  • Today I am unboxing and reviewing the Huion Kamvas GT-191. I'm coming at this review as someone who has never used a Cintiq. But I think people who are looking to save money, like me, and are cheap, like me, would probably like to hear my opinion and know if it is worth it.
    If you would like to preorder and take advantage of that 10% discount or want to do some more research, check out this link: www.huiontable...

    Also, Huion asked me to mention that if you have any calibration issues, like I did, to contact them at service@huiontablet.com. They were super nice sending me lots of screenshots of things to try and resolve the issue. Which we finally did, YAY!!
    I was sent this tablet at no cost, to test and give my honest review. Thank you Huion!

      Depends... most people wouldn't care much if they never used a Wacom sort of devices before. However the Huion tablets are good at their own prices except they have a few drawbacks compared to Wacom. Some people have bad experiences with Huion and some others have good experiences with them, this "also" applies to Wacom. Wacom is the industry-standard brand which is probably why it's expensive. Huion is a company who makes budget devices for Artists who can't afford Wacom's product... so yeahhh

      I use a Huion tablet and I absolutely love it, but then again its my first tablet so I have nothing to compare it to. All the problems that Wacom users might have with it I don't, simply because its all I've known. I think that Huion is a great brand, and you would only really have problems with it if you're comparing every itsy bitsy detail

    A general note for EVERYONE out there - when it comes to installing new hardware I would highly suggest grabbing ANY drivers for it (graphics card or whatever you're installing) from the website directly. An install disc driver is more than likley older than those from the website...learnt that the hard way MANY years ago!

    Between the XP-pen 22HD: $559, XP-pen 16: $489, and the Huion GT-191: $449, i think i've settled and decided with the Huion.
    This being new(updated???), and fairly cheap, is... kind of a steal from what it seems at the moment. i hope it works well in the long run.
    When I get it, I plan to review. I've never had a tablet monitor before, but i have done so much research the past few years. I've been drawing with a wacom bamboo (screenless tablet) for so long i've just felt really detached from my art and innaccurate. I hope working with a monitor tablet will help me with my workflow and get back into it.
    I've heard good and bad things of working with Huion tablets, but i'm glad they're continuously trying to improve. I hope it serves you well!
    It has been a headache the past few days doing all this research, thank you and H.C Brown for helping me decide TwT
    I've been following your channel for a few months now, never really said anything, but HI this lurker of a fan exists lol

      You've put a lot of thought into it, and I wish you all the luck with your digital art!

      Chronicler Enigma I've been researching like crazy too! Lol. I think im getting an iPad Pro lol. Having tried the XP-Pen 16 I think it's really good, better than the larger size they sell. The new cintiqs don't actually feel as lag free as you'd think (the hover cursor is laggy AF) and definitely not work 3x the price.

    • @ChroniclerEnigma

      The ipad sounds like a really good investment. I've heard many good things!
      At the moment though, its just way out of my range. I've not had any experience with apple products either. I'm not afraid to try it, but I just don't want to tear out my hair xD
      Oh? You're not the first to suggest the 16 is better than the 22 to me. I was debating it, but then the Huion came up for $40 or so less. Updates, (hopefully,) bigger screen, opurtunities to review, it might be a worthy investment.
      I hope I won't regret not getting the XP-pen

  • @monkeyking1150
    @monkeyking1150 6 лет назад +4

    I don’t understand the mindset that a wacom cintiq is the MUST have for artists. I got a separate large monitor with the extra cash I saved to mount it near the tablet, just so I can have a clear/ even larger high definition view of my final works. For $1800 get yourself a nice laptop, one of these babies here, a nice large monitor to mount beside it and you’d feel like you’re making masterpieces with all the different angles you’re working at.

  • @Ghennesph
    @Ghennesph 7 лет назад +17

    Just fyi- the number of pressure levels isn't what creates the bubble and point, but the calibration of the pressure to size ratio. You can actually tune this out in most software, and should try to adjust your base pen curve to be linear imo, but depending on the pen, this can make it difficult to control lighter pressure levels.
    The actual number of levels will only affect stepping between them, and can be seen on cheaper pens, like the Surface Pro Pen 3, which had 256 levels of pressure, but didn't register the first couple dozen or so, and anything 100+ required damaging levels of pressure that would warp the screen and cause the LCD to ripple.(and will actually damage the screen over time! WTF microsoft!) The result is you get probably around 70 levels of usable pressure, and it becomes very easy to see it jump between them when using larger brushes.
    The number of pressure levels on modern devices is just a pissing contest spec and is the least relevant aspect of a quality tablet that I can honestly think of atm.

    A few things I didn't like using these as opposed to the regular ones that lay flat on your desk with no screen. 1. Like you said, hand is in the way. 2. Parallax issues, even with the most expensive ones. 3. Hand and arm got tired faster keeping it up on the surface. 4. They all get hot on your hand after a bit of use. So something to keep in mind if anyone is thinking of upgrading to this type of system. Make sure you can return it if these things bother you too much.

    • @drawingwiffwaffles
      @drawingwiffwaffles  7 лет назад +1

      +Vhey Preexa what sort of parallax issues have you had with on screen tablets? I'd like to know and see if I'm having trouble too.
      Also yeah, my hand was starting to get tired. Hahaha #digitalartproblems

    • @vheypreexa
      @vheypreexa 7 лет назад +2

      The parallax isn't that bad if you're mentally looking back at the picture as a whole. But if you're into details, like me, and if you have any OCDs lol, you'll notice the inherit parallax that can't be removed: the thickness of the glass. So I guess that part will depend on the person, and how much they let it bother them. All in all, I ended up going back to a normal drawing tablet for working at home and getting a galaxy note 12 for doing art when I'm out and about. I make 100% of my income doing art on my computer at home. The galaxy tablet was for fun. So I spend many hours at the computer drawing, some of the 5 issues I mentioned above might not apply to everyone.

    Its not an alternative. Its a direct competitor. It might not have a thin screen or a sleek look or a brand name but at least it doesn't completely destroy my wallet. Wacom even patented their chargeless pen technology to fuck with the rest of the industry. I've always wondered why I had to pay the same amount for a Cintiq that I do my laptop.

    As for shortcut keys, I am a very dependent person when it comes to those buttons and I use them religiously on my wacom tablet, but a day came where a shortcut key's usage was only available on the actual keyboard and when I started using it for like a... day I got used to it and then without feeling it now I use my keyboard rather than the shortcuts I have, so if you are worried about that dw you will probably get used to it faster than you think =) Ah I dream of getting a huion kamvas

    I have a Wacom Intuos Drawing tablet, and even though I've been practicing digital art since I was 13 (I'm 18 now), I still can barely improve because it doesn't feel like I'm drawing on paper. I do think that if I were to draw on a Cintiq or this drawing tablet, I'd be improving so much better. I'm saving up my money to get one of these and to see if that really is the case, or if I'm just not cut out for digital art lol

      +Jayden Daryls I'm sorry. That sounds really frustrating. What problem are you having exaclty? Maybe it's solvable! If it's the not drawing where you are looking thing. This would help. Otherwise I think it's just practice practice practice. Digital art can be finicky but worth it!

    • @KittiesnCrochets
      @KittiesnCrochets 7 лет назад +2

      I think it's also the art programs. I'm a very poor person, so I use FireAlpaca, but the brushes on there are pretty bad if you're not going to do Cell Shading. I've tried other programs but I'm stuck with FireAlpaca for now. Also when I do my digital artwork, it looks nothing like my traditional. It's usually very sketchy and leans really bad, even if I flip the canvas as I draw.

      Maybe you're just not a digital art person?But if you're doing it for animation and stuff"then you just need to draw with it for about a month(and draw with it only)you may get use to it.

      Tbh what i think is that if you want a drawing tablet but dont have the money,that a good computer with a mousepad will work fine until you can afford one. I have a mousepad myself and i can draw quite well in my eyes.

    • @iinoscoped7067
      @iinoscoped7067 7 лет назад

      Im using fire alpaca right now,and i can pretty much draw semi-good with my ASUS Laptop's mousepad. If i want to do fine details all i do is zoom in and i can do them. Having a mousepad is a pretty good alternative if you dont want to buy a drawing tablet at that moment that you have a laptop.
      EDIT: Oh by the way,Krita is unrecommended because it can crash a ton when you use the caligrapher whatever it's called pen tool.

    I remember watching this in 2017 and thinking I'd never even afford one of those.. I just bought the second (newer) version of that tablet and I'm in love! I've had a crappy wacom for less than 100€ before. The wacom itself wasn't really crappy, it's just that I noticed the first little issues with it only a week after I got it and it just got worse over the years. Also I've never been able to get used to looking at the screen of my laptop and drawing on the tablet. I'm used to drawing traditionally and drawing digitally with that screen less tablet was just frustrating. I'm so incredibly happy with the Huion :D

    Gawd, I wish you posted this back around Christmas time last year! I would've gone for this one. Funny story, I was checking out Huions back then and was set on the 185 but let it go when I read that they weren't making any HD versions anymore. ;3;
    I ended up settling on this unknown company called Parblo and bought the Coast22, it's 22 inches which is huuuge, but I don't even notice much anymore because it's perfect. I did have some trouble with drivers and I did so much research before going with this since out of all the alternative Wacom brands, I've never heard of Parblo, but it does what I need it to. Maybe when this one dies, I'll look into this Huion tablet but for now, I'm in love with my Coast 22. (I do need a new laptop, though! xD)

    I've worked with Wacom products before, namely a small art tablet (personal) and the Cintiq (lab). Cinitqs are great, but kind of....unweildy if you aren't used to a huge monitor. In fact every time I've used one, I've found the screen to be too big because I like to get up onto the monitor which forces me to physically turn my head slightly to see each side of the screen where all the program buttons are. I'm used to working with my laptop which is pretty wide for it's make, but I can still see the full screen. But I've noticed that Cintiqs can require a lot of computer power so if you don't have a good set up on a desktop, you'll face lag. lots of lag. So far Huion has peaked my interest, but I can't tell if they will require a desktop set up or if a laptop of fairly good power can hold it just fine. Has anyone seen anyone/personally tried one with a laptop yet?

    I just received mine last night.. had a few issues to start but managed to figure them out. Two things that are standing out to me while trying to create art.. 1 is that the pressure sensitivity is too sensitive really... if you don't sit your pen tip down applying the same pressure as the previous stroke, you get a wide range of sizes, blotches etc. I have played a little bit around with the configuration and tried setting the pressure to be less sensitive but hasn't mattered much. 2 is the excessive sponginess of the tip, constantly making a clicking sound with a massive impression range. I would love to hear if anyone has attempted to curve these irritations off in settings. I really want to like this tablet.

  • @wahhbajack
    @wahhbajack 7 лет назад +15

    I bought a Cintiq simply because every review I watched that had the bg audio on, the styles squeaked on the screen and I'm like
    "I can't."
    And the Hand being in the way is COMPLETELY a thing with these haha. The 13 HD is 789 USD on Amazon, so it was worth it to me.
    Also I'm wary because cheaper tablets are made with cheaper materials, so I just dont want to spend 400+ dollars for something to break. My Cintiq has taken a beating and it's still LOVELY.
    So I just- I guess I'm too paranoid? Or maybe just such a Wacom loyalist e.e

    • @mmyehokayyy2
      @mmyehokayyy2 7 лет назад +4

      Wahhbajack How long have you had your cintiq? I was initially planning to buy a budget tablet but saw reviews that said they mostly only last for a month or a couple. I am also paranoid and I have a wacom tablet that is now 4 years old and has taken a beating but still working fine. So I guess that's why I'm leaning towards the 13hd even if it's pricier.

      i havent got a pen display but got a normal tablet of HUION, and the " its cheaper because uses cheap materials" is not rly true, is cheaper because wacom is the big one that sells millions and can put the prices they want. And my HUION tablet has 3 years old and still working like the first day even when i dropepd it a couples of times

    • @joserodriguez-fm3jn

      also i have to say the cintiq 13 hd is quite smaller also the pen "only" have 2048 lvls of pressure, whle this one is bigger 8000 levels and half the price....
