🐼 Japan's spectacular panda train, inside and out | JR Kuroshio

  • I rode the famous JR Kuroshio (くろしお) train from Osaka to Shingu, Wakayama in Japan. Each car, both inside and out, is decorated in a panda theme (including the headrests and even the tsunami safety cards). A relatively small number of the regular Kuroshio service trains feature the panda theme; this was a lucky trip. On the way, I show you the ticket buying process, where to get food before the journey, the seat and facilities on board, the historical and cultural highlights along the way, and of course, the views over the sunny blue Pacific Ocean. For long stretches, the Kuroshio hugs the actual coast, right over the water.

    It's such night and day from the Amtrak train video of how perfectly timing shinkansen are almost always running, I'm glad you got to capture both trains and your experience. I just recently came back from a trip from Japan and was highly impressed with their train systems along with just how much you really don't need a car in japan to go anywhere. Your Japanese is really impressive how did you learn to speak it so well?

      I've lived in Japan a few years. Mostly I use English but have picked up enough Japanese to get by here and there

    I think the difference between Amtrak and Japan is government pride and responsibility. While Amtrak is government owned the government takes no pride or responsibility for its operation while in Japan its a matter of personal pride for its workers and the government

      And, train operators in Japan are safe in assuming that riders will use trains, and not destroy them or cause scenes. Here, you can offer people nice things, charge money for them, and they'll be appreciated. It's a very nice system but it relies on everyone being decent and reasonable

      Rail travel just isn’t prioritized in the US like in Europe and Asia. It’s probably that more than pride.

    Loved your video! My partner and I are actually planning on going there in a few weeks, very excited to ride the panda Kuroshio Line. Might I suggest a little background music to fill in the gaps of silence/when you're talking? I think it'll help further engage viewers in your future videos! Looking forward to your future travels!

    Very interesting video! You seem to speak the language well. Impressive that the trains are on time much like the trains in Germany. Obviously, you enjoy the trains in Japan a lot more than your Amtrac auto train experience. Based on your videos of each, I can see why. Good & safe travels!

      Thanks! I've ridden quite a few trains here in Japan, and they're impressively on time. I don't know why they're able to do that so well here, except that it's just a priority, and people are dedicated to keeping to a schedule

    This was so great, Jeremy! Thanks for taking me (us) along. What's the difference between Western and Eastern hotel rooms? Toilets? Did you get to pet a panda? -- charlie, sacramento CA

    • @T1DWanderer
      @T1DWanderer  Год назад +2

      The toilets are probably the same, but the Japanese room would have tatami straw mats on the floor and a futon (like a thick blanket) bed put out in the evening. The Western is just regular carpet and a full furniture-type bed with a desk.
      Unfortunately I didn't go to Adventure World, so no live panda for me. Maybe they should add that as an amenity on the train 😁 Thanks for watching, as always!

      "Be gone! I'm doing a video," I bellowed, and the passengers fled
      (Actually this kept happening. Everyone was waiting for other more frequent regular trains, so they'd sit for a couple minutes then clear out. Nobody else was daft enough to arrive as early as I did for their train)
