Thanks for the continued high quality and motivational cycling videos Leonard. As a somewhat older and relatively heavier rider myself, your vlogs over the last few years have inspired me to continue to do harder things on my bike 😁
nice vlog Leonard, you're absolutely smashing those local loops now - all that cycling early on in the year is really paying off - strong, fast rides and pacing it - nice one :)
Hey Afzal, this will be the third time I’ve tried replying to your comment. For some reason RUclips is blocking my reply???
@@jollygoodvelo hey Leonard...I dunno? this comment got through though :) anyway, like lots of others have said, well done getting fitter and faster - I won't even be able to keep up in the car behind you at this rate!! have a good bank hols weekend
Solid effort there Leonard, chapeau. You gotta love local roads, we're blessed with a great variety.
Aren’t we just.
Last couple of years you have had ups and downs of getting out and riding … there have been times when your energy levels or get up and go have been low … the recent rides abroad seem to have rekindled your enthusiasm … I simply believe your improved general endurance/fitness/enjoyment have brought you back to the Leonard we knew pre-COVID … plus it’s now enjoyable watching your vlogs even more than usual due to your new found energy … thank you and well done 👍🏾
I think ups and downs are part of any cyclists life.
Looking good Leonard!
You Are A Strong Rider. Great Video.
Well done on getting fitter and faster
Thanks.
Looking good Leonard , the fitness must be really coming nicely. You’ve had a great year.
Yes, thank you
congratulations, you made it look easy. I hope you can continue to challenge yourself now that you are back home.
A pretty regular route for me up to the Bat and Ball. Usually go straight across and climb up to Mercury which always reminds that I am 80 this year, but the down hill to the Meons is worth it.
That’s a tough climb up to Mercury.
Don't bring two tribbles together, you'll have three dozen by the end of your ride! Looks like you were going really fast in some sections. Well done!
I understand they reproduce very quickly!
I am impressed Leonard, easy to see (from my perspective) that your fitness levels have really improved. You really appear to be going a lot faster than before. Holidays OS and the time to spend on the bike have served you well. A rel speed demon now! Good on you!
Always room for more Tribbles! Really enjoy your VLOG Leonard.
It is always good to feel stronger and faster. Hope you enjoy your rides ahead.
Great stuff Leonardo - a great year on the bike so far! 🎉❤
Let’s hope it continues
Hi Leonard, got the 4.9 Madone di2, the grey and red, the year before yours and its a great bike. Dead cheap to buy and in mint condition, easy to maintain and I fitted the Bontrager race xxx lite carbon wheels 20yrs old and the bike goes as good if not better than the modern disc brake bikes around at stupid prices. Glad you also like the bike. Great video's keep em coming
They are great bikes.
Like your sky-hook camera.
The local routes are always welcome when you come back from riding a long hard ride somewhere else. I have a familiar loop I ride regularly and when I did the first time after a weekend ride I actually surprised myself. Sometimes a ride away can be more beneficial than it seems at the time.
Congratulations, Leonardo, on a fast lap!
Isn't it a great feeling when you realize you've ridden up an incline in a higher gear than usual?
Well, my friends tell me it is.
Absolutely!
That was great, Leonard! I could really feel your enjoyment of that ride come through.
I’m enjoying the rides at the moment.
Well done and a nice ride 😊👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you 👍
Great vid mate. Chuffed you are seeing the benefit of all your riding. The fitness improvements get addictive, have fun :)
Thanks, will do!
Great video Leonard!
Thanks Nathan.
Wow, Leonard! You was on fire on that ride. I can definitely see your fitness improvement. FYI, the New Forest is looking fabulous at the moment. Lots of new born donkeys, ponies etc and the purple Rhododendrons are in bloom. Let me know if you fancy a visit and need a tour guide.
Hey Philip, I think a ride in the New Forest sounds good. Let’s arrange one for the next couple of weeks
Nice ride and beautiful roads.
It sure is!
From Oz … Ah, the joys cf May and all it brings in nature and recreational opportunities. Maybe next year, I’ll be over there again to enjoy the sunshine - oh, and showers! Keep up the good work.
Yep, plenty of showers.
Nice ride Leonard. It's nice to see some greenery.
Can’t move for green here!
@@jollygoodvelo it's very dry and desert here in Malta.
Looking quite buff there, Leonard! Keep it up!
Fun ride in that weather
It was. Could have been a bit warmer and a bit less windy, though.
I’m a big fan of the local loop - I have 2 - a 12.5 mile and 25 mile, with some challenging climbs. I record my efforts on my Garmin, and if I just need a familiar training ride, they’re great - I know roughly how long they’ll take, and I don’t have to think about the routes, so I can concentrate on fitness, stamina and getting better at riding. If I want a longer ride, I just do the loop twice!
Or find another local route with the distance and elevation to suit.
Know Edneys Lane/Old Mill Lane very well, I normally cross at the Bat & Ball and up the long cheeky hill to the old HMS Mercury site then there's a nice run to West Meon. Beautiful part of Hampshire.
Ohh, that’s a tough climb. Fantastic when you get to the top, though.
Great job Mike. Keep up the good work doing the same thing myself good job.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😮
Thanks but who’s Mike?
I think he meant "mate"?
@@jollygoodvelo😆😂
@@rollandjoeseph Ah, that makes sense. Bloody autocorrect.
Looked like You were flying fast 💪
I was feeling good!
I like your local rides. Not far from me. Tribbles- beam me up Scottie 😂
I’m glad someone got it.
@@jollygoodvelo As you said, we're showing our age 🤣
Ha, ha. I am also a member of the Tribble club.
I'm the other way round Leonard. Average cadence for a ride been 70rpm for years and slowly working my way towards 80 these days. Nice to see the insta360 x4 in action
Hi Rob, there is no right or wrong with cadence; it’s what ever you feel right with. That said, I think my 90 rpm was a bit frantic, maybe??
Don't know, think that's average for the pros. They are also averaging 300 to 400w at that cadence though 😉
@@vengermanu9375 Blimey, they must be riding some pretty high gears.
@@jollygoodvelomy natural rhythm is 80-85. On gentle downslope or tailwinds i prefer 90 ish. Up hill is way slower
Local rides. Well, the only time I rode ever which didn't equate to local rides where I lived at any one time was in Las Vegas to meet a girl five years ago. Took my hybrid bike in the back of my Tacoma and rode every morning pretty much just after sex, so that was a nice deal. Life would be a heck of a lot better with that always in play! Gosh that was a nice few days! Albeit not the best place to ride a bike. Had to really watch it with the cars and the traffic and the layout. As I remember there were bike obstacles on the sidewalk that you had to negotiate because the street was too dangerous in places. Yes and all that without a helmet because I have skills and coordination. Imagine that. On the gearing like you mentioned, I've tended to at least go one gear higher for a lot of places and hills. Sometimes simply sticking to like 4th or 5th for the entire ride. Part of that is having a traditional shifting arrangement with a lever on the frame, where you simply have less interest in shifting. But definitely part of that is simply being stronger and lighter than I was before I had the current steel road bike. A thirty pound difference means a lot for cycling or any sport. Doesn't everyone know what a Tribble is? We had some funny spiky cacti around Tucson and I always felt they were basically Tribbles with spikes, if you can imagine that.
Star Trek ! Episode: 'The Trouble with Tribbles, haha
Chapeau on 3000km year to date. Just checked my own and 1503km! Half.
Then checked 2023 and 2000 ytd. Knew I had dropped off a little this year due to various factors. Will pick it up from now as less busy.
Good luck!!
I swear, you are even looking fitter. Nice job!
I have lost a few Kgs since Jan…but then I didn’t put a few on over Christmas.
Nice km length. Im nearly at 3000 km, I think (2993 IIRC)
When I want to set PRs I take my DaVinci out. Hardly ridden it this year though
PRs are fun but so is just riding.
Hi Leonard, been watching your channel for some time, and has inspired me to get out on the bike and do some (local) travelling to around London and to get fit (having just turned 50). I've just got myself an Insta360 cam, and was wondering if you need/use a wiresless mic, or whether the cam on the bike mount is good for recording voiceover when the roads are not too busy.
myself and few friends are heading to West Sussex (staying chichester) next weekend, and I'm hoping to get some good video footage of the area and our riding ventures.
I would say that you don’t necessarily need a radio mic but maybe some kind of wind muff over the mics. When cycling along the wind noise can be deafening.
Enjoy cycling around Chichester. I’m not too far from there so if you see me riding my bike be sure to say hello.
Wow i am just under 1000 km may 24.. but start later in the year. Generally do 4-5 thiusnad km a year. Age 67 and weigh 230 now but dropping. Last year hit 205
Good luck.
good going, your looking a bit fitter...my friend.
Nice.)
Thanks.
Have you lost weight? You look a little slimmer! Great to see you riding more and feeling fitter.
Hey Charlie. I’ve managed to lose a few kgs but this camera angle is very flattering.
Well done Leonard, you put me to shame lol... it also looks like you lost some weight, so kudos!
Hi Leonard.
Quick questions do you have a favorite hydration drink and do yo include electrolytes? 1:13
Not really, I just tend to use whatever I have at the time.
@@jollygoodvelo Thanks, keep it up.🚴♀️
What model trek is it a domane?. Turning into a racing snake leonard!!!.
It’s à Madone 4.9. I’ve got a very long way to go to be one of those.
Do really do about 300watts average when you ride?
When I’m climbing, yes…sometimes a bit higher. On a ride like this it averages about 200 for the hour.
Curious on the camera… someone sitting backwards on a motorcycle?
It’s a 360 camera with an invisible selfie stick
Hi Leonard is this X4 footage?
It is.
I sent this as I was watching just got up to the bit where you explained. Quality is pretty good on my TV.
@@richybin8677 Thanks for letting me know. I did wonder. I watched it back on my TV and was a little disappointed with the image quality but I don’t know how to change the video resolution. On the iPad it plays in 4K and looks pretty good but it is a much smaller screen.
@jollygoodvelo I think you can still tell the difference between the X4 and the normal action cams but the difference seems less than the X3.
Ah, a local TT.
It’s not a TT course. It’s just a route that I ride and try to beat my hour.
@@jollygoodvelo That’s what I meant, a personal target. Well done. A good ride.
How could you forget France and Italy?
Because I have t been there this year.
Now it‘s visible for everyone: You have lost weight!
I’ve lost a few kgs but I also think this is a flattering camera angle.
Replace the carbs with fats and protein. Eat more, lose weight (if you maintain the active lifestyle).
Sounds like a keto diet.
@@jollygoodvelo Doesn't have to be all-in (aka keto). Just a shift. And don't worry about the carbs in raw fruit.
Where you ride is of no importance..it's HOW you ride...Sometimes, I think, it's a lack of respect to not be riding your best and then going to expensive places doing it....Kind of a waste of the privilege!!!
I kind of get it but I think it does depend on where you ride as well.
Watching your thighs massaging your gut when peddling upwards is mesmerizing 😮
Glad to know I tickle your pickle.
