A long distance lorry driver I pulled up and booked into a B&B. They had a small room with a TV. I was feeling sad, missing my girl. but then I swichted on the telly and the Andy Williams Show came on. Andy really made me cheer up. I got back to my girl.
Branson, Missouri. Took my mother to Andy’s Christmas show. At my age thought this would not be to my liking. So…..chilled a water bottle full of wine and carried in my pocketbook. What a total surprise. My mother and I had a wonderful evening. She passed two years later two weeks short of 89th birthday. So mom in heaven…..so glad I took you. Andy Williams….thank you so much for an absolutely memorable Christmas.
I love to watch The Williams Brothers sing together. Their harmony is breathtaking. It's fun to watch their joyful smiles! It's as though they're kids again! I like to imagine them singing for the various radio shows when they were boys and then hurrying back to school. How exciting it must have been for them! The Andy Williams Christmas Show was the BEST!
i miss these old days. i was born in 1960 and my mama was a big andy williams fan. as a little child, i wasn't that thrilled with him, but now that i'm old... i love him, too.. go figure ;)
As someone Jewish we so enjoyed these in the 60's...It didn't makes us less Jewish but it did get us in the Spirit of what Christmas was really about..My entire 4 brothers 2 sisters Mom and Pop would watch these specials..Those were the days...
RIP Andy Williams. You and your family's music brought me so much joy and smiles over the years. You will be sorely missed and Christmas will never be the same for me.
Wow! Great harmonies! I wonder why they stopped singing together? Their harmonies are beautiful. I miss the world that produced this kind of programing and music. The programming today has been reduced to the lowest denominator! As a Country I fear that our best days are surely behind us.
hey Lucy i defiately agree with you....im jazz pianist and a true Sinatra lover.....however i cant stop playing this.i just love the obvious great family connection here and i do love the song and the great arrangement....i hopr your depression is all gone.....
Wonderful, nice to see a happy family and the fun they're sincerely having. Andy is one of the very best singers of all pop and he is definitely missed .
You're welcome. I'm just barely old enough to remember The Andy Williams Show, but I remember the Christmas specials very well and, as an adult, I've done a little research on Andy's life/career. Funny that, because I'm a child of the '60s/'70s and a rocker at heart, but I love the era of the Great American Songbook, and Andy himself is a product of the jazz age.
Amazing , when I heard Andy playing on the stereo I knew I was Home for Christmas I listened to it again . Remarkable talent . I miss these days so much . Life was good , simple , we had hope and people cared about each other I am grateful for having been a very small part of this wonderful time . Back then it really was a wonderful life
This was about 1966, so the boys in order L-R are: Dick (age 41); Andy (39), Bob (48) and Don (44). Don describes their voices this way: "Andy sang top, then Bob below him, then me singing bass to tenor and then Dick." As of Christmas 2008, only Bob had passed away. They worked very hard as teens and young men, traveling constantly and doing shows all over the Midwest, then they got national radio exposure and did some movies. Practice never hurts!
One of the best family groups of all-time. No question about it. You can hear Andy's voice distinctly out of the four. He puts that higher bridge note in toward the last third of the song. Very distinct his part. That is what separated h from his brothers.
A great quartet but you can obviously see that Andy really stands out among the four. He changes tones, volume and depth at different times to be a little twist to the song. Love it! The best version of that song I've ever heard by and quartet or one person for that matter.
Thank you for your reply. I truly miss those shows, especially at Christmas. There are still some good shows on tv now, but, it seems like many of those early shows were special. It WAS a differant style. Maybe that's why God gave us the joy of memory. 'Course we always got U-Tube!
I never get tired of admiring the togetherness of the Williams brothers. They were unique and the harmonious songs they gave us will live forever in our minds.
Beautiful. I don't need to denigrate today's music (much of which I also enjoy) to admire the harmony singing of the Williams Brothers. Finding recorded material of the Williams Brothes is very difficult, so I appreciate the videos posted here. I love what little I've heard of their nightclub act with Kay Thompson, and wish I could hear more.
We will never, ever, see shows like this on tv again. That really sucks. People like Andy Williams were a source of great entertainment. R.I.P. Mr. Williams, you where a part of the "good-ol-days" i'll always miss.
absolutely. you can tell they were a very musical family growing up. they must of found their harmonies at a very young age, because they all fit beautifully without any forcing over one another. but you can definitely tell Andy is the lead, but how the other 3 compliment his voice...its incredibly easy on the ears. i can now fully understand and respect why my late grandparents adored him/them so much. =)
The Brothers act split because they'd been together for almost 20 years and they wanted to do different things. Bob, the oldest, never liked show business and went into business with the brothers' father. Don, the second oldest, switched to the business side of the business and became an agent/manager. Dick made a career of writing and arranging music for television and theater. However, the brothers loved getting together for Andy's Christmas specials and appeared on every one.
The vocal arrangement was probably written by Dave Grusin, who was the musical director for Andy's show and wrote the the vocal arrangements for most of Andy's collaborations with guests (although I think Andy's brother Dick also wrote vocal arrangements for the brothers, especially for the later Christmas specials).
THOSE WHERE REAL CHRISTMAS SHOW.I REMEMBER GOING HOME .JUST TO SEE ALL THESE CHRISTMAS PROGRAM S.THEY WERE VETY SPECIAL TO ME.THOSE WHERE THE BEST TIME FOR ME.I WISH I COULD TURN BACK TIME.LIKE WE ALL WISH WE COULD
This particular version (I think this is from 1965) is available on a DVD called Andy Williams Best of Christmas, but the Brothers recorded a Christmas album in 1970 called "Christmas with the Williams Brothers", which has been remastered and reissued on CD, with the title "Christmas with Andy Williams and the Williams Brothers". Both are available at Andy Williams official website. I found the original LP, with original artwork and notes, on eBay.
You can tell they are brothers for sure. I love the harmonizing they do and I listen to this every Christmas...Merry Christmas to everyone who is watching this.
It's amazing the harmony between siblings, the Williams, the Osmonds, the righteous brothers..I am sure there are more but it is the most beautiful, natural harmony and you can see it's right by the glow on their faces. What's natural is always right and beautiful.
I love you Don Williams.........I saw his brother Andy sing alone at the Anaheim Convention Center in the mid 80s and I was STUNNED....HE SANG song after song for an hour or longer without anything but ONE BREATH in between.......I couldn't believe it. I was a guard at the time plus film xtra so I enjoyed it.
Andy Williams Christmas special, Charlie Brown Christmas special. Vince Guaraldi Christmas album, Johnny Mathis and Nate King cole Christmas albums. Collectively made December of 1965 magical.
Thank you for that great bit of information Jean. I always welcome those little gold nuggets of wisdom from people to correct or should i say improve my knowledge on such things. It was a little before my time but no one should ignore what real and true singing sounded like before technology pushed it into obscurity. Thank you
@lucylinus My very earliest memories include the Andy Williams Christmas shows and hearing and seeing the Williams Brothers sing together. I love harmony singing from several genres and generations of music, but for me it started with them. They recorded a Christmas album together around 1970, and it's still my favorite.
Holy moly! The Williams brother on the far right is a carbon copy of Andy! Great harmonies! Look at Andy, a baritone, going distances with his falsetto and full voice on this one. 1:13 "Sleigh bells ri-i-ing" is great. IT'S AWESOME! Oh, and 1:55 is insane.
I should've said, George Wyle, Andy's vocal director, wrote the vocal arrangements for Andy's show, although Dave Grusin also wrote for both vocals and orchestra.
@weightfeather1 I have it on VHS and don't have a clue how to upload, but you're right--it is absolutely gorgeous. It's on the Christmas album the Brothers recorded around 1970, and according to the notes, Dick Williams wrote the arrangement.
@lucylinus It's amazing how many people like who grew up in this time are reliving these memories on RUclips. I've had a great time finding these music clips and Christmas episodes of the sitcoms of the day.
@LWOPP *smile* thank you for this info. I always wanted to know who was the oldest and suspected Andy was the "baby" haha. I remember watching, listening and loving Andy Williams and his Christmas specials with his family an brothers!. I adored that last year he was in the Macy's parade signing his trademark Christmas song The Most Wonderful time Of The Year. In his late 80s now I hope he is able to stay with us for more Christamas joy to come!
@liza8423 Andy was very recently diagnosed with early/mid stages of bladder cancer. Oldest brother Bob passed away in 2003 at age 85. As far as I know, Don and Dick are in good health.
@BRG1942 Prior to their teaming up with Kay Thompson after WW II, the Williams Bros. performed mostly as a quartet on radio and, later, in B movies (the notable exception being their back-up vocals for Bing Crosby on "Swingin' on a Star" very early in their career). Their nightclub act with Kay Thompson involved much more than providing back-up vocals, and it was hugely popular on a national scale.
@35diamondgirl there are individual media stores that can convert it for you or you can buy devices that play and copy vhs to dvd/cd. Probably find them online or call your local Electronics store

It just ain't Christmas without the Williams Brothers!
When did classy singing go out of style? I could listen to this ll day.
You may like Michael Buble.

They look so much alike. Wonderful harmony singing.
A rich and masculine harmony that's sure to please any ear.

Impeccable harmonies! No autotunes! Live! Handsome talented brothers.
The Brothers loved singing on Andy's Christmas show every year, and Andy has said that this was his favorite part of the Christmas shows.
RIP Andy Williams. You and your family's music brought me so much joy and smiles over the years. You will be sorely missed and Christmas will never be the same for me.
I miss this ...and his XMas show...those were the days....
Lonnie Nefouse this is usally shown on the pbs stations during the christmas season.
They look so much a like and their voices sound very similar. They have beautiful voices!!
Wow! Great harmonies! I wonder why they stopped singing together? Their harmonies are beautiful. I miss the world that produced this kind of programing and music. The programming today has been reduced to the lowest denominator! As a Country I fear that our best days are surely behind us.

Thanks for posting. Love Andy Williams. His brother's sound good. December 25th 2022. Merry Christmas

This is so beautiful; the way they harmonize, it's like angels singing! Today's "music" is nothing compared to this!
This is the best version of this song ever
OMG, the harmony is absolutely incredible...LOVE IT!!!
One of my favourite A Capella performances EVER.
THANK YOU!HIGH QUALITY STANDARD ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL ARTIST SINGING. THANKS!.....GOD' BLESS. .....GOD' BLESS Oz'Ni.....

Simply wonderful harmonies, but Andy's voice was the most distinctive of the floor.- JG
I loved watching the Andy Williams Christmas specials when I was little. They don't make specials like that anymore.
It doesn't get any better!

Andy Williams has the best christmas songs around and will be my favorite singer for Chritmas for many years to come
You can tell they are brothers for sure. I love the harmonizing they do and I listen to this every Christmas...Merry Christmas to everyone who is watching this.
they were a great singing team and i miss them all singing together. Its remarkable how in harmony they sing so well together/
they must all be gone now
It's like they share one voice. Absolutely amazing.
Williams Bros. are handsome esp Andy
They have good voices too

Harmony spectacular but so is the unison. A lot more difficult to do well than is generally realised and helped by such similar voices.
Who could give a thumbs down to this? Are you a goof?
Such an amazing recording. I can't imagine anyone giving it a "thumbs down."
oh the harmonies !!!! amazing
Christmas isn't the same or half as lovely without them !
Love this, too bad the stations only play Andy´s song without his brothers !
This make me so f*cking happy. I wish I was born around that century... the music and the harmonies are fantastic.
Always a fan of Andy Williams .. love this family rendition
Boy they look and sound alike...awesome! Will miss you Andy!

i just 4 yrs old when i heard an andy williams song in the radio, and loved it until now, even though i'm already 21. I hate punk music.
awesome
Thank goodness for the 20th Century!
