This was a very thoughtful response, and good on you for doing your research, but here's something you (and *many* others) are not aware of: The word *vocation* has a very specific religious meaning to Catholics. The term vocation was invented by Catholic theologians in the 15th century and it means a person's spiritual calling, the purpose for which God created them. The term has since been adopted by the secular world to mean "career," but when a Catholic uses it while speaking to other Catholics, they are referring to the religious concept.
In the Catholic faith there are only three possible vocations, two of which are open to women. The three vocations are the married life, the consecrated life, and the priesthood. Only men can join the priesthood, so for women the possible vocations are the married life and the consecrated life. The married life mean to become a wife and mother, while the consecrated life means to become a nun. For men, the vocations are the priesthood, becoming a husband and father, or becoming a monk. You'll notice that none of these has anything to do with a career or a job. That's because vocation and career literally have nothing to do with each other, except that you'll probably need the latter to fulfill the former.
So when Harrison Butker says that Isabelle Butker's vocation is wife and mother, he means that she is not a nun. That is literally all it means. It means that God didn't call her to a life of celibacy dedicated to His glorification. If a Catholic says, "Most women's vocation is to be a wife and mother," they don't mean that most women have to become homemakers, they mean that most women aren't going to become nuns. Wives and mothers can have jobs. For that matter, so can nuns.
Thank you 🙏🏼 I had forgotten this literal Catholic spiritual meaning of the word “vocation” versus a secular career. How to get this meaning out to many more people … ?
You're very open minded! 🙏❤️ ..Very refreshing to hear in this bigoted society.
I see nothing wrong with his speech. It was at a catholic college, and they invited him. People are soft as 💩 nowadays.
Soft is an understatement. My goodness.
The young women graduating from Benedictine College did not deserve to have their hopes and ambitions for their future crushed by this grandiose fool telling them they should all stay home and be mothers. They deserved to be congratulated for what they've already accomplished and inspired by the exciting possibilities for their futures. You know, a graduation speech!
@@voltairegirl2953 Stop being a cry baby. The things he said are true. Many women chase careers only to find out that nothing beats becoming a wife and mother.

Andy Reid, the coach of the Chiefs, lived in Philadelphia when I lived there. Two of his sons became drug dealers in North Philly. It's the main reason the Reid's left Philly and the Eagles for KC. Recently one of Reid's sons relapsed in liquor and permanently injured a young nan in a DUi. He was pardoned sn. d escaped jail. Maybe a man leading his family to family values rather than pursuing deadly sins as a lifestyle is not so bad.
Religion should not be a valid reason for misogyny. That said, he does have the right to share what he believes.
It was a great speech and it was for a Catholic school. He got a standing ovation for it. No reason for people to get mad at something that’s not directed towards them
True. It's like going to a gay convention as a Christian and being offended. Why show up?
Thank you for mentioning the difference between Butker and other NFL players who abuse their wives. The NFL comes out on Butker but is so silent about domestic abusers and the other bad actors in the NFL. Which would you rather have as a role model??
Why was the applause conveniently cut from the first video?? It was well accepted by the audience.
The NFL already has a domestic violence problem, not to mention the S. trafficking problem at their games, and the fact that their players are a violent crime wave wherever they go, but Butner's speech is the real cherry on top of it alll.
Excellent breakdown. ☺️👍🏽
Anyone who decides to follow The Lord Jesus Christ will be persecuted. This is what the scriptures tell us. So by him sharing biblical principles openly, there will always be persecution. It is no surprise that there is resistance to the truth. We are living in a society that desires to call good evil, and evil good. A world of moral relativism where right and wrong are erased. And if you stand for truth you will be villanised.
I rejoice greatly to see that man and everyone else who stands for the truth which can only be found in The Lord Jesus Christ. As He has told us, "ye are the light of the world". And so we must walk worthy of the vocation wherewith He has called us.
How is it "racist"? Craziness.
He’s fine. He has a great outlook. I’m not religious but billions are. Respect. Mother hood is the most important job in the whole universe. Nothing is more special and wonderful.
He doesn't need to lose his job over a religious speech. There's too many religious hypocrites that deny the true meaning of their beliefs and are really quick to degrade others.
Can you clarify that? How does Butker "deny the true meaning" of his beliefs? Why do you call him a hypocrite? I'm just wondering if I missed something.
@@clshady3051 Biggest and everyday example:
Christians following and idolizimg crooks and cons. When it states in the Bible.."Thou shalt not worship any false idol". His message was very sweet, and as a woman in her mid thirties, i want that! I don't want to have to work a corporate job - i would love to be able to be a more traditional wife and mother and care for the home and my husband.
Almost 50 percent of marriages end in divorce. When a woman gives up her job to raise a family and keep a household she loses her career progress and financial independence. Meanwhile the Man progresses his career, becoming more financially valuable. When the divorce after many years he is in a good position. If she doesn't get half, she is in a terrible position. She has to start from scratch.
@@artetaDagoatMoney isn’t everything. Life is short, and children grow up very fast. Part-time work lets you keep your foot in the door of a career. Also, you can take a few years off when the children are small. Why give up the happiest time of your life out of fear of “what might happen”? That’s letting fear run your life and very foolish in my opinion.

About the only place men are superior to women is in athletics. Even then we are talking about elite men and women not internet commentators. There are girls who can bench more than me or beat me in a race. For all those saying “he has a right to speak his opinion,” literally *NOBODY* is keeping him from doing so or suggesting he have his first amendment rights withdrawn.
When the only defense you can muster to support someone’s words is that they have the right to utter them, it’s a sign that the assertions themselves don’t have a leg to stand on.
I’m not even commenting on the substance of the speech, but rather the immediate claims to victimhood communicated by those who are desperate to identify with it.
It’s not a sign that the assertions don’t have a leg to stand on. No. But it is a sign that his views are not what the loudest voices agree with. And the loudest voices, in this case, Want to silence dissenting views. It has NOTHING to do with the actual validity of what Harrison Butker said.
@@flowergirl-pp7vz Hey, we found some common ground: any conversations appealing to free speech or attempts to silence people have absolutely nothing to do with what was said.
Nobody is trying to silence you. Pull yourself together.
Rachel do you know Chrissy?
I think butker should be able to voice his opinion it really speaks volumes about the nfl that they condemn this and not other players your kidding yourself if u really think they care about women they only care about your wallet
The NFL only reinforced their stance on DEI. They were pressured by people starting petitions to fire him. They just said they continue to be inclusive, they made no comments on the rest of the speech. I'm glad they shut it down early. I think they also had the right to comment because Butker openly states his NFL platform gives him his platform to be a speaker (and influencer is part of that). The NFL Chair and a couple players were asked. They answered. 🤷♀️
Agree or disagree ...like or dislike....at the end of the day....what man would not want his Daughter to marry Harrison Butker?
What do you think of Kaepernick. Now there is a role model for you.
He doen't even sound like a Catholic. He says through his marriage he and his wife are going to achieve salvation. That's not Catholicism. It sounds more like Mormonism or maybe the Quiverfull movement. He was denounced by Pope Francis and a bunch of nuns.
Marrige is a Catholic Sacrament
But I think he wasn't being literal in that sense
He is affiliated with Opus Dei. An elitist very far right extremist group. He quotes "Saint" Josemaria Esciva, the founder, early in his speech. He is close to Josh Hawley as well. Seems he is being groomed by both.
I believe people are too sensitive to words and actions that don't align with their own beliefs. Every individual has their own way of looking at things. Each individual within a religion can also have their own interpretations within it. It's sad that people get butt hurt over someone's beliefs. In my opinion, he didn't say anything bad. He was stating the importance of his own beliefs and the importance his wife has in his own life.
Butker has every right to be ignorant. Doesn't mean we shouldn't call it out.
We have lived that way for thousands of years, feminism and popular culture trying to reinvent the wheel is ignorant.
#ignorance
Misogny. Males entitled to women life and using whatever they want religion whatever still misogynistic sexist.
The Bible is no where near as misogynistic as Butker. The only specific thing the Bible is against is women heading the church. A Proverbs 31 woman contributed financially to her household, for which she oversaw. Butker should read it.
As a Christian, I have not heard his speech. However, he does have the right to share his religious belief.
Have you heard it as a catholic? What about atheist? Maybe Muslim? I know you heard it as a monk 😂

Right or wrong depends on what you believe in. There are women who aim to form a family and support their husbands (or wives) taking care of their homes and children, they aren't wrong for that. There are women who want to seek success in their careers, be indepent and may or may not have a family, they're not wrong either. It's just personal life choice. What he can't do is dictate what she should or not do with her life. What he can do is choose a person who believes in the same stuff he does.
Cringe normie word salad
@@cbeaudry4646 who still says cringe in 2024?
A major issue is that he believes all women have only one calling. He literally claims it's the only way to salvation. That's where I take issue. People are ignoring that important part of his speech and belief.
The speech was atleast impart about understanding the disfunction and perversion of the culture around us and not to become silenced by a Degenerat and unraveling society!
Karen's" HOLD MY BEER 😂
Watch the spelling and capitalization, please. By degenerate and unraveling you mean, I think, people who have responded to the sexual, gay, and women's revolutions by leaving the standards of the 1950s behind. Society and culture always move forward. Modernization cannot be stopped any more than advances in technology. This seems to make some people upset and fearful. I am sorry for them, but the genie of progress will not be put back in the bottle --and it shouldn't be. How far back would you like to go? Maybe rather than the 1950s, we should return to the standards of the turn of the 20th century. Or the 1600s.
