During my short stay around Tokyo and Osaka, I found the thunderbird train has its unique and delightful announcement chimes. I really love it. And thanks for your video, looking forward for more.
Thanks for the ride, Jeremy! Even if I don't ride trains very often, it's fun to watch you have such a good time. My favorites are the rides to vintage- looking places. Love your videos! Oh, by the way--nice shirt.
Thanks, Jeremy! Whatta great way to start the weekend, going on these train rides with you. Have you done a video of that train that hangs down from a rail? --charlie, california
Wow you were hustling to get on before it left! You find these cool train experiences. Love it! When I get to Japan I'm going to have to either find you or reference all these videos
When I discovered lists of named train routes in Japan - including ones near me I'd never heard of - I rubbed my hands together and cracked gleefully. So much to see!
How's the view from the left side of the train when coming along the coast? I'm planning a trip from Osaka to Nagano and Thunderbird is an option. Would you still sit on the right side of the train with the Lake view? Thanks!
Around March 24 the Thunderbird will terminate at Tsuruga. This is happening because the Hokuriku Shinkansen will be extended to Tsuruga. It will add a bit to the price and also a transfer but the time taken will be less.
As of March 2024, the Hokuriku shinkansen now runs part way to Kyoto. You have to switch to the Thunderbird in Tsuruga. The extension of the rest of the line to Kyoto and Osaka is still under debate over which route to take and not expected to be in service for another 10 to 20 years. If some agreement can be reached, construction would begin in 2025.
This is so useful! Do you think it is possible to walk from platform 4 to 11 in ten minutes with elderly? because I have to come from Kansai Airport 😂 Thank you!
If you mean in Osaka station, yes I would say that's more than enough time. The platforms are pretty close; shouldn't take more than 3-4 minutes at the very most
You need to buy some paper towels to carry to wipe your hands. I drink hot decaffeinated green tea each night. Like the thunderbird . Is that music always playing on the train or did you put it there ? I rode a train back from somewhere in China back to Hong Kong for several hours and someone was reading some propaganda over the trains loud speakers for seemed like several hours. People were not paying attention. Left the day trip into China 7am. Got back 10p. Loooooong day. But interesting.
Heh, I put the music there. Japanese trains overdo the announcements, but it's just about the destinations and stuff, no music or propaganda. I rode a 24-hour (?) train from Beijing to Hong Kong years ago, but I don't remember if there were lots of announcements on board. I did enjoy getting around China by train though!
Thank you. I'm planninga trip to Japan next April or May and dfintely will ride the Thunderbird.

Thanks for watching. Lots of Japan train in my channel archives, if you haven't seen them!
“Houriku Roman” (北陸ロマン) is the name of the chime, it reminds me of a couple Filipino folk songs used during Christmas time.
@@suncheeserailway Thanks so much for the name. 👍👍👍

Thanks! If you like vintage stuff, there's a visit to an antique phonograph museum coming up in a couple weeks you might enjoy. Different shirt though
Awesome video, I'm planning out my trip and need all the info I can find. I was curious about this particular line and it answers all my questions.
I want to take this one next time we travel to Osaka....my wife is from there, mother in law still lives there in Nishinomiya.
Better hurry, the trains in the Kanazawa area are changing in a few months!
2024にはサンダーバードは金沢まで行かなくなっちゃいます😢
雪の季節は景色がとても綺麗です!
残念ね。 Big change coming to JR!
Lol @ tangy pretzel reaction 😊 Enjoy your vids a lot!
Thanks! Ah that pretzel stick... mmmm
Thank you!!❤❤❤❤
Thanks for coming along
Jeremy, I'm so glad I found your channel. Yes I did subscribe, rang the bell and liked this video. Look forward to watching your future travels!

@@T1DWanderer yeah I'd be like that too.
Commenting to boost this great mans algorithm. ❤
Heh thanks for the boost
Thanks Jeremy- I enjoy your work. Will you also be featuring other destination besides Japan, the US and Scandinavia in upcoming videos ?
Certainly at some point - when finances and logistics align. I'm always looking at maps and dream-planning stuff 🤔
Nice 😊
Whither thou go, I will follow . . .

Yeah I'd probably sit on the lake view side in either direction. But the left side would be fine - fields and trees and mountains

Some big changes coming to the trains in that area
I sorry I have not but heath problem had my eyes worked on. Back now 👍
Welcome back! Hope all is ok
Is there any direct train from Kanazawa to Kyoto?
There is apparently no such train. It's a bizarre oversight
