- In this installment, we stumbled upon this scene with multiple UC Los Angeles police officers & an individual who was apparently detained when we arrived. One of the officers told us that we were perfectly fine where we were standing. I used some of the police logic back on the officer & told him that His speaking was interfering with my work 😁. As we continued recording, the individual spoke out saying he was only crossing the street. If that was the case , California recently passed a new law de-criminalizing jaywalking, as long as traffic flow is not interfered with. The individual continued saying one car stopped to let him cross, so that might have been the reason for the detainment. Speaking freely while we continued our documenting, we advised to individual his best option would be to not speak any more to incriminate himself any further as police don't typically tell people they have the right to remain silent until they in handcuffs being read their miranda rights. The officers took the individual's finger prints & information came back apparently that he had a felony warrant, so the officers proceeded to place the individual in handcuffs & sat him in the back of the patrol car. Within minutes after doing that, they got into their patrol cars & left the scene.

You've got a new cop who doesn't really know what he is doing. It sounds like the man who was crossing the road had a kind citizen stop to allow him to do that. (that cop was probably right behind that car that stopped - or within very close vicinity) Being new to the force, that cop probably thought that he "should do the right thing"! Obviously for the force and not for the citizens, so he called for back-up to help him do one of his first stops. When, he could'a just let the guy cross. Does this gent look like he can afford much? Probably not. And that warrant could be for something as small as jay-walking from before the law changed. Unbelievable.
Is this more about what their doing and how n why their doing it ?, he may just need to be? #. Strange behavior in itself .

The real problem is this man may not know his rights. Even if the cops violate his rights, no lawyer will take it for free and we know he cant afford one to sue for the civil right infractions.

Cops should have more pressing this to do than harassing the poorer citizens for crossing a road, maybe the cops should investigate why the companies do not have sidewalks along their business forcing pedestrians on to the other side of the road if they just continued walking they would get stopped for pedestrian in the road.
A good example of how people can be stopped for NO crime just to run their ID.

"Nice" socialwork in the US. In 1st world countries (EU/Scandinavia) the "poor" gets help. In a 4th-5th world contry like the us the "poor" get arrested.
All thanks to politicians and bad parenting. America as a whole used to be a wonderful place and still is in many places. America spends more money per capita on on education than any other country in the world....yet teachers are physically assaulted every day by "students" whose parents have failed at their job. Of course the cop doesn't know about the change in the law. Heck we just discovered Officer Freddy Kreuger in Fort Worth PD that body slammed a 57 year old 110 pound lady to the ground 6/23 for not moving fast enough to suit him. He dislocated her shoulder, dislocated her elbow, blacken both eyes, bloodied and cut her lip and nose, all while she was laying unconscious on the ground as he stands over her screaming Stop Resisting. The case law, Turner v. Driver was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2017 as a result of Fort Worth PD misdeeds and Officer Freddy still hasn't learned it. So nuthin new that they guy doesn't know, doesn't listen, doesn't read or doesn't care.

Why have we not raised the legal question of the “war on drugs” being the opposite of our Declaration Of Independence which states we have a right to the pursuit of happiness? This is a legal question that MUST eventually be raised- in my old aged opinion!!!

Other than the notation, I see no other cause to stop search and arrest someone out of UCLA PD jurisdiction....hope the man can get a lawyer to fight this arrest out of UCLA PD jurisdiction.
1:46 That's the exact same law as here in Sweden. You are free do cross the street, and make sure yourself that you don't cross when there is traffic. We don't even have a word for "jaywalking". It's just walking. If you cause an accident you can be charged for it though, it's called "vårdslöshet i trafik" ("recklessness in traffic").
More proof that most policing is a waste of the tax payer’s money. Even when they don’t violate rights. And that’s debatable here because we didn’t get to see whether or not the man deliberately interrupted traffic.

We don't have to wait until we are in cuffs to stop talking to the police. We never have to talk to the police. The only thing we need to say to protect our rights is, I invoke my 5th and 4th amendment right to remain silent. I have nothing else to say. Then SHUT UP and say nothing. A person that says nothing, gives them nothing to use against you.

Omg. Live in Canada esp Vancouver island. We have lots of jay walkers and you as a driver need to be aware at all times and here pedestrians have the right of way. My god leave that man alone. I have gone into grocery stores and subways etc and they have even given me food and drinks for free for the homeless. Be an advocate not a pain in the butt. My god

It seems like with that new Freedom to Walk (or whatever it was called) there won't be any more jaywalking tickets written unless the pedestrian actually gets hit. If a cop tries, then all one needed to say is I reasonably thought i had enough room to cross. The car must have been speeding. Then pull random numbers out of ones rear (or actually have the real calculations) and say if the car is doing 35 mph and the car was 400 yards away, I reasonably had 4.14 sec to cross the street with the width of 24.75 ft. Cops aren't smart enough to argue that one..lol (for the record, I pulled those numbers out of my rear so no need for anyone to say "Nu uhh. you would've only had 3.94 sec")
