Love all the noise! I have a modded stock on my 572 ( also ported) have no idea what hp gain is but I can say it is one of the absolutely smoothest saws going. Great video, can’t imagine swapping all that stuff just for one vid!👍
please do a 60cc stock saw shootout! even a just a stock husky 555, 562 and 562m2 shootout would be interesting if getting all the saws is too much of hassle.
Great video, your muffler sounded best I thought. I would love to see some dyno runs with a stock 346xp or 372xp stock vs gasket delete and simple muffler mod on stock can, something we can all do at home for free.
I like having a screen option like the Steadfast. Sometimes I have to have one. Another topic - have you ever set up to measure chain performance with a dyno? There's so much guesswork and cookie cutting, it would be fun to do some actual torque/power it takes to make a chain cut. Finding wood to make a good comparison might be a challenge.
I’ve tried the bark box and straight shot and I just can’t get on board lol it’s so insanely obnoxious. I’ve since modded all my stock mufflers with an Egan port.
Nice it's rare to see a modded stock can vs a pipe, everyone compares a pipe to a bone stock muffler which is easy to beat The steadfastforestry muffler is decent, if it's kinda cheap they'll sell as it's a simple bolt so you can keep your stock muffler and put it back on the saw when you sell it. I like the modded stock can the best for few reasons. It's the quietest other than stock, you can adjust how loud it will be when making it and it's the cheapest, the fact that it also makes about the same power as a custom pipe is a bonus. My beef with pipe mufflers like the egan one is even if they make good power they are just too loud to run on a saw im cutting fire wood with, the people working around me hate them.
I don't like the pipe style ones for the reasons you listed as well as the fact that it makes it awfully easy to get a chip of dust or stone or something into the cylinder when it's riding in the pickup.. a little more power isn't worth that risk
IMO your muffler sounds the best (stock modified muffler) and the power curve it has on the dyno looks like it would feel better than the other 2 (due to more torque lower in the range) with a 32” buried. Great work as usual Joe!
I have followed the links provided and concluded the modified stock muffler to be the best value in terms of cost/benefit ratio. Sure, the pipe sounds nice, but who am I trying to impress? Making seconds count could be of benefit for a fire department rescue roof saw, but most here have the choked stock factory mufflers on their saws. Great comparison video, enjoyed!👍
Love the sound of the pipe when under load. I installed an Egan straight shot muffler on my 661. Absolutely love the change and sound. Even at idle! In the woods nobody cares about the sound. After hitting the kill switch at the end of a cut and pulling my muffs I can hear the sound off the hills like an air raid siren in the distance. Amazing. After a freak storm last summer I was busy helping friends cut big timber away from roads. If you have neighbors they are definitely going to hear you! Kind of like taking a .50 BMG to the range! 😀
A cool dyno test would be fuel consumption test at cutting rpm. If you pick up speed in the cut but are constantly refilling did you really save time with an opened up muffler?
Steadfast forester seemed the fastest but the Egan sounded the best. Is the stainless steel steadfast heavier? Also, I see the black Husqvarna in the background. Are you getting ready to do some R&D on the 500i killer?
Huh? I missed the muffler for the Husqvarna 572XP muffler on Egan's website. They mostly have mufflers for Stihl and a few Echo saws. Is one of the Stihl mufflers exhaust port compatible with the 572?
I think the last cut is faster because the autotune takes a long time to adapt, but I don't know in which order you did the test. my autotune seems slow, some 15sec cuts, with rpms as constant as possible. a lot of work for a test, I like all the rev limiters😂, ssf inox muffler best sound for me
Steadfast mufflers sounds the best. But according to the dyno, I’d rather have your modded muffler for longer bars, and general storm cleanup. With the latter, you never know how often you may burry the saw and bog it down too much in varying conditions.
It might be interesting to test a modified spark plug with side gapping at the Dyno. It should give an increase on motorcycle engines at the expense of its durability, but on the power curve of a chainsaw I don't know how it would behave.
Does that autotune get a workout every time you bolt on a different muffler? I guess in theory it should just roll with it right? How long does it take for it to find its new normal after a muffler swap?
Im already deaf in one ear im going stock.😂 You should test an ebay pipe and silencer for a scooter on a saw. It would need some modification but would probly be a lot less work than your scratch built pipes.
I cannot duplicate the factory testing process. No telling what situation that number came from, or even what type of dyno was used. That is why I do the before and after runs all on the same saw to show the difference.
I know it would be a bit of work at first… but I have an idea. You could become super popular. So… make some test rigs that are Project Farm style. Have a test rig setup that will apply constant pressure on your wood cuts. Be a little more scientific with it. Do basically what project farm does but do it with saws. Show all kinds of scientific testing. Bud… you would become popular in a HURRY.
Problem is when running a saw constant pressure is not a reflection of performance due to the change in torque Hence why the dyno is a fairer way of proving improvement in performance
You remember my vote for leaving the muffler off entirely. If you insist on a muffler, the secret is to install air intakes as close to the exhaust port as possible. This minimises the pulsing in the muffler as the port opens and closes. So when the exhaust port is closed, air is drawn in the air intake and it allows exhaust gas to continue to flow out the exit.
Liked the Steadfast muffler. Some of our firewood comes out of the National forests. Spark arrester is required there.
I have a 1” tube in my factory can. Works darn good for me
Love all the noise! I have a modded stock on my 572 ( also ported) have no idea what hp gain is but I can say it is one of the absolutely smoothest saws going. Great video, can’t imagine swapping all that stuff just for one vid!👍
So cool, love the channel and thank you for all the work you put in to give us accurate information.
please do a 60cc stock saw shootout! even a just a stock husky 555, 562 and 562m2 shootout would be interesting if getting all the saws is too much of hassle.
This! Been waiting for that, those 50-70-90cc comparison videos are his highest-rated ones, don't know why the 60cc hasn't been done yet
Great video, your muffler sounded best I thought. I would love to see some dyno runs with a stock 346xp or 372xp stock vs gasket delete and simple muffler mod on stock can, something we can all do at home for free.
I'd love to see you dyno a expansion chamber pipe on the 572xp so see what power boost they truly provide vs these.
Man , that was a lot of work!! Thanks. Forestry muffler for me.
Steadfast for me!

Modified factory muffler sounded the best to me
I thought so to. Really gotta get my 562 muffler gutted.
I’ve tried the bark box and straight shot and I just can’t get on board lol it’s so insanely obnoxious. I’ve since modded all my stock mufflers with an Egan port.

Useful side by side testing, answering some questions.
I’d take your modded muffler or the steadfast one both seem to sound the same and they cut good with them .
Muffler mod is all u need, sounds good too
Nice video. Never used the husqvarna 572.
If I was into 5 series I think I would go with factory modded muffler. The pipe sounded good also.
IMO your muffler sounds the best (stock modified muffler) and the power curve it has on the dyno looks like it would feel better than the other 2 (due to more torque lower in the range) with a 32” buried. Great work as usual Joe!
Great video Joe. That's a nice muffler mod you make, sure sounds and performs nicely.

Perfect timing . Got logs arriving this week and I want to mod my 576xp muffler to help it along
I think the last one take a guess
Steadfast forester seemed the fastest but the Egan sounded the best. Is the stainless steel steadfast heavier? Also, I see the black Husqvarna in the background. Are you getting ready to do some R&D on the 500i killer?
The stainless muff is a few oz. Heavier than stock. Have a few things to try on the black saw too ;)
Great data! Steadfast 4 me!
Huh? I missed the muffler for the Husqvarna 572XP muffler on Egan's website. They mostly have mufflers for Stihl and a few Echo saws. Is one of the Stihl mufflers exhaust port compatible with the 572?
Egan pipe is still in the prototype phase, but will be added soon.
Like to do a decible test on them still need hearing
I just finished looking at one m of these to bad i wasn't buying a new saw thought that might change in a few month
Like the testing and I like the mod stock muffler 👍. Thanks

I run empty can stock muffler front half cut off and open pipe very loud and more power with larger carb rejected etc.
Steadfast mufflers sounds the best. But according to the dyno, I’d rather have your modded muffler for longer bars, and general storm cleanup. With the latter, you never know how often you may burry the saw and bog it down too much in varying conditions.
Just went to the Steadfast Forestry Shopify link and it says This store is currently unavailable. Would love to see inside that muffler.
what's the best muffler mod for a 562xp 2023
It might be interesting to test a modified spark plug with side gapping at the Dyno. It should give an increase on motorcycle engines at the expense of its durability, but on the power curve of a chainsaw I don't know how it would behave.
Is the 572 like the 462 with kvik trotle respons
I just love this shit 🙌
I will take your muffler all day long Joe. I see your blackout beast in the background, you working on it Joe?
I used the muffler, maybe once warm weather sets in I'll try messing with it some
All those numbers are considerably higher than stock rated power
Most of them come in higher than stock rated on my dyno. I dont know what procedure factory uses to get rated power numbers.
Weight of each muffler.
What’s a muffler from your shop cost?
We modify your existing muffler 60$ + return shipping
@@dynojoemods2764 thanks I’ll get ahold of you very soon

👍🏻👏🔥
6.5 HP for a stock 572? No other mods? MANUFACTURER ADVERTISED H.P.: 5.8 hp
I cannot duplicate the factory testing process. No telling what situation that number came from, or even what type of dyno was used. That is why I do the before and after runs all on the same saw to show the difference.
This is the one I've waited for. Do I buy a 572? So far I've decided no. The Stihl 462 seems better. But maybe the muffler will change my mind!

Gotta say the stock muffler with screen removed is not quiet by any stretch of the imagination. So might as well make it louder and perform better

I did the no muffler test back on the g366 saw. It worked well.
SSF for me, nicest pop sound, did performed best too. Modificed stock muffler on secomd place for me, best sound though
Did you reset the auto tune after each muffler swap.
