Really enjoyed this as a new Ableton user. I was wondering how to exact drum rack chains just this morning. But knowing how to expand the rack is session will help for sure. Thank you 🙏
Thank you Side Brain!! Subscribed! Loved the arp midi effect on drum pads! I'm particularly interested in setting up Live for improvised performance so when I watch your other videos I'll be on the look out for tips that help me set up easy hands-on controls to change all this sort of stuff in real time.
This was really enlightening as I'm still new with Ableton. You sort of also maybe solved a problem I was trying to figure out today. I wanted to pan individual midi notes in the piano roll for instruments was doing a karimba tune and wanted individual notes to pan and be more spread out. I think I'll just use the drum rack and simpler to do this as it seems that the randomization feature there will likely do the trick. Thanks for the tips.
I have my hardware drum machines fully routed in drum racks. Never even occurred to me to create a separate 'pitch' channel...what did occur to me the moment I saw that was it obviously works for all CC's too. This will make editing sooo much easier and cleaner for tracks that are constantly tweaking parameters.
Great video. Lots of useful tips to try in my own music!!. [One thing that I learned for random variety for hits like Hats without MIDI devices: in the Controls section of Simpler, turn on the LFO, choose the noise waveform & the note setting (1/16 or smaller) and then choose a %-age for the Vol, and if you want, for Pitch and Filter as well.] Thank you.
Great Tricks i am going to have to try them out and get creative. Thank you for sharing it, now i can dive in a bit deeper into the details with a bit more understanding of what they do and the effect im looking for. great explanation and examples. Thanks
For the selector drumkits, I wonder if you can randomise just the "sample", that way it'll be a couple of clicks and you have an entire randomised drumkit
Yes you can write click on each macro and select “Exclude from Randomization” and then use the Rand button on top of the rack. Or you can use things like Expression control or LFO with their randomization options. Check this out: instagram.com/reel/DDICA5_yHHb/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==
Is it possible to see the sounds that are playing in the drum rack when I simply click a drumkit preview? I remember I could do this on Ableton 10 but it doesn't seem to work any more on Ableton 12?
Does anyone know if there's a way to assign a MIDI controller's drum pads to play the sounds in Ableton's drum rack slots? When I try to assign the MIDI controller to the drum rack it looks like it's not an option.
very cool … wondering if/how whether these changes can be global to a saved drum rack or applied only to the instance of the drum rack loaded into the open project?
Ableton should add a shortcut for pitch playing. Cause I’ve been on the lookout for how to pitch drums in rack. This is essential for trap hihats and made me not use drum rack. It should be like focus tracks. If u want to focus on a individual sound and pitch it. Didn’t know about that routing feature, very cool but a bit slow.
i dont really use drum rack... im always just dropping in my drum samples as audio. I find that easier to create grooves as i can see the samples and their exact start point, i can also just add individual effects easier and in drum rack its too many clicks away. Im really trying hard to convince myself to do drum rack but it just slows me down... only reason i consider it its for the possibilities. Also in audio samples i have complete control of the amplitude and gain instantly.
That sample cycling tip with Impulse is definitely going to be useful for me. I could have used that a couple of months ago on a project. I’m gonna add that to a live looping set for sure

Yes it is an extra step. Might be worth to have a while new simpler track just for hats
I don't understand why when I drag and drop to my drum rack a sound I don't have "Classic, Shot, Slice" options like you, any idea anyone ?
Check out split wizard you should make a video about it
very good. :)
Thank you!

I won't.
🐐
I bought 808 Distortion Rack.
But I can not import to my Ableton Live 11.
I already text to you by email
Hey I can’t see you email?
Do you have the latest version of Ableton Suite?
Jean Dujardin???
?
Not CTRL, press Alt-key to layer drums..
Really? CMD-key works for me.
