  • Emperor finally opened in 2022. This Bolliger & Mabillard dive machine had been delayed by the covid-19 pandemic, but this ride immediately became the tallest and fastest dive coaster in California. While this is a shorter dive coaster, it may be the best paced one. But does that make it better? Find out in this review!

    Honestly, most dive coasters should add a random sequence of either holding you over the edge or sending you right down without a stop. I think it would make dive coasters even more exciting and increase the anticipation and give you a great reason to get right back in line. I don't think that would be a very difficult modification.

    I was born in SD and lived there until I was 8 years old. my mom and I had Sea World season passes and would visit Sea World multiple times a week after school just to take advantage of the pass, hang out, play on the jungle gym, etc. back then the only ride they had was Shipwreck Rapids. fast forward 20 years, Sea World San Diego is becoming a legit thrill park. I would’ve loved to have had all these rides to choose from back in the day!

    I love the dive coasters, so I'm sure I will enjoy this when I get back out there. I saw it testing in December 2021. It was dreary and rainy that day, and it rained again 2 days later. It did keep the crowds very low. There were no lines for the open coasters, but I also didn't have any lines there on a beautiful Saturday in 2018.

    Love this ride! its the only B&M dive I have ridden and I thought it was fantastic! the elements where forceful, and the drop was good! funny story that sounds fake but is totally true, one the first times I road this ride It broke down, stranding us on the break-run and then i'm not even joking a swarm of bees flew through us. it was nuts. they where luckily just passing by and moved on quickly (like within 10 seconds) but it was honestly terrifying being locked in a restraint with thousands of bees around you.

    • @CanobieCoaster

      I know Griffon can have issue with bees as well.

    Emperor is super fun. It’s short but sweet. The drop is so epic and it has good pacing. Just wish it had some theming, that would make it amazing

    This layout kind of reminds me a little bit of Valkyria at Liseberg because that's another one of a very few dive coasters that I know of that also doesn't have a mid course break run. I don't really count Oblivion at Alton Towers or Krake at Heide Park because those two feel like they're over almost immediately while this one and Valkyria seem to go along for a little bit.

    Emperor has the better view from the top compared to Griffon and Sheikra though. That sightline is chef's kiss.

    Thanks for the review. Has B&M ever designed a dive coaster that has an element following the drop that ISN'T an immelmann?

  • @GregBatte

    I wish they had specific ride cycles on Dives where you know there will be no holding break, I'd ride Sheikra a lot more than I do.

    I've rode all 5 B&M Dive coasters in the US. I have Emperor as the 4th best. I have Dr. Diabolical as the best dive coaster in the US, followed by Griffon, Sheikra, Emperor, and finally Valravn. I have yet to ride Yukon Striker which I believe has the potential to be the best one in North America. I do agree it is a solid addition for Sea World San Diego. TBH the weather doesn't get to bad in San Diego in terms of heat.

    • @CanobieCoaster

    At first looks, it seemed like by far the worst B&M Dive. It had vests, a layout with an overall duration even shorter than the already short tall dives, it had not much to it's layout. But not my options have changed and it seems better, the layout is actually good because it feels more paced without a mid course. And I hear the inversions are cool, it's just those vests that ruin all the airtime.

    • @CanobieCoaster

      This one is quite different. Just comes down to tastes.

  • @TheOfficialSmudgy

    Hear me out, Oblivion and Krake are the best dive machines. Why? Here me out, dive machines are about the anticipation of the drop, the drop, the plunge, they’re not supposed to long drawn out lay outs with lots of inversions, there whole point is to be sweet, snappy and scary for the gp, and thats why I think Oblivion and Krake are the best, because they know its a one trick pony, so they emphasise the hell outa that trick.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  Год назад +2

      Oblivion has my favorite drop of any dive, but I wish it had something after.

    I hate all comfort collars. They all end up digging into my collarbone and I'm a smaller guy. I hate them on b&m, premiere and the recent one was stunt pilot was fine till we hit the brakes and was stuck there for 5 minutes due to a station issue or something. I think someone fell getting in the moving train as it loads but man sitting on the brake run that friggen comfort collar seemed to just keep digging into me. Maybe if I was a bigger guy that might not happen but that's 3 different manufacturers digging into me. I don't even see the point. There not comfortable. The only reason why I see them being a thing is so the gp will feel more secure. I just know I hate them all. I don't mind seatbelts because usually I can leave a little room bit comfort collars need to go away

    • @SunshineStateCoasters

      What was the 3rd manufacturer? Try Vekoma comfort collars, those are actually pretty good imo

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  Год назад

      I don't have a comfort issue with any of those. I did with the original B&M vests that had no give and dug into your collarbone, but they fixed that issue.
