 572 as well.
I have a 592 XP-G and this is a beast. In one of my last videos i cut about 10 cords of poplar with diameters between 24 and 36 inch with a 36"-bar alone in one day. I cut the wood to about 10 inches, this is a standard length here in germany. I love this saw very much...😃
I have a Husky that I bought new 30 years ago. I don't cut much firewood anymore, but used to cut for myself and my father-in-law. Other than replacing the air filter, spark plug, bar and chains the only thing I have done is replace the carb. I hadn't used it in 2 years and when I went to use it, the carb was gummed up from sitting with fuel in it. It has been a good saw, it has always started easily and run well.
Great video Adam. I was a parts guy for almost 45 years. Back in the 1980s I bought a Jonsred 520 SP. I had gone into the shop with the intent of buying a Stihl. The the gal at the shop talked me out of it because of parts availability. She related a story that one of her customers needed a new carburetor for his Stihl. She ordered it. And they sent the wrong one. She said it had taken three months to get it. She re-ordered it again and it was another three months before she got the correct carburetor for her customer. She said with Jonsred, she can have parts the next day. I think they were out of Minnesota. That said, maybe they got a really great deal and discounts from Jonsred and they were buddies if you know what I mean. At any rate, I would probably buy a Husqvarna if I ever have to replace my current saw. It’s still running quite strong.
Hi Jim, I bought a 520sp in 1982 and still use it today as I cut a couple cords a year. 50cc and a great saw that I have only had to replace a coil a few years ago, love the saw
Doug is 100% right. The Stihl 2 in 1 sharpener will take the depth gauge too much for the tooth. Tell Doug to remove the raker file and file the teeth as usual and file the rakers down by hand separately. He will have a much better cutting chain. And by the way i returned one of the Stihl sharpner because of that same reason and got another one. Both sharpeners were the same. I have had both Stihl and Husky saws, and both are great saws. I'm currently running a MS261 and I love it. Nice job on the video.
So strange....the 2 in one is all I ever use on my 562xp and I have never experienced the raker issue... Cuts like butter after a touch up with it. Zero chatter...
At 77 I pick up the lightest that starts the easiest and let the sons handle the rest! As you being novice (don't be insulted but proud) I'm so impressed you understand the absolute need to move the excavator tracks with your feet! People that don't operate with their feet are only using about a third of the machine--now that's a shame! Thanks for great videos!
Feet on the pedals is a great point. With your hands on the uppers controls you don't have to let go of the track drive levers to grab some upper function. Doesn't sound like much but split seconds can make all the difference when things start to go bad as they can in a hurry.
I love my 562xp it’s a great firewood saw for me I had a576 before it but wanted a smaller saw I could take 4wding and camping so I got a short bar for it to fit in a case I carry on the roof. I like the size, weight and power of the saw. They are all great saws. Good vid👍
To me there is a couple more important factors than speed and weight. Another important one is vibration, with heavy saws or any kind of hand power tools. If you carry a tool around a lot of vibration will cause just as much fatigue and soreness as weight. Another kinda important thing is how far away is the closets dealer, being able to get parts more or less when you need them, is a big help when you are in the middle of something and something breaks or needs changing. Having to delay to next day or longer can be a big pain in the a**. That 572 though on just power and weight, seems to be a pretty good ballance between power and weight. It definitely cut fast. I wouldnt carry the extra weight of the 585 unless I REEEEEALY had too
Great video Adam! I have a 562 and love it. It’s a nice balance in my opinion. Has some snot but not super heavy. I truly believe it comes down to which dealer is closer to you if you own a husky or a stihl. Both great brands. It’s like the Chevy/Ford rivalry.
Great video, comparison was on point!….when I started with chainsaws I had all stihl, the dealer was close by…they all ended up with carb problems….ended up traveling farther to the husky dealer and bought one…never had a problem with it….I think I have like 14 of them now, mostly 395’s and 372’s, they are bar none the best saws ever made, I have a couple 572’s, that’s a great saw also….but nothing for nothing you only need those 372’s and 395’s….they had that supply chain problem couple years ago and no one had the 372, once the dealer got them in and called I bought two more, still never used them yet…372 is the truly the only one saw you ever would need!
Adam, you ran 5 great saws in this video and any single one of these would be great to have. I am into Stihl simply because I have two dealers less than 10 miles from me. Regarding saw brands Echo, Husqvarna, Stihl etc are all quality products and I would have no issue with owning any of these.
LOL, somehow I just figured Doug would end up in this video! Shoot, I'd be there too if I was your neighbor. It's fun trying out new equipment! It's also nice to have somebody run the camera.
The Husqvarna 455 Rancher I bought is great. It cuts through logs and small trees like a hot knife through butter. Thanks for the recommend, Adam! It could probably even fell 80' Southern Yellow Pine (Loblolly species here) trees, but the space to fell them is limited, so only small ones.
I had a dream last week of the Pittsburgh Penguins vs Toronto Maple Leafs in the playoffs. There was a fight and Adam was the referee. During the timeout the crowd, players, and the announcers all sat down for 20 minutes and listened to Adam on the loudspeaker break down the truthful facts and risks of the situation. I need to stay away from my chocolates. 😂
You convinced me to buy a Husqvarna, my 16" electric chainsaw can't handle some wood. Now to look for a reasonably priced Husqvarna at the big box stores.
Im a husqy fan. I got one of their snowblowers about 10 years ago and that sucker always fires on the first pull every year. So i got a Rancher 460 saw when i went to get a saw. Its been great. Cuts anything i throw at it. Really nice vibration control.
I simply prefer Husqvarna saws. How they operate, feel and cut. I've run all the Stihl Pro line also and simply prefer Husky...not that they're "better" but that I prefer them.
I have the Stihl 2 in 1 and have been very pleased with it. I have the Stihl 661 saw and it is keeping the chain perfect. For smaller jobs I'm running my M18 Milwaukee battery saw and find that very good for 95% of the jobs. The torque on these battery saws are amazing.
As a tree surgeon my favorite saw was a Jonsered 70 E and a49Sp then a husky 55 and a Stihl 009 for climbing Huskvarna uses old Jonsered patents all good saws for a particular job they all used Remington designes
Whoop whoop, Hometown Acres 🎶🎵 🥰 You really did a great job comparing these saws - such patience - perfect editing!! I hope your friend gives you one of them! 😉👍 God bless you and your family! ♥️ 🙏
We run both brands up on our farm, and they are both top brands. My personal favorite for firewood and timber cutting is the Stihl MS 462 and the MS 262 for brush cutting.
I live in the redwood logging area of Mendocino, CA. The saw I've seen timber fallers use the most is the Husqvarna 372 / 572. I used to have a 394 Husky that I picked up mainly for milling. It was an impressive saw but it would start to feel pretty heavy if I had to carry around much.
Great comparison Adam. I’m all about the lightest, fastest saw with least vibration that will get the job done. I have a 572xp for the larger logs, but for 90% of what I cut I use a 550xp mk2. I wish you had one to include in your test.
@FuckALLauthorities Husqvarna out cuts, starts and runs better then stihl... I've got a 550xp that's cut hundreds of cords of wood and been used hard and rough... Always starts one pull all day after the first start... I have never seen a stihl that could do that....
I bought the 562 just over 5 years ago. I haven't had any issues yet. There is a point it will act sluggish and that is when I need to blow out or purchase a new air filter. In 5 years though, that hasn't happened but maybe 2 times. Guessing I have 20 cords cut with it so far. The reason I purchased this particular size in the Husqvarna line is it offered the most power for the weight. I was pleasantly surprised it outperformed the Stihl ms400 which I believe was slightly larger in size.
I ran the 550xp, it was a very good firewood saw and storm clean up saw, but the auto tune was giving me fits. I actually went to a 349xp for my next saw and no complaints. Plenty of compression and no more auto tune issues. I think the 562 power to weight saw is great.
I will run whatever. But I tend to lean to husky. Great comparison video. Those husky saws seemed to have started better in the video. They looked very smooth running down through the logs.
just got my first saw about 5 weeks ago , stihl 400c . didn't want a plastic housing , didn't weant echo , didn't want a outboard clutch . so i got stihls latest and greatest tech at 2 lbs heavier than their 261 . we got a wood boiler to heat with around thanksgiving so i need to feed it .........
Both brands are great, Echo actually makes some good stuff too now, can’t go wrong which brand you buy out of those 3 and like everyone knows a sharp chain is most important. 261 vs 550 and 462 vs 572 has been long debated and they all are great hard to draw a line, best dealer wins, great video 👍🏼
I have a three year old 550xp and it has cut a couple hundred cords of wood and it's never taken more the four pulls to start it in the morning and one pull all day long... Most dependable saw I've seen...
This guy, I think Greenland built what appears to be the ultimate firewood processor. As soon as I saw the video I immediately thought of this channel. This machine could be a real game changer for you. "Making firewood and modifying homemade firewood processor." M. Bjoernstroroem
Adam, If I were to buy a Stihl saw it would be the 500i. I've always had Husqvarna saws and recently had bought a 390 nice saw for cutting big wood. But after further review with the 500 series saws, I think I will be investing in the new Pro 550XP with an 18" bar and full chip chain only because I'm not getting any younger and weight will be a factor for me and besides I do not cut too much big wood and this will be my go to saw when I need one. Great video.
Awesome video 👍 I agree with Doug that stihl 2 in 1 tools does a good job but you definitely got to use a regular file couple times in between otherwise those rakers disappear fast and she be bogging . We own both husky and stihl but are local dealer service/parts keeps me more biased to stihl
Good video. Two questions. What kind of chains were you using? Pro chain or a home owner chain? An how could it be fair with all saws if you cut into a log with the diameter going down. When you started you measured but at the end you did not.
I'm a husqvarna fan boy, the stihl 261 362 400 462 500i are great saws. Nice comparison. The husqvarna 550xp 572xp and 592. Will cover about anything a guy wants to cut and I feel are husqvarna's best new saws. If you are a one saw only kinda guy the husqvarna 562xp mark 2 or stihl 400 might be for you.
I like Stihl. They are awesome. I like Husqvarna. Mostly great. Jonsered, again, really good. Echo, great equipment. Husqvarna would be in better shape with loggers if they had better support. It doesn't matter how good your equipment is if there's little to no support for repairs.
Adam, now you need to try Chris's from in the wood yard, 3120 with the 60" bar!!! Lol. But I like both the still and Husqvarna. Have them both. Great comparison. Have a wonderful day.
I think i would go with the Husqvarna 562 or the Stihl ms 400. For me it would come down to price and dealer availability for my area. But the Husqvarna 562 really impressed me it really punches above its weight and size.
I ran a new 400 last week and wasn’t impressed. Not much torque but to be fair it was on its second tank of gas. I’m considering the 462 and would like to see you redo your test with it.
Hi Adam: If you like the 585- give the 592XP at try. Pro series saws are not rated on the CCs, there rated on their build quality and design to be used everyday.
Interesting I’ve never used pump gas in my 362 does bog a little bit here and there but I’m pretty aggressive with my chain filing. I may have an experiment give pump gas a shot. I’ll be interested to see what happens. Just really curious. Thanks.
For me the weight is more important than the couple of seconds of cutting time. I’m not running a firewood business that the time would add up. I need an all around saw. My 024 Wood Boss is perfect for my needs. Tell Doug not to hit the rakers too hard, I usually take one pass every other time I do a hand touch up. Looks like a fun day!
I have an MS 250 which I've had for 12 years or so and got an MS 391 about 2 years ago the reason I went with Stihl was because that's what my dad used plus I had several dealers around me and no Husqvarna dealers around me the nearest was 35 or more miles away. Plus I've always heard good things about Stihl
Seems the sharpening quality was the difference. Would love to see all saws swapped with brand new chains. Huskys were spitting chips, Sthils were spitting dust.
Great video Adam. Short and to the point. The Husqvarna did seem and "did" cut faster - but I wonder if the weight of the saw have anything to do with it. I like having a lighter saw over heavy. Thank you also for having new chains for the comparisons - it shows just how evenly match and also - using the same fuel in all 4 saws. The only thing I wonder if the Stihl might cut faster with Stihl Fuel. I doubt it, but Just a thought. Thanks for sharing.
Thinking of buying a 400 stihl ,what's u opinion on running a 22 , 24inch bar oiling wise, does it deliver enough oil to the bar ?? Please advise Gunter
Great comparison, but you left out price. Most of these saws are beyond what I can talk myself into spending on a saw. I have a 14 inch Ryobi I have used for years, cut over a dozen cords of wood with it, bucking logs and climbing, wore out 2 chains and a bar and it still gets the job done. Cost me $99. I also have an 18 in Poulan Pro which I find to be lower in quality but for $179 it has definitely earned it's keep, too. I wonder how Stihl & Husky compare to these cheaper brands.
What pitch chain is the Stihl running? I assume the Huskies are all running a 3/8 chain. The Pro saws may be taking a bigger bite because of the extra power available. Great videos.
I have a Husky 390xp with a 32" bar, it runs like a banshee about to be neutered. My dad even complemented it and he rarely gives those out at 72 years old.😅
Adam, we had a set up growing up with a table we could buck on and roll straight to the splitter so you aren’t dropping and having to pick rounds up. I have been looking for something similar to show you. I just saw something similar in a video by Back 40 firewood called “Now this is how you make firewood”. You should check it out.
Same chain types on all saws, right? Great comparison of the various saws out there that a pro homeowner might consider for high production firewood cutting. When I'm out on trail crew, I really like the 291 over the 462, just for the weight. When hauling a saw over 5 miles of trail, weight can be more than power / cutting speed. If I were to be cutting dozens and dozens of rounds of firewood, weight may be less an issue and raw cutting speed may be more of a consideration.
I only cut firewood that is rarely bigger than 18'' I run both Stihl and Husky. I have a ported 550XP that runs faster than my 357XP so I cut with that the most as it light. For the big stuff, I use my MS462 which I think is the best saw in its class and the same weight almost as a 562.
@Adam: was that MS462 ported? I saw the sticker on the back, and it didn't sound stock. Either way, you couldn't go wrong with any of those saws. I have a muxture of Husqvarna, Stihl, and Echo saws. My current favorites are my 346xp, 550xp, 562xp, and my MS462. They each have a unique personality. But having saws from 25cc - 91cc is nice when you routinely tackle a wide range of both species, and sizes of firewood. Keep your chains sharp, cut safe, and keep having fun!
Husky ftw :P I have a 550xp MarkII and It's awesome for me(cutting mostly red mapple for fire wood). A friend have a MS261C. and it's a great saw too. Can only imagine how a 562 - 572 would be even better!
It’s nice to see husky getting some love on the RUclipss. Not everyone needs a 500i and it’s a hell of a saw, but for my use the 562 works for me. Comfortable in the hands, good power, reliable, and not overly heavy.

The cut times were similar. I would take the lightest saw, keep the chain sharp. Have the big one as my large tree saw/ back up.
I’ve ran chainsaws all my life. If I was buying a new chainsaw today it would be a Husqvarna XP chainsaw. They just run & the torque is amazing.
You will be very happy. They start up one pull all day,,, and the speed is amazing... I have the 550xp and love it...
Never EVER did I think that I'd watch close to half an hour of chainsawing, when I was looking for motorcycles. Husqvarna FTW.
Next time you are here you can run the 390XP. 88cc. Absolute beast! Have always loved Husky saws.
They’re all nice saws. Cutting gear makes a difference. Having a local dealer is important when you need something. I just do my own firewood and property work; I have a Stihl MS261c and run an 18” bar and it does all I need it to very well. Huge step up over the 455 Rancher I had before. Lost the saw but found my hard hat and smashed oil jug. Someone found themselves a nice saw. We got a 572xp to replace it. Needed more power and a replacement for dad’s old 288xp. Love the 572 as well.
You're not alone. My tailgate wasn't latched all the way. Music was loud so I never heard it fall during commute. Brand new Ms-461..... Gone
Its plain and simple! Husqvarna is way better than a over rated Stihl! Husqvarna is the cream of the crop!
I have a 592 XP-G and this is a beast. In one of my last videos i cut about 10 cords of poplar with diameters between 24 and 36 inch with a 36"-bar alone in one day. I cut the wood to about 10 inches, this is a standard length here in germany. I love this saw very much...😃
Hi RobAllroud, I also cut wood at 10" in the UK, it's easier to split and besides our fireplace won't take much longer 😅
10 Full cords in 1 day 🤷🏼♂️?
Good for you if typed right.
I have a Husky that I bought new 30 years ago. I don't cut much firewood anymore, but used to cut for myself and my father-in-law. I run jonsereds now sad to see them gone.
Great comparison. I might be in the market for a Husqvarna now.
I have 2 Husqvarna 545 mark 2s 20 inch bars and love them
@@Tim4111 good to know.

Good comparisons 👍 I would have liked to see how a 500i would stack up. IMO, it's the most powerful saw for its size. Great video Adam 🤠👍

I'm a diehard Husqvarna fan and still running 372xp.
Always a good time playing with new toys in the woodyard!

Whatever the brand, find a good dealer.
Good test Adam. While I'm a "Husky" user from long ago, the Stihl is a close second!
Nice side by side comparison 👍 I think both brands are great, just each person's preferences determines which one you like best 🤷
Im a husqy fan. I got one of their snowblowers about 10 years ago and that sucker always fires on the first pull every year.

@@HometownAcres worst comparison I've ever seen. Shameful promotion of HUSKY which has 5 or 6 more plastic parts. Smallest is slowest dummy.
@FuckALLauthorities Husqvarna out cuts, starts and runs better then stihl... I've got a 550xp that's cut hundreds of cords of wood and been used hard and rough... Always starts one pull all day after the first start... I have never seen a stihl that could do that....
550 xp is plenty enough saw for me. Never seen a need to carry around extra weight all day in the woods
That's what I have, but I wonder the weight difference in the 562 is not alot.... But I love my 550xp
A true test for time is to let the weight of the saw do the cutting. A good saw is a sharp saw.
What do you use to sharpen your saws?
A really fair time test right there! That, and sharp chains added to it!
Great video kind of leaning towards the 562
While cutting could you notice the difference in weight between the MS400 and 562XP?
I will run whatever. But I tend to lean to husky. Great comparison video. Those husky saws seemed to have started better in the video. They looked very smooth running down through the logs.
I like it that all had decomp buttons, for all around wood cutting, I think I would chose the huskie 462
just got my first saw about 5 weeks ago , stihl 400c . didn't want a plastic housing , didn't weant echo , didn't want a outboard clutch . so i got stihls latest and greatest tech at 2 lbs heavier than their 261 . we got a wood boiler to heat with around thanksgiving so i need to feed it .........
Good Morning Adam. Nice equipment, I don’t cut wood but if you’re smiling at the end of the day then it’s the correct fit for what you are achieving.
Would you use the 585 more often for log sawing?
Or would you prefer a lighter one?
This guy, I think Greenland built what appears to be the ultimate firewood processor. As soon as I saw the video I immediately thought of this channel. This machine could be a real game changer for you.

Can't go wrong with any of the big three brands when it comes to chainsaws.
Interesting comparisons. That last big saw would be my choice for pure cutting power.
I like Stihl. They are awesome.
I like Husqvarna. Mostly great.
Jonsered, again, really good.
Echo, great equipment.
Husqvarna would be in better shape with loggers if they had better support.
It doesn't matter how good your equipment is if there's little to no support for repairs.
I got the Husqvarna Chain Saw today. I got the 455 Rancher instead of the 450 Rancher I ordered. Sort of a free upgrade? It is 20".
I think I see a 585 in your future Adam.
I have a 462. It's my favorite stock saw, but I don't have any newer big Husqvarna saws to compare it to.
Good video fella! Sharp chains, consistent wood, same cutting style across the cuts. It doesn’t get much more fair than that.
Have you done a video on your making device to mark your logs at consistent lengths?
its on amazon ;-)
Interesting I’ve never used pump gas in my 362 does bog a little bit here and there but I’m pretty aggressive with my chain filing. I may have an experiment give pump gas a shot. I’ll be interested to see what happens. Just really curious. Thanks.
I burnt up a 65 cc chainsaw milling a dry white pine post. Trying to choose between husqvarna vs stihl.
I have always watched your Chanel but now with you using the Husky's game changer !! LOL just a Husky Guy !! If your cutting wood your having Fun !
That 585 😅 it’s ridiculously good
That was a phenomenal video. Thank you for your information.
Thank you for sharing!
Playing with new saws is always a fun day
Hello, what's the device you are using for marking the bucking length? looks cool 😊
Adam channeling his inner project farm.
I have a husky 359 and the little stihl 170 and both are great ,but that 359 is a little beast😁
The 400 didn’t want to perform to her fullest capacity while you were wearing the husqvarna hat. I don’t blame it!
Hahaha
What pitch chain is the Stihl running? I assume the Huskies are all running a 3/8 chain. The Pro saws may be taking a bigger bite because of the extra power available. Great videos.
Adam trust me add a 28" bar and thank me later..... no more stooping forward and down
I have a Husky 390xp with a 32" bar, it runs like a banshee about to be neutered.
Also “Wood yard innovation like I’ve never seen” shows how the bucking table tilts/dumps.
If I were to have to buy a new saw today for cutting firewood,562 would be it.
If the chain on Doug’s saw was better sharpened so it didn’t bite so hard I’d say it would be on par with the 585
Doug's saw sounds like he put a bark box on it. Sounds tough
Can anyone tell me what the cut marker is that he is using to mark the distance of his cuts?
Mingo firewood marker. Available on amazon
One question is how sharp are the chains and are they the proffesional grade
He stated that they were brand new.. 3 new Husqvarna chains and the Stihl had a new Stihl chain..
Adam what is the price range of the saws you tested.
The 550xp is around $900... then they go up to I believe $1800...
How I like bucking wood. Excavator! Very appreciated at 52!😂
