Trying to decide if to just buy another new V20 (which you can get super cheap) or jump to something new, there just isn't much out there that can do what this beast can, battery life is my only complaint, and at this point the 820 is a little slow.
Moved from V20 to V30, which has good battery life so did not miss the removable battery much. 835 was a large jump from the 820, that alone was worth it. OLED was nice too.

I found an lg v30 on the side of a river in a submerged canoe 2 months ago. Been looking for the owners ever since. Couldnt find the owners so my friend gave me the phone. Unfortunately for me, it was locked to tmobile and the imei was blacklisted. So i spent $60US for a verizon/unlocked motherboard and swapped them out. Now i have a really nice phone, thst fully works, for only $60 and an hour of my time
Really, I was sold an LG v20 on ebay and it's been locked since one year, can you really buy unlocked motherboard for $60??? I'll have to get mine can you tell me how?
V50 is the V40 with more memory, 5G capability ( that's why your battery life suffers - use dark theme - it help big time ), and an upgraded Snapdragon 855 vs 845 chip. Not worth the money. I have a V40 - should have gotten that for $620.00 now. I won't upgrade to the V50 - simply not worth the money. And you still get the same Hi-Fi Quad Dec.
I have been on the fence about this subject for several months. I was thinking about the V40 at the end of last year, but wanted to wait until it was cheaper. But now the V50 is out. I think your advice is still spot on. I'm not a heavy user, so I think upgrading my V20 to the V40 makes sense, but I also had a G3 many years ago, and the new G8 looks pretty cool as well...
@@diegomontoya8889 If screen size is not an issue, the G8 ( 6.1" screen ) technically would be a better bet for many reasons; TOF sensor - true 3D facial recognition; 128gb internal storage / twice the V40 with SIM tray upgradable to 2tb; OLED display - same as V40; Larger battery; Can get it in some places for $640.00; Android Pie out of the box; Snapdragon 855 processor vs 845 on the V40 And you still get the Quad DAC and fingerprint reader - this clown doesn't think the fingerprint reader is as secure a 2D facial recognition- that was stupid for him say.
maybe I missed it but did you make any mention of sound quality of external speakers? I'm assuming they're dual front facing and sound fantastic since this is the V line, tho I think one yr at least it had single speaker 🔊 Love your vids!

JT - this is the niche. Audio and tech enthusiasts. To put it bluntly, can't trust anyone else who dismisses the headphone jack. Great video. Extremely disappointed with the Note 10 (and 10 pro/plus) not having a headphone jack, although crossing my fingers that it's compensated with a DAC enabled Type-C to 3.5 dongle.
As a carpenter I've I unlocked my v30 with complete dusty hands with little bits of glue on it and no issues. Meanwhile my work colleague has a S10 and always can't use his front reader
I used to run on a LG G4 for 4 years but just 3 days ago bought the G8s, and I wanted to get another LG phone because of the great camera's and mostly because of the Quad DAC. My question now is, I'm running mostly with Sennheiser IE80's, I have HD6XX Massdrop edition at home but they are open back so not gonna use them when I'm on the move. (Sounds amazing when I plug those in). But my IE80's are only 16 Ohms, frankly I love audio but I don't know enough about it. Does the low impedance hold the Quad DAC back? or are the IE80's of a sufficient high quality that the impedance doesn't matter. sorry if this question sounds dumb, I love high quality audio, Thats why I bought the phone and because I love LG phones but I don't know enough about audio in general. EDIT: Damn I just found out the G8s doesn't have the Quad DAC :( I'm so sad now :'(

V40 fingerprint reader was also very good. Glad to see that you are trying something different. I had to order my case on Amazon and I had to wait several weeks for a good one after using a cheap one in the meantime
It's sad but not sad at the same time because the V50 is an okay phone, but they tarnished their brand way back with the G4, G5, V10, V20 bootloops and terrible screens that ghosts. On top of that, they are notorious in the tech community to seldom release fast updates. Which is why this phone barely gets any coverage. If you really are interested, just wait like 6 months, because the prices will tank.
I tried to love LG, I really did. I had the V10, switched to the V30 and at last the V40. The V10 had a lot of problems with the display and would reboot 5 times a day. After sending it to repairs for the 5th time I chose to exchange it for an S7 Edge. The V30 had terrible screen problems with uneven lighting and was hard to see on low brightness I had to send that phone away for 3 times before the screen was acceptable. At last I had the V40 and that phone was pretty good until about a week in. The battery was so bad it drained itself 20% per hour even after multiple factory resets. I was like hell no I'm not going to do this again and so I exchanged that phone for a Oneplus 7 Pro. Also LG sucks ass with updates.
J I have one question for you is the LG G5 still a good device to use in 2019? I don't game I just watch the news and watch RUclips videos like this on it is it worth it or should I get a upgraded model? Or the LG G5 just fine and will last. There's nothing wrong with it it's in really good shape except in the case. Let me know your advice if I should replace it or not.?
It's fine recommending an lg phone if you switch back and forth between different phones all the time but LG have killed themselves off by not updating there phone's. Since I've had the of g6 it's received a grand total of two software updates... They become hard to recommend for this reason personally OnePlus is my new go to or even xiaomi
I loved LG once had 3 of them but my G6 was overheating while using 4g , lagged numerous of times made no sense I removed the only game I had & went bear minimal , slow to update. My phone now is Vivo v15 I feel I was duped by LG in the end . Personal experience only not trying to put people off.
what???? worst battery? You can buy 6 batterys for under a hundred bucks and go for a week just changing them out in under a minute. so no worst battery bs
The V50 is a phone I was interested in but wasn't readily available for purchase with other carriers besides sprint. I also wanted the second screen but was impossible to find??
Does it still have the knock function? I've had LG for so long and have gotten so used to this feature, that I find it incredibly annoying when I use my husband's Samsung for something and start tapping the screen to wake it up, and it does nothing.
@@inspectahgadget3725 The V30 is yet to receive Pie as far as I'm aware, and in about 2 weeks my pixel 2 will be running Android Queef officially, that's frankly unacceptable given they're the same age (I'm aware others do it too, but even the S8 has had pie for a minute now)

The only problem with the V50 is that it will never get an Android update from LG. I have the V30 and it’s still stuck at Android 8.0. Great phone, love it, but LG sucks at sending out updates.
The LG V phones are the best for me. I want the best sound and a headphone jack, and a phone which can actually drive my good headphones. And I want to make photos and videos for Skillshare. And I want a decent phone for all the other phone stuff. I still miss the second screen, the floating bar is not replacement for me. But that's secondary. LG makes amazing phones. Having an LG V phone saves me from buying a camera for videos, an amp to drive my phone and a DAC for music. So it really saves me a lot of money.
The problem with LG is a thermal issue that has been around since the G4. They run hot under load and malfunction too early in their lifecycle. No thanks. Already been stung by LG.
They fixed that issues years ago, it was only the G4 and V10 generation that was really fucked. G5s and V20s were pretty good, then they get their shit together with the G6 and V30

He's old bro...
Still using my V20, spectacular phone, but I've replaced the screen twice now and managed to smash it again, the connectors inside are getting a little too worn to do it again now though. Trying to decide if to just buy another new V20 (which you can get super cheap) or jump to something new, there just isn't much out there that can do what this beast can, battery life is my only complaint, and at this point the 820 is a little slow.
Ur thought is similar to mine!
Moved from V20 to V30, which has good battery life so did not miss the removable battery much. 835 was a large jump from the 820, that alone was worth it. OLED was nice too.
Does v50 has HiFi audio recording similar to V20?
I love my LG V50...and you are right about it.
So this is a CDMA/GSM hybrid right? So once I have paid this off how will my Sprint version work if I end up living overseas? I know Japan has some CDMA network, but most other countries don't. I've been searching for an answer online, but I still don't quite understand if this phone will be good to go if I wind up living somewhere in Europe or somewhere elsewhere in the world running on GSM. Any information you or others could provide would be most appreciated. Thanks!
Off topic, what hair products do you use ? Thank you.
@@diegomontoya8889 If screen size is not an issue, the G8 ( 6.1" screen ) technically would be a better bet for many reasons;
TOF sensor - true 3D facial recognition;
128gb internal storage / twice the V40 with SIM tray upgradable to 2tb;
OLED display - same as V40;
Larger battery;
Can get it in some places for $640.00;
Android Pie out of the box;
Snapdragon 855 processor vs 845 on the V40
And you still get the Quad DAC and fingerprint reader - this clown doesn't think the fingerprint reader is as secure a 2D facial recognition- that was stupid for him say.
@@Audiomainia2310 Good to know. I'll see if I can get my hands on one somewhere to give it a quick test drive. Thanks for the input.
maybe I missed it but did you make any mention of sound quality of external speakers? I'm assuming they're dual front facing and sound fantastic since this is the V line, tho I think one yr at least it had single speaker 🔊 Love your vids!
Love my V30, sadly it will be my last LG because of their pathetic Android updating schedule.
You Can use a custom rom with the latest updates and security patches
Using my v30 with official pie update but couldn't care less about updates
i hate how everybodys almost getting android q and we are here with our v30s like hello oreo
@@ghost-writer007 its really hard if you dont have a v30 variant that supports bootloader unlocking
Bought LG G7 One for exactly the same reason. Bought it for CAD$240, two years contract on black Friday. So far solid performance, monthly security patches are great. Hope they will keep their promise and update the phone to next two major android version.
I didn’t hear you mention the dual screen case that is sold with it. Have you used the dual screen?
I really like my v40. It has a headphone jack 😎
Hey guys... I'm on the G7...had Lg for years... Love LG... How does the iPhone 11 compare to LG 8X???
"You can touch it just about anywhere and any way and it will work" ... I want this phone to be my girlfriend.
EDIT: Damn I just found out the G8s doesn't have the Quad DAC :( I'm so sad now :'(
Jason Love your Reviews and Videos and Yes LG should definitely be get a little more attention because I just picked up one for my Son not to long ago and always hear some gripes about one thing or another but he has always been LG fan so he is really enjoying his device with that said I liked it as well
So Thanks so much for sharing this one and really enjoyed Deb 😉👍✌
If I only listen to Spotify on easy to drive iems, would the V50 still make a difference in sound quality? Or is the quad dac meant for high res files and hard to drive headphones
Typing this on my LG V50! Yes it is the best! 😁 I turned off the Google Assistant button because I kept pressing it by accident.
Just say ok Google for Assistant.
I have LG G7 thinq , very nice phone as well. Display on LG phones is great. Audio quality is great. Somehow I have never pressed that Google button , forgot it's there 😂
Great video subbed
Amazing sound out of that jack! 🎧🎼
V40 fingerprint reader was also very good. Glad to see that you are trying something different. I had to order my case on Amazon and I had to wait several weeks for a good one after using a cheap one in the meantime
PAINFULLY HONEST TECH I told you several times to get the V40 last year which was by most accounts a lot better than the previous models you’d had
I can't believe bootloops are still being spoken about when that hasn't been a thing for a few years. Updates are what kills it for me to buy them
I liked my LG G5 but yeah the Screen Burn was a downside. I liked the Modular design.
I'm using V40, can we use recent LG's dual screen for that?
I’d definitely consider this if I was in the market for a $1k phone, but I don’t think I want to spend more than 400 or so. The pixel 3a is my max.
LG G7 is like 300 now
Se here so I got the op7 pro. Though the pixel isn't bad at all
J I have one question for you is the LG G5 still a good device to use in 2019? I don't game I just watch the news and watch RUclips videos like this on it is it worth it or should I get a upgraded model? Or the LG G5 just fine and will last. There's nothing wrong with it it's in really good shape except in the case. Let me know your advice if I should replace it or not.?
Stopped watching when you mentioned the $999 price! Normal people will not pay one grand for ANY phone....
Just wait 4-6 months and it'll drop to $700
On eBay it’s around $400
Don't worry it's a lot of bang for your buck,
Besides if you can wait it comes down in price very quickly,
Yet it's always a great line of phones.
The price will drop quickly. It will be a third of the price by the end of the year.
Lol almost every customer spends almost that with payments buddy
yeah but does it get sizzling hot like all other LG phone and go into boot loop or crash
Luke ET I don’t see the problem with receiving 2 software updates RUclips is supported on android 4.4.2 kitkat
@@tochi3291 LG made a promise in 2016 to support monthly security patches...
Luke - are LG not pushing out monthly security patches? If not that's a deal breaker for me on any phone.
@@goodoldjr83 no last security patch my leg g6 received was in 2018

Man I’m gonna buy another one. They going for super cheap!!! I muss mine!
does it have an led notif?
Led notifier is on screen
The v50 or the 60 ? Which one should I get I'm not going to get any of the new ones I return my s21 ultra I'm selling my one plus 8
And i'm still using my LG V20, still the best phone for me
but v20 wrost btry bckup
what???? worst battery? You can buy 6 batterys for under a hundred bucks and go for a week just changing them out in under a minute. so no worst battery bs
My v20 with a brick zerolemon says hello! Weighs a ton but lasts 3 days on heavy usage. 😳
I can't seem to find LG v50 dual SIM is there such a thing? Lots of G8 dual SIM on eBay but no v50
sad that LG smartphones were pulled out from my country.
Just buy one on eBay unlocked big deal.
The V50 is a phone I was interested in but wasn't readily available for purchase with other carriers besides sprint. I also wanted the second screen but was impossible to find??
I just got the V50 and realized the US version does not work with the second screen case. Not metal connector on back :(
I own V30+ .. best in class battery camera and display. DTS support Head phone jack
Still stick with my lg v30+, better wait for years till lg v50 price drop
Does it still have the knock function? I've had LG for so long and have gotten so used to this feature, that I find it incredibly annoying when I use my husband's Samsung for something and start tapping the screen to wake it up, and it does nothing.
I got this phone as soon as it was released for verizon. Amazing phone overall and no issues so far. Great review
To think Two years ago this cost 999$ and today I can get it used for only 200$
I’ve got the lg g8 in carmine red. Awesome phone 👍
How is the boombox speakers? I heard g7 is better
Which is best lg v50 or lg velvet?
People don't buy LG's because even the flagships never get updated
"Never get updated?" Stop lying!

Dude same that glass is weak as shit. Camera glass too
go on ebay buy another screen and repair it then. It was only a select batch of shitty american phones that had bad glass. Ive had my lgv20 h990ds since launch and its fallen of a speeding car and didnt break the glass. dropped from a roof, bench, balcony etc etc still not a scratch, just in a cheap ebay case with ebay glass screen protector.
The only problem with the V50 is that it will never get an Android update from LG. I have the V30 and it’s still stuck at Android 8.0. Great phone, love it, but LG sucks at sending out updates.
My ucnles v30 has pie
✋ Here's a crisp high five from a fellow Iowan.
Do you still get bloatware or lagging after you install Nova Launcher?
LG V50 is the best 5G LG smartphone
Starting with LG v20, they've been mainly stable and dont run hot. They fixed their hardware issues long ago.
@@bl00dkillz The V20 had the same issue. A buddy of mine returned his inside the return window because of it.
Can you shut the 5G radio off? If so, is the battery life any better?
LG makes better phones than half the top Android phones.
Is this phone available through Sprint?
Money says Marques brownlee (mkbhd)!says it’s a “jack of all trades But master one none “ like he does for every LG device lol
Yeah, "master of none"... Marques either has no ears or just doesn't think wired audio performance has any relevance to his audience.
What headed phones do you recommend for the LG G8
And here I'm, still rocking my V20 :v
Same here. Never forget, we V20 users can always hit that little button and swap out our batteries while taunting "can your $1000+ phone do that?" :-p
I can't tell from this review - does it have a camera? I like my V30 for its audio and photo, but cannot find the V50 in Canada.
You know where You can shove this up for $1000!? GTFO!
Grab a Note 9 512GB $700 instead.
Completely agree. The Note 9 seems superior than this.
are you stupid or something?
Note 9 is last gen.
If you wanna compare the v50 to a note, compare it with the note 10 (999$)
