    One thing I completely disagree with is the idea that a "smartphone" is simply a phone. In spite of it reaching commodity status, it is a handheld, general-purpose, supercomputer whose range of applications is only limited by the size of human creativity. It is the single most sophisticated piece of technology you will find in the pockets of most people, and it just happens to have a phone app.
    It is a personal communications device far superior to any we've had before, surpassing the idea of "a phone," in the way that a computer exceeds the notion of pencil and paper. Calling it just a phone is like calling a Swiss Army knife, just a bottle opener.
    Early on in the life of the iPhone, Newt Gingrich got one. He recognized the potential and objected to the name "smartphone." In a video released on RUclips, Gingrich pointed to his office desk phone and suggested that it was a smartphone, while the iPhone was much more. He stated that the iPhone was a computer. He was, indeed correct.
    Nonetheless, he was sneered at in the media as having no idea what a smartphone is. He was called moron, stupid, etc. It was and still is a typical treatment for conservative politicians. I digress.
    When it comes to who won the "smartphone war," it depends on how you look at it. Apple defined the device. Apple created the industry, and Apple continues to take home the lion's share of "smartphone" profits, even though Android is winning in market share. iPhone users tend to be wealthier, better educated, etc. So they are more inclined to buy apps and pay for services. The iPhone drove Apple to become the world's first trillion-dollar company, while Samsung continues to lose money, making smartphones.
    I would call Apple the clear winner except that the war has now moved into "Cold War" status. Apple needs to get more people into using their services. They are winning here also.
    All those iPhones and iPads and Macs out there are starting to take advantage of Apple services. These services include storage, email, calendaring, NEWS, music, TV, movies, Apple Pay, Apple Card, APP STORE/MAC APP STORE, Apple Books, Apple Care, Maps, SIRI, and in-store services. While Apple's iPhone sales are down by about 12%, their services are now up by a significant double-digit percentage as well.
    At the same time, competitors such as Google are also pushing their similar services. Apple is competing with those services by touting "Privacy." Google makes money by selling information about the people who use their services, voluntarily or not. Apple makes money when you buy their products. There's a lot of talk about privacy right now, much of it generated by Apple themselves. Apple is thus calling into question Google's entire business model, which depends on you not caring about your privacy.
    At the same time, there's also a lot of talk about Apple being a monopoly. There are calls to see Apple broken up, separated from their services, in particular, the iOS and Mac app stores. Coincidence? I think not. There are forces unseen fighting battles in the halls of Congress. Lawsuits have been filed, and propaganda is being pushed. Each time you hear Apple say "Privacy," remember they are saying "Google and Facebook SUCK! Use our services!" When you listen to politicians complain about monopolies, ask yourself, "Who thinks this?"

      I agree think Google and Apple especially may be hit and broken up by congress..especially Facebook which could hurt google but think cameras have been improved on Android side...I have note 9 and definitely dont feel need to upgrade till maybe note 11....think many people that used to upgrade every year have stopped both Android and Apple....think that camerss used to be Apples big selling point...I hike in Colorado in a hiking group that is mostly Apple phones and their pics are amazing....but think difference between Apple and Android is narrowing...

    If there is one thing that iOS has the advantage over Android, I would say the seamless ecosystem integration. You can maximize the use of your iPhone if you have an Apple Watch, Airpods, iPad, Macbook, or anything made by Apple. Sure, Android OEMs tried to replicate that but it is not as seamless as the one with iOS.

    • @patrickangeloamable7784
      @patrickangeloamable7784 5 лет назад +6

      Also, Apple supports their devices for atleast 3-5 years compared to only 2-3 years for Android OEMs. And that is for the flagship devices. As for the midrange and below, your lucky if you get one major update of Android.

    • @marvinbeckmann7914
      @marvinbeckmann7914 5 лет назад +9

      yeah but please realize that this is just apple trying to maximize their customer lifetime value. Also, it comes at the price of outside integration. For example, try to natively listen to spotify on your homepod. It's not possible. It's really the "golden cage" of apple devices, if you will. But then again, it's rather Apple milking you. And the seamlessness you were talking about comes with a significant tradeoff: user choice.

      Agree to disagree. I have iOS and Android products. And I honestly don't think there is any real discernable difference between iOS and Android. Not to say they are exactly the same, but as far as how they work on phones and tablets and with each other there is no real difference.
      If anything Android has the edge with the fact that you can transfer files around all android devices offline while keeping everything truly secure.

    Apple is losing market share and they shoud only blame themselves. Apple has become an ignorant and customer hostile company not honoring its warranties, always accusing the customers, never taking its responsibility for broken products. My own experience. I have been using Iphones for 10 years but switched lately to Galaxy s10. And I know that many others are in process of doing the same thing. The trend will continue and will even be stronger. Nokia had 40% of the world market before collapsing. Large corporations often miss trends, do wrong analysis and stop caring about their loyal core customers. I see the same tendency with Apple.

    • @EDITS_SC
      @EDITS_SC 5 лет назад

      Apple listen to customers. And basically saying they are going to fail is false. Android OEM's are just as bad Google wants your data and OEM's want your money. Also will not update as often or at all. Just need to read the Android forums for that detail. If Apple did not care about it's customers or devices it would not update them. Apple is not losing market share. People are not upgrading as often and this also tracks with other OEM's

      Apple has become EXTREMELY CUSTOMER HOSTILE. They sell to you an overpriced gimmick and when it fails it is always your fault. MY OWN EXPERIENCE.
      And I know that many people are in process of switching away from Iphone.

      @@budfox3097 Well using statistics Samsung is increasing in sales of low end and midrange. Losing ground in flagships. I have never had a issue with Apple and customer service. I think if you read about how Samsung and Google and OnePlus and Huawai treat their customers you would not just be singling out Apple. Customer service has nothing to do with increasing sales. Price point does.

    • @budfox3097
      @budfox3097 5 лет назад

      @@EDITS_SC Competitors have proven that Apple manufactures overpriced gimmicks with NO value added at all. Their phones are not even premium, look at the specs, always inferior compared to the competitoion. Yes sure, the design is nice but everything else is realy bad. Apple has historically had a great offer in terms of total package and even used to take care of their loyal customers. I know, I have been using Iphones during the past 10 years. But this has radically chenged. Out of 5 times I have been in contact with them 4 times I were an extreme disappointment. And I know many other people that have similar experiences. Apple doesn't honor its warranty. That is THE FACT. Haha of course customer service har an enormous impact on sales. With great customer service I gladly upgrade every year. That is THE MOST IMPORTANT factor in fact especially in the premium segment.
      The fact is that Samsung is increasing and Apple IS LOSING, the recent statistics show that. Apple is DOWN extremely year on year.
      They are not able to cheat their customers forever.
