I'm 41 now, and I used to live at the arcade chugging in quarters to play this game at my local arcade when I was a kid. Taught myself how to do air combos and corner infinites (Cyclops primarily), this was before the age of youtube, tutorial videos, and the internet, really.
Damn this content is crisp. Shoutouts to the Capcom Devs for showing these characters love in their own way back in the day and shoutouts to you dude for educating a lot of people who were curious about the references.
You can really date the game by Birdy's appearance, she basically disappeared from the comics for over 20 years until she, like every other X-Character came back for Krakoa. Outside of this one game she's obscure as fuck. Her power is telepathic emotional manipulation, which she used to sooth Sabretooth's homicadal rage. He was devasted when she died because it meant he would revert back to a feral killer beast
@ellachino4799 Oh he was an abusive prick. And the fact that he kept killing even once his emotions were in control showed that he actually liked it, it wasn't something he couldn't control.
@RandoChrisYT I love that his personality has actually developed naturally, we kept thinking he was a bad guy, all along he's just wanted to fight as badly as Ryu
Rogue's voice actress still dubs her to this day. (Lenore Zann) She also dubs Birdy A good video to know more about the series: The INSANE Origins of Marvel vs Capcom
They're good friends. He saved her. She vouched for him to join the X-Men. They've been cool ever since. They kind of have like a brother-sister relationship.
Their character select portraits are some of the best artwork I've seen in a video game ever. Capcom really gave it their all when they were making this game. Awsome video, Desk!!!
Weirdly, Gambit's first appearance in the video is his first PUBLISHED appearance... but story-wise, his introduction came next month (in Uncanny 266). It was a publishing error that had the Annual come out prior.
The optic blasts are nice and what not, but I need an explanation for why Cyclops alone has a double jump and the other x-men who have ways to move themselves mid-air without projectiles do not.
A mixture of game design and Game balance. Cyclops is a zoner and is confortable far away from the oponent, a double jump gives him an extra way to do that or an option on how to aproach. That's not lore acurate but it's a gameplay compromise. Psylock too had double jump in xman c.o.t.a and triple jump in marvel super heroes. This is because in her case the design fits the lore. Her character is a ninja and it reflects by incorporating deception and ninjutsu. She is gimmicky character, she could dash behind you and change sides, had a mirror images super. She could teleport in 6 different ways and do an extra directional follow up after teleport in msht. This way she could always keep the oponnet gessing. Flying characters not having a double jump might be because of gameplay balance or complications controling flyght. In mvc2 reflight is a pretty hard technique that allows you to flight, do some air moves, cancel flight to be able to defend in the air then flight again to attack. It is super clubersome, super powerfull and pretty busted it breaks the game. That technique is most important reason storm, magneto and sentinel are god-tier in that game. I assume it would be even harder with double jump inputs in the mix
The moveset design is based on the character archtypes, Wolverine for example does not have a projectile nor fly nor double jump, because he is a rushdown character. He has great dashes and agility because he needs to get close and stay there. Once he is there, he has all the tools to keep the pressure. But it must be hard for him to get there first. This weakness is by design to give the rest of the cast a something to exploit. Cyclops is a zoner and he strongest gameplan is keeping a rushdown from reaching him. and he has the tools for that.
Hey desk! major major props on this series. I'm stoked you called out Wolverine's 1st actual appearance as Incredible Hulk 180 (as most people unknowingly think its 181 cuz of the cover!!) -- cheers!
People today don't realize how cool this game was. I remember seeing it for the 1st time at a K-Mart arcade. It blew me away! I had previously played COTA and MSH in arcades, and was excited to see Gambit, Rogue, and especially Sabretooth!
You and SeventhForce are great people teaching everyone about the characters in Marvel Vs Capcom, it’s so much fun to learn about these characters even if you don’t read comics like me, seeing these chain combos and infinites is engaging in a satisfying way, Awesome video please do more if possible!
I hope in the next MVC game (if we get one) the cyborg Blade, from Street Fighter The Movie The Game (Arcade), appears in the roster He already looks like a comic book super villain 😁 During the Street Fighter 5 days, Capcom Japan made him canon in the mainline series and also gave him a cool redesign! Blade even appeared in TEPPEN If Blade returns, for his gameplay he could have a mix of his moves from SF The Movie The Game and Slam Masters/Muscle Bomber (because Blade is actually Gunloc/Lucky Colt)
Your video is very well made (8 always used to play X-Men Vs Street Fighter at my local comic book shop at the time as a yumgling, I loved Charlie and Cyclops team
I'm sure that with the recent release of the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection, essentially unlocking games that haven't been available for LITERAL DECADES (officially), he's going to be dropping content for at least a solid year. Heck, we may even see some MvC3 and Infinite content...
Awesome video, and great editing as usual. I gotta add though, at 4:44, the jumping MK in Cyclops combo is really Down+MK, and also at 9:55 the repeated super jump LK in Magnus combo is really Down+LK. Juggernaut 3 super combo is doable on arcade version only against all 3 light characters (not EX cancelled of course), but the timing is very precise. His infinite at 16:12 also only works on light characters.
I'm turning 41 this coming 16.Looking back 2 decades ago,I just realized how old this game was.So to my age.Classic games can't be beaten.Believe it or not,I'm still craving for the old games, though I still have my slim ps 2 working.Golden days forever.
Amazing video. Would have been nice to hear the music change for each character tho. :3 Just as some feedback! I learned a lot, even with this being my favorite Marvel VS game! I never knew who Birdy was, really cool info here.
Great job on the videos recently, enjoying the well-edited longform (compared to your usual output) content, one complaint I have though is that in these longer videos you really should use more than one or two background themes. The music is usually a good choice but listening to the same song for 10-20 minutes is a bit tiring.
I remember i wanted to play this game sooooo bad i took 2 broke Playstations and used the parts to make a Playstation. Thats how much i loved games as a kid
Cool seeing you dig into these classic VS games. I'm curious what you could cook up with Shuma Gorath's afterimage super in Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Figther.
Imagine how good the 2d graphics would be if arc system works handled the art style and mimicked the comics and 90s cartoons using the guilty gear strive engine
I think it's a real shame Sagat never become playable in the Marvel vs Capcom series. I would have used him instead Akuma and Dan. Nothing against either of them, just we have already Ryu and Ken that for the most part fight the same, why have a stronger version and weaker version taking up space on the roster. And while I'm at it, I'd replace Sakura with Rose.
Does anyone know the theme song playing at the beginning? It's so friggin' good. I have the game soundtracks and yet somehow I'm missing this amazing catchy tune!
Desk, could you explain how to do flying screen break? I've been playing this game for 15 years and it still doesn't make sense to me, even if I can do it consistently.
1.) About Sabertooth comic debut, did he mention about he has a brother? 2.) Where is Yellow and Brown Wolverine Suit comes from? I thought this was a debut outfit. 3.) Juggernaut is a not a mutant then?
1) Although Sabretooth did have a brother, Saul, he's not particularly important although he is linked to why he hates Wolverine so much, and this was revealed years after the characters debuted. Sabretooth and Wolverine are not blood related in the comics. (They may be very distant cousins through Romulus but that is... a whole thing) 2. Wolverine wore the yellow and blue costume in his first appearance against hulk. He didn't get the brown suit until 1980. He wore the yellow and blue suit for his first missions with the X-Men through the 70s, and then wore it again starting in the 90s. 3. Correct. Juggernaut is not a mutant and his powers come from the mystical Crimson Gem of Cyttorak. Cyttorak himself is mainly a villain of Doctor Strange.
EARLY Sabretooth appearances? Sabretooth first appeared in 1977, while Jim Lee drew him wearing a suit in the early 90's. Far from his early appearances.

Back when ASSCOM actually gave a fuck about what they were making...
That's nice
Try covering easter eggs and secrets in the other MvC games!!

Amen. I'm 40 and used to do the same thing. What a time to be alive.
43 and I was right there with ya man!
Same here I'm 39. Those arcade years are just irreplaceable. Too many great memories
Ditto, I'm 41 and miss those arcade days. Rarely have I seen an anti-social gamer until now, thanks to online gaming.
Same im 87 and i used to play this with my great grandkids

Eh to be fair she was going to try and leave him anyway bc he treated her pretty terribly
@ellachino4799 Oh he was an abusive prick. And the fact that he kept killing even once his emotions were in control showed that he actually liked it, it wasn't something he couldn't control.
I love seeing Sabertooth in a suit. It's so menacing to see that: "Oh! He's a psychopath by choice!"😮
I love Sagat's face in Magneto's ending. He's just "Oh. Okay."
@RandoChrisYT I love that his personality has actually developed naturally, we kept thinking he was a bad guy, all along he's just wanted to fight as badly as Ryu
"I just wanted the runback with Ryu, who's this magnet man?"
些細なことかも知れませんがdeskさんの動画はいつも日本語版のキャラクター名を表記していて好きです
This is such a well-made video that it's honestly incredible, especially the last one about the street fighter characters.
Rogue's voice actress still dubs her to this day. (Lenore Zann)
She also dubs Birdy
A good video to know more about the series: The INSANE Origins of Marvel vs Capcom
The production value of this video is great. Amazing job
Love the nods to X-Men Mutant Academy 2 and Next Dimension.
amazing editing
I love how Gambit’s just kinda there in Storm’s endings for some reason
??? For some reason? Go read his breakout storyline, Uncanny X-Men #266 from 1990.
The perfect blend of knowledge and swag
13:17 something to mention: Bone Claws Wolverine on MVC2 was based on this Wolverine.
Weirdly, Gambit's first appearance in the video is his first PUBLISHED appearance... but story-wise, his introduction came next month (in Uncanny 266). It was a publishing error that had the Annual come out prior.

He’s just that cool
Both of the above answers.
The moveset design is based on the character archtypes, Wolverine for example does not have a projectile nor fly nor double jump, because he is a rushdown character. Well made video! This shows how the game was in PS golden era! Games that aren't made just by graphics alone, but they have a long history!
No, sega saturn era😂
You have to know, there's a man niknamed Blackjugger. He's beyond crazy in this game.
Hey desk! major major props on this series. I'm stoked you called out Wolverine's 1st actual appearance as Incredible Hulk 180 (as most people unknowingly think its 181 cuz of the cover!!) -- cheers!
Shoutout to Jim Lee for establishing this X-men design that turned out classic
10:24
Hmm. I never noticed that!
I always liked that frame and I'm glad to see what it was a reference to.
People today don't realize how cool this game was. I remember seeing it for the 1st time at a K-Mart arcade. It blew me away! I had previously played COTA and MSH in arcades, and was excited to see Gambit, Rogue, and especially Sabretooth!
These videos are SOOOO GOOD!!! I love the blend of information, references, and combos. It's brilliant!! 🥰🥰🥰

grew up on the saturn version so the psx version just gives flash game vibes lol
Holy hell this is so clean Desk, you really stepped up your game bro.
Storm looks like she is DESIGNED to be in fighting games, it's awesome.
Also I wasn't expecting to get comic history and lore here! Cool!
Please make more videos like this for the rest of the VS games ! 🙏
I'm sure that with the recent release of the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection, essentially unlocking games that haven't been available for LITERAL DECADES (officially), he's going to be dropping content for at least a solid year.
Heck, we may even see some MvC3 and Infinite content...
Sabretooth only rips his suit off against Marvel characters. Guess he doesn't take the Street Fighters seriously 😛
Interesting. I guess thats fair since Street Fighter also has a guy that rips his suit off lol
I truly appreciate these elaborate videos ❤
It's absolutely incredible how many infinites are in this game haha
Great work as always Desk!
Awesome video, and great editing as usual. I gotta add though, at 4:44, the jumping MK in Cyclops combo is really Down+MK, and also at 9:55 the repeated super jump LK in Magnus combo is really Down+LK.

Man seeing Sabertooth link supers took me back to the PS1 version of XVSF. That was one of the best features of the home port.
Leaving a like and comment for the algorithm. Good stuff. Great editing. Very informative. Keep up the good work.
That took some time, great looking video
I'm turning 41 this coming 16.Looking back 2 decades ago,I just realized how old this game was.So to my age.Classic games can't be beaten.Believe it or not,I'm still craving for the old games, though I still have my slim ps 2 working.Golden days forever.
Amazing work as always Desk, also when Rogue kisses Akuma she also gains access to "raging demon" lv3 super.
incredible video, thank you very much
Amazing video. Would have been nice to hear the music change for each character tho. :3 Just as some feedback!
I learned a lot, even with this being my favorite Marvel VS game! I never knew who Birdy was, really cool info here.
Always happy to see Gambit!
This video reminds me of reading magazine in 90s. Better than reading wiki online thx dude.
Perfect length for my lunch break
Incredible narration.
Oh yeah! U chose the best track from the game ! CYCLOPS THEME
Wake up babe, new desk video!

Great video

Your content is amazing
This game is really an epileptic killer, I've never seen that much blinking white frames in a game.
besides that, cool vid 👍
great content
Pretty cool video
I LOOOVE your content
The way the supers can be chained together is so heinous lol
Excellent video for great game ❤❤❤
Love your Vids
Best content!!
Yeeee boi
Me, fired up the MVC Fighting collections to try Juggernaut's 1 button infinite.
Cool seeing you dig into these classic VS games. I'm curious what you could cook up with Shuma Gorath's afterimage super in Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Figther.
nice
Imagine how good the 2d graphics would be if arc system works handled the art style and mimicked the comics and 90s cartoons using the guilty gear strive engine
What about Apocalypse and the chars in his stage?
It's kind of weird just how much that rabbit mascot in the background at 11:36 looks like Robbie the Rabbit from Silent Hill 3.
"Juggernaut has a single move infinite"
Okay im pickibg this character 😂
WILD TIME!!!!
Try covering easter eggs and secrets in the other MvC games!!
Got tier editing
man, flashing lights warning. I don't remember this game being that harsh with the super flashes
MAHVEL BABY
Sabretooth thinks he's Urien
Los temas para Cyclops siempre son tristes :(
so basically i'll never be good enough to play with rouge and should just play cyclops like everyone else
Question: How can I do multiple supers with Jugg? I cant follow-up with another super after qcf lp+mp, someone help? just new to this game
I think it's a real shame Sagat never become playable in the Marvel vs Capcom series. I would have used him instead Akuma and Dan. How can you cancel the supers? Is this the EX version? (PSX)
Rogue 🥰
Desk, could you explain how to do flying screen break? I've been playing this game for 15 years and it still doesn't make sense to me, even if I can do it consistently.
I wonder if the devs had fun making Rogue?
Do all these infinites work on the version we have in the collection that just came out 😅?
It must have been a lot of work cutting out every single character sprite like that for this video and the last one.
😮 Órale 😮
Now is all or most of this applicable to the collection?
Norimaru combo video when?
1.) About Sabertooth comic debut, did he mention about he has a brother?
2.) Where is Yellow and Brown Wolverine Suit comes from? I thought this was a debut outfit.

How could you not show Rogue performing Raging Demon?
After 20+ years they charge $50 and can’t bother fixing bugs.
????
People would literally be burning down Capcom's HQ if they tried to bugfix old MvC games.
@@mechadeka not true we need to stop the cheaters
Sensei, can you do combo showcase on any game at capcom collection using Nintendo Switch 😅 , you know what i mean
I would have no problem getting infinited by Rogue using my own characters move. Nope, no problem at all.
EARLY Sabretooth appearances? Sabretooth first appeared in 1977, while Jim Lee drew him wearing a suit in the early 90's. Far from his early appearances.
What is this music its so good...
So you didn't use the collection to make this?
That thing ain't ready for prime time.
Can't watch, please turn off the light flashes. (Light Reduction = On)
So your gana uplaod the history of easter egss with out talking trew out the entire video
