I am from Britain, I had heard of Johnny Carson, but I never had watched any of his shows or materials. I had always wanted to know why so many Americans loved this man. So after watching these videos I can see why. I am hooked on him now. What a performer, comedians and interviewer. A true legend, now I know what everyone was talk about how great he was.
Mark Johnson I maybe one of only a few British who do, as I do watch a lot of US talk shows here. Really enjoy Letterman and Conan, and of course I was a big fan of Craig Ferguson.
+John King Hey John I used to miss my bus in the am most of the time because of Johnny Carson n David Letterman. Craig Ferguson is right up there with Letterman in my books, very funny guy and lots of hot woman aka Carson n Letterman haha. One of the funnier Carson moments, and he got in hot water for these comments, was when Jane Fonda came out with a white persian cat on her lap, Johnny kept looking at the cat, and Jane quipped "Whats the matter Johnny, don't you wanna stroke my pussy?" To which Carson replied, "I'd love to but you got that damn cat on your lap!" Cracked me up, I really wish I could find that clip on here because it was one of the funniest moments that I remember.
+John King and my memory is failing me cuz it was Zsa Zsa Gabor who came with the cat, Jane Fonda recalls the story with Johnny, that clip is on here. ;)
One fourth of July Johnny looked over at Tommy and asked him what he did for the 4th, Tommy replied I dropped my pants and fired a rocket. This gets a little bit of laughter Carson stands there for a moment and then goes not according to Mrs Newsom. Possibly one of the funniest things I ever saw in the show
True. Very rare that people stick around for major holidays to do their show. George Noory, radio host of KFI which is hugely listen to, tends to still play major holidays including Christmas Eve and Christmas and stuff like that. Pretty cool! Johnny was, the man!
My how Johnny and the gang are missed. Things have just really not been the same on mainstream television today. Too bad the studios are shut down due to the Covid.
It's a shame Johnny had such a miserable private life. Died at 79 from emphysema due to cigarettes. Get the private life story on youtube--Johnny Carson: King Of Late Night. On stage, happiest guy on earth, off stage, most miserable and most lonesome person you can imagine. His mother was not a very encouraging person to him and he didn't go to her funeral, saying, "Finally, the witch is dead."
When his son Rick died, that was the beginning of a slow end. He retired 11 months later. Johnny was actually an introvert when not working if anyone can believe that.
May 5, 2022: I would have given anything for time to stop on July 4, 1975. My boyfriend would be killed the following month on Aug 22nd {auto crash} south of Santa Fe. Sgt Manuel R. Martinez, USMC.
I remember the build up to the 200th anniversary of the nation. It was a huge build up! But I am not hearing about anything for the 250th coming up soon.

I love the chemistry between Ed and Johnny. We never had anything like that on our talk shows. The hosts never had side kicks.
Carson and Letterman hung out a fair amount on vacays and what not, and I agree Ed was perfect for Johnny! I miss them they were great entertainers.
3:14 - I always love the dead silence when the joke fails, the silence of a crypt which Johnny loved, as he got the laugh when jokes bombed.
I was a kid -never noticed how handsome Johnny Carson was. I noticed how funny he was, and Doc had the clothes.
Still the king of late night!!!

Johnny would actually do new shows on The Forth of July, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve. You don't see that these days.

People used to watch the tonight show as an event so I understand why. Everyone was watching in those days…
Thanks for posting! These are great.

Please--more shows from 1975!
Still looked great at 50, looks better than alot of people at any age and in general
Great fun! Thanks. Love Johnny.
He has a great voice
Heyyyooohhh here's Johnny the man!
I was 16 then, and loved Johnny Carson! Now I have Bill Maher, Steven Colbert, and Jon Stewart. Still miss Johnny though.... :(
I wouldn't trade Johnny for any of them combined.
Always liked Tommy Newsom. He could say just about anything and make the audience (and me) die laughing, LOL.
I love your videos. Can you please put some Art Fern and Aunt Blabby clips on here?
Better than today's comedians
“He lights a Crayola and yells, Bang!” Only Johnny could get away with that joke.
Las Vegas flood joke should have included a comment about a floating crap game...come on guys, you weren't thinking, lol
I'm 22 here. Memories
Johnny said Las Vegas never stops,
Well, in these day Vegas has stopped!
Heo!!

J. Steven Harper heard he was with young naked women swimming naked himself as well at a hotel one time, it was in a book someone wrote about him.

Wow I had a horrible mother. I felt very relieved when she passed.
His mom should have seen how talented he really was. Johnny was one of a kind. Thank God for reruns ❤️
The King of Late Night!

Bless You and Keep You, Miss Katryna!😔🌹B.W.
A year late, I'm sorry for your past loss.
I missed Carson.
I like how the only joke that bombed was a social comment, ha!
