I'm not a big K-pop fan, but I know and like Lisa and she's pretty popular among my friends too. I would say she probably has the strongest international reach of any K-pop artist ever if even I know of her.

YG mistreated all of the members not just Lisa. It’s a fact Lisa got the most promotion and treated better than Rosé and Jisoo. Rosé and Jisoo barely got any good treatment and were treated less than because they have the less followers. Lisa and Jennie got the most deals but she still got mistreated along with her other members.

You seem to be confusing actual popularity with "most promotion". There is no evidence at all that YG worked harder to promote Lisa compared to the others. OTOH, the member who gets the most followers...gets the most followers. Lisa did this IN SPITE OF not being promoted more and, in many cases, even after being promoted less. One of the things discussed, is how Lisa was stopped from attending big fashion events for a period of time, while the other members were pushed forward with full participation.
Remember when Time magazine did the group of the year story? Remember in the information given by YG to the magazine, not a single accomplishment by Lisa was mentioned...not even the names of her solo songs, while all of the major accomplishments and songs of the other members were mentioned. They didn't even mention that Lisa has the most followers and didn't even mention that she had any followers. But for Jisoo they said that she had the "most followers of any Korean actor". Stuff like that has been going on for years. YG downplays Lisa at every opportunity. OT3 types never notice...because they don't want to.
How’s that a big deal that they didn’t put LISA following? Jisoo is the first Korean Actor which is an accomplishment for Koreans (one of youngest country in the world), unfortunately LISA isn’t the only Asian artist with big following, that probably why they found it insignificant.

all of the members didn’t renew with YG for their individual contract but they did as a group. YG still has control over their group activities which is terrible bc we know how horrible they r at management and promotions 👎🏼 hopefully we get more content of them as a group

I know the chanel is trying to be neutral but truth be told. YG TREATED LISA THE WORST COMPARED TO THE OTHER MEMBERS. I rest my case
I was kind of on the fence about it for a while. Arguments could be made that there were ups and downs for each member and it depended on what people focused on. But two things made it so obvious for me that it could no longer be denied:
(1) the weird, inexplicable way that Lisa's album sales reports were handled in order to prevent her from "officially" reaching the million sales milestone. Like the sales all just magically stopped at 950,000 and never increased after that and YG just somehow "forgot" to register the album of the company's most popular artist with GAON so "statistics could never be counted". (When YG later made the million sales milestone a major part of the promotions for Jisoo's solo album, it became clear what the strategy was. According to YG, Lisa was never supposed to get that record. It was reserved for someone else. So they had to take unusual steps to make sure that Lisa wouldn't reach that milestone "officially".)
(2) In the information that YG provided to Time magazine for the "group of the year" article, the treatment of Lisa was horrific. In the section highlighting each member, none of Lisa's accomplishments were mentioned...and the names of her solo songs were not mentioned. For example, they said that Jisoo has the most followers of any "Korean actor"...but did not even mention that Lisa has any followers at all (so nobody reading the article would realize that she has the most followers period for anyone in Korea and third most for Asia). They mentioned other members' impact in the fashion world and called them ambassadors. For Lisa, they just generically said that she "reps" for Celine. For Jisoo, they said that she got the highest EMV at her fashion event in the fall. They didn't mention that Lisa got the highest EMV for the whole year. According to the article (and the info was obviously provided by YG), Lisa was made to look like the least popular member and a member who had no accomplishments worth mentioning. At that point, I was like...okay...Lisa really is downplayed and treated differently by YG, often in a bad way.
Yea as being a foreigner but she one act had more opportunities than Jisoo & Rosè! Especially the way he talks about Chiquita! He favored Lisa he just wanted her to do what he wanted her to do. She is the most popular so she had the most opportunities out of the other members therefore she was treated better than Jisoo and Rosè.

I remember a photographer with about 15 years of experience saying Lisa was the most unapproachable person he ever had to shoot.
Not that she wasn't friendly or great to work with but that she was always extremely shielded by her management and that requests were impossible to get through.

Plus Jisoo barely go to any fashion shows and when she does, it mostly Dior. LISA, on the other hand, has numerous brand endorsements like ACDA, Mac Cosmetics, Regal whiskey, and many more keeping her active and busy. She often spends time with celebrities and attends events other than fashion shows.
She even went to a DJ Snake concert with Sorn during her solo promotions in 2021 and visited Jennie's trailer for THE IDOL. While most members' families were in South Korea, Rosè family mainly reside in Australia, You implying that Rosè gets to see her family regularly isn't accurate. LISA's absence from fashion shows isn't mistreatment, but not receiving fair payment is the real issue.

I’m still salty that till this day YG hides her albums sales. I’m so happy now that fans of her has there own safe space. It unified her fandom though her next album release is going to be a mark in time it’s gonna be lit.
Yep. They've never given a good explanation. And it's kind of obvious what the intention was. YG literally wanted to prevent her from being the first to reach the "million" sales record...so that another member could claim that record a year later. It's so obvious that it's almost funny. Her sales were very strong and went all the way up to 950,000 in a very short time...and then completely froze for more than a year. Many fans at the time even complained that YG cancelled orders for her albums and refunded money...instead of selling albums. YG apparently wanted people to believe that Lisa almost became the first to get a million sales, but suddenly everyone around the world just stopped buying on the exact same day and not even one more album was sold for more than a year. Later, when it became too obvious that YG was doing something screwy, YG tried to explain it away as an "accident" and that they somehow "forgot" to register her album with GAON and because they didn't register it GAON stopped reporting sales statistics. Yeah...right. Sure, YG. That's what happened. You just "forgot" to register the album of the most popular artist under your label.

YG has always blatantly mistreated Lisa, and her solo era was another live testament of it. No promotions, hiding her album sales to this date, Spotify hacked, not letting her perform her own songs and so much more.

isa gained the most attention with her solo. Her two songs especially "Money" was a big hit, but she was given less promotions and activities. Regardless, she was still able to gain recognition because of her talent and skills without much of YG's help. It's all her! But I'm glad she left because she truly deserves better.
Some of the Kpop companies are just using the foreigners to gain attention from other countries. They are obviously and blatantly treating them unfairly. Why hold auditions in other countries and hire foreigners if they will just disrespect them and let them get bullied because they are not Koreans. I exactly I do think that some of the fans confuse her being popular because people were able to see her talent with her being treated right. Also, in terms of companies just doing auditions and getting foreign members for the sake of doing it you are 100% correct.
As someone who is a big fan of K-pop and has been for many years, but also I someone who is Chinese and Thai-mixed and has watched as foreign idols started being introduced into K-pop. That’s the only reason why JYP entertainment started this bullshit with 2 PM and MissA with questionable reasons to a degree I don’t necessarily think it was the worst idea, but I feel like after they do that, and other company saw the success.
Nichkhun literally sat there and became the prince of Thailand because of him the viewing as an idol he brought so much popularity for K-pop to Thailand, and then with miss A it wasn’t as big, but it definitely got the Chinese general public and fans hyped about K-pop a bit more than they already were like they like K-pop they like J Pop they like the whole Idol idea because we didn’t really fucking have idols in China but I feel like after other company saw that they decided that they needed to be inclusive too.
But after the whole SM situation with the two Chinese members for super junior M, and then the whole EXO situation, I feel like K-pop fans as a whole should’ve started paying way more attention to how foreign idols are being treated. Yet I think that it’s the same issue that it kind of was before where people kind of overlooked how badly JYP entertainment treated the Chinese members of miss A where it’s like because they did have a fan base and they were fairly popular people mistake, their popularity with being treated correctly when in actuality, it’s like no one I think people underestimate how much a country will root for their own in a foreign country, trying to make it as a celebrity and two people forget that others will pick up and notice someone’s potential there a talent so they will stand them. They will become a fan of theirs, but that doesn’t mean that they’re getting promoted or treated, right.

For another reason (only my opinion) that all members reject YG offer is because YG's marketing strategies had limitations the BP members to show their musical talents. All members may want to release more music, but YG may not allowed and may ignore some of their pacitipation in songwriting, which only the bornpink album that they allow member to participate in more It might be very difficult for the young ladies group to have freedoms to show their ability in music in SK, which is belong to the man's world, that why each of them has tendency to open their own agency for their freedom.
They all left because none of them wanted to get treated like Dara was. They had first row seats to see THAT treatment and I guess if YG couldn't guarantee on paper that the treatment would be diffrent, they weren't buying any of the promises.

Rosé in the netfliz doc said that because of other jobs, like advertising, she missed her trainee days sometimes, when she only had to worry about music. I bet they would exchange many of their activities with brands to be able to dedicate themselves more to music. See how active Jennie is now that she has her own company.

And YG has always been very bad at supporting solo artist activities (just ask Lee Hi, who spent a total of 6 years (two 3-year hiatuses) not being allowed to do anything during the 7 years that she was at YG). YG (actually YHS) would not mentally ever be willing to give up having TOTAL CONTROL (meaning the ability to ignore artists completely if he wants to) in writing. I'm pretty sure that's why the BP members simply could not re-sign as individuals. They probably wanted to, but only if YG would guarantee that they could be very active and have a lot of freedom. YG wouldn't agree to that, so they could not take the risk of YG just phasing them out and ignoring them during the next 5 years or so.

Yeah, people will argue about various things back and forth because a lot of information is hidden and people have to go by clues and hints. For example, until the Bvlgari CEO made a public post about how it was actually YG who was not allowing Lisa to attend events, some people would argue that it was Lisa's fault or claim that it was the brands who weren't inviting her. Thankfully, the Bvlgari CEO put the spotlight on YG's bad behavior, making it hard for YG to keep playing that game...and Lisa was finally able to start attending events. Other companies that were creating great opportunities for Lisa (such as Penshoppe and MAC) have indicated that after their first contract with Lisa, YG raised the costs so much that they couldn't renew to keep the relationship going. In Korean luxury department stores now, we can ONLY see Jennie, Jisoo and Rose. Lisa has disappeared completely. All of the contracts that she previously had (such as MAC and some others) were phased out, apparently by YG making it difficult to renew. It's like YG decided to stop allowing her to do big global campaigns for global brands and decided that she could only do things with Thai companies, with campaigns being mainly only in Thailand. Even there, the Dentiste CEO complained that he had to keep pushing YG for attention because they kept ignoring his requests for a deal with Lisa.
The clearest case, however, is the album sales freeze. To this day, YG has never provided any reasonable explanation as to why they did not report her real sales the way they did for other members. They have never provided any reasonable explanation as to why YG actually cancelled many orders for her albums (which is also a matter of record as many fans complained at the time that they put in orders and YG responded by cancelling the orders and refunding money). Everybody knows that she sold more albums than indicated by the number reported by YG, which never changed for more than a year. The reasonable conclusion is that YG really knew that Lisa was going to set records for sales that could not be broken and YG wanted to be sure that the next member to release a solo album would be able to get those sales "records" for promotional and pride reasons...which is what happened. It's just an indication of how manipulative and scheming YG often is behind the scenes. (Even just based on common sense, how likely is it that Lisa's sales would skyrocket up to 950,000...and then just stop...so that she couldn't reach the magic "million" milestone, which would have been the record to be talked about. The only way it would be more obvious that YG was playing tricks is if it froze at 999,999 album sales. lol.)

It could be, because they have this reputation... but I think it could also be an attempt to keep her in the company like, if they thought, maliciously, that boycotting her popularity would prevent her from leaving the company more easily, through offers in foreign countries. I don't know. Kpop companies (like SM) have a reputation for trying to push one member popularity lower than the popularity of the group and the company itself. I don't know.

Of course. Why would Lisa renew her individual contract with YG? They would have to totally reverse all their restrictions, and offer her more than they could possibly afford. My guess is that YG even interfered with that. After Lisa did "The Movie" on her channel, it became like a very big event and her own channel was becoming more and more influential. But that was the last time she uploaded a dance performance video and it was probably YG that told her to stop making her own dance performance videos...because she was starting to move too far ahead in popularity again. The Movie was uploaded 3 years ago. She didn't upload any dance videos again until she did the Christmas version of "Money". Now that she's free, hopefully the "My Only Wish" video is a good sign that she's going to be more active on her own channel again.

I don't want to assume but this feels really weird, there's no excuse for this and it does feel that they're purposefully trying to dim her light and it fails every time. Blackpink and a whole and as individual's are magnetic and always have been since the start Lisa has shined bright and from the start she's had to deal with xenophobic and racist hate. It's really weird.
My guess is that the original concept and intention of YG for Blackpink was that Lisa was supposed to help gain popularity for...the group. She was supposed to help attract more international fans for...the group. But she was never supposed to be the most popular member of the group. She was supposed to be like a supporting actor. Lisa just did her job and did her thing, and became naturally much more than just a supporting actor. YG has always seemed a bit troubled and confused because things didn't go exactly as planned. Things went much better than planned. And YG has obviously been very happy about that. But even with Blackpink being more successful as a group than YG ever realistically dreamed of...Lisa was not supposed to become the star that she has become. It was another member who was supposed to be the "main star" out in front unquestionably (a fact that can easily be seen by the difference in pre-debut promotions and fame). Lisa was just supposed to be one of "the girls" behind the main star..and it still seems to bother YG that they can't easily shove Lisa into the originally planned smaller box and diminished supporting role without damaging the group dynamic and popularity as a whole..

IIRC, they have changed it now. It really was mainly just a policy and not a requirement by law. The main culprit was the KMCA (Korea Music Copyright Association) who decided not to pay royalties to "foreign" artists if the countries those artists were from did not choose to join some international association that KMCA wanted them to join. (Some association that sets standards for royalty payments across borders.) It should not have been a valid reason for not paying royalties owed to artists living and working legally under valid visas in Korea. But they apparently chose to withhold royalty payments anyway. IIRC, Thailand has since joined the international association. I don't know if the KMCA still does the same thing to other artists whose countries have not joined the international association. In any case, YG easily could have done a work-around to make sure that Lisa got paid. But they didn't.

This sounds similar to the treatment that the Chinese members of EXO were subjected to, hence the reason why most of them left. When brands wanted Chinese members to represent their products, SM would say that the Chinese member is not available and then force TWO Korean members onto the brand. Also, none of the Chinese members were ever allowed to return to China. So yeah, it seems that this is something that all foreign idols have to deal with.

These kinds of channels are constantly mispronouncing everything...probably because they use computer voice apps. They sound like real voices. But they're just apps that read written-out scripts. Like the voice in this one, you can hear it in many other channels. One of the other most popular computer voices is the "guy with a British accent" that can be heard in hundreds of different channels that do things this way. It's not a real human reading the scripts (even though there probably was a real human whose voice was used many years ago when creating the voice app). That's why they also pronounce Bvlgari as Bevelgari. The app is not smart enough to know that the "V" in BVLGARI is pronounced like "U". Recently, they've been butchering the pronunciation of Lee Hyori's name everywhere. They read it as "Hi Ori" instead of Hyori (which is really pronounced like just putting an "h" with "yori".
There needs to be a Kdramedy parodying YG's operations and artist management. The script is pretty much already written by their actual history. Just outright genius in selecting and creating the greatest and most popular girl group in history, while developing the most popular Kpop Idol in world (Lisa). Then, consistently and mercilessly take actions or inactions to destroy their marketability with fans and endorsers. Give them 9 songs in 2 years and don't give them a full album until 4 years after debut. Whose formula for success is that? Answer: No one that is competent. How the members have not only survived but thrived in popularity year after year of incompetent management is due to Teddy Park's genius as a music producer, along with each members immense talents and determination. I am happy to see that they all have landed in a good place, staying together as a group, but with the freedom to pursue individual activities/careers.

I don't know if it's related, but a few months ago I looked at the trademarks that YG had and the name Lalisa (including her surname), GDragon and Taeyang were the only solo names registered a few years ago. Basically she couldn't use her stage name or even her surname without YG, so anything that used her name had to go through them and they probably received money from the name in solo activities, I believe. I just found weird that she was the only member.
The only positive thing I’ve heard of YG is that they pay their artists what they deserve, meaning they give much better percentages than the other agencies.

Kinda sad she gets paid less but was literally carrying the 2 world tours on her back. To be fair though, Bvlgari is a jewelry brand so they don't partake in fashion weeks since they don't come out with new collections every season. Also during that fashion week, Celine didn't have a new collection that's why Lisa didn't need to attend as opposed to the other 3 members, which their brands did have new collections for the show.
