DYING TO BE 'BODY GOALS'? THE MOST DANGEROUS INFLUENCER TREND YET.

  • Is it really work risking your life to get a bigger butt or smaller waist…?
These days the pressure put on women to look ‘instagram perfect’ in real life is huge. We’re supposed to have big boobs, tiny waists, huge bums but be tiny everywhere else - you know, the typical ‘slim thick’ Instagram bod. It is SO easy to facetune your way to that body on social media, but much harder (if not impossible) to achieve it in real life. This leads so many women to risking their lives undergoing whats known as a ‘BBL’ - Brazilian Butt Lift. BBLs are problematic for numerous reasons, but most of all they are just pure dangerous. Is it really work risking your life to be ‘body goals’? I don’t think so.

The dangerous and sad thing about the Instagram beauty models is, that so many men and women give the influencers confirmation and tell them how incredibly beautiful they look after the many beauty surgeries. This is so bad and dangerous for the normal (ordinary) women among us, because then we believe that we all have to look like this to be noticed. Thank you Stephanie for reminding us again and again how abnormal the Instagram beauty standards are😘 And they all look the same, btw

I think it would be good to explain why the BBL is deadly. When they transfer the fat they can accidentally inject some of the fat into a blood vessel. This is known as a fat embolism. This embolism then travels throughout the body and gets stuck in areas such as the lungs and brain which can result in sudden death or severe injury because it blocks the blood supply to those areas.

I was a child of the 90's and early 2000's where the ideal female body was starved, skinny and basically had the proportions of a 12-year-old. I grew up thinking my butt was too big. Then I started lifting weights well before it was considered cool and I was known on campus as the weird girl with big thighs who is always eating. All of a sudden around 2013 everybody became obsessed with bigger butts (due to Kim K?) and my "big" behind was the greatest thing ever. I was getting compliments from strangers on the street left and right.. fast forward to 2020 where the beauty standard has shifted yet again and now my formely large behind is too flat and not big enough.
My poor tush has been 1. too fat, 2. too muscular and large, 3. great because it is big enough and 4. not great because it isn't big enough. 😂

Lipo suction and a tummy tuck and a lot of less invasive procedures.
It definitely made me feel 1000% more confident.
Looking back the first thing I should have done was started therapy. No matter what I improve on my body, it's never enough,I always find something else. These social "beauty" standards are getting out of control. I'm tired of seeing everyone look the same 😞 not only do these young ladies have the same body type, but they always dress in a way to show off that hourglass figure. The crop tops, the low cleavage, biker shorts or skin tight jumpsuits.
Sadly I'm not one to love my body but not because of these "influencers". My insecurities come from within my self and it's something I'm trying to work on everyday because I have a daughter and I want her to grow up confident in who she is and not have to worry about what she looks like. Not only her but my son as well. I know one day he'll fall in love and I don't want him to fall into the mindset of these body types being the best. My babies are still little so who knows what the "beauty trend" will be when they're teens, but I hope we can love ourselves enough to not try and fit in with everyone else's expectations :)

Not only surgeries won't promise feeling good about yourself, losing weight and becoming more active are no solutions either. We are only happy with ourselves if we appreciate the way we are, how we look and what we are capable of. Even appreciating imperfections, it's hard but mental health is not just looking good. Maintaining/buildiung a healthy and strong body comes after; or can be part of it.

    • @athena6181
      @athena6181 2 года назад +45

I understand your point and it's a beautiful one but I have to disagree here.. Being active is crucial to your mental health it doesn't come after. Working out is not just to look "good" (whatever the individual deems to be good), it releases endorphins that make you more positive, exercise also works on your vital organs like heart and lungs. All bodies are beautiful because they are unique to each individual! So even when we work out we all have different shapes and sizes and they should all be appreciated but it doesn't change the fact that exercise is vital for both mental and physical health!

I've had this experience with my mum, too. I'm 19 and still live at home, but my mum has put on a bit of weight over the years during middle-age, and hearing "I look so fat!" every second day does take its toll, and ever since I was a little girl she would do that, even before she had put on any weight. When I reached puberty I used to cover up my developing body with baggy clothes as one does look quite awkward during those years, and I hadn't been educated enough about such things so I felt "fat and ugly" for quite some time.
Unfortunately when she was a child and teenager her own mum would often criticise her eating habits, and comment on her weight and her looks. Growing up as a young girl in that sort of environment definitely breeds vanity.

This is so important. My Mom would (still does) always say after a meal that she looks 6 months pregnant, and also complain about fat here or there. I’m slightly taller than her, not a lot, just a couple of inches or so, and there have been several times where I’ve been bigger and substantially heavier than her, she’s very naturally petite. She would still call herself fat but be adamant that I wasn’t, and the extra 2 stone (about 28 lbs I think?) was down to my extra height. In reality, both of us were below average size, but even now I’m very self conscious of being bloated or anything because of the looking-pregnant comments she used to make. Then there was also the “wish I had bigger boobs” comments, and mine have always been smaller, so that’s another thing that plays on my mind even today. I know she had no ill intentions, but hearing it all the time still got to me anyway.

We need to teach self love and acceptance from an early age, so that our children don't grow up heavily influenced by people who aren't comfortable enough in their own skin to play a healthy role model to anyone. Since when did looking like a porn star become the ultimate goal? We call it IG body but everything from proportions to how those people dress is 100% porn star. When did that become the pinnacle of beauty? It was always accepted in the past that the PS look was an almost cartoonish exaggeration that was almost comical in appearance. And I can't understand the motivation of woman who say they are strong, independent, boss babes yet are trying to look like a cartoon version of the feminine ideal and full blown porn stars which is 100% based on the sexual gratification of men. To base your health, self esteem, and concept of beauty on a standard that is in essence an objectification of your body is mine blowing. Porn stars are dehumanized tools for men to get off to... why would anyone want to mimic that aesthetic? Wanting to mimic the appearance of someone who is seen as a plaything and SERVANT to another's sexual whims isn't boss babe vibes or #goals.

I have a weird body like I have thick thighs, skinny lower legs, thick arms, and a round big belly and I have chubby cheeks and when I see influencers and celebs with these beautiful bodies I always wonder why I don't have them honestly there are days when I feel like this and then other days I don't even care but believe it or not I was skinny as a child very very dangerously skinny then people kept telling me to eat and eventually I did then I gained weight as i started my teenage years and got absolutely bullied for eating too much and for being “too fat” and to eat less and that's when I realized that you will never make everyone happy there will always be those who judge but of course I'll always have my insecurities lol now I don't hate my body but I don't necessarily love it it's just the “its the body I have so now I have to deal with it” mindset.

Lack of self esteem. That's what it all comes down to. A lot of the people in the video were reality stars and people who made a lot of money really fast and really young. Imagine being straight out of high school as an insecure teen and then suddenly being given a boat load of money. They barely have time to start the journey to true self acceptance and love before they are in the surgeon's office. It was the first thing I did when I was 18 and I can't believe it but the surgeon genuinely told me to go away and think about it longer because the things I wanted to change were "barely noticeable" and sounded like BDD. Funnily enough I was diagnosed with BDD at 15. I listened to his advice and never got even fillers, and barely wear makeup. I'm 28 now.

I’m a naturally “bottom-heavy” woman. Been this way literally my entire life…even as a little girl, which comes with other problems. People are trying to achieve with a BBL what I have naturally. However, my boobs are small like a B cup and I’ve always wanted breast implants. I never did it because after so much research I’ve realized it wasn’t very safe so I wasn’t willing to risk my life for beauty. It’s gotten a lot safer now; however, it’s still not 100% safe. My body could still reject the foreign objects and I can become very sick. The risk is just not worth the reward. These girls, ladies, women, etc. need to choose their lives over vanity. I watched a video on RUclips this morning from Khadija Mbowe, called "The Reign of the Slim-Thick Influencer". I think you'd really enjoy it. Khadija talks about BBLs in her video too.

what people don’t realize is that there are literally body trends throughout the decades. different body types go in and out of style. you’re never going to make everyone happy, and beauty comes in so many forms. why look the same as everyone else when you can embrace your uniqueness?

You know what’s scary, how, like fashion, body shapes and sizes are coming in and out of trend much more faster. There are some celebrities and influencers already getting their BBLs removed. Are BBLs becoming “out-of-fashion”? The world scares me, but it scares me even more with social media and the digital world.

You are not alone the world is scary. Great observation of the trend of the bbl getting out of trend its now november 2022 and it sure isnt trendy no more.
