I've always wanted BP to form a company together, to show that asswipe his place. I mean they got it all. 4 women that are specializing in all aspects of the industry. Dance, singing, acting, and smart. I love them now but just imagine the possibilities for other artist under them.

I'd argue BP were bigger than the company. Hence why so many artists left yg recently. Trying to renew bps contracts almost destroyed yg. They went from trying to pay idols to having to essentially pay celebrities. But you are right in yg didn't 'want' BP to be bigger than the company. I don't see why Babymonster debut is a failure. They already have an album and lot's of songs in the first 6 months after debut. They have a huge international fanbase and have 100 + million views per MV. Yes they have similarities with Blackpink (don't know why that's a bad thing), but a lot of the new groups have similarities with other groups.
BM members are talented, the problem is YG not giving them their own identity, YG still ride (or still trying to) with BP's popularity, either they are gambling the success of BM using the BlackPink formula or they're just lazy.... or both
But what they do from marketing point is not really so bad. They use existing fanbase of company to build fandom for their new group. What is different is approach to fanbase. BP had image of beings above everyone. Like they rarely communicated with fanbase at the beginning and for pretty long we had limited info about them. In case of BM they released a lot of info about girls, even their families or friends supported them publicly. That's why it is girls next door. And vocals well that's obvious. I think it's the most female vocal group from YG since Big mama. Both 2en1 and BP was based more on rappers/sub vocals like in BM core are vocalists. Rap has role more of featuring.

What YG did with 2NE1 is inexcusable. But don't think YG treats their boy groups much better, just look at Big Bang's disintegration. YG is an equal opportunity offender and destroyer of groups. Say what you will about their horrendous mismanagement of their groups, they are excellent at scouting talent and training talent and debuting great groups. No other company could have created Blackpink, or Baby Monster. BTW, Sheesh is a banger and has given Baby Monster the identity of a group with killer vocal and rap talent that is worthy to be considered a sister group to Blackpink. You don't have to worry about a YG group embarrassing themselves and/or Kpop in international concerts. I think you’re over exaggerate on Babymonster side. As for their title track there’s no doubt that do sounds like Blackpink but calling the songs flop is a bit too much. They’re experimenting (or more of trying to flex Babymon talents) by releasing a full ballad songs afterwards. Then on their mini album we also get R&B song from Charlie.
I see a lot of fans call it mismanagement that groups don’t have a million comebacks a year. Being an idol looks exhausting! Constantly performing 24-7 to fans and it’s still never good enough. I’ve always felt the lack of pressure from YG to constantly learn new songs and choreo and tour and promote and be perfect all the time is more a good management tactic than a poor one. Especially since it seems a good number of these idols are inherently shy and introverted, I’d think they’d need time to recharge before going again
I partially agree. We don't need a million comebacks a year like some groups do, but there should be at least one comeback a year unless the group is facing a serious problem or something. If blackpink weren't as popular as they are with such a strong fanbase, their careers would've faded away. I mean look at everglow, they hadn't released a song in so long that even though they were pretty popular at one point, their latest releases were not that popular. So I'd say YG's level is mistreatment, too much damages the idols, and too little damages their careers. Neither is a good option
YG definitely have done many mistakes in the past towards 2ne1 and blackpink. But no matter what, thr group they debut always become a phenomenon in the years ahead so despite poor management. They definitely have ability to train and debut talented groups. Actually when we say sheesh is bad. Honestly every YG group their songs are like this. Blackpink song also have the vibe in the beginning but they still emerge as one of the legendary girl group afterall.
It’s truly wild that 2ne1 was seen as ugly. Literally all of them are pretty. I’m tired of idols these days all looking like they came from the same factory. 2ne1 were so talented and each one of them has their unique beauty and charm, it’s so depressing what happened to them.

YG really lost a big opportunity with Babymonster. Since they were promoted as the ''YG genes'' and a hip hop group, they should've taken advantage of the current trend of kpop, going back to 90's and 2000's sound. Just instead of the bubbly or nostalgic vibe, they could've gone with a hip hop and rnb sound that resembles those years, with a modern touch. Bringing some unique hairstyles from kpop 1st gen, and making something fun and cool at the same time. Instead, they decided to go for a 2018 girl grush sound which feels too ordinary. And ngl, their music is still enjoyable, but their impact was not as big as it could have been, especially in Korea, they're struggling to fight against ILLIT or Newjeans

Honestly I disagree with the majority comments, YG and the company do not deserve praise for producing quality idols. They've emotionally manipulated fans into loyalty for idols that were scarsely seen and/ or inadequately promoted. When you make an emotional connection with someone it hurts more to walk away and leave them to handle the situation alone than it does to stay and support them even if you know you're only going to further the mistreatment and enable the perpertrator. I take nothing away from the idols and the efforts they themselves made for their careers but I feel most of the loyalty fans have towards YG idols is born out of the unfair treatment those idols receive. It's actually a good business tactic, despicable but fiscally good.
YG is such a horrible company and person in general. It irks me that everytime his artist gain some control over their music and live, he debuts a new group to control and each time they get younger. He could've had two iconic ggs but decided to let them both go. From scrapping 2ne1's songs to taking Jennie's song book away is stupid. Giving BP and BM low quality music and not promoting them might've worked before but it's obviously not working now. BM is obviously not getting good attention if YG keeps putting their mv in ads. This means that no one cares to stream or pay attention to the group, so they have to force people to watch the mv. Giving BM the same concept as BP and 2ne1 is horrible. The only way BP worked was because YG actually gave them music that worked at the time and debuted them during the 2ne1 disbandment scandal. Though this worked BP is still stuck in 2016. Even 4gen has evolved more than BP. 5gen gave so many different styles from their senior but it seems YG is still stuck with the same old, same old. It's not working anymore. "Sheesh" and "Batter Up" aren't bad songs but BM should've been a more vocal focused group rather than having cheesy raps. The members have talent but YG doesn't have good tactic or a working brain. YG needs to lose Teddy and Yung Hyunsuk immediately, if they're going to survive the next wave of idols. And if they continue to delay BP's music career they might lose them forever too. These WOMEN are tired of being played for fools and YG can't handle not being in control. It's stupid and needs to change. BM still has time to use a different concept instead of recycled BP material. If they go towards rnb or pop instead of girl crush then they might have an amazing advantage. But YG sucks some serious ass.

The only group YG messed up was their first gg which is 2NE1. Even though Papa YG and his brother were the only one fighting for 2NE1 to stay together, the other board members who are money hungry didn’t want to keep investing in them and voted for their disbandment. With Blackpink they got really successful, the girls are still considered one of the best girl groups in the world but are able to strive also in their solo careers. Blackpink remind me of bigbang in that they didn’t release a lot of albums but they joined a list of legendary group because of their impact on K-pop. YG are so far doing well with Babymonster too, the girls are growing in popularity because they get to showcase their talent. We all know we fell in love with YG sound somehow when stanning a YG group, because for example, Blackpink sound will be completely different out of YG which the fans have to get used to. I’m glad the pink girls are able to get their solo break right now (since girls don’t get that because they don’t have military service). I’m sure they’ll be able to find their own sound. Hopefully blinks like their new sound also.
YG’s goal is to never make the group bigger than the company. However, BlackPink overshadowed YG as a whole which is why they didn’t disband like 2NE1 did.

I don't see why Babymonster debut is a failure. They already have an album and lot's of songs in the first 6 months after debut. They have a huge international fanbase and have 100 + million views per MV. Yes they have similarities with Blackpink (don't know why that's a bad thing), but a lot of the new groups have similarities with other groups.
BM members are talented, the problem is YG not giving them their own identity, YG still ride (or still trying to) with BP's popularity, either they are gambling the success of BM using the BlackPink formula or they're just lazy.... or both

But what they do from marketing point is not really so bad. They use existing fanbase of company to build fandom for their new group. And it's works BM has one of the highest SNS engagement for rookie group. And group obviously has already different identity as it's something always YG wanted to do so their version of SNSD. Pretty girls next door with above average vocal skills. Like Rora is totally SM style idol including vocal.

What is different is approach to fanbase. BP had image of beings above everyone. Like they rarely communicated with fanbase at the beginning and for pretty long we had limited info about them. In case of BM they released a lot of info about girls, even their families or friends supported them publicly. That's why it is girls next door. And vocals well that's obvious. I think it's the most female vocal group from YG since Big mama. Both 2en1 and BP was based more on rappers/sub vocals like in BM core are vocalists. Rap has role more of featuring.

I’ve always felt the lack of pressure from YG to constantly learn new songs and choreo and tour and promote and be perfect all the time is more a good management tactic than a poor one. Especially since it seems a good number of these idols are inherently shy and introverted, I’d think they’d need time to recharge before going again
I partially agree. We don't need a million comebacks a year like some groups do, but there should be at least one comeback a year unless the group is facing a serious problem or something. If blackpink weren't as popular as they are with such a strong fanbase, their careers would've faded away. I mean look at everglow, they hadn't released a song in so long that even though they were pretty popular at one point, their latest releases were not that popular.

Bringing some unique hairstyles from kpop 1st gen, and making something fun and cool at the same time. Instead, they decided to go for a 2018 girl grush sound which feels too ordinary. And ngl, their music is still enjoyable, but their impact was not as big as it could have been, especially in Korea, they're struggling to fight against ILLIT or Newjeans

Honestly I disagree with the majority comments, YG and the company do not deserve praise for producing quality idols. They've emotionally manipulated fans into loyalty for idols that were scarsely seen and/ or inadequately promoted. When you make an emotional connection with someone it hurts more to walk away and leave them to handle the situation alone than it does to stay and support them even if you know you're only going to further the mistreatment and enable the perpertrator. I take nothing away from the idols and the efforts they themselves made for their careers but I feel most of the loyalty fans have towards YG idols is born out of the unfair treatment those idols receive. It's actually a good business tactic, despicable but fiscally good.

YG is such a horrible company and person in general. It irks me that everytime his artist gain some control over their music and live, he debuts a new group to control and each time they get younger.
He could've had two iconic ggs but decided to let them both go. From scrapping 2ne1's songs to taking Jennie's song book away is stupid. Giving BP and BM low quality music and not promoting them might've worked before but it's obviously not working now. BM is obviously not getting good attention if YG keeps putting their mv in ads.
This means that no one cares to stream or pay attention to the group, so they have to force people to watch the mv. Giving BM the same concept as BP and 2ne1 is horrible.
The only way BP worked was because YG actually gave them music that worked at the time and debuted them during the 2ne1 disbandment scandal. Though this worked BP is still stuck in 2016. Even 4gen has evolved more than BP.
5gen gave so many different styles from their senior but it seems YG is still stuck with the same old, same old. It's not working anymore.

The only group YG messed up was their first gg which is 2NE1. Even though Papa YG and his brother were the only one fighting for 2NE1 to stay together, the other board members who are money hungry didn’t want to keep investing in them and voted for their disbandment. With Blackpink they got really successful, the girls are still considered one of the best girl groups in the world but are able to strive also in their solo careers. Blackpink remind me of bigbang in that they didn’t release a lot of albums but they joined a list of legendary group because of their impact on K-pop. YG are so far doing well with Babymonster too, the girls are growing in popularity because they get to showcase their talent.
We all know we fell in love with YG sound somehow when stanning a YG group, because for example, Blackpink sound will be completely different out of YG which the fans have to get used to. I’m glad the pink girls are able to get their solo break right now (since girls don’t get that because they don’t have military service). I’m sure they’ll be able to find their own sound. Hopefully blinks like their new sound also.
