4000mah battery, headphone jack, microsd, lg cameras. Sounds really great. On the other side, headphone jack is something very simple. Contains 3 wires, left, right, ground. Wondering why manufacturers didnt generate a standard with a smaller audio jack that replaces the 3.5mm standard audio jack (to make more room inside the phones).
Because Apple. Because stupid. gullible consumers. Because how else would they force you to buy inferior sounding, but, much more expensive wireless earbuds?
Thanks for reviewing this LG phone, V50. LG has the best Audio DAC in any smart phones! The ES9218P used in V50 has "analog volume control", that's audiophile grade volume control.
The Problem with the Lg V50 is that it is almost the exact same as the Lg G8 thinq both have OLED screens, both have a fantastic Hifi Quad Dac for their headphone Jacks, Cameras nearly the same but one extra camera, ect but missing 5g. I can buy a Lg G8 thinq for 650$ at best buy or the Lg G7 Thinq for 400$ new unlocked. You can also buy the Lg V35 thinq for 300$ unlocked. All the phones i listed have pratically the same specs as each other. The LG V50 is a fantastic phone but a 1000$ is too expensive when I can buy all these other phones that are all just like the Lg V50 for less than half the price. Its a no for me.

Second Take both are pretty useless for the majority of the people though. I get the audio jack for audiophiles but we’ve moved on to wireless and people just use wireless headphones (or included headphones) 5G is totally useless for the majority also for reasons that don’t need explaining.
I found an lg v30 on the side of a river in a submerged canoe 2 months ago. Been looking for the owners ever since. Couldnt find the owners so my friend gave me the phone. Unfortunately for me, it was locked to tmobile and the imei was blacklisted. So i spent $60US for a verizon/unlocked motherboard and swapped them out. Now i have a really nice phone, thst fully works, for only $60 and an hour of my time
Really, I was sold an LG v20 on ebay and it's been locked since one year, can you really buy unlocked motherboard for $60??? I'll have to get mine can you tell me how?
One major feature that LG phone's have that I love is, tap to wake and sleep. No always having to push a power button, just to sleep your phone or wake it. Many, many fancy phone s, don't have that built in. And just try downloading an app like that. Just bought a v50, yeah I know, behind the time's, but I will NEVER, pay 900 plus bucks, for a 2 year, toy. Thanks.
If I'm not mistaken, Ohms and Sensitivity are entirely different measurements. Ohms is the amount of resistance a pair of headphones has, Sensitivity is how much they output per some given amount of power. This is why headphones like the HiFiMan HE6 are amongst the hardest to drive even though they're only 50 Ohms.
As a carpenter I've I unlocked my v30 with complete dusty hands with little bits of glue on it and no issues. Meanwhile my work colleague has a S10 and always can't use his front reader
I wanted to get a V50 but I would have had to change carriers from AT&T to Sprint or Verizon. AT&T doesn't have it yet. I also would have had to pay full price. So, since the 5g network isn't up and running widely for a couple of years, I got a new V40 for less than half price. I'm happy with the LG V40.
JT - this is the niche. Audio and tech enthusiasts. To put it bluntly, can't trust anyone else who dismisses the headphone jack. Great video. Extremely disappointed with the Note 10 (and 10 pro/plus) not having a headphone jack, although crossing my fingers that it's compensated with a DAC enabled Type-C to 3.5 dongle.
my LG V20 finger print reader has always worked pretty much flawlessly. It's always been fast and it especially works well if you add multiple profiles for your unlock fingers.
I have LG G7 thinq , very nice phone as well. Display on LG phones is great. Audio quality is great. Somehow I have never pressed that Google button , forgot it's there 😂

I have the v40 and love it. I don't think 1k is a bad price point for the v50. I love the note series but i am leery of how much they will cost. I will ALWAYS own an LG Device whether as my main phone or a secondary one for the quad dac. Thank you for reviewing this phone!
Still using my V20, spectacular phone, but I've replaced the screen twice now and managed to smash it again, the connectors inside are getting a little too worn to do it again now though. Trying to decide if to just buy another new V20 (which you can get super cheap) or jump to something new, there just isn't much out there that can do what this beast can, battery life is my only complaint, and at this point the 820 is a little slow.
Moved from V20 to V30, which has good battery life so did not miss the removable battery much. 835 was a large jump from the 820, that alone was worth it. OLED was nice too.
The bluetooth trouble steams from the fact, that LG V series supports pretty much every audio codec via bluetooth and depending on what you set it to in the developer options it tends to focus on quality rather than stability. You can set your preference in the bluetooth options as well as the developer options though.
Bought LG G7 One for exactly the same reason. Bought it for CAD$240, two years contract on black Friday. So far solid performance, monthly security patches are great. Hope they will keep their promise and update the phone to next two major android version.
I'd say the standby battery going down overnight happens more when you leave things like Wi-Fi, Data, Bluetooth etc on. I typically turn off all of my wireless communication when I go to sleep (except for the actual cell reception), that is if I don't charge the phone or turn it off overnight. I've been using an LG G6 for about 2 years, and generally I've noticed that that's been a constant problem. I love the phone, but recently it's been plagued with issues. I don't know if it's all that common, but for example, I can barely charge/fast-charge reliably, and I sometimes the phone will die as high as 5-7% battery.
V50 is the V40 with more memory, 5G capability ( that's why your battery life suffers - use dark theme - it help big time ), and an upgraded Snapdragon 855 vs 845 chip. Not worth the money. I have a V40 - should have gotten that for $620.00 now. I won't upgrade to the V50 - simply not worth the money. And you still get the same Hi-Fi Quad Dec.
I have been on the fence about this subject for several months. I was thinking about the V40 at the end of last year, but wanted to wait until it was cheaper. But now the V50 is out. I think your advice is still spot on. I'm not a heavy user, so I think upgrading my V20 to the V40 makes sense, but I also had a G3 many years ago, and the new G8 looks pretty cool as well...
@@diegomontoya8889 If screen size is not an issue, the G8 ( 6.1" screen ) technically would be a better bet for many reasons; TOF sensor - true 3D facial recognition; 128gb internal storage / twice the V40 with SIM tray upgradable to 2tb; OLED display - same as V40; Larger battery; Can get it in some places for $640.00; Android Pie out of the box; Snapdragon 855 processor vs 845 on the V40 And you still get the Quad DAC and fingerprint reader - this clown doesn't think the fingerprint reader is as secure a 2D facial recognition- that was stupid for him say.
This is probably the best all around phone I've used: Stereo speakers, head phone jack, good battery life, big beautiful screen, expandable storage, good cameras, SD 855. It's checks all the boxes + you can get them on eBay for $350-400. The only complaints I have are the UI (easily fixed with Nova launcher), notch, and slow updates.
I too saw these going on eBay for that price range also and now I'm seriously considering it as my next phone but there are only 2 variants, Sprint and Verizon and while Verizon's has more LTE bands on-board, it doesn't have what I need for AT&T and I'm not about to go back to Sprint (main reason being inconsistent reception in my area and no free mobile hotspot like I have with AT&T). There is a Korean variant but that's going for around $600 on eBay but I haven't checked if the LTE bands on that are any more favorable for AT&T users here in the states. For $650 that same Korean model is being sold with the dual screen case accessory.
I had the V10. Love it, but it black screened me one day, and so... I got the V20. Loved it. It was AMAZING. I even used it to shoot some b roll on a professional mini series. Even used audio from it on that show, straight from the microphone in the phone. We had to dumb DOWN the video because it looked too good and we wanted it to look more like a cell phone video. Amazing. Had a bunch of batteries, and then a huge extended battery, and so, I was all good with it. Then I felt like, "hmmm... no updates... maybe I should get a V30 because I can get one brand new, in the box on ebay for less than $300. Did that. The V30 is AMAZING. Best phone I have ever had. Is it better than the V20? Well... the battery is really good for me, and so, in that way, yes. Video better? Audio better? I don't know, I'm not that deep, but I am a professional artist, and so, I know they both are useful for pro level work, and so...... I'm looking at the V40, and now the V50 and I'm like, "why do I keep buying the same amazing phone over and over again?". Maybe because the newer ones look a bit better, I don't know, maybe simply because I'm a consumer who just keeps buying shit because it's newer. ;) I don't really know, but I am really good with this V30 right now, and it's going to take a lot for me to move to another phone, any time soon, but if I do, it will be an LG, most probably, but I'm staying with the V30 for as long as I can. (famous last words) Love your reviews, thank you for them, keep up the great work!!!
As an avid headphone enthusiast I held onto my OnePlus 5T for longer than I typically hold onto a phone; but recently caved and upgraded to a OnePlus 7 Pro. I have to say, while it is an incredible phone, I have found myself no longer listening to music directly off my phone (with the occasional Bluetooth pairing with my car). I plan to get the iBasso DC02 when it is released and that should for the most part solve the problem of not having a headphone jack, with the minor inconvenience of having to remember to carry a dingle with me everywhere I go. Unfortunately the LG V50 to me is too much of a compromise from what I look for in an Android phone: a stock, or near stock Android experience, and a display without a notch. The headphone jack is going the way of the dinosaur, and while I'm personally frustrated about it, I think the majority of the market doesn't care for wired headphones, and that to me explains why the V50 didn't meet any fanfare on launch.
he obviously has something left running, couls be anything. I simply turn of data and wifi etx on my v20 and might lose 1% overmight unplugged, so theres a problem with his obviously
V40 fingerprint reader was also very good. Glad to see that you are trying something different. I had to order my case on Amazon and I had to wait several weeks for a good one after using a cheap one in the meantime
Great review! The LG V-series are great phones. I purchased the LG G8 in April. Granted it only has 2 cameras...a wide and a normal lens. That's fine for me. But I paid $619 from T-Mobile, and then received another $310 off for adding a much-needed line of service. The Quad DAC is unreal. It's night and day compared to other phones. You'd have to buy a $300+ hi-res player to match that sound. LG V and G phones also have the best haptic engine on the planet. I can type at 90+ words-per-minute on SwiftKey. It so much faster and pleasing than my old Blackberry keyboard, and light years better than my previous Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. So save yourself $600, go on Swappa and buy yourself a mint condition G8. All of the goodness of the V50--minus the useless-for-now 5G, and the telephoto lens--at $600 less. Plus the G8 is a more manageable size.
It's fine recommending an lg phone if you switch back and forth between different phones all the time but LG have killed themselves off by not updating there phone's. Since I've had the of g6 it's received a grand total of two software updates... They become hard to recommend for this reason personally OnePlus is my new go to or even xiaomi
I loved LG once had 3 of them but my G6 was overheating while using 4g , lagged numerous of times made no sense I removed the only game I had & went bear minimal , slow to update. My phone now is Vivo v15 I feel I was duped by LG in the end . Personal experience only not trying to put people off.
what???? worst battery? You can buy 6 batterys for under a hundred bucks and go for a week just changing them out in under a minute. so no worst battery bs
You mention using the phone jack with HD 600 series headphones, I guess with around 300 ohms. I use my LG V40 with a Sennheiser HD 599 with 50 ohms. It mates very well with the V40. Will this DAC/amp combo adequately sound through your 600? Would you need to couple it with an external amp./DAC to power those cans up? Thanks, and appreciate the review.
It's sad but not sad at the same time because the V50 is an okay phone, but they tarnished their brand way back with the G4, G5, V10, V20 bootloops and terrible screens that ghosts. On top of that, they are notorious in the tech community to seldom release fast updates. Which is why this phone barely gets any coverage. If you really are interested, just wait like 6 months, because the prices will tank.
I tried to love LG, I really did. I had the V10, switched to the V30 and at last the V40. The V10 had a lot of problems with the display and would reboot 5 times a day. After sending it to repairs for the 5th time I chose to exchange it for an S7 Edge. The V30 had terrible screen problems with uneven lighting and was hard to see on low brightness I had to send that phone away for 3 times before the screen was acceptable. At last I had the V40 and that phone was pretty good until about a week in. The battery was so bad it drained itself 20% per hour even after multiple factory resets. I was like hell no I'm not going to do this again and so I exchanged that phone for a Oneplus 7 Pro. Also LG sucks ass with updates.
DAC doesn't provide power to the headphones. It's a Digital to Analog Converter (DAC). LG's Quad DAC does have a built in headphone amplifier and can handle high impedance headphones, upwards to 600 ohms if you enable High Impedance mode.
As a V30 user, I'm still quite happy with the phone, especially the Quad DAC (bought it because of this feature); yet the lack of software update really annoys me...
I'm glad someone talks about the importance of a quality DAC. Losing the jack on most phones did not matter because the DACs sucked, and Bluetooth for them was a solid substitute. LG is the only company who actually put effort into their portable sound quality and that's where losing the jack for audiophiles matter.
Nearly 2 years with my LG V35 in Europe (Bought it from the US) and still like brand new, I got +7 hours SOT with max resolution. I only use mobile for social, music and videos, no gaming at all. Now gonna sell it cause I bought the V50. I'm so in love with this device (LG) since I got the G2 some years back, then G3, V10, V20, V35 and now V50. Used Samsung, iPhones, none of them has the things LG offer. I
First off, great video. Not many review videos on the V50 except if they tested it on a 5G network. I bought the LG V50 when Verizon was offering $450 trade in credits for some ridiculously old phones like the Galaxy S5 (which I bought off eBay for $50 so easy $400 off). Been very happy with the V50 so far for the two and a half weeks I've used it. Audio has been wonderful with my Sennheisers (M2 and PXC 550) and I use them all the time at work. Tried the video portait mode a few times and it worked better than I expected. Night Mode pictures are not as good as the Pixel 3 (which is my work phone) but they're decent. Love the manual photo/video controls. Fingerprint reader is much better than the Note 9. The notch bothers me much less than the hole punches and LG hides the notch pretty well. Yes there's a bigger bezel but if I'm watching a movie or RUclips video, it is not going to interfere with the content. A hole punch you can't hide. My biggest gripe that nobody mentioned in any video/review is its interaction with Android Auto. For whatever reason when I'm trying to create texts it sometimes won't get the "send" command or at times not even record what I said. It's an intermittent issue but frustrating to say the least. Otherwise as you said, this phone for whatever reason is not getting the fanfare it deserves. Probably because it doesn't say "Samsung" on it and it is only available on Sprint an Verizon. Saw a few reviews knocking the phone because there is no unlocked version. Ummmm...does the S10 5G have an unlocked version and does that get mentioned??? Exactly. Keep up the good work!
Probably cause LG won't sell the V50 unlocked. I wanted to get the V50 but its only exclusive to Sprint and Verizon. It needs to be UNLOCKED. I recently bought one of the Amazon Prime Exclusive LG V35 phones. Its fantastic!! When its within its LIMITED TIME DEAL at the time its $399. When its not its $899.
Nice to get a review on this phone. A couple months ago I bought a pixel 3 XL. Then I saw a brand new Verizon LG V40 for under 500 with the matte blue color. I've been back and forth but can't leave this v40. It's my favorite until the v50.

The only problem with the V50 is that it will never get an Android update from LG. I have the V30 and it’s still stuck at Android 8.0. Great phone, love it, but LG sucks at sending out updates.
The problem with LG is a thermal issue that has been around since the G4. They run hot under load and malfunction too early in their lifecycle. No thanks. Already been stung by LG.
They fixed that issues years ago, it was only the G4 and V10 generation that was really fucked. G5s and V20s were pretty good, then they get their shit together with the G6 and V30
You are wrong about quad dac. Quad dac means 4 dacs for 4 different things. One for audio through that headphone jack, one for loudspeaker, one for phone audio and one for something else I dont remeber. Over and above this, lg is using a high quality amplifier which recognizes the power requirement of your headphones and drive them accordingly. Dac and amplifier are two different things. Lg has been using quad dac plus amp setup since v10
If only the power button was the fingerprint scanner again and there were no google asst button. A volume wheel would be great too but I can't imagine where they'd put it.
I would find an assistant button pretty useless. If the button could be programmed to launch the camera instead that would be much better! After that, a button for play/pause, a button for rewind 15 seconds and a button for next track would be good too.
LG makes great phones. Another RUclipsr Jwilliams raved about the G8. Poor LG phones doesn’t get any love. I mean I’d never get this phone. Not in a million years lol.
As a big LG fan, I love seeing someone giving it the well-deserved credits. Coming from the awesome V40, I have little reason to upgrade to the V50 if 5G is pretty much the only stand out feature. It does have a 2nd screen accessory that I am curious about and I hope it will be presented in more details on this channel. For all my LG phones, I have been using Ringke Fusion cases which are cheap, clear design and have decent shock protection. They also provide back panel templates for all their cases so you can cut up some pictures of your choice and stick it to the back of the clear case.
These phones are being heavily subsidized right now if you are on Sprint. Currently am able to get one for just 19$ a month which is cheaper than the iPhone XS by a significant amount.

I'm still rocking the LG V20. Love the Headphone Jack and changeable battery. Was considering upgrading to the Note 10+ but they killed the headphone jack. Non-audio people will never understand. So I am looking at the LG50 as a daily driver.
Am waiting for the s 11 or n11 or whatever they calling it, to see if the jack will be back...
For an extra $200, you can get another screen on the LG V50.
mee too, im asking around to see if anyone will remove the back of the v50 for me and il attach it with a case so i can remove the battery at will.
Its nice to be able to switch off a phone and pull the battery and thats it, secure offline.
sorry to ask. what about some decent wireless headphones, aren't they have great audio ?
@@sipenarekbecha7193 Usually, no. You have to shell out a lot of money to get high quality ones.
Great video Jason!! I agree with you completely on the aspect of its sound with the Quad DAC!!! LG is very underrated I must say!!!
I'm still rocking my V30 two years later and I'm still loving the thing.
The first LG phone that I really got excited for.
My fav lg phone by far.
To sell their wireless earbud products for more money
V35 better than g7 no notch that's about it

Love LG - woefully underrated, and they don't know how to market themselves at all. I'm running a v40, and a V30 then a G4 - all terrific - love the quad dac, the range of manual control in both vid and pic - a real creators phone - kills me that they're not more successful - keep up the good work!
Yeah, bought the V50 specifically for the QUAD DAC. Made the jump from IPhone just that really wasn't that hard.
I’m strictly Bluetooth now unfortunately. I only use headphones in the gym and wires get in my way.
afmo500 miss those days when other companies like htc use to offer quad DAC in smartphones. Kudos to LG for still doing it.

Going Off grid and Solar powered Yeah.. it’ll be awhile honestly. Even 4g hasn’t been distributed evenly around the areas and is still missing 4g and they randomly brought out 5g which may take years for it to even be distributed evenly.

Second Take both are pretty useless for the majority of the people though. I get the audio jack for audiophiles but we’ve moved on to wireless and people just use wireless headphones (or included headphones)
5G is totally useless for the majority also for reasons that don’t need explaining.
Sure. The lg has a headphone jack, 5g and expandable storage with other sundries. My only issue is with the software updates.

I love my LG V50...and you are right about it.
I like your energy bro!!! I haven't seen anyone but you cover this yet
Thanks.
Hitted the like button for good measure as for all your V series videos 👊. Keep on keeping on 🎧
If I'm not mistaken, Ohms and Sensitivity are entirely different measurements. Ohms is the amount of resistance a pair of headphones has, Sensitivity is how much they output per some given amount of power. This is why headphones like the HiFiMan HE6 are amongst the hardest to drive even though they're only 50 Ohms.
He's old bro...
I got it half off at Sprint. Thank God for employee discounts

Ur thought is similar to mine!
Love my V30, sadly it will be my last LG because of their pathetic Android updating schedule.

@@diegomontoya8889 If screen size is not an issue, the G8 ( 6.1" screen ) technically would be a better bet for many reasons;
TOF sensor - true 3D facial recognition;
128gb internal storage / twice the V40 with SIM tray upgradable to 2tb;
OLED display - same as V40;
Larger battery;
Can get it in some places for $640.00;
Android Pie out of the box;
Snapdragon 855 processor vs 845 on the V40
And you still get the Quad DAC and fingerprint reader - this clown doesn't think the fingerprint reader is as secure a 2D facial recognition- that was stupid for him say.
@@Audiomainia2310 Good to know. I'll see if I can get my hands on one somewhere to give it a quick test drive. Thanks for the input.
I’d definitely consider this if I was in the market for a $1k phone, but I don’t think I want to spend more than 400 or so. The pixel 3a is my max.
LG G7 is like 300 now
Se here so I got the op7 pro. Though the pixel isn't bad at all
I had the V10.
10-15% standby battery drain overnight? That's a bit drastic, isn't it?

I can't believe bootloops are still being spoken about when that hasn't been a thing for a few years. Updates are what kills it for me to buy them
I liked my LG G5 but yeah the Screen Burn was a downside. I liked the Modular design.
I got this phone as soon as it was released for verizon. Amazing phone overall and no issues so far. Great review

On eBay it’s around $400
Don't worry it's a lot of bang for your buck,
Besides if you can wait it comes down in price very quickly,
Yet it's always a great line of phones.
The price will drop quickly. It will be a third of the price by the end of the year.

I’ve got the lg g8 in carmine red. Awesome phone 👍
How is the boombox speakers? I heard g7 is better
I'm glad someone talks about the importance of a quality DAC. Losing the jack on most phones did not matter because the DACs sucked, and Bluetooth for them was a solid substitute. LG is the only company who actually put effort into their portable sound quality and that's where losing the jack for audiophiles matter.
Amazing sound out of that jack! 🎧🎼
sad that LG smartphones were pulled out from my country.
Just buy one on eBay unlocked big deal.

Starting with LG v20, they've been mainly stable and dont run hot. They fixed their hardware issues long ago.
@@bl00dkillz The V20 had the same issue. A buddy of mine returned his inside the return window because of it.
LG V50 is the best 5G LG smartphone
If only the power button was the fingerprint scanner again and there were no google asst button. A volume wheel would be great too but I can't imagine where they'd put it.
And here I'm, still rocking my V20 :v
Same here. Never forget, we V20 users can always hit that little button and swap out our batteries while taunting "can your $1000+ phone do that?" :-p
Lmfao
The G8 is the best phone of 2019.
G8 is the best LG out.
You know where You can shove this up for $1000!? GTFO!
Grab a Note 9 512GB $700 instead.
Completely agree. The Note 9 seems superior than this.
are you stupid or something?
Note 9 is last gen.
If you wanna compare the v50 to a note, compare it with the note 10 (999$)
@@firerider669 give it a time the price will drop cause it is LG even LG it self don't care about their smartphone marketing planning
@@alficammy6159 let's be honest here.
That is beneficial for the customer isn't it? Lg has had marketing issues since the g4.
These phones are being heavily subsidized right now if you are on Sprint. Currently am able to get one for just 19$ a month which is cheaper than the iPhone XS by a significant amount.
i got 2x LG V20s and they work great with upgradable batteries. I think i might go with 2x LG v60s or v70s. phone jack and SD slot are ALWAYS NEEDED
